*Previously titled Playing to Win. I have no clue if any content has changed*
Brooks (35) & Izzy (28) Did not love my first impression of Brooks, but I warmed up to him and even felt bad for him a couple of times. His daughter is 18, so this isn't a young kid/single dad trope, more of see my grown daughter when I can, but still love her to pieces trope. He still bugged me at times, like when he kept a big secret. And regarding that big secret I did not care for what Izzy did before she knew about it one bit. Even before that I wasn't feeling her too much. She's a socialite that is bankrolled by her parents in her late twenties. I am not familiar with that world, but she was quite unlikable and immature.
I do enjoy some good old competition but being set in the fitness world is not something I can relate to. Seems a lot of this one was not relatable for me. I did like the conclusion of their competition though.
A little too much with the 'enemies' at times, but I did like it overall.
Series notes: Fine as a standalone as book 1 characters only made a few appearances.
I was able to listen to an audio copy as well. Narration notes: Okay this might sound odd, but I did not think Nathan's voice sounded like someone that owns a gym, or has a bunch of tattoos. I know I know that doesn't really make much sense. How can someones voice determine their career or appearance? No clue but that's my thoughts on the matter. He was fine to listen to and did do a British accent when he did Izzy's parts, so that was good. Jessica did fine as well.

Harding, C.J. Bloom POV ~ dual 1st Featuring ~ fast burn, forced proximity, snowed in, one bed, workplace romance, enemies~ish to lovers, steamage, no 3rd act breakup
Listen there is a similarity with Marni's books, yet each character is still unique. Fast burn and full of steamage is guaranteed. They typically meet in a bar, too. You can count on a H that has gotten around town and then some, but has finally found someone to change his ways, is cocky and knows how to hit it and never wanna quit it. The h's are always strong and independent.
Here we have Cooper (29) & Rowan (29) who find themselves snowed in with all flights delayed for days, and only one bed available...whatever will they do?
Just when I think I have enough book boyfriends another is added to the list. This guy is so sweet and attentive, and protective. And when he got some unexpected news his response was absolutely perfect. Ford Dalton from The Single Dad is still my favorite, but Cooper comes in at a close second.
Rowan knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak up, even when she gets the cold shoulder.
Overall, lovedy love loved. The epilogue just might bring a tear to your eye.
Series notes This series follows brothers in business together, so you might as well read the 1st one 1st so that you know what's up with the family. Then you'll be ready for Brady's story coming out in June 2024. This is also a spin-off of The Daltons series and some of those characters are involved here. I suppose it's not absolutely necessary to read those first, but they're quite enjoyable, so why not?
Narration notes: Both narrators did great. Their opposite voices weren't bad.

Serena & Henry's meet cute was funny when her pants were literally stuck to the booth. She had to wiggle out of them and borrow his jacket since she was leaving the bar sans pants and underroos. They head back to his hotel and get very well acquainted with each other. So acquainted in fact that he instantly falls for her. She feels it too, but since she's career driven and anti-relationship she pushes him away. But it turns out he's her new boss...awkward.
Then we have a time jump to 437 rotations of the earth later. Since they are both physicists it's pretty heavy on science talk, so be prepared for that. Of course this is right before Henry's brothers wedding, so Serena has to pretend she is him and then something happens with her family and he has to pretend he's her because who would believe the truth. I'm pretty sure I would not, would you? They each played the opposite quite well. Henry even got to experience having his period ...more

Gretchen has perfected cons by 'speaking' to dead people. She's so convincing that her fancy client has hired her to help her bridge playing friend, Charlie, get rid of a suspected ghost that's not making selling the farm easy.
Gretchen's met her match because Charlie is having none of her lies, except this time she's not lying and she really does see the infamous ghost of Gilded Creek Goat Farm and his name is Everett. He agrees to let her stay for one month, but she'll need to help out around the farm every day. Turns out the farm isn't very profitable, but leave it to Gretchen to come up with some great ideas to get it in the black. I enjoyed watching her step into her yellow rain boots and take on every task given to her.
I said in one of my updates that I'm slightly in love with Everett. He's such a fun ghost and I totally would've let him rock my world back in the 1920's. Poor thing is so bored, all he wants to do is watch TV when he's not trying to scare potential buyers. Can you blame him though? He hasn't had anyone to talk to in nearly 100 years and finally someone can see him and listen to him yabber on for ages. You can't help but feel bad for him, but then slightly mad at him towards the end.
I'm normally down with a grump, but Charlie is a little too mean to Gretchen sometimes, which took me an extra minute to warm up to him. But after I heard his backstory, witnessed his sweetness towards his grandfather and read his memories of the times he spent with his grandma, he grew on me, mismatched and long sleeved sweaters and all.
Some downsides for me are that the plot only takes place for about a month, and there's a lot jammed packed in that month, but this felt so long and it took me quite a while to get through (2 weeks!). I don't feel like their relationship progressed realistically either. Their first whomp was really weird. I could have went without the stuff with her father as I don't feel like it was wrapped up nicely at all. A few chapters from Charlies POV would have been helpful.
Overall, there's a good amount of wit and TV show references that kept me entertained.

Jess & Conor Jess is moving into her brother's house after her breakup. She wasn't expecting it to already be occupied by her brother's friend, Conor.
Within 5 minutes of us meeting Conor he vacuumed and 7 minutes later dinner is on the table. Sounds like a keeper to me. He's really sweet, too.
Jess has a tough time trusting since her ex boyfriend cheated on her. She could have used a bit more confidence.
Regarding the insta ~ blah because obviously this is usually based on looks alone.
Overall, it had some fun and cute moments, but we have the dreaded 3rd act crap per usual. I could've went without the Carla drama, too. (I've returned the book now, but I think that was her name)
Narration notes: I'm happy with the narration. Julia actually sang, which I don't think I have ever heard a narrator do.

Content warning from the author ~ This story contains strong language and explicit sexual content, brief discussions about absentee parents and references to a character being childless and wanting a baby.
Talia & Rafe Talia is having a tough day ~ she's lost her job and got dumped by someone she knew wasn't right for her, so she's not too brokenhearted. Rafe is an overworked CEO and doesn't have time to date, but he can't go alone to his Christmas party again this year, so he invites Talia to be his fake date. As a thanks he's offering her his cabin in Scotland to take some time to herself...but it turns out she won't be alone and they'll get snowed in there together.
There are some Christmasy vibes and I loved that they went sledding together, so fun! There's a smidgen of lack of communication since each pined for the other, but never said anything, so that's some time a wasted. But I gotta say, it was a breath of fresh air for brother Leo to not have any issues at all with their relationship, a rarity with this trope.
Overall, a quick read with just the right amount of steamage for a novella. A solid debut.

Easton/Mr. Boston & Drake/Love The first part is strictly in Easton's POV. He's one of 3 founders of the app for hooking up called Hooked. He matches 100% with Saaralove, which is unheard of. They meet up, and hook up, but they're both wearing masks so they have no clue what each other looks like. They text back and forth for a while, but never get the chance to meet up again. Until we flash forward 5 1/2 years and they're in each other's lives again, but neither knows who the other is.
I've got another book boyfriend to add to my list! Easton was perfect from beginning to end. A sweet, caring alpha that'll sizzle your socks right off.
I didn't love Drake at first, but I easily warmed up to her as her story unfolded and the reasoning for earlier things became clear.
There is a conflict, but can I get a whoop whoop for no 3rd act breakup? So refreshing! And what Easton did to resolve the conflict was everything.
Overall, a wonderful start to a new series. I can already see how Holden and Grayson's stories are going to be just as great!

Claire & Graham have been friends for years and roommates for 1. Both still single in their 30's and agree to marry if they haven't found the one by 40. Claire is looking for love and Graham is not the relationship type when they step into a friends with benefits situation.
Graham is on my book boyfriend list. He's so sweet and lovable, and his devotion to his family and his dog, Gertrude, was adorable. He's used to being super active and always down for an adventure ~ camping, mountain biking and rock climbing are his favorites, so when he breaks his leg and is practically bedridden for weeks he gets really frustrated, which I felt was realistically written. He really grew as a person throughout the book and I liked the email/journal entries he wrote as a form of therapy.
Claire was a great caretaker and friend. I liked her for most of the book, but her character went downhill for me at a certain point, stayed down for a bit and then eased her way back up the hill into likable territory.
Overall, I loved these two together ~ great chemistry, great banter and they just seemed like they had a great time together. Love that we had both POV's, too. I have to round down my 4.5 because I absolutely hated the 3rd act breakup, which I usually do. There's maybe a tiny part of me, like my hangnail size, that understands the reasoning, but I'm a YOLO'er. Anything can happen at any time to give you the boot out of life....ya never know, so live it.
So technically this is not listed as a series, but the characters from Would You Rather are very involved here since they're best friends, so do with that what you will.

Brinley & Van Brinley (great name!) was widowed at just 21, 4 years ago. Not just her super large family, but everyone in their small town is very protective of her, so when her new roommate turns out to be a tattooed well built hunk everyone is on high alert to make sure she doesn't get hurt.
Book boyfriend alert!! I loved Van so much! For looking like a bad boy he totally did not give off that vibe at all. His backstory was heartbreaking, but what he did to move on from it was commendable. He's sweeter than chocolate icing, respectful and patient with the added bonus of rock hard snug-able abs and he cooks! And the camping with the Girl Scouts, gah, just adorable!
We have a bunch of Bailey's involved in the story. I liked the close cousin relationship Brinley has with Calista, Easton and Lance. I really need to go back and read that whole series. I especially want to meet the infamous Great Grandma Dori who sounds like she was an absolute delight. We've got the setup for The Trouble with Runaway Brides, so I'm looking forward to that.
I really loved everything about this book. They were so comfortable with each other right away. Their mutual attraction is undeniable. I'm not even mad about the 3rd act breakup as I can see why they felt they had to walk away. Could I have went for a longer discussion about it? sure could've, but I'm happy with how it ended.
The only reason behind my -.25 is because of the bonus chapters that I read from signing up for the newsletter. I won't give anything away, but I didn't like the place they visited since IMO there are more worthy places where they could of found what they were looking for.

I think this might be my favorite of the series. Jamie & Fallon Former playboy turned single dad in a blink of an eye and he stepped into fatherhood with ease. He always seemed so easy going with an it is what it is attitude in previous books, so I liked that he really stepped up at the pub, too, and took over managing it while his parents were away. Fallon was so sweet and so good with baby, Asher, too. I hate how she was so hard on herself not being able to keep a job, but what she ended up doing in the end just felt perfect for her. I felt their relationship developed at a nice pace and did not feel rushed. 3rd act breakup for the birds as they usually are.
If you've read my reviews on this series before ~ I'm happy to report that meddling mom, Kate, has really tamed down. She only made a couple of appearances and not until the end and barely meddled.
Another delightful addition to the series. Up next is Patrick's story. I've smelt this set up for a while and I'm excited the author is going to give us a different trope.

Rylee & Hayden meet on a private plane flight that crash lands on a deserted island. An island that Hayden just conveniently happens to own.
Rylee thinks she already knows who Hayden is based on something that happened in the past. She jumps to conclusions and assumes she knows what type of man he is, but it only takes a couple of days of forced proximity to fall for each other. I enjoyed Hayden's personality and how Rylee helped him realize he could do more good in the world with his billions.

Kelsey & JP Kelsey was really mean to him in the beginning and I was getting really mad at her. Slowly she started being nicer, but I wish it didn't take so long.
Oh JP I love you. So misunderstood and a closet do gooder, I mean pigeons need saving too. I do wish he made her wait longer before telling her his name because I liked all the guesses she made. I think there was too much talk about his past sexual encounters too.
"I hang up the phone and then go to my room to pick up my book, a romcom about three siblings who go back to their hometown to throw an anniversary party for their parents" good stuff to give a nod to her other book ~ The Reunion. Also, it was fun that Kelsey had a podcast that interviewed characters in other books by Meghan.
Overall, I didn't love it as much as book 1, but still enjoyed it well enough. Up next is Breaker's (what kinda name is that) story.

Finally! Chase & Twyla's story, woo hoo! I've been waiting for ages for them to get together and it was just as great as I had a feeling it would be.
Twyla is fresh from dumping her cheating fiance, so she temporarily moves from Connecticut to California and right across the hall from a 6'4" 265 lb solid muscle beefcake. Chase is an anti-social grump, but perhaps he was just waiting on a special someone to show him some sunshine. And Twyla is just the lady that might cut through that hard muscly exterior and bring out the sweetness.
Miles is a way overprotective brother (his reasoning is semi acceptable), so Twyla thinks it's a good idea to sneak around. You know how that'll go six way from Sunday night football.
These two had undeniable chemistry that had me fanning myself a time or two. I loved them and what was in his secret room too.
Overall, a wonderful end this trilogy + the .5 prequel that started it. I am super excited for the set up for a new series that will follow football team Chicago Grizzlies. I've been waiting on the first couples story for 3 books and I know that it will be just as delightful as this one.

Holy rival family drama mama!
Featuring ~ dual 3rd person POV, rivalry between the mom's, forced proximity, forbidden romance, secret crushes from high school, h & H now in their late 20's, no steamage
Evita & Ryan's moms have been rivals since high school. Now they both win the same vacation house at an auction and are forced to spend the week together. Thus sets forth the dividing of bedrooms and scheduling of when they can use certain rooms and items.
Oye, this was something. The younger generation acted more grown up than the parents did. I never understand why parents think they can run their adult child's life and have a say in who they date. Didn't they raise them to have a proper head on their shoulders and know what's best for themselves? I hope I have done so for my child. Anyway, I did really liked how Evita and Ryan tried to keep the peace and get to know each other again.
One part that bugged me ~ the one mother wouldn't give up their beach umbrella, that they weren't even using!, so a baby could have shade. That's not very motherly. Just petty.
Overall, this was more frustrating than exciting for me. Happy there was not a for the birds 3rd act break up at least.
Narration: Karla Serrato ~ 9 hours 42 minutes ~ fine job. I'm a broken record again, but I would have loved a male narrator for this one. There are quite a few characters staying in the house and it would have been easier to keep track of whose family they were apart of if we had 2 narrators.

Rosie is an author, but suffering from writers block. Lucas offers to help her out by taking her on dates for some inspiration. There were some slow points, but overall I thought it was cute~ish. It probably could have been cut down a bit. I hated the inevitable break up.
Steamage is minimal in how many times it's written, but not minimal is description.

Brady was such a great dad and Theo was a great 6 year old boy. He was perfectly behaved and such a delight. Perhaps that's due to Brady and Hannah's wonderful co-parenting regime. I loved Theo and Violet's relationship too. I am going to give myself 2 more single dad books before I determine that maybe I really don't mind them at all.
Brady has a wonderful relationship with his parents ~ his mom is a hoot! But, Violet's mom was a bit much with her meddling.
Overall, an all around delight! I am loving this series. I've smelled the set up since book 1 for the next book and I'll be ready and waiting for Chase and Twyla's story.
Series notes: yes a standalone, but our book 1 characters make a few appearances, so you might as well read books .5 and 1 first.
Narration notes: I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.

Serena & Ziggy Serena has lost her job at Diana's (a tea room), and her apartment in quick succession when her boss/friend, Diana, passes away. It just so happens that her friend, Taylor, is looking for someone to house sit for a few weeks. Perfect!...or not, since Taylor's husband, Tim, has asked his mate, Ziggy, to house sit too.
They agree they can make it work and live together, but right off the bat they don't get along so well and begin to frustrate each other. When a prank goes too far they put their differences aside and work together to fix their mistake. Eventually their hate for each other grows into more.
I wish we had more time with Diana. She seemed like a great person that her two selfish money grubbing children neglected and didn't deserve. No wonder she left her pride and joy business, Dirty Di's, to Serena. I would have liked more emphasis on the business part of the story. And how do you use the sculpture ~ did I miss the answer?
The whole cheating plot went on a bit longer than I would have liked. Speaking up would've been a lot easier than what Serena did to get him caught.
Side character Al was great and I love that he found a love interest ~ I wouldn't mind a book about him, but only if he wears his plastic thong.
Overall, a quick and easy read.
