Well I wasn't aware of this novella prequel until after I read You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows, which I am not really happy about. I would suggest reading this first so that you will have a better understanding of how Shayna and Lee's relationship began and why there is an 8 year time jump.
Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, college, football, quarterback, tutor, bet, one steamage encounter
Lee is failing Biology and needs a tutor to get his grade up, so he doesn't get benched. Step in the smartest girl in the class, Shayna. Lee takes on a bet to sleep with her from his tool of a teammate. You can probably guess how it'll pan out.
Overall, this was a good start to the series, I just wish I read it first.
It is available for Free on Amazon, so that was a bonus.

Ok, this is promising. Even the plot and writting is choppy (maybe because it is prequel). False Start got my attention. Here I am listening to the audiobook and thought this book/ series have some potential.
Shayna and Lee' story definetely got some potential. I hope tje next book, Miss Rayne fone the story justice.

Pretty typical sports star H and the nerdy-ish tutor h story. Both characters were fine 🤷🏻♀️. There’s nothing super deep or developed here. This is basically just set up for the main book: You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows. This one ends right when the h has found out about the bet. I did appreciate that the two of them talked about it and it wasn’t one of those ghosting situations where the h just disappears after finding out something about the H or she lies about why she’s breaking up with him, etc etc. I felt like the h was a little too harsh but I prefer forgiving hs who can see someone else’s side. Apparently the main book is 8 years later, whelp. Why is he waiting 8 years to get her back? Hopefully that’s addressed. They were barely in a relationship before things imploded, at least they weren’t in love or anything but, yeah, 8 years is a long time. I’m undecided if I’m going to read the next book or not. The author really didn’t give me enough in this one to make me care to read more.

Just a prequel that ends on a cliffhanger.
I’m not sure if it’s my fault that it was in the description and I didn’t see it or the author was misleading but I’m super annoyed that this was a prequel that ended on a cliffhanger. Not only that but the book doesn’t come out until December. It probably would have been a four star for me except for that. I’m not sure I’ll get the full length book when it comes out, I’m not a fan of 8 year time jumps when I’m sure they slept with other people. Disappointed.

A 69-page prequel to Piper Rayne's new Kingsmen Football Stars series that introduces Lee Burrows and Shayna who will get their second chance to make things right in "You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows" that was released on December 27, 2022. Fun-to-read but ends with a cliffhanger. The author posted a note that it's not necessary to read the prequel before beginning the new series, but it's free on Amazon.

False Start is a quick introduction to the start of an upcoming series from the dynamic duo, Piper Rayne! This extended prequel gives readers a brief introduction into Lee and Shayna's past relationship and is the PERFECT lead up into the first full length book in the Kingsmen Football Stars series, You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows! I love a good second chance romance and I cannot wait to see how this couple comes back together, especially after this little glimpse. I just know that Piper Rayne has another fantastic series for their readers, and I cannot FREAKING wait to dive in!

A perfect read by Piper Rayne in my opinion because I get the funny, the romantic and that eagerness of a new beginning that could bring so much to life! Insert heart eyes.

False Start is the prequel to Piper Rayne's new football series. This one is extra short (approx. 65 pages) and it was totally predictable... guy makes (aweful) bet about sleeping with girl, girl doesn't do casual and secretly crushes on guy...guy is enamored with girl also... you see where this is going... But even then... I was sobbing my heart out. Hey, maybe I'm tired, but Lee!!!!! Whyyyyyyy you do this? 😭 I have a feeling I'm going to love Shayna in the first book, in which I'll be diving in 3, 2, 1...

This prequel certainly sets the stage. Lee messed up big time, and he knows it. Being the quarterback of Michigan, he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. The team depends on him. He’s flunking biology and will be ineligible to play if he doesn’t pull his grade up to at least a C… Shayna is asked to tutor him. Like most girls on campus, she adores him, but unlike most girls, she doesn’t want him to know. She doesn’t want to be another ‘groupie’ or a notch on his bedpost. Her love for college football and seeing how good he plays the game draws her to him even more, but she tries to hide her feelings. Little by little, that becomes impossible. He convinces her she’s special to him, not just another ‘statistic’ to brag about. But it all ends when she overhears his teammates talking about losing a bet to Lee… and that bet was about her!

Bahahhaha ok, let me explain the premise and then I will tell you why I’m laughing
He’s a college qb who is failing biology because he’s smart by science is not in his wheelhouse. Then his friends get a quick look see and they make a bet that he won’t be able to eff her and he takes the bet to fix his truck because he doesn’t want to ask his pro hockey playing bro for money. 😒🙄 he doesn’t want his teammate to try to shoot his shot so he tells him that he’ll take he bet to keep h out of the teammates grubby little hands
The reason for the lols? He doesn’t do anything AT ALL to rev up her lower....engines. He’s just so hornny that he’s like “hey gurl. You ready?” And she be all like “uh huh big daddy, just stick it in cuz it’s like....leaking for ya” oh mah Lordy be 👎👀😏😒😒😒

Argumento:
El comienzo de Lee Burrows y yo era la fantasía más grande de las chicas universitarias.
El chico más popular del campus, el mariscal de campo titular, el mismo chico del que siempre me he enamorado, se fija en mí: el introvertido y tranquilo.

Esta es una precuela en la serie Kingsmen Football Stars. Un romance de universidad/deporte/apuesta.
Esta es la historia de cómo Lee y Shayna se conocen y se enamoran en la universidad pero por una apuesta con sus compañeros de equipo la relación termina antes de empezar.
Lee es la estrella del fútbol y eso es todo lo que le importa pero para jugar debe mantener sus notas. Cuando falla en biología le ponen una tutora, Shayla. Ella es una chica tímida e inteligente fanática del fútbol y le gusta Lee. Nunca pensó que él la notaría hasta que le empieza a dar clases.
Esta es la clásica 'hice una apuesta que lo arruinó todo'. Pero esperaba que no fuera tan predecible, que tuviera otro giro.
No sé cómo sentirme en cuanto al romance. Para mí fue más o menos. Me gustaron las clases y que cada vez que se veían se fuera despertando la curiosidad de Lee hasta que ve a Shayla de otra forma. Pero faltó algo más de conexión y sentimientos. La escena de sexo no fue sexy, se sintió en parte incómoda. Y cuando ella descubre la apuesta no estaba el drama que esperaba. No me dolió su ruptura.
Odie la excusa que pone Lee cuando le dice a Shayna la razón por la que no le dijo antes antes sobre la apuesta. Él no encontró la oportunidad!? Pudo decirle la verdad cuando la llevó a su cuarto en la fiesta para dejar el abrigo y antes de eso también pudo hacerlo. Que él pensara que era algo que podía arreglar fácil y lo tomara como un problema menor me cayó mal.
Y su historia continúa en You Had your chance Lee Barrows, un romance con segundas oportunidades dónde seguramente Lee buscará redimirse.

I was looking through spotifys audiobooks and found this as one of the free ones in the Romance audiobooks section. So, I went in basically blind.
Lee is basically football royalty on campus and when he has a D in biology it threatens him being able to play. In comes Shayna top of the class is asked by the teacher to help him study. Once Lee’s friends find out about his new cute tutor his friend makes a bet with him that if he sleeps with her before their tutoring time is up he’ll pay for his car to get fixed and if not then he can go after her, which makes Lee furious so he takes the bet so his friend won’t go after her. Only for when they begin to develope a relationship and she doesn’t know about the bet she hears about it and furious and humiliated.
So first thing is that this is one of the first audiobooks I’ve really listened to and I really didn’t like the female narrators voice, so that started making me not love it straight off the bat. And a ‘trope’ I’m not really a big fan of is the ‘she’s a bet trope’ as it always hits me the wrong way. It was only an hour and a halfish listening to audio so I just decided to finish it but I wasn’t really a big fan.

I had the pleasure of listening to False Start when I listened to You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows for its release back in December. I’m super glad that I got to flow from one to the next with no interruption because the ending to False Start had me all up in arms and waiting would have made me #twichy! LOL
I enjoyed this prequel and while it was predictable and cliché in every way, Shayna and Lee put a smile on my face for almost the entirety of their prequel, until they didn’t … Mainly, and I already mentioned this in my review of You Had Your Chance, Lee Burrows, it was because of the abrupt and OTT way the story came to an end. Weeks later and I still find myself baffled by the choice the author made for the end of False Start *shrug* So, fair warning, the prequel should be read/listened to in order to understand their background in more detail, but it might just make you #twitchy
Joe Arden and Callie Dalton narrated their characters and the secondary characters really well! I enjoyed this story that much more because they brought it to life for me!

He gets a tutor and that is no other than Shayna. She is the nerdy girl who is rather introverted and I could totally relate to her. And when you get to know her better, you see that she also has a fierce side to her.
The two immediately have such an amazing chemistry. While Shayna wants to keep it strictly professional, Lee is all flirty. I really liked to see the start of their relationship and I’m especially intrigued to see how Lee will redeemed himself as he did something bad.
Overall, this is the perfect start to the series and I can’t wait to read the other books. 4,5 stars.

Shayna is sweet but with an inner fire…. She knows her worth and I admired her for it!
Lee has a big heart but his QB status means he rarely has to show it…. Everyone loves the QB!
This is a great quick introduction to this new series and I can’t wait to read ‘You had your chance Lee Burrows’

Cute short and excellent setup for the first book in the Kingsmen Football series…(which I will be picking up because I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers!)
Nerdy girl, football star, a quiet spot in the library…oh, and his jerk friends who bet he can’t score off the field.
Definitely one to check out, and a nice warmup to the main event! I look forward to more.

This prequel delves a little deeper into Lee and Shayna's past, so we know exactly what went down between them in college. It was sweet, honestly, to see that Lee has always been in love with Shayna, and they are MFEO.
I am glad that Lee and Miles got better friends! Wow, the guys they were living with in college are jerks! Brady and Darius and Chase are much better friends than those guys were! I felt really bad for Shayna listening to them talk about about her.

Joe Arden מספר את הספר הזה ב audiobook ומלא זמן רציתי לשמוע ספרים שהוא מקריאי וואו. זה היה שווה את זה יש לו אלוהים. זה הספר הראשון מתוך 4 ואני כל כך רוצה לקוראו את השני הסוף ממש טוב הספר ממש טוב אני יודעת שהשני היה enemies to lovers וכמההה שאני אוהבת אז מתרגשת!!! כי סוף הספר נגמר בזה שהם רבו ואז אמרו שהם נפגשו אחרי 9 שנים והיא שונאת אותו… יותר נכון זה היה היא שונאת אותו והוא אוהב אותה אבל בסדר ממש טוב.

Great start to the series. I read this before the first book in the Kingsmen series, and I'm glad I did as it sets up the relationship between Lee and Shayna's story. Great narration by Joe Arden and Callie Dalton, two of my favorites.
