Jane & Walker Jane is ready to settle down and find love on the island she adores. She uses popular book tropes to set the tone. And boy do we hear the word trope a bunch, a bit too much obsessively tropey for me. But now her school crush is back in town putting a damper on her plans to find love this summer.
Walker is ready to get his golf game back on track after an injury. He’s not interested in being on the island any longer than he needs to, but his sister's best friend catches his eye. Will the fun times they have together make him change his mind and stay? Or is hanging with Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods more appleaing? That’d be a yes to Brooks for me, wink wink.
I could’ve gone without the time wasting because of the sister crap, but overall this was cute, had some nice banter and a great series starter. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for the rest of the island peeps.
Narration notes: Duet!! Whoop whoop! Both of their voices were pleasing to my ears.

Brady & Lily (28) meet on a flight and can't keep their eyes off of each other. After a night of mind blowing loving she's the one sneaking out in the early hours, which is something that has never happened to Brady. Their story continues 6 months later when they see each other again on another flight.
Lily has a backstory that's slowly revealed. While I can feel for what she's been through I didn't feel fully gripped with that part of the story.
I always know what to expect with the MMC's with this author. They're always dominant, alphas and self proclaimed bachelors that never want to be tied down until they're taken by surprise by a special lady and then they're mush for her. Brady would do anything to protect her and that he does. I gotta say I was a bit surprised about something big he did, it was pretty dark and unexpected.
Overall, their chemistry is great and I love not having a 3rd act breakup. Not my favorite of the series, but a fine installment to it.
Series notes: This one would be fine as a standalone. I felt like some of Dalton's from The Dalton Family series popped in more than the Spade brothers did.
Narration notes: Seems like Tor has not worked on his lady voice. It'd be great if he only ever had to do male parts because he does a super job with those. I cringe every time it's sexy scene time with him. Ava did great all around.

Sutton (23) & Shaw (2o's) (cute names) have been rivals since they were children. Now they’re going to be seeing a lot of each since she’ll be working for the hockey team he plays for.
I’m so happy this was a clean romance just because of their age, which is my personal preference at this point in my life. There’s definitely a new adult vibe with some of their possessions, interactions and thoughts being OTT and immature, but the banter was good since they’ve known each other for a very long time, so there’s a sort of ease to it.
The burn is super slooooowwww, almost too slow, so I wish their declaration of feelings happened a bit sooner. I’m thrilled this was dual POV because Shaw really brought his A game with his feelings. The brother's best friend/best friend's sister trope was well done.
Overall, this was really caaauuutttte and sweet! The bonus epilogue gives us a sneak peek of what’s to come in the next book and I’d totally be interested in reading or listening to it.
Narration notes: They both did a perfectly fine job. She sounded age appropriate.
Bridget has inherited her grandmother, Vera's, house after she passed. They were estranged for a while, so it was a shock to learn this news. What was more of a shock was that Vera also left it to Cole. She and Cole lived in the house together for a time when they were kids and didn't get along at all, so she's right livid about sharing the house with him.
I liked the thought of a build up of the suspense with the letters trickling in, and while some things they learn are shocking, it was still a bit of a slow burn to get to the big hurrah. I must say I did like what the hurrah turned out to be, though.
Overall, a quick read that is more domestic fiction with a little mystery and romance. I was hoping for more of a domestic thriller, which is the genre I prefer from this author it seems. I love the cover that gives off a good vibe for the story, but in turn it makes it seems like it should be more suspenseful and thrilling, so do I feel duped? Maybe.
Narration notes: Bridget's narrator spoke with an attitude, which seemed perfect for the role since she wasn't feeling Cole in the beginning. Vera's narrator was perfect all around.
When I hear there's a serial killer, and one based on the real life, Yorkshire Ripper, I expect killings to be a main focal point of the story, but that's not really the case here. I mean I don't need to read about the attacks in a gruesome way per say, but this is mostly about Rebecca and her relationships with 3 men. As you can probably figure out by the way the blurb is written one of these 3 is our killer.
Overall, I do think it was well written for what it is, but I was just expecting something more chilling and thrilling. I remained fully in the middle of my seat the whole time.
Narration notes: She did a good job. She gave each character a distinct voice. She even did an American man accent pretty well.

Estranged, total opposite, sisters, Catherine & Anna, are off to Scotland to try to reconnect. It's not proving to be too easy when weird things begin happening at the cabin. Add in no cell service and the creep factor for them is intensified.
This was a super slow mover and the secrets and twists weren't exactly mind blowing. Some chapters were very long, like over 40 minutes and one was even over an hour, which is way too long in my opinion. I did enjoy the creepy vibe of the location and the very end. All in all, fine, but I can see other's enjoying it more than me, especially if they read and not listen.
Narration notes: I'm not sure which narrator was for who, but I felt like Catherine's was yelling at me the whole time. She seemed very grumpy with her gruff tone, which I guess maybe was fitting since she didn't really want to go on the trip in the first place. She took me out of the story a bit. The other did a perfectly fine job.

We meet Grace, our main narrator, as she's tending to a man held captive in her home.
As the story progresses we learn that Grace and her younger sister, Amber, were victims of abuse, starvation and neglect when they were very young.
We hear from a detective, Jerry, who tried his best to be there for Grace and Amber. I give him an A for effort because he really tried.
A truly heartbreaking read that's dark and disturbing and definitely difficult to read/listen at times. It's probably one of the most disturbing I've read.
Narration notes: Overall, she did fine, but I wish there was a male narrator.

Don’t be fooled by the dead body talk in the blurb like I was. This is full on family drama, not a murder mystery.
Hannah and her immediate family are vacationing with her sister and her family. When they arrive at the villa they discover a body floating in the pool.
While the body is discussed quite frequently it still takes a back seat to major family drama. Maybe it’s my fault, but when I saw the discovery of a dead body in the pool written in the blurb I stopped reading because I love when dead bodies are discovered, so I thought I’m in for a great murder mystery. Big nope!
Not one character is likable and they all bugged me at one point or another. I suppose little 7 year old Jimmy was fine~ish with his innocence, but he doesn’t make great choices. The teenage girls are unbearable. There’s tension with the adults. None stop bickering back and forth, awful things were said to each other and about others. Just too much family drama for me.
They’re British, but in France and only one of them knows how to speak French, so it's spoken quite a few times and then it’s translated for everyone else. Although that's great so we're not lost, it still really bogged down the story for me.
Overall, not for me, but if you know it’s a family drama going into it maybe you’ll enjoy it more than me.
Narration notes: So overall she did fine. She gave each character their own voice, but some really grated on my nerves.

Holly & Jax Holly is nearing 30 and ready to find love and goes on date after date after awful date. Jax doesn't believe in love, but offers to help her find the one. It's obvious where the story will lead us, but it was a fun hike there.
I really liked how they became great friends first, which slowly and realistically developed into more. She was pushed out of her comfort zone and loved doing outdoorsy things she never thought she would. He was totally taken by surprise with feelings he never thought he'd feel.
Overall, super sweet, super fun and the banter was top notch. Be sure to check out Katie's other books because I've enjoyed every one I've read so far, well this is only my 3rd but still.
Narration notes: Abigail did a great job. David did, as well, however he did not sound like he'd be a mountain man at all, which is how Jax is described.
Additional notes: I haven't read it yet, but Season's Schemings is Maddie's book and she is Jax's step sister. I do wish I had read that one first, but I see nothing written anywhere that these are a series, so how was I suppose to know? Now I know what's happening with her life, so that'll be a bit spoiled if I read it.

He wants to teach 5th grade, but when a job opportunity comes up for kindergarten in Sweetbriar, Virginia he decides to get his foot in the door and some experience under his belt since this would be his first teaching job.
Chloe is kindergarten teacher of the year for 2 years running. Will this handsome stranger give her some competition, or will she hold the title once again?
If you've read the other books you know there's always a little bit of family drama, but it wasn't as bad in this one, so woo hoo for that.
Both characters are sweet and I felt their attraction towardseach other. I liked the business adventure they're embarking on together. The 3rd act breakup was awfully childish, but it was still an enjoyable read overall.
Series notes: This series follows siblings, so I suggest reading them in order so that you can familiarize yourself with the family and know who's who and what's what.
Narration notes: Carly narrates all of Samantha's books, so I'm used to her lovely narration (even though I'd like a male narrator).

Devin & MacKenzie meet when her classic car breaks down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, in a storm to boot. Devin just so happens to be the best mechanic in town, so he can't help but offer his services to a damsel in distress.
Side note ~ I do have to mention that her GPS didn't seem to be working because the route doesn't make a whole lot of sense. She's going from New York to Oregon, but ends up in Virginia. Perhaps taking the scenic route?
Due to a festival there isn't a room to rent in the whole town, so MacKenzie reluctantly accepts Devin's offer of his spare room. Not because he's creepy, but she doesn't want to be a burden due to her unresolved mommy issues. But the room, or the labor for her car, doesn't come for free as she'll be working in his shop at the front desk.
Per usual with this series we have full on small town vibes and outsider, MacKenzie, is welcomed with open arms by all. I love that there was a festival everyone was looking forward to attending. I'm not big on festivals, but even I would like to go to it, minus the ferris wheel as I'm not a fan of those, give me a roller coaster any day.
Anyway, a smidgen of no communication, as usual, but overall I liked both of them separately and as a couple. They were both so sweet. His grand gesture might have been one of the most adorable ones I've read.
Narration notes: Carly narrates all of Samantha's books, so my ears are settled with the fact that I'll never get a second narrator for the male parts. She does a great job, though, so that's good at least.
Series notes: This one is a little different in this series because neither character is a Donovan, but it takes place in Sweetbriar Ridge, so we still interact with some of the Donovans. It's unnumbered and is best read between Teasing You and Wanting You.

Ashlynn & Reid went to high school together, but meet again at their best friends's engagement party years later. She's not too thrilled to see him, but perhaps he can charm his way into her life again.
As you can read from the blurb there's some drama when she's accused of arson, which doesn't bode well for Reid as the newbie at the fire department. Does he handle it well? Initially yes, but then nope. Does he eventually redeem himself in a hilarious manner? Sure does.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. Reid's a pretty sweet guy. Ashlynn was fine, but I'm not feeling the added drama with her parents, which I have a feeling with continue to carry over into the rest of the series.
Series notes: This series follows siblings, so I suggest reading them in order so that you can familiarize yourself with the family and know who's who and what's what. If you want to go above and beyond read The Donovans: Laurel Bay series first since this series is a spin off from that one.
Narration notes: Carly does a great job, but it's not a shocker that I'd like a male narrator too.

Listen there is a similarity with Marni's books, yet each character is still unique. Fast burn and full of steamage is guaranteed. They typically meet in a bar, too. You can count on a H that has gotten around town and then some, but has finally found someone to change his ways, is cocky and knows how to hit it and never wanna quit it. The h's are always strong and independent.
Here we have Cooper (29) & Rowan (29) who find themselves snowed in with all flights delayed for days, and only one bed available...whatever will they do?
Just when I think I have enough book boyfriends another is added to the list. This guy is so sweet and attentive, and protective. And when he got some unexpected news his response was absolutely perfect. Ford Dalton from The Single Dad is still my favorite, but Cooper comes in at a close second.
Rowan knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak up, even when she gets the cold shoulder.
Overall, lovedy love loved. The epilogue just might bring a tear to your eye.
Series notes This series follows brothers in business together, so you might as well read the 1st one 1st so that you know what's up with the family. Then you'll be ready for Brady's story coming out in June 2024. This is also a spin-off of The Daltons series and some of those characters are involved here. I suppose it's not absolutely necessary to read those first, but they're quite enjoyable, so why not?
Narration notes: Both narrators did great. Their opposite voices weren't bad.

Leonie made a terrible mistake when she was 16. A mistake that she'll feel guilty about for years to come. Not so guilty that she won't make a wonderful life for herself with a flourishing career though, and now she has a handsome fiance to make her life complete.
Carrie is down on her luck at a dead end job and living with people she hates. Will a new job help her to get back on track with what she truly wants to do?
No one is particularly likable, especially Leonie's father, who was so annoyingly awful. He's the one that should feel the most guilt IMO.
It's no secret where the plot is taking us, but the journey of revenge is a pretty intense ride towards the end. Overall, another great read by Rijks with a surprise or two you won't see coming.
Narration notes: Both narrators were fine overall. I didn't care for their male parts, as they gave them a sort of condescending tone. I guess maybe that does work well the more I think about it.

Once these two see each other there's a familiarity....y'all, he saved her from bullies back in elementary school! How adorable! And it was when they lived in a different state! If that's not FATE then I don't know the meaning of the word!
There are a few different plot lines that come together nicely. We get the perspectives of many characters, but it's pretty easy to follow along with. The Pope family is so tight knit, delightful and welcoming. The characters that are supposed to be horrible are perfectly written as such.
Overall, I loved it! It's super fast paced with hardly any downtime of action. I think I spotted the set up for the next book, so I can't wait until that comes out.
I have 3 gripes, which did not affect my review ~ Ghost, the hero dog, who I've come to love from the previous books barely had any page time ~ The Culinary Institute of America is in Hyde Park, NY, which is upstate not in NYC ~ since Heartbeat is one word it should be shown as such on the cover
Series notes: I suppose not absolutely necessary to read the first two, but the Pope's are one big happy family, so they're interacted with often, especially mamma, Shirley. The whole series is great, so you might as well start at the beginning.

Billie & Brett had a meet cute when he saved her from tripping, but then we're suddenly in insta-lust territory.
I've read a few of this author's books and they're pretty much all the same in that the heroine has suffered a trauma and the hero swoops in and vows to protect her. That's fine because it's her thing, but this one was just okay for me.
Obviously you feel bad for what Billie went through when she was 12. Escaping a serial killer and then losing her mom and brother 2 days later. But I never really warmed up to her. She has an obsession with animals, especially chickens, even drooling at goat yoga because she was so excited, so weird.
While I do like a protective fella, Brett was a little too protective, boarding on possessive And if that's the case how in the heck did he allow the whole gas station scene to come about. As soon as she opens the door you know something bad is going to go down. Also, was not feeling Brett's reaction to the L word.
If you couldn't tell I was not a super big fan of these characters. I wasn't feeling their 'need' for each other at the most inopportune times and I absolutely could not stand the nickname he gave her, it turned my stomach hearing it. I did like Billie's found family and how super protective they were of her, even if the 'sister' was a little much at times
Overall, it was a bit predictable. As far as the whole serial killer reveal, eh it was fine. Also, liked how some of Tijan's other book characters make an appearance here.
Narration notes: Andi is perfect as always. Teddy is mostly okay, except for her lady voices.

Lily was really frustrating me and I never really warmed up to her. From only feeling like she can eat salads to her keeping her health issues to herself yet being mad when her grandfather didn't share his to her 3rd act shenanigans. She was so stubborn and just totally bugged me. I did like when she finally figured things out in the end.
Sweet Noah, sweet sweet Noah. I loved him. I could see why he was having reservations about being with Lily.
While the epilogue was cute I found what happened to be too soon to give it a realistic feel with how their story was told.
Overall, an okay start to a series. Even though I didn't absolutely love this one I'll see what the rest of the series has to offer for Noah's brothers.
