While not knowing a lot about him, I thought this would be a good read, but I was super underwhelmed by this.
I did learn a lot about Tiger reading this and the amazing career he had from a very early age, but I felt the memoir was empty, thoughtless, and just filled with facts that somebody could have got off a website. No buildup to anything at all. That could be due to Pattersons patent 3 or 4 page chapters that make it difficult to really get to the heart of each story.
There was really nothing personal in this at all, and was really mostly about his career and how he placed in such and such a tournament, and how many strokes he won by…etc. I thought maybe Tiger helped Patterson with some of these stories and could have been a little more personal, but maybe he had nothing to do with it. I’m really not sure.
There was a very big missed opportunity to touch on the aftermath of surgeries where he didn’t play for years and the scandals he was involved with and the aftermath of the cheating and car wrecks he was in. It was mentioned, but glazed over the personal problems he went through, which if delved into could have made this memoir a lot better in my opinion.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the story as a whole but loved getting to learn some new things about a living legend. If you are interested in Tigers career this is the book for you. 3 stars. ...more

I didn’t realize this was a horror novel until about halfway through. Im not mad about this though as it was actually a pleasant surprise. I really thought I had this pegged and thought this was going to go one way and was genuinely surprised with the last quarter of the book and the finale.
I really liked the tone of this book. Very ominous, something definitely wrong but not quite sure what, and it continued wonderfully throughout.
I keep thinking about the ending and it’s something I can see sticking with me for a while. A definite page turner. Very memorable. 4 stars!! ...more

I was 14 when that album came out and I was just discovering what I liked listening to and just started buying my own CDS. This album was pretty pivotal in my life. I remember playing it constantly. So I was excited to read how Hootie And The Blowfish got started.
I really liked this memoir. It wasn’t super slow like most memoirs start out. The first chapter is about how he almost died swimming with Woody Harrelson, and after that we are off to the races. Super entertaining.
I know I’m super naive but I didn’t realize how much Darius and the band was into drugs. Never even crossed my mind, but they went super hard as one roadie put it, they party harder than the Rolling Stones and it’s non stop. Interesting part of the memoir.
I also didn’t realize David Letterman pretty much launched their career overnight. Crazy how one moment changed their life forever.
All in all a great success story and some funny moments throughout. While I wished he had touched on his personal family stories more, this was still really good. 4 and a half stars....more

Loved reading Creighton when I was a teenager and have always loved Patterson so I thought this was a must read.
The plot was exciting and a race against the clock type of story to save Hawaii from a super volcano and the big mistake the government left nearby. The character of John McGregor was played well as the hero to the story.
One thing I hated was there was that there was a countdown every couple chapters to when the volcano was going to blow and then when it came time to the moment of truth there was no real warning that it was happening so I was left wondering “was that it?” Seemed a little muddled to me.
The ending was also pretty lacklustre. I could definitely see this turning into a movie and has a summer blockbuster big action vibe to it. 3 and a half stars. ...more

Had a good usual thriller premise with a wedding party and others stuck on an island, with a killer and you’ll never believe it…a storm comes in and traps everyone (you’d think people would read a forecast by now before taking a vacation. lol)
Started off good and I felt like we were never properly introduced to some characters and had myself go back a few times and go “who was that again?” And between the wedding party, other guests, and staff there was not an abundance of characters.
I was pretty annoyed with the main character and how quick she joined forces with people she didn’t know to try and figure out the murder, just because she had dinner with them one evening. It was just not believable.
You know you have a complex plot when it takes 50 pages to explain what happened. I was pretty well over it by then.
On the fence with this. It was okay but nothing great by any means. 3 stars...more

It feels like a warm hug to me when I go back to these characters. Just the thought of a close knit island with a group of friends who are best selling authors seems like very cool premise to me.
These books always feels so unlike Grishams other writings, even though this one had the courtroom drama this time, unlike the other two, it all still feels very different.
It seems like I’ve read a lot about slaves and African American rights lately and I’m getting a bit of a burnout from it if I’m being honest. It’s a lot to take in. Overall this is still great, and as always, I’m a Grisham fan for life! 4 stars. ...more

There were some great stories in this and I liked it better than the last short story collection If It Bleeds. There was a wide array of stories with a lot of different subject matter. My Favourites were Two Talented Bastids (make another full length alien novel again please!!) and Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream. Least favourite was The Dreamers.

I don’t really remember in recent memory a book that just had me like that right from the start. There were layers to it. Super suspenseful, and intense. Then the aftermath and a psychological part of the book that had me second guessing and then a thrilling conclusion.
I was rooting HARD for the main character, and just felt in my heart of hearts like everything that she was saying was true. I was a bit annoyed by the cop and some of the repetitive questions that kept coming up for her, but when repeated I really questioned everything, so in the end it was good for the story.
I finished this right before bed and while laying there could feel my heart beating super fast and didn’t even realize the anxiety the ending gave me. What a ride. Fantastic debut. 5 stars!! ...more

First half was about the authors near death scare and what was wrong with him with some huge medical lingo and jargon that went way over my head, and the second half was not really what I was hoping for, and had some different things that just left me wondering.

While the story is short in stature, it took a long time to get to where it was going, It sputtered a few times at the start but eventually got there. The last 60 pages are a gong show and a cool showdown between the main characters and an urban legend that was used to scare them as kids into behaving that comes alive.
While the story was good the writing was a little weird for me and didn’t come across as the smoothest. Still a short fun read for something different. 4 stars. ...more

I liked it wayyyyy better than the brothers Hawthorne, and thought this was a good blend of having the puzzles of the inheritance games but with a new cast of characters and it still held my attention well.
This was told from the perspective of three different characters in three separate groups vying for the grand prize and with all different puzzles with each group and going back and forth between them, it got a bit jumbled in the middle with everything going on and trying to figure everything out.
I liked that this was not focused on Avery but had a main Hawthorne brother as a character thrown in so it felt familiar but different.
They said this was the second annual grandest game so trying to fill in the blanks of the first was a bit of a challenge, so I hope the storyline revisits that at some point.
The cliffhanger!! Ugh. I was expecting 20 more pages but it was “deleted” scenes instead so this ended before I thought it would and I was not ready!!
Overall I enjoyed revisiting this series again. 4 stars

This is the third book in the Housemaid series and picks up where Millie is years later from the first two books.
I’m a little torn on this. While it was something completely different from the previous two novels, I rolled my eyes when I got to “the plan” part again! The plan was something that I really loved about the first book. It was unexpected and original, but in this it seemed kind of lazy and unoriginal and I knew what was going on from that point on.
The story was otherwise alright. Fast paced, moved well and it was an easy read. I like reconnecting to the characters and the mystery that comes with this series.

I wanted to like this as Lindsay and pals are easily one of my favourite series, but it was very forgettable.
Out of the three storyline cases, only one really interested me and it was a case of a woman with multiple personality getting raped and assaulted. Did one of her alter egos ask for it? Or was she a hapless victim? Thought it was the only interesting spin on an otherwise lame instalment . Cindy gets married as well but wasn’t a huge part of the storyline. She was actually left out of a lot of this.

One of the things that I really loved about Henry’s other books were the banter between the two main characters. Always funny and smart and quick witted. I was surprised this didn’t have the great banter I have come to love, but instead took on more of a serious note and I wasn’t mad at it. It was different and it worked well.

This story had so many layers to it, the race wars of the 60s, the people who fight for equal rights, a double murder, retaliation, retribution, special needs and a few other things in between, this novel had it all.
I have to admit when I first started this gave off huge “A time to kill” vibes and while I do think there are a lot of similarities between the two, both are equally good in their own ways, and I really enjoyed this. It was powerful and very detailed. I can’t even imagine what it was like to live during that time.
I really wanted to like this. I had seen some reviews on it and thought I’d get a winner, but was a little disappointed to be honest.

It started great. Fast moving, easy to read, page turning, and then about halfway we got into a supernatural element which I was not expecting and it was all downhill from there. It lost me completely and I just felt blah trying to finish it.
Guess I should have read up a little more on it, but what was going to be a terrific murder thriller, turned out to be a far gone supernatural fail. I gave it 3 stars for the first half of the book which I really liked. The rest was incorrigible. 3 stars. ...more

While it’s nothing earth shattering, it sheds a different light on people I wouldn’t normally think about, and how much satisfaction they get helping people pick just the right book, or how they enjoy the challenge of getting kids interested in reading.
Funny, even my tiny little Manitoba town made the book with a woman who started here over 55 years ago. Which got me interested in the history and where the store was as I knew nothing about this because it was well before my time. Kinda cool.

I’d get into it and then it would be slow. Then I’d get into it again and then it would be slow again. Seemed like there was too much filler as this is a 400 page YA thriller.
