After childhood plans to become the captain of a starship didn’t pan out, Suzanne Brockmann took her fascination with military history, her respect for the men and women who serve, her reverence for diversity, and her love of storytelling, and explored brave new worlds as a bestselling romance author.

Over the past thirty years she has written sixty-three novels, including her award-winning Troubleshooters series about Navy SEAL heroes and the women—and sometimes men—who win their hearts. Her personal favorite is the one where her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, wins his happily-ever-after and marries the man of his dreams. Called All Through the Night, this mainstream romance novel with a hero and a hero hit the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. March 17, 2022 Update
Lieutenant Teri Howe is a naval reserve helicopter pilot who loves flying. She’s assigned to San Diego’s SEAL Team 16 and loves the opportunity. However, her looks attract unwanted attention from higher ranking officers and she’s unable to successfully fend them off. Enter SEAL Team 16 Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok, known for his uncanny ability to solve any problem handed to him. When he witnesses one of these unwanted assaults, he skillfully steps in and neutralizes the situation without jeopardizing his own military standing as the offender is an officer and he’s not. Stan’s admired Teri from afar but believes she’s way out of his league. But, he’s determined to work with her to develop her own skills to take a stand for herself.

In addition to Teri and Stan, the team is called back to Kazbekistan when an airplane is hijacked on its way from Greece to New York and lands there. Max Bhagat is the FBI hostage negotiator working with Sam Starrett as the SEAL Team leader. And speaking of Sam, he’s got his own nightmare operating in daylight when Alyssa Locke accompanies Max as an observer.

It’s been over ten years since I first read this story and my original 5 star review is even stronger, assisted by the outstanding narration on audio. There are multiple storylines at play here and they are masterfully threaded to create a powerfully cohesive one. Teri and Stan’s developing romance was poignant at times, hilarious at others but always one I strongly rooted for. The hostage standoff evolved from one of incredible courage by Gina Vitagliano, one of the passengers, to a horrific experience that brought me to tears. Sam and Alyssa took a major step forward and two back. It was heartbreaking. I’m glad I decided to reread the story by listening to the audio version as the narrator delivered an excellent performance. There were several character distinctions I found inspiring along with her ability to manage a range of emotional scenes. While I remembered the essence of the book, it was very close to experiencing it as a first time read. It is timeless!

This is the most exciting story in the series to date. Loved getting to know the members SEAL Team Sixteen and how so many separate stories were woven expertly into one great one. Well done.

It was supposed to be a training mission to a tropical island. When Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok requested that Pilot Teri Howell be part of the Navy SEALs training operation, he thought she would get to fly the helicopters and have some much needed time to relax and get away from a man who is harassing her. Instead, a plane carrying a Senator’s daughter is hijacked in Kazbekistan and SEALs Team Sixteen is called into action. As Stan and his team work with the FBI hostage negotiators and local police, they come up with a plan to free the hostages.

This is the third book in Brockmann’s Troubleshooters series and it’s a good one. There are many story threads. Along with Stan and Teri’s burgeoning romance and the SEALs working on a rescue plan, we have a WWII flashback story told by Jewish woman whose family hid from the Nazis in occupied Denmark. We also see Hostage Negotiator Max Bhagat trying to save the lives of the hostages, including a young woman he has feelings for. But my favorite portion of the book was the turbulent relationship of Sam and Alyssa. When will these two finally be on the same page? This is a fast-paced book and hard to part down. I highly recommend it. My rating: 5 Stars.

2022 Re-read: I am re-reading this series with a Goodreads Group and enjoying it all over again. This book is one of my favorites. The multiple storylines are each strong on their own. Together they make a spectacular book with suspense, humor, and hot romance. This book is still 5 Stars!!!

I can see why this made AAR Top 100 and it was a really good read for me as well. I am not going to give it 5 stars, it does get 4.75, because of some issues I had about the book. I loved Stan and Teri as a couple and thought that they had some real heat on paper. I haven’t read the first two books and I am going to go back and remedy that, before I proceed with the rest of the series. Curse you OCD! I won’t go into great details because of course all my friends had already found this great read and already done an awesome job of reviewing it. The slight problems I had with the book were that there were a lot of couples fighting for face time in the book. Max and Gina’s story was so poignant, that I wanted to focus on them. Alyssa and Sam’s romance…man what a tangle that is, but I guess for a story line continuation and a dose of reality, we needed that. Back to Stan and Teri, I just wished that we would have got to see Teri crack Hogan in the nuts just once there at the end, so I could scream Hoorah at the book. Now I have to stop myself from going and grab Max and Gina’s book. I can be patient and let their story unfold.

Once again, the plot gets shoved aside for the sake of the "romances" going on. Once again, I'm left to wonder how any of these people get anything accomplished when they're completely unable to get their heads out of their pants. Once again, the WWII flashbacks feel shoehorned in and completely out of sync with everything else.

Teri and Stan - This was the best of the couples, but Stan goes way overboard trying to be the "guy who fixes things" in a completely condescending way. And Teri's response is to yell at him (right response) and shag him hard (wrong response).

Alyssa and Sam - Amazing that when Sam finally stops acting like an alphadouche and starts acting like a real-live human being, he gets better. Who'da thunk it? Then a subplot from the 1950s gets thrown in at the last minute because of stupid reasons. Alyssa's not much better than Sam though, to be honest.

Helga - I started skipping over most of her stuff and the WWII stuff. I can't help but think these subplots - and the rest of the book - would be much better served to remove them entirely and just put them in their own series.

Gina and Max - Wow, an actual plot! That takes up about 10% of the total book time. *sigh*

I switched to the ebook near the end, and found it went much better when I could just skim/skip the uninteresting parts. It definitely went faster. I just really don't like dual narrators and Lawlor and Ewbanks tend to bring the camp out of the book - hard not to, since it's 75% camp. I'll be avoiding the audios from here on out, and at this point, I think I'm better off skipping around to the ones that I want to read instead of going in order.

Still so, so very good!! This time I listened in audio

Original Review

Sr. Chief Stan Wolchonok, SEAL team 16's own Mr. Fix-It, witnesses Teri Howe (one of the best pilots in the Naval Reserves) being sexually harassed and wonders why she doesn't deck the guy? It turns out, Teri has a problem with assertiveness. So Stan takes it upon himself to work with Teri on assertiveness training. And even though he is madly in love/lust with her himself, he also undertakes to fix her up with a nice young man who can treat her well.

In the meantime, a group of terrorists, hijack a commercial airliner bound for Greece and instead force it to land in Kazbekistan. On the plane is Gina Vitagliano who becomes the one hostage through whom the terrorists communicate.

SEAL team 16 are deployed to rescue the hostages, with Sam Starrett running the op. The FBI sends in Max Baghat and his team, which includes Alyssa Locke, to either negotiate the safe release or stall the terrorists long enough for Sam and his team to rescue.

While in the steaming, hostile country affectionately called The Pit, Stan and Teri connect, Sam and Alyssa write another chapter in their stormy love story, Max and Gina are introduced and we learn a little back history about a WWII holocaust survivor.

This is one of my very favorite of the Troubleshooter series.

Stan/Teri: The main story of Stan and Teri is wonderful. Stan is not alpha dog material like Sam, but he still make a great hero. I love his inner dialogue about his feelings for Teri. Brockmann gives their story a light comic touch with Stan's attempts to set Teri up with the clueless Mike Muldoon while trying to suppress his own feelings for her. But she also tempers it with some gravitas when she allows Teri to open up to Stan about her past and why she has problems asserting herself.

Sam/Alyssa: This made my heart break. I can't deny that Sam and Alyssa's little dance is delicious to watch. The two of them spar words and snipe at each other and it doesn't seem contrived or cliche. This is because Brockmann has very clearly let the reader know that Sam and Alyssa's sniping is only "on" when they are in front of each other. Apart, the two of them are miserable in love. And then, when it looks like we are finally gonna get our happy ending -- BAM! something comes out of left field that makes it all kaput. That least scene with Alyssa all giddy and dressed up for Sam made me so sad. But in a weird way it crystallized my absolute love for Sam Starrett. Is his own macho asshole way, he is a wonderful, honorable man.

The Hijacking: As a main storyline this one can't be beat. We meet Gina for the first time. We delve into the character of Max. This is the nascent period of Brockmann's the second great long running romance arc, Max & Gina. I loved the scenes of the SEAL team as they drill tirelessly to board the plane using Alyssa, Jules and Teri as stand in terrorists. Sam's frustration at having to wait for the go ahead to board is palpable and his artistic and multiple uses of the word 'Fuck' is absolutely Homeric.

The WWII storyline: This was my least favorite of all the WWII storylines that pepper the series. I wasn't really involved in Helga's story very much. But I think that Brockmann did a great job in showing the character's confusion and disorientation as she begins showing the signs of Alzheimer's.

Excellent book. Highly recommended!!

5 stars – Romantic Suspense

The painstakingly drawn out and reluctant romance between spotlight couple Stan and Teri was extremely frustrating, but ultimately satisfying once he finally admitted his rather obvious feelings for her.

The terrorist plane hijacking plot was terrifyingly realistic, especially the utterly horrifying scene of Gina’s beating and rape. It was so painful to read that I actually had to put down the book and take a break from it. I really hope that Gina and Max, despite her tragedy and their age difference, wind up together in a future book.

The WWII flashbacks are a major distraction to the story’s flow in my opinion (just like in the previous two books), and I find myself just skimming through those sections of the book. I’m not really sure what it adds to the story except making it longer than it needs to be and taking away from the main action and characters.

Sam and Alyssa...What to say about their love/hate, on-again/off-again cluster of a relationship that’s been brewing ever since the first book? I love Sam’s character and think Alyssa completely deserves her ‘Ice Bitch’ nickname and reputation. I honestly don’t understand how he could have any sentimental feelings for her whatsoever, let alone love her, after the way she constantly misjudges, mistreats, and berates him, but shockingly enough, he does. Even so, I’ve found myself riveted by them and rooting desperately for their HEA. Then towards the end, when it looks like they have finally reached an understanding and are making honest head way towards starting a real relationship, Brockmann throws out a doozy of a hope/HEA crusher and cliffhanger that’s a major letdown. Now I guess I have to wait until book six for the Sam and Alyssa saga wrap-up.

So, despite the unnecessary and sidetracking WWII storyline and the aggravation I felt with both of the main couples, it’s still a terrific military themed romantic suspense read. 5 stars.

Rereading for group read March 2022 - this time on audio! Loved it all over again!
I loved Over The Edge - great addition to the Troubleshooters series! I'm a huge fan of the many intricately woven plot lines and once again, I found myself fascinated with the unique, flawless way this author weaves detailed backstories into her present day stories. I always feel like I'm sitting at the knee of some master storyteller as the backstories unfold. I enjoy the easy and accurate way this author delivers every detail, both past & present. She weaves needed information right into her story lines as the action unfolds. It's never distracting and never leaves the reader in the dark, rather instead it makes the reader a part of each unfolding scene.

I'm hopeless hooked on all these SEALS and really loved Stan & Teri's story although I wanted to knock Stan over the head a time or two & scream at him to wake up and see what was so obvious to everyone else. Also loved getting more of Sam & Alyssa's story and am anxious for more. This author has a gift for writing the tortured romances . . . ones where the attraction is sizzling & yet real life keeps throwing major obstacles in each couple's path. She's also a master at the love/hate relationships.

Over The Edge is an intense, suspenseful, hypnotic read that delivers a mighty punch . . . one filled with desire, need, anticipation, regret and love. It's a Page Burner! A Must Read! Now resides on my Favorites 2016 Shelf!

Stan and Teri were such a cute couple. I loved Stan from the beginning. It saddened me that he thought he was ugly. In my head I can't picture him as ugly because he was such a cool guy. I enjoyed the bond and the chemistry between Stan and Teri, and how they saw each other deeper than anyone else did. It was interesting how Stan was trying to flee from Teri and his attraction to her, and she was the one chasing him. Out of the Team 16 couples, they are one of my favorites.

The Sam and Alyssa parts will break your heart. I thought I was going to die, the way that things ended between them at the end of this book. I was praying that things would work out. I guess I had to keep reading. :)

Unlike quite a few fans of this series, I loved the WWII storyline in each book. But it's a particular favorite period of mine.

The action is great. That Alyssa can kick some serious butt. And Sam, well, he can do no wrong, sort of. He can, but I love him anyway. One of my personal favorites out of this series.

Reread Jul 2022. A very enjoyable suspense/romance read in Brockmann's trademark style. Fast-paced and dramatic, with believable characters and powerful romance elements. There are several storylines running at once, including a touching backstory set during WW11. Occasionally it's a little disconcerting to jump from one storyline suddenly into another, but overall it all made sense.

IMO this is a series best read in order. Alongside the main romance between Stan and Teri, there are quite a few secondary characters who reappear in some of the other books. You get to know and understand the characters as the series proceeds. The groundwork for some of the future relationships is also laid in earlier books, including this one - e.g. for Sam and Lys as well as Max and Gina.

Reread 3/22/2022 - I rarely reread because I remember, and I remembered every plot point in this book, and it just made me so sad all over again. This book holds its own and delivers a hot romance and a great suspense plot. But it also should tell you that this is an awesome book.

Original Review: The first thing I have to say is: do not read these books out of order. The stories just get better and more intense as the series continues. In my opinion, they are not good stand alone, the stories are so much better when you have the history of the supporting characters from the previous books. The second thing is WOW!! These books just keep getting better and better. I did not see the end to this one and I am blown away.

There are at least four plots going at the same time and it can be a little confusing at times. SEAL team 16 is called to rescue a hijacked 747. All the plot lines spin off this event. Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok and Lieutenant Teri Howe, a heilo piolt, have a relationship that at the first can be described as big brother, little sister. But, neither of them, especially Teri, wants it to stay that way. Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke meet up again and it is still just short of WWIII, except in the bedroom. Helga Shuler, an Israeli diplomat and friend of Stan's deceased mother, who has Alzheimer’s and whose story take us to WWII Denmark. Finally, we have a new couple, Max and Gina. Max is the ace FBI guy and Gina is a student caught up in the hijacked jet.

This is classed as a Contemporary Romance, but that is selling this book way short. It does have the required HEA, but not everyone gets one. The premise of this book could happen. There are countries who hate America and we are so lucky to have people like Senior Chief, Sam, L.T. Alyssa, Max and the others.

Over the Edge
4 Stars

Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok is the "go-to" man for solving any problem that arises with the headstrong SEALS of Team Sixteen. Thus, when he observes Lieutenant Teri Howe, a strong, dedicated and highly skilled naval reserves pilot, in a difficult situation, he does not hesitate to offer his assistance. Unfortunately, Stan's plan takes a troubling turn when he and Teri along with the rest of the team become involved in a hostage crisis involving the hijacking of a jet carrying the daughter of a US Senator.

This is another series that has been languishing on my TBR for several years. However, a group read provided me with the opportunity to continue, and I am glad it did as this is an exciting and entertaining read that lacks the irritating issues from book#2 that led me to put it aside.

Like the first two books, there are several intertwining threads including Teri and Stan's slow-burn romance, Alyssa and Sam's ongoing angst fest, the suspense of the hijacking, and the sad story of Helga Shuler's past as a young Jewish child in Denmark.

Of these, the WWII thread is the most problematic, which is also the case for the two previous books. The knowledge that

In contrast, the threads set in the present are captivating. Teri and Stan are simply adorable both as individuals and as a couple. Their conversations and interactions made me smile. Likewise, the developments in Alyssa and Sam's relationship are excellent - they certainly know how to set fire to the sheets. That said, there are times when Alyssa's prejudices and treatment of Sam become annoying, and the twist at the end is quite troubling.

Finally, the hijacking plot is nail-bitingly intense and had me riveted from the start. Gina Vitagliano is an incredible character, but is completely unnecessary. I have said it before (see my review of Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs) and I'll say it again - there are better methods for building up a strong, intelligent and resourceful heroine without resorting to this trope.

Overall, this is an edge-of-the-seat read and I hope that the next one continues in the same vein.

I was already enjoying this series but this instalment knocked it out of the park. Loved it. Suzanne Brockmann is a master storyteller as she skilfully weaves the threads of three stories together for an awesome reading experience. (Can you tell I liked it, LOL)

Although the pairing of Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok and Helo Pilot Teri Howe was the featured storyline and was great it is the ongoing drama with Lt Roger "Sam" Starrett and FBI sharpshooter Alycia Locke that has got me totally hooked. Disclosure - I think I am a little in love with "Sam" despite his redneck alphaholeness he is such a great hero. I can't wait to read the next book. I feel a binge coming on...

I was willing to keep reading in hopes it would get better but it didn’t. It fizzled - air going out of a balloon.

STORY BRIEF WITH SOME OPINION:
There are about six stories being told. Three of them are romantic relationships. Two of these have sad endings. The main romance has a happy ending.

Teri is a young helicopter pilot who has been sexually harassed at work. She has trouble standing up for herself. Stan is a 39-year-old SEAL who tries to help her. He fixes her up with a nice young man Mike, also a SEAL. Teri wants Stan, not Mike. Stan doesn’t know this and continues to misinterpret Teri‘s actions throughout the story. He is attracted to her but he doesn’t believe he should have a relationship due to his traveling for the job.

Alyssa is a sniper working for the FBI. Sam is a SEAL. Six months ago they had a one night affair. Afterwards she asked him to keep it a secret. Now they are at the same location. They both want each other but believes the other hates them. After they finally have sex, they continue to belive the other doesn’t want them, and they continue being apart.

Helga is an elderly lady with Alzheimer’s. During the book she is remembering the story of her time in 1940s Denmark during the Nazi occupation. Her brother was in love with Annabet. He was Jewish, Annabet was not. Helga can remember the past but has difficulties remembering current activities. A fair amount of time is spent showing Helga taking notes so she can remember the names of people around her and what is going on. The Altzheimer’s part of the story was ok as a side story but didn’t add very much. I suppose it was adding depth to her character, but I felt like something more should have happened with it.

The main suspense plot was terrorists hijacking a plane and taking it to Kazbekistan. They wanted two prisoners released: one in the U.S. and one in Israel. The SEALS and the FBI go to the Kazbekistan to plan a rescue. Helga is there as a representative from Israel. Gina is a 21 year old American passenger on the plane. A senator’s daughter Karen was supposed to be on the plane but lost her ticket and didn’t board the plane. Gina was aware of that. The terrorists wanted to know who among the passengers was Karen. They began killing passengers until Gina stood up and claimed to be Karen. From that point on, the terrorists had Gina do all the talking on the radio expressing their demands, etc. Max was the hostage negotiator on the other side, talking to Gina/Karen.

MORE REVIEWER’S OPINION:
The hostage situation felt like a minor background story. Very little happened regarding that. At the end when the SEALs assaulted the plane to rescue the hostages, it wasn’t shown. It was briefly mentioned. I wonder if the sniper got anyone? If so, was it through glass windows? I wonder how the terrorists responded. I was disappointed that the Israelis learned something about one of the terrorists but they did not tell it to the SEALs. The reason given was “stupid.” The Israelis are smarter than that. Also how did they learn it? The book was unsatisfying from a suspense/thriller point of view. The suspense was mostly in the setting, not in action or events. Although there was one sniper shooting earlier which created some action.

Most of the book was about the two relationships: Teri/Stan and Alyssa/Sam. I was frustrated and angry throughout the book. All the conflicts between these couples were “vague communication and inaccurate assumptions about the others’ feelings.” This was a soap opera, not a story. No matter what one would say or do, the other assumed it had a negative motive. And they would ponder the reasons it was bad. And the things these people said and did? Nothing was true to how they felt. The men wanted the women but said they didn’t. Teri and Stan finally have sex, but afterwards Stan said that was a mistake and it won’t happen again. (He was in love with her why would he say that? It just hurt her.) Alyssa pretends to be drunk so she can have sex with Sam. But immediately afterwards they act like they hate each other and it will never happen again. I was angry. I wanted to throw the book. This is not good story. There was no decent plot. I was so mad that when the main couple finally got together on the last page – I didn’t care. My reaction was oh, it’s over. There was no “good feeling” in this book.

The ending for Alyssa/Sam was terrible. It’s like why was their story even in this book? Where did that come from? The author didn’t know what to write next so she just invented something to break them up. It had a “thrown away” feeling. My reaction – ick.

The Annabet/Hersel and Nazi story in the 1940s was ok as a story but it’s been told before. It was predictable. I don’t know why the author put that in the book. It was sad.

The author starts a relationship between Gina on the plane and Max the hostage negotiator. But it wasn’t developed. It could have been more interesting. Oh, and Gina does something “extremely stupid” which made me mad. Her stupidity caused something awful to happen. Let the terrorists be the bad guys, not stupid females – please?

All of these stories went back and forth interrupting each other which is not a favorite device for me. Some readers need to know that there is one RAPE SCENE in the book. It is referred to, no details are shown.

DATA:
Story length: 395 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: 5. Total number of sex scene pages: 13 (plus one rape scene). Setting: mostly 2001 Kazbekistan with a little San Diego, California and Athens, Greece. Flashback story setting: 1940s Denmark. Copyright: 2001. Genre: military romance with some suspense.

REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK, NOV 2, 2013: 5 STARS
Narrator: Laura Hicks
Length: 14 hours 42 mins

The Story: This installment was one of my favorite Troubleshooters when I read it 10 years ago but Stan and Teri were never memorable. I recall loving this book because of Max and Gina and the hijacking thread. I found it suspenseful, not bogged down in the technical details, which can get convoluted if the author wants to make the rescue sound authentic. Here, Brockmann keeps the focus squarely on the subtle but expected bonding between the victim and the negotiator. Rarely has a relationship, so tenuous, so fragile, so...predictable(?) enthralled me. It made me want so much for it to come to something and I remember that when I closed the paperback so many years ago, I hoped there would be a Max and Gina book. That, to me, would be what romantic fiction is all about - giving me an HEA from a seemingly unlikely, if not impossible, pairing considering the circumstances.

I loved this reread (and audio) because Stan and Teri became real to me. I was attracted to them from the start and that made me wonder why my reaction today is so different from that of ten years ago. This only reinforces my belief that I should reread all the books I didn't care for the first time round! The part where Stan Mr Fix-It Wolchonok tries to hook Teri up with Mike Muldoon was a bit of a farce and I'm not a fan of them. This time, despite a little impatience, it wasn't that bad that I felt the urge to skip them, as I did with the WWII flashbacks.

I skipped every one of those pesky flashbacks. There were several! And I'm so glad I did because at the end of the book, I didn't even see the need for them. They played no significant role in the story as there is no Big Reveal and I still don't know why this woman, Helga, had so many pages. My negative reaction to the flashbacks in this book (really, such a pain in audio to skip!) has cemented my decision not to listen to The Defiant Hero, which also contain flashbacks.

Sam & Alyssa...they were unforgettable from the day I met them all those years ago. Even though I didn't care for one or two of the later Troubleshooters and didn't bother to read some of the later ones, I've always remembered this couple.

Listening to them now just made the heartache more acute and that's saying something since I do not like Laura Hicks and would have far preferred this installment to have been narrated by a man, if not the Lawlor/Ewbank duo. I can't wait to get to Gone Too Far where Sam and Alyssa get their HEA.

The Narrator: I have not enjoyed Laura Hicks narration and so avoid her but this time I couldn't since it's a running series. Thankfully, her voice was good here and it could have been a technical issue in the other books. Perhaps those books and samples I heard weren't as a good production as the Troubleshooters series. This time Hicks' voice had a warmer, rounder quality to it than in the other books. There were a few mistakes, common ones when there is a single narrator as opposed to as male/female duo: Hicks forgot to switch voices for the appropriate character and that can get confusing if it's a long piece of dialogue. It was just one line in this case. I sensed it was incorrect and happened to have the ebook version open and was able to see who really speaking.

Even though she did a good job, I'm still glad Hicks did only one book. The next book, Out of Control, has Norma Lana narrating. I am not familiar with her.

Overall, I am delighted with my decision to listen to the Troubleshooters series and reread the books. Hopefully, this will lead to more interest in MF romantic suspense now that I've exhausted the list of MM romance audiobooks! I have a huge backlist of MF romantic suspense and Brockmann has a new series, Reluctant Heroes coming out in Feb 2014. There's also the Cindy Gerard series that I have yet to read...endless.

I absolutely loved this book! Its my first read with this author and she had me all up in the book, anticipating the outcomes of all these lovely service men and women couples wheew! Who would have known all this action takes place in and off the battle field! My, my, my..like Wildcard said in the book, this mission is like the LOVEBOAT or something hahaha so true.
This book is what I needed to get my READING MOJO back, well thats what I call it..I'm so ready for the next book or at least to continue reading.
My favorite couple was of course STAN THE MAN and TERI BITE MY CHERRY! Thats how I classify these two. Stan is the Senior Chief, the problem solver, the fix it man and he is dayum good at his job! But, when it came to Helo-Pilot Teri Howe, he didn't quite know how to handle their new found relationship. He was trying to help her stand up to men who came on to her, but little did she know he was the one wanting her from the time she came to his house to talk. When Teri went to Stan's house, that was Rule #1 broken and I knew from there, that would not be the last Rule these two would break ( you know what I mean..)I must say my mouth dropped when I thought STAN was going to die, just abaolutely broke my heart. I literally closed my kindle, yelled "NO" in my quiet voice and put my head in my hands. After my moment, I kept reading and was relieved with the outcome! Thats right, this book had me all wrecked up with emotions. So STAN if you are out there, hurry up and send me one of your service men; I'm up for the challenge to serve a service man ha!Love them 2!

Sexy Sam and Lovely Lys..what a love and hate couple. I like those couples that play I hate you but behind closed doors its a whole differnt ball game. Talk about Grand Slam, thats right all the time. These two were so into each other, thinking of one another for 6 months and when reunited they were like two peas in a pod; just lovely. I"m not too happy with their outcome. The ending threw me for a loop, but I was so glad that Sam did the right thing. It showed that he was honorable and tried to do right and man up to his responsibilites. I hope later on Sam and Lys get to reunite. After the mission, he goes to Lys's house and explains to her what has happened with him and a past lover and she is crushed, he is torn both mentally and physically. He drops his cap in her house and she knows he's not coming back for it. I know she will cherish and keep that cap for the eternities or at least until she can see him again. Its nice to hear that service men underneath all that hot, male testosterone, lies men of emotions, feelings and heck we read that they CRY! They cry for their women, they cry because they hurt for others situations, it made my heart swell with emotion! A lovely side to read about with these service men!

The other character I enjoyed was Jules, Lys' partner. If it wasn't for Jules manning up to Sam to tell him that he's being a real douche bag to Lys adn that Lys is really interested in him, well I do't hink they would have gotten along at the end of the book. Thanks Jules for being a true friend.

There were alot of characters and scenarios in this book, but it reminded me of Jill Mansel books. She too has many characters going on in one book. Poor Gina sacrificing herself for the lives of the other 120 people on the plane. That is one tough, brave girl and I hope that her and Max despite their age difference can get together in the series. It appears to me, that alot of the service men are ending up with younger women, but all good in the hood. I aint mad at ya! Annabet adn Hershels love for each other was unstoppable. Hershel loved her with every fiber in his being. He left his family, his wealth to be with Annabet and she loved him even more. TRUE LOVE INDEED!
I hope Muldoon finds someone special for himeself, cuz Teri had her mind set on SENIOR CHIEF.

So that sums up my review of the book. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Thank you S. Brockman for a great read!

Although I have only read 3 of Brockmanns books, this one is so far my favourite. I think the main reason for this was because I really liked the main characters of Stan and Teri and was really cheering them on to get together, where as in the other books I preferred the side stories; in this book I preferred the main couple.

A plane has been hijacked by terrorists and it is up to the FBI and the Troubleshooters to try and get all the hostages back safely.

Stan is the Senior Cheif and the Mr-fix-it on the team. He is by far my fave hero, he was adorable! He thinks he is unattractive and couldn't see why Teri would love him and just thought it was hero worship and so didn't want to take advantage of her. Teri was a really good heroine, she was both tough and vulnarable. Mt favourite part in the book is at the end where she tells Stan that she will give him a few more days and then she will ask him to marry her!

Alyssa and Sams saga also still continues in this book and I was devasted when it didn't conclude how I wanted it to! It was so close...yet so far! So I can't wait to read on to Book 6 where they (better!) get their HEA.

This book like the others also had a WW2 thread going through it, and also a budding romance between a hostage (Gina) and the FBI negiotiater (sp?) Max. I also look forward to seeing how this progresses as they have about 19 year age gap and I think that is definately going to be an obstacle.

This was definitely the best Troubleshooters book so far. Okay, so granted I've only read three, but by far this one had the most adrenaline pumping action and breath stealing romance. AND, I think it has my favorite romance heroine (not including Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser), Gina.

Gina was awesome! What she went through, what she risked by her actions, it was so admirable. I can not WAIT for her book! (Max was pretty damn hot too!)

Stan and Teri were really sweet. I will admit that most of my frustration in this book stemmed from the lack of communication between these two. I mean, really all it would have taken is one honest conversation and they'd have been together in the beginning. BUT, they were still sweet and I still enjoyed their story.

The flashback story was heart breaking, but I think of the three flashback stories so far this was the one I liked the least. Perhaps it's because it wasn't told by Annabet or Hershel, but I just didn't connect with it on the same level.

And Sam and Alyssa, well, let's just say my heart was ripped out and left on my desk. I thought this was going to happen from the beginning of the book and it still didn't prevent me from feeling the pain.

Very good. Very very very good.

So, L.T., Senior Chief, and Nils get their happy ever after and Sam & Lys get's screwed, wtf?!

This series is full of suspense, love, misery...miserable love?! lol jk I love it! I'm only continuing with this the Troubleshooters because I'm hoping Lys and Sam finding their happy ever after...together, with each other, please!!!

Oh and a P.S. to the author, what the heck is with thrashing my Jarheads in your series? Yes, that is starting to get to me, but aside from that, these books are (in Sam's voice) FUCKING GREAT! :)

3.5/5; 4 stars
Quite a few years have gone by since I read this book. This time was in audio format and maybe that accounts for wanting downgrade my rating a bit. The narrators were good but listening to the story really magnified how over the top and unrealistic some of the romance angles were. Really, being inside Stan and Teri’s heads as well as a few others, was just not pleasant at all.
Still, it was a good story but there are others in the series that are better.

I love Suzanne Brockmann. This one is a favorite. The hero is not your standard handsome god. The heroine is very self confident and capable in her job but has issues with men outside of that.

Geez, these books are SO good! I just love the little back stories about WWII and the connections to the present story line. I did NOT know that interesting historical fact about Denmark and how the entire country worked as a whole to keep the Nazis from removing their Danish Jewish citizens. They did not turn their backs and ignore the situation. Fascinating and so courageous. They felt it was their duty to assist, hide and smuggle out their Jewish men, women and children. Just amazing.

Thrilled to see Senior Chief Stan find someone. I just loved him. Teri was perfect for him. Again, another excellent book in this series. Onto the next one!

The hijacked plane plot was the best one I've read so far from the series but Stan kind of ruined it by pushing Teri to be together with Mike. Again, what kept me reading were Alyssa Locke and Sam Starrett.

H-Stan (Senior Cheif)
h-Teri Teri Howe

2H-Sam
2h-Alyssa

2nd story line - Helga (present day & past history), Marte, Annabet, Hershel

Others-Max, Jules, Des, Gina & friends, Helga & Marta's parents, Lt. Paoletti, all the Troubleshooters.

Book 3 in the Troubleshooters series

I really enjoy SB's writing, she simply keeps me intrigued throughout each book. This is a series that, to get the most enjoyment from, must be read in order. I'm reading the series a 2nd time at this point but when I was reading it the first time I didn't realize that and started in the middle of the series. I was so frustrated. This time through I've started at book one. These books always have one happy ending and one or two story lines that are left hanging for another book or are not so happy. I'm letting you know this because if you're a hard core HEA lover you probably won't love these books as much as I do.

Stan & Teri - Stan has admired Teri as a pilot but is forced to notice her as a woman because he wittinesses her being herassed by an officer. Of course, Stan interrupts to help her out and thus begins their story. Stan arranges for Teri to pilot the helo on the Troubleshooters training mission but as you know things don't always turn out as they have been planned.

Sam & Alyssa - have a past. We meet them in book one, follow their steamy and tumultuous relationship into book two. A plane has been highjacked in Kazbeckistan, Sam is leading the SEALs team who have been assigned to storm the plane and Alyssa and her partner are there with the FBI counterterrorism negotiator (Max). Their love/hate relationship continues. They are building a professioal respect for one another throughout the first three books that help them cross the divide to their personal relationship.

Helga, Des, Marte, and Stan - Helga is the envoy from Israel. Des (Desmond) is her "assistant". Helga has been assigned as the Israeli representative to th K-stan highjacking. She has been noticing that her memory is slipping and has begun writing herself copious notes. When she leaves home for K-stan her memory becomes exponentially worse. She starts having flash backs to her childhood in Nazi invaded Denmark when her best friend Marte helps to save Helga and her family from the Nazis. This time in history is always spellbinding but I had never read about the Danish and how they handled the invasion. (I really enjoy how SB weaves these secondary storylines into her books.) Stan is Marte's son and Helga is able to get to know him and tell him about his mother and that time in her life. Stan was able to tell Helga the "rest of the story" so to speak because she wanted to know how Marte and her sister Annabet lived their lives. This was very touching.

All in all these are fun, gripping books that hold my attention and yes teach me something in the process.

Oh my LORD, this book was intense. I can't stop thinking about it.

This is the third book in Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters series & I'm officially addicted. There were the multiple plots & POVs again, but after I decided to skip the historical POV (not that it's not interesting! Just too distracting from the rest of the story) I could hardly put it down.

The main story is about a 747 that is hijacked by terrorists. The reason they chose that plane was because it had a U.S. Senator's daughter, Karen, aboard & they wanted to use her as leverage to make as big of a scene as possible - but Karen's passport was stolen & she was never able to get on the flight. When Gina, a student on the flight, realizes this & understands that unless these men find Karen, they will kill each & every person on the plane.

So, she stands up & says, "I'm Karen."

The brass balls this girl has absolutely inspires me. Even though the rest of the story was good, Gina's journey through her entire ordeal was the meat of it all. I loved how attached Max became, how he decided the government could go fuck themselves & .

The main romance in this one was Stanley Wolchonok (who's name I hate!) & Teri Howe. I really enjoyed Stan stand up for her & teach her how to stand up for herself - especially when she turned it around on him!Stan was a bit too self depreciating for my taste, but I'm glad he finally came around.

I was SO PISSED with how Alyssa & Sam's story was left. I'm sure Brockmann's got it under control, but I can't help but be upset at the time lost between them, JUST when things were getting good & feelings had been admitted. They're just so damn perfect for each other!

Even though I mostly skipped over the historical aspects on this one, I did love Helga, she was adorable. I think Brockmann did a good job of sticking us in the mind of someone who is succumbing to Alzheimer's even if it made me sad for my own grandmother who has already been pulled under.

All in all, a FANTASTIC novel with a gripping story, plenty of adrenaline, sizzling romance, intriguing plots. Can't wait for more of my SEALs!

A new audio version released 9/15/14 narrated by Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank.
Started listening and loving both the story and narration. One of my favorite Brockmann's, it's a delight to have great narrators. Much prefer to the Laura Hicks version (below).

Unabridged audiobook version - review from Speaking of Audiobooks 7/19/09 column:
Narrated by Laura Hicks
Only recently released in MP3 format, this 2001 romantic suspense is one of my most loved Brockmann books. My first impression was the need of a male narrator since there are so many male characters. Many of narrator Laura Hicks’ male voices sounded girlish but I was soon so engrossed by the four story plot that I accepted the voices as portrayed. One complaint – Gina sounded way too New York-ish and knowing she is a reoccurring character in the series with an eventual starring role, it didn’t sit well.
In print this one rates a solid 5 stars
In audio - unfortunately only a 4 (and barely that) but I'll still listen to it again just because I love the story so much.

Buddy read with Wendy F.

4.5 stars...

This book had it all:
*Love
*suspense
*drama
*hot military men and women
*heartbreaking WWII story
*Epic battle

This book was a major improvement over the last two in the series. My mind was literally blown with all the action and back and forth between the characters in this book. These men and women are flawed... to the the point of being so realistic that I found myself with tears in my eyes when one of them was injured or hurting.

Brockmann's ability to weave the past and present was heart wrenching in Over the Edge. This flowing storyline included Alyssa and Sam and our main characters Teri and Stan. The ending was perfect but not for all the characters and I hope we get to read more about Alyssa and Sam along with Max and Gina.

Not sure what happened to Brockmann from book 2 to book 3 but it's working!

I really enjoyed Teri and Stan's story. Becoming friends who are thrown into a rescue mission tests their desires for each other. This was a pretty good page turner. You will al so see Sam and Alyssa in this book and meet some new friends as well.

Sexy, lots of action, great characters with lots of personality. If you read any of the Troubleshooters series you MUST read them all. I high recommend it.
