Since my daughter and I read the Harry Potter books together a few years ago I thought it'd be nice to read this one together.
Sometimes we think actors are really just like their characters and I will admit I wasn't a fan of Draco ~ he's the character you love to hate. And I'm not really sure if I have seen him in any other films. Luckily he wasn't the big meany pants that we were used to seeing on screen. I loved reading how they were really all a big family.
He tells his story of being in the public eye and his struggles with alcohol and drug use. Of course I wasn't aware of his struggles, since I don't follow him, so I appreciated his candor and willingness to get help.
I love what he said about Neville and how he very much looked the part, until "each year, when we all congregated to make the next film, Matthew was ever so slightly hunkier, which meant that -physically speaking - he was ever so slightly less Neville-like." They had to give him a wedge behind his ears, fake teeth and a little fat suit to stop him looking like the hunk he was becoming. I mean HELLO, have you seen him lately? If not, google Matthew Lewis if you need some 33 year old eye candy. Luckily I'm not too old that I sound creepy saying that.
I grabbed a physical copy from my library too so I could leaf through it. I enjoyed looking at the pictures that showed his life growing up with his family, and on sets, and the lifelong friendships he made along the way.
I love that it was narrated by Tom. I feel it gives his story a little more oomph. It's 6 hours and 36 minutes. I am used to listening at 2-2.5x, but my daughter is not, so we mostly were around 2x. With his accent it is a little difficult to understand him at super speed, so 2x was a sweet spot.

Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, dual timeline, death of fiancé, secrets
Our main characters are: Colbie ~ surviving fiance Phil ~ deceased fiance James ~ Colbie's BFF Eric ~ Phil's BFF Miles ~ a close friend
One year after the wedding day death of Phil, Colbie goes away for the weekend with James, Eric and Miles in order to open letters written to the bride and groom. There's one letter in there that opens up a whole can of worms.
I did like the plot and the dual timeline of the present and a year before on the wedding day. I wouldn't say it was super suspenseful, but it kept me intrigued and patiently waiting to know how Phil died and what his secret was. The secret was on the meh side for me. For the most part I didn't really mind any of the main characters. I hated the characters I was supposed to ~ Phil's parents and Colbie's sister. I was surprised about the ending, not the death part but the end end, and I'm not sure I liked it.
Narrated by Subhadra Newton for 6 hours on the dot, easy to follow at 2x. She did a lovely job and I didn't mind her male voices.

Unfortunately, this was super slow going for me and I didn't really care for either main character, or the side characters for that matter. The flashbacks back to 1995 kept me listening so I could how it would all play out.
I didn't write down specifically what was written, but this had me like what?? ~ she smelled smoke, so she grabbed a knife. Do ya plan on stabbing the flames?? Perhaps she should concentrate on getting her preggers self out of the house before the smoke inhalation kicks in.
Narration notes ~ so when she was speaking in whichever POV character we were on she did a fine job, but when she had to do other voices she totally slowed down her speaking like she had to concentrate on it. I could've went for a second narrator for some distinction.

The intriguing prologue had me waiting ages and ages to find out what happened to lead to the circumstances of Ally's memory loss.
Part 1 is told solely by Adam, a super famous, wealthy travel photographer. He is controlling, obsessive and possessive from the moment he meets Ally, and honestly he was giving me creepy vibes for quite a bit. He was all about how manipulating her family is, but hello pot have ya met kettle? I did like part 2 Adam much more than part 1.
Elena was a fun, sassy lady and I loved her commitment to the animal shelter. Sarah wins the award for worst mother of the century.
Part 2 picks up where the prologue left off and we finally get some chapters from Ally's POV. Ally comes off very immature and weak. And I know most of it stems from her family life, but I was waiting with bated breath for far too long for her to grow up. I was really frustrated with her at the 54% mark. It took a bit, but I'm happy she finally matured into a strong woman.
Overall, a good read and I really liked the epilogue.

Told in the now by Trisha and in the before by Adrienne with some transcripts thrown in for fun. This approach was a good call to build up the suspense.
Adrienne is a psychiatrist and seemed a little cray cray. Trisha was really getting on my nerves being so scared of the house and she seemed a little cray cray, too. Plenty of secrets to go around. Also, if you're snowed in and don't know when you'll be able to get out for food why are you throwing away perfectly cooked eggs?? wasteful.
So I am going to put this one in the middle. It wasn't a perfect thriller ~ I liked some things and didn't like some other things. I'm still wondering how the twist didn't dawn on me sooner cuz it's rather obvious looking back. Interesting ending though.
Narration notes ~ fine job, but wish I could've sped it up some more without it skipping. Her voice was a little slow and I really wish there were 2 different narrators or some distinction between characters. I'm wondering if I would've enjoyed it a tad more if I read it rather than listened.

Break out the fan cuz these two will give you 2nd degree burns with their smoking hot chemistry.
I am usually not a fan of children in my romance books, but Ford makes me second guess that. He's such a great dad with Everly and she has him wrapped around her precious little finger. Sydney is so patient and great with her. I love that Dominic and Jenner are doting uncles too.
I really can't think of anything I disliked and that's super rare ~ maybe I could have went for a more clever title, there that's something. Between the steamage, shocking revelation and an adorable epilogue it was all around perfection.

He's so adorable and I love his toothy grin. The title is great too. Overall, the book is super cute, BUT I am not sure about the message for 4-8 year olds.
All Finley wants to do is ride the train through Alaska, but the conductor kicks him off because he's 'a wild animal'. He comes up with the idea to put a costume on to make him be less noticeable. My favorite was the hot dog with his bird friend as the mustard. All of the costumes are fun, but time and time again he's kicked off because 'rules are rules'. However, when Finley's help is needed to get a tree off the tracks he's deemed a hero and is now allowed to have his dream come true to ride the train.
So here's my gripe about the message ~ the book makes it seem like it's okay to be sneaky to get what you want and then when you do something good it's okay to break the rules. I do think that most kids will probably overlook this and see the story for what it's really supposed to be ~ a fun loving heartfelt story about determination. With that said I really do recommend it.
The illustrations by Chantelle Thorne and Burgen Thorne were very well done.

In this installment we are very thoroughly introduced to new characters ~ Frank, Isabelle and Lydia. As the story flows along we realize they play a big part in the story and how it correlates with our serial killer, Tracey.
Frank and Isabelle were childhood best friends, but never more than friends. There's so much I can say about the ups and downs of their relationship, but I don't want to give too much away.
It's told in multiple timelines ~ starting back in the 80's and moving along to 2012. Some chapters spanned years and others for just a short time. There was more in depth information on characters that were briefly mentioned in book 1, like Lydia. We were given another view of what we already read about, ie ~ we saw the other side of Raul's wedding as Tracey sat near by in the restaurant, which I thought was clever.
I was excited to learn more about Tracey's life. He's traveling the world with Charlotte, whom he met at the end of the previous book. The river boat cruise is the perfect way to hide out and also provides a good cover if he may kill again. I feel like the authors researched well to provide great atmospheric details on all the different countries visited.
I was super sad about who they decided to kill off, but I can't wait to see more about how that, and the investigative side in Raleigh, will play out in the continuing story ~ A Body Washes Ashore.
In my review for book 1 I said I was hoping for more murder in this one, but actually I was happy with how everything played out (except for the death) and wasn't mad there wasn't much on the murder front. There was still a bunch of inner monologue, but I expected it and quickly got used to it.

Our main characters are: Tracey ~ serial killer, Gia ~ 18 years old on her own for the first time, Sal ~ realtor, Raul~ pediatrician, Joseph ~ stockbroker
The story begins in April 1998 with Tracey and ends in 2011 with Tracey, but the majority of the story is not about him at all. It took a long time to see how the dual plots would intertwine with each other. As the story progresses you can see how everything will eventually align though.
Jaime’s Taberna in Madrid is where Gia first meets best friends Sal, Raul and Joseph. As they get acquainted with each other Gia proposes a fake relationship with all 3. They agree and draw up terms for a four month contract, which turns into years of friendship and fun along the way.
Years after the 4th killing a reporter puts 2 and 2 together and starts thinking that there's a possible serial killer in Raleigh, NC and the honorable Judge Tracey starts to panic. What a fun idea to put the actual newspaper clipping of the article into the text.
I'm not sure I've ever read a book with so much inner monologue and talking to oneself, and honestly I'm not sure I liked it. I did appreciate the differing font to help me get used to the writing style.
Overall, a good start to a new series and I'm interested to read what will happen next with all of the remaining characters and the new ones we'll meet. Based on the title I was expecting way more murder and I hope there is much more in the next one.

Casey was super sweet and went above and beyond to help. I was pooped just reading about all the work they all did in just 3 days time. I really liked that so many people came together to make the video and wedding happen. I wish I had pictures to see how it turned out because it sounded like it'd look cool. Of course we have one hiccup along the way and I was mad right along with everyone else that it happened.

They have an instant attraction, but it's hard to build something when Danny is only in Chicago for a 2 week vacation. That doesn't stop them from enjoying each other's company while they have the chance though.
I loved that Danny has a non-profit for kids, which shows that while he might look like a bad boy on the outside he's really sweet on the inside. Jules is confident and honest. They seem to have come into each other's lives at the perfect time. I'm so excited that Lottie had her own chapters as she really made this book for me. She is what I aspire to be when I am 80, not the old frump I feel like I'll be. She's spicy, sassy, carefree and full of life. I can't wait to read what happens next with her.

I'm glad I read this one first since there's an introduction to who book 2 will revolve around. It doesn't sound like I had to read them in order though, but it's just a personal preference.

Piper has been quite content with her life and not looking for love after a broken engagement. She has a sea glass mosaic business that keeps her busy. But Piper and Alex slowly start to spend some time together when touring the island and grow quite fond of each other.
I absolutely LOVED the 3 generational women's bond. Jax was a delight too and they had a great cousinly connection. Alex's relationship with his Grandpa was super sweet. I have a soft spot for older gentleman and I bet Colin was just absolutely adorable.
Sometimes you just need a heartwarming, sweet story and this one fits the bill. I'm always glad when there's a fun dog to round things out. The ending came on rather quickly and I wonder if these two will be heavily involved in the next book.

Kel & Anders Chapter 1 begins very heavy in 1997 with Kel (11) and Keo (17) finding their mom after she committed suicide. Flash forward 24 years and Kel is the owner of the Ohana Surfing Club. When he finds himself in financial strain with the business, and due to medical bills from his father's cancer, he turns to escorting to make ends meet. *Kel never felt like a grown man to me, maybe because he was first introduced to us when he was 11 and then boom he was 35. It was odd to me when he referred to the kids he provides housing to as 'his kids' too.
Anders was married to a woman for 20 years, but realized he wasn't happy and wanted to explore his sexuality as bi~sexual. Months after the divorce is finalized he contacts an escort service for his first gay encounter. They have an instant attraction, but Kel walks away and avoids seeing him again until Anders walks into the surf shop weeks later trying to buy his business. They come up with a plan that works for both of them, begin fake dating and spending a bunch of steamy time together. After only a few weeks together their relationship is tested and Anders stepped up to the 'boyfriend' plate in a big way.
This one is a heart string yanker, so it wouldn't hurt to have some tissues nearby. Although Kel and his fathers story line was a sad one it was also heartwarming as you could feel their love for each other. One thing that bugged me though was that so many people would say to them "oh I didn't know you were gay" and then they'd go on to say they were bi or pan ~ like what business is it of yours nosy pants, mind your beeswax.

Detective Marlitt Kaplan is visiting her professor mom on campus when there's a hit and run of a student. First on the scene, so she and her partner, Teddy, are on the case. Who is this victim, Jay Kemp (coincidence that he has the same last name as Georgia's Governor?) , and why does the driver look like he could be his twin?
I felt like Marlitt was out to prove herself and goes a little rogue, which I didn't hate per say because it just proves the corruption, but it's evident that she really hates Greek life. Of course we have a frat brother with a father that is the president of the school and one with a father that is in the political world. There was a lot of extra statistical information on Greek life, which doesn't really interest me.
Overall, an okay story that makes me scared that my child might attend the University of Georgia ~ not to say all this doesn't happen on campuses all across the country, but this is a little closer to home.
