The Bari Bones

Rate this book
The world knows him as Santa Claus or Father Christmas, but his official name has been Saint Nicholas of Myra for over seventeen hundred years, and someone will kill over one gift he's left behind.

When Alex and Sam take a vacation on board a chartered yacht in the Adriatic, their tranquil escape comes to a grinding halt. In the wrong place at the wrong time, they are drawn into a world of biochemical warfare threatening to destroy countless innocent lives.

What lurks at the center of it all are the remains of a seventeen-hundred-year-old Christian saint whose bones secrete a liquid believed to possess immense healing powers. For centuries the Roman Catholic Church in Italy has kept the elixir sacred; extracted only once a year to heal the sick. However, things go dreadfully wrong, and the revered fluid goes missing.

Now, relying on their unique skills and valor to take on a powerful enemy, Alex and Sam are in a race against time to find the essence and prevent it from landing in the wrong hands. Will they have what is necessary to stop a ruthless enemy before millions of innocent people die?

Join them in another riveting adventure as they travel between China, Greece, and Italy in a quest to save the world!

Tired of all the lovey-dovey Christmas stories yet? How about a Santa thriller?

Here’s the tagline: “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝.”

Got your attention?!

New-to-me author, Urcelia Teixeira whisked me away to the town of Bari (the heel of Italy’s boot) where Santa Claus is buried. It seems that Santa, or Saint Nicholas of Myra, was a devout Christian born in 270 AD and lived to protect children and sailors. In 1087, Baresi sailors stole his bones from Turkey and moved them to their town in southern Italy. Today, Saint Nicolas’ bones (the Bari Bones) rest beneath the Basilica of San Nicola and are regularly visited by Christians the world over.

At this point fact (legend) and fiction part ways and Teixeira crafts a fascinating, 𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙠. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙭𝙞𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧.

This fast-paced action adventure novel with a Christian nuance has been described as ‘Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft with a twist of Bourne.’

“𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡 - 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧, 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝…..𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡.”

Alex and Sam’s honeymoon on the coast of Bari, Northern Italy is interrupted when a priest is killed and a young Greek boy is accused of his murder. In the chaos, it’s discovered that the precious elixir is missing. The honeymooners are up against a powerful force and on a race against time to recover this liquid before it gets into the wrong hands.

I was originally hooked by the legend and the Christmas link, but Teixeira easily pulled me into her world where biochemical warfare threats were imminent, innocent people were wrongfully accused, and two men lost everything as a result of their faith. She balanced the mystery with history and infused it with a healthy dose of laughter. I loved reading about the effervescent Chinese Liberace, Jin Mu, with his glistening gold tooth and his John Wayne draw as much as I enjoyed going down the rabbit hole of investigation surrounding the Bari bones as a result of this fantastic thriller. I appreciated the reminder about being careful with what we let define us and about the importance of having deep faith roots.

“It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

This fast-paced, clean, action-adventure novel with a Christmas link is one you’ll want to investigate. I read it as a standalone despite it being the fifth book in the series. If you are interested, it’s available ON SALE on the author’s website. I had it delivered to my Kindle within minutes. I enjoyed this story so much, that I decided to start the series from the beginning.

Thank you, Urcelia Teixeira, for quick access to this amazing ebook (on sale) through your website store!

Urcelia Texeira has given us another outstanding action-packed thriller. A fast-paced read that grabs you on the first page and is powered by non-stop action and a taut, emotional narrative. Once again Sam and Alex use their unique skills and sharp deductive minds to resolve another baffling mystery. From the first page the author’s vivid and engrossing style propels you from Italy to Greece and China at breakneck speed. Definitely a 5-star effort Urcelia!

What I enjoyed about this book:

• The fierce storm scene in the prologue quickly drew me into the story. I could feel the wind and waves on my face. The author set the scene up perfectly.
• This archaeological mystery with Alex and Sam was fast paced and the author's writing puts you right in the middle of the scenes full of action.
• The plot had twists and turns, and was not predictable.
• This was a clean read and I appreciate that.
• This book can be read as a stand-alone, but Alex's and Sam's personalities are gleaned from their previous adventures and interactions in other books.

I like to read about archeology, history, mystery, and adventure. If you enjoy reading these types of books, you will want to read this Alex Hunt Adventure Thriller.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. My review was voluntarily given and my opinions were my own.

Really enjoyed this book. It has been my favorite of the series so far.
It starts off fast and doesn't stop. Keeps your interest through the whole book with no let up.
In the story Alex and Sam Quinn are on their honeymoon when they get drawn into a mystery surrounding a dead priest and some missing magical elixir. A young boy is considered a suspect and they try to help him. They are on a quest to find the 'manna' and figure out who is behind the murder. The story goes from Italy to Greece to China with the Quinns matching wits with some high tech diabolical killers.
Like how the book started out with an historical event that was then linked to the crime in the present time
Received this book as an ARC from the author for an unbiased opinion and review.

This author's books never cease to amaze me!

Another absolutely riveting story by Urcelia Teixeira. While honeymooning on their yacht off the coast of Bari, Sam and Alex become involved in their next great adventure... discovering where St. Christopher's bones are buried, saving priests and a bunch more. I had no idea they are so well trained with guns! Also, the amount of detailed research which she does to transport the reader to each of the locations in the story is amazing. What an incredible imagination does Urcelia have as well as the ability to write it all down in an intriguing tale. I didn't want to put it down.

Wow what a great story. The fact that it was a continuous action packed story that kept me reading...
Alex and Sam are trying to enjoy their honeymoon but trouble always seems to find them...
This time a priest was murdered and a sacred item is missing...a supposed magical fluid from the bones of a well known person....
Is this liquid actually magical?
Do Alex and Sam solve this mystery? It does take them all over the place...
You can read this story as a stand alone but I highly recommend that you read the first 4.5 books ahead of this one...you won't be disappointed in the least.
Each book in the series is well worth buying

I received this book from the author for an honest and open review...this is it! I cannot say enough about how wonderful it is to read a book that is clean of sex and swearing...

The BARI BONES: An ALEX HUNT Archaeological Thriller (ALEX HUNT Adventure Thrillers Book 5)
by Urcelia Teixeira is yet another terrific archeological thriller from the author. This tells us a bit about the precursor to the legend of Santa Claus. But this in't yet another Christmas story. It is a true action adventure taking the happy couple from their honeymoon cruise on a luxury yacht to violence in Turkey, Greece and eventually China. Can Alex solve the crime of a murdered priest and stolen "relic"? Many twists and turns on this adventure and a bit more violence than in previous books. Very entertaining read with historic details.

I was given an ARC of this book by the author and am voluntarily posting an honest review.

I really enjoyed Bari Bones.  Great story! Alex and Sam’s honeymoon is interrupted by the murder of a priest. A miraculous fluid is stolen from the church at the same time. But there’s no such thing as miracles — is there??
I read a pre-release copy of this book with no strings attached.

I enjoyed this book very much! In fact I have family ties to Bari, Italy. My immigrant maternal grandparents were from that area of Puglia and I visited there for the first time in 2017. The Basilica San Nicola di Bari was the highlight of our trip. My grandmother along with her family attended this church during her childhood and she spoke of it frequently. The bibliography at the end was an excellent historical account of San Nicola.

The BARI BONES. Urcelia Teixeira

Sam and Alex are on there honeymoon on a a rented boat, apparently very luxurious tied up to a mooring in a small Italian fishing village. Suddenly total chaos happens, people are in a panic running in all directions. A priest is lying dead on the steps leading into a church. The church is famous for it has the Skelton or rather bones of Saint Nicholas. He is known to us as Santa Claus. A caring individual who loved children and was always willing to help people in need. His bones are known to secret a liquid which heals sick people. Intrigued by the events taking place, Sam and Alex, not surprisingly investigate, asking questions. Unbeknownst to them a Chinese biochemical company wants the potion and are willing to kill totally innocent people to obtain it. This is an extremely well written fast paced action thriller of nuclear proportions!! An excellent read! Enjoyed immensely!!

I loved this book, I love the new characters that Sam and Alex managed to . pick up along the way. So Sam and Alex have become a permanent couple love it. A simple!e honeymoon side trip sets off the new adventure. Saving a young man's life, solving the murder of an innocent priest, and taking down Chinese terrorists are quite an amazing Honeymoon. As we all know that is a normal day for Sam and Alex. Very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

I don't know how she does it, but Urcellia Teixeira has done it again! This time, in "The Bari Bones", Alex & Sam interrupt their honeymoon to follow danger & intrigue. Sightseeing in the quaint town of Bari, Italy they happen upon the murder of a priest & are soon caught up in everything going on and take it upon themselves to look out for & protect a young boy trying to get a miracle for his mother who is quite ill. Their travels take them throughout the Mediterranean. Bullets galore & a few knives & explosives thrown in for good measure. Sam even dons a borrowed priest's robe in order to get into places he otherwise wouldn't be able to. No spoilers here ... read the book; you won't be disappointed. My only "complaint": the book should have been released on 6 December -- the Feast of St. Nicholas.

A Strange Honeymoon

Sam and Alex rent a fancy yacht for their honeymoon. When they dock at the port of Bari, they are drawn into a strange case, and the fun begins. The characters are realistic and well-described. The story itself is full of suspense as they face repeated attempts to kill them. This is another book to set aside a block of time for, because once you start reading you won't be able to stop. The action travels to China and a large biotech company which is a marvel of modern technology. The ending is uncertain right up to the end.

Adrenaline charged Fast Action Thriller

One of the most exhilarating books I have come across in the Action Adventure genre. What exactly are The Bari Bones? Why so much mayhem over them? Alex Hunt and Sam Quinn are unknowingly caught in the cross fire. Some one is playing a deadly game and killing and maiming innocent people in their quest for power. Power to use the Bari Bones' properties for malevolence. Will Hunt and Quinn be able to thwart them?
I recommend this book for all adventure buffs. I will definitely be reading more of Urcelia's books.

A New Twist On The Story Of Santa. Who would have thought the person based on Santa Claus had left such a legacy? Of course, that's in this story, anyway. Very well written and thought out. Loads of twists and turns. A true page turner! Well worth the read!

Action packed adventure starting on their honeymoon as Alex and Sam find a murdered priest, an unusual relic, an accused child, and new friend. The relic is tied to the original tale of Santa Claus and his origins which is well researched and factual. Urcelia has done it again as she weaves our hero’s actions through Greece and then to China, arrest, and a crazy power hungry woman. I couldn’t put this book down. This is a great addition to the Alex Hunt series. I can’t wait for the next one!

Santa is coming to town…. or rather popping out into Alex’ vacation

This is the fifth Alex Hunt Adventure thriller and the most intricate in the series. Alex Hunt, agoraphobic archeologist, with a propensity to end up in the most strange and extraneous situations, can best be described as the fictional love child of Indiana Jones and - for good measure - Lara Croft with some traits of aunt Alex Rover (Jodie Foster’s character in Nim’s Island).… so highly enjoyable and relatable.

Every Alex Hunt adventure surpasses the previous one in terms of historical value, thrilling action and reading entertainment; it really comes not as a surprise that “The Bari Bones” is in fact the most enjoyable…. yet…(I am sure the next one will top this one… and… and… you got the thrill – pun intended)

This time should have been different, really, as Alex and Sam are just invested in enjoying their vacation in the Adrian See, vast blue oceans, leisure nights, relaxing under the sun and the pleasures of yachting, nothing exciting..… wide miss….
True to nature, they ended up at the wrong time in the wrong place, in the middle of a biochemical warfare that threats to destroy not only uncountable lives but the general status-quo. Thrown in the middle of the action, they come across a secret relic tied to Saint Nicolas the Myra, the real historical figure behind the modern Santa Claus legend.

Fast-paced action and historical data joined in a thrilling tale of power hunger and betrayal and a page-turner until the very last page. Urcelia Teixeira’s writing style is fluid and rapid, yet highly informative. All her books are based in actual historical facts, interwoven fiction and reality into one of the top adventure thriller series of the moment.

A must-read recommendation for lovers of historical adventure (who will much appreciate the additional information provided by the author) as well as fans of page-turner adventure thrillers, with a penchant for intelligent plots.

“The Bari Bones” can perfectly be read as a stand-alone adventure, without any knowledge of the previous books in series whatsoever, and could easily be the starting point into the “Alex Hunter” world, for any new readers 😉

Sam and Alex are honeymooning on a yacht on the coast of Bari, Italy. Nothing is ever boring with these two. Suddenly, chaos breaks out in Bari and the fun begins. There is a priest who has been killed and a innocent young Greek boy is accused of the murder. Bring in Chinese thugs working for a biotech company and the action doesn't stop.

The Cathedral in Bari contains the bones of St. Nicholas of Myra. St. Nicholas is best known as Santa Clause. Once a year the bones of St. Nicholas secretes a liquid that can be used to heal the sick. Sam and Alex have their hands full with this adventure.

I won't say more about the story as I don't want to spoil it.

As a Catholic, I am grateful for the amount of research that Urcelia conducts. Everything that she wrote about St. Nicholas of Myra, his bones, the healing liquid is accurate. Her story contains information that many practicing Catholics wouldn't know. I taught middle school religion for 30 years. When reading a fiction book that includes the Catholic Church, I scrutinize what is told about the Church. Urcelia was dead on target with this story.

Fantastic read, just like all her other books. Non-stop action. Believable and likable characters. Research is accurate. Urcelia has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

That was horrific and gruesome.

Still got some pretty long-winded paragraphs that contribute to loss in interest. Plus, a few funny content, but not necessarily amusing.

p32: "I'm not most Turkish...."

p85: With her Glock pinned firmly against the base of his skull, she wrapped her arm around his neck in a headlock and climbed the stairs with him.
*If she can do that I can believe she can do anything, literally.

p106: Wearing a dirty, white, sleeveless vest, and long black trousers he squinted his small eyes, that practically lay buried between his heavy eyelids and thick undereye bags.

p115: It was only when they jumped off their Segways that they realized the lack of tire grip was because of it being artificial grass.
p116: Having no option but to surrender, Alex and Sam stretched their hands out above their heads while slowly raising their heads, spitting a few blades of grass out as they did so.
*They'd have to bite through artificial grass to do that.

p121: When they reached the very spot where the capsuled elevator had spat them out, there was nothing but a clear steel shaft in its place.
*Gave me the wrong signal.

p158: Apart from the asterisk and the hashtag sign, they couldn’t interpret any of the other ten.

Urcelia Teixeira always manages to discover an interesting setting and compelling artifact in which to set her fast paced story telling. Max and Sam find themselves hunting for a stolen healing agent and a murderer while on their honeymoon! They trade romance and smooching for chasing the bad guys as only they can while being pursued once again by people who want to kill them. This is another face paced thriller mystery in which we get to enjoy Sam and Alex as they work together to solve the crime.

The BARI BONES: An ALEX HUNT Adventure Thriller (Alex Hunt Adventure Thrillers Book 5), my first read from author Urcelia Teixeira. An enjoyable 266-page/5-hour 56-minute suspenseful Christian thriller.” I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and since I own the other four books in the series it will be easy but with The Papua Incident being out of print I’ll have to go looking for it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I am a big fan of this author. She has an imagination that translates well into words. I started this and couldn't put it down. I carried my Kindle from each room of the house to read. Including THAT one room! shh Her stories transverse the world. In search of lost antiquities you never know where you will find them. There is always intrigue, adventure, maybe a bit of violence. I am going back to purchase the ones I haven't read. This is a great series, I highly recommend it.
