Ho deciso di scrivere le mie opinioni solamente al termine della lettura dell’intera storia, dunque quello che lèggerete qui sotto non è il mio pensiero limitato a “La regina del nulla”, ma a tutta la trilogia de “Il principe crudele” (NO SPOILER, ovviamente)
Una delle soddisfazioni più grandi, secondo me, per un lettore è quella di iniziare un libro con aspettative bassissime e rimanerne meravigliato. Questo è quello che è successo con “Il principe crudele”.
È una storia di guerra, fisica ed interiore, di crudeltà umana (e non) ma anche di normalità di emozioni, anche se spesso estremizzate tanto da diventare un problema.
Per mettere ordine ai miei pensieri faccio due liste: cosa mi è piaciuto e cosa no.
Cosa mi è piaciuto:
- il prologo, che sin da subito dà uno schiaffo al lettore e lo spinge verso la storia. I termini “schiaffo” e “spinta” rendono bene secondo me;
- i personaggi: Jude e Cardan, due anime dannate che piano piano riescondo a far diventare marmo il loro cuore di pietra;
- le ambientazioni: le fate sono cattive. E ci piace;
- i colpi di scena: quando sembra che la storia stia prendendo una piega, Holly Black sterza repentinamente e ti lascia senza parole;
- l’assenza di moralizzazione forzata: i personaggi cattivi restano tali.
Cosa non mi è piaciuto:
- la frettolosità in alcuni passaggi;
- la quantità infinita di personaggi estremamente secondari che vengono nominati, per poi scomparire;
STOP.
Il Principe Crudele e i suoi personaggi non si possono dimenticare facilmente. Lì si ama o li si odia.

I really loved this series. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're looking for a high fantasy enemies to lovers, you'll probably like this. Note that if it's spice you're looking for, you definitely won't find it here, but what you will get is tonnes of drama and extremely detailed descriptions of the world of the Faerieland. It's refreshing to read a story where the romance is just a subplot, and the politics take centre stage.

Actual Rating: 4.5 stars.
One of the best Young Adult Fantasy series that I have read in a very long time. I devoured it.
Very interesting, very engaging, with complex and entertaining storyline and characters. Not a dull moment. With no predictability here, this series kept me immersed on the story since the very beginning of the first book all the way to the end.
I completely recommend it.
On a personal note, I would have preferred this book as a new adult fantasy series, some adult content here would have been welcome as well as more cohesive due to the maturity of the characters and seriousness of the matters. I would have also liked more time spend on the love story to have a more developed and satisfactory romance.
Those 2 are the only reasons I am not giving this series 5 stars.

Ich muss sagen, am Anfang habe ich mich schwer getan. Ich musste erst richtig reinkommen und da mir der Prolog nicht sonderlich gefiel, war das umso schwerer. Es gibt bessere Einstiege.
Aber dann, - ich weiß auch nicht, - war ich in so einem Bann gefangen und ich konnte einfach nicht aufhören zu lesen. Es ging einfach nicht, immer wenn ich Zeit gehabt hatte, habe ich gelesen und als ich den ersten Band durchgelesen hatte, habe ich mir den zweiten Bestellt und immer so weiter.
Bis die Reihe plötzlich zu Ende war, dann saß ich da und dachte mir; Scheiße, jetzt ist es zu Ende.
Was ich damit sagen will; LEST DIESE REIHE, DENN SIE IST VERDAMMT GUT!

Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di un'altra opera arrivata nelle nostre librerie.
Questo volume unico che fa parte di uno dei nuovi Draghi Oscar comprende:
• Il Principe Crudele
• Il Re Malvagio
• La Regina del Nulla
• Come il Re di Elfhame imparò ad odiare le storie.
Graficamente possiamo dire qualcosa di questa saga? No. È tutto curato così tanto nei minimi dettagli che visivamente è meravigliosa: illustrazioni top, impaginazione pure, dettagli egregi che più egregi non si può... perché? Perché ovviamente dovevano compensare qualcosa, una mancanza che mi fa dire davvero che peccato.
Qui tocchiamo un argomento davvero davvero spinoso poiché io sono molto controcorrente per quanto riguarda questa saga che ha fatto un successo molto più che enorme. Volete sapere perché? Parliamone subito!
Il principio del mio fastidio: un prologo in terza persona e successivamente la storia in prima. V.a.b.b.è.
Il seguito del mio fastidio: Jude, la nostra protagonista, si ritrova da dieci anni a vivere nel mondo magico con le sue sorelle Taryn e Vivi. Vivi appartiene a quel mondo, mentre le due gemelle sono completamente umane.
Fin qua direte: ok e quindi? Andiamo indietro.
Una famigliola felice, un giorno un tizio arriva, incazzato nero, e si scopre essere il marito da cui tua madre è scappata. Questo bellimbusto prende, ammazza tuo padre, ammazza tua madre per onore e vendetta e vabbè, e si vuole riprendere la figlia. Però che fai, tua moglie ha avuto altre due figlie e seppur umane non le prendi con te? Suvvia, sono le sue figlie, tu sei un uomo d'onore. E se le porta via. (Quanto ho riso).
La tragedia: tu, persona normale, a un'età in cui capisci le cose e non sei neonato, cresci con un istinto omicida nei confronti del tipo che ti ha ucciso la famiglia? Si. Di regola si. Jude no. Lo considera, nonostante tutto, all'inizio del libro, un buon padre. Le leggeva le favole sulle ginocchia!
A questo punto del libro ammetto che stavo per lanciarlo per aria.
Andiamo avanti. Mi aspetto che le cose migliorino, non vedo l'ora che di conoscere Cardan e mi ritrovo uno scemo che si comporta come un bambino di tredici anni coi dispetti da scemo e voglio di nuovo lanciare il libro.
Andiamo avanti succedono tante altre cose che portano Jude a una scelta, nel primo volume. La sua enorme intelligenza la portano a pensare: "so che non dovrei farlo" ma a rispondere "ok accetto". Il premio del mongolino d'oro va a Jude! Applausi!
" Certo che vorrei essere come loro. Loro sono belli come spade forgiate da qualche fuoco divino. Loro vivranno in eterno. "
Praticamente avessi letto solo il primo volume, a quest'ora vi avrei detto che per me quest'opera vale una sola stella solo per l'aspetto estetico. Ma sono andata avanti, perché ormai dovevo sapere come andava a finire, e Dio ti ringrazio non vi faccio spoiler ma le cose si sistemano parecchio. Parecchio, non tanto, ma almeno Jude diventa un po' più intelligente, Cardan più apprezzabile, la storia in sé prende un hype niente male e arriva a una fine che mi è piaciuta. In tutto ho preferito l'extra finale dell'intera saga, sono sincera.
In conclusione: è una saga che consiglio? Non lo so. Se prendete questo volume si perché vi costringete ad andare avanti. Se leggete solo a pezzi comprandoli singoli, secondo me non vale la pena e forse letto solo il primo come me non andreste avanti se non aveste già il resto.
Non sarà una saga che ricorderò con amore, non sarà una saga che mi ha lasciato qualcosa, ma di certo mi ha dato da parlare e tutto sommato alla fine non mi è dispiaciuta come credevo invece sarebbe stata catastrofica dati gli inizi.
Ma vabbè, se ha fatto successo sarò io che ho troppe pretese nella vita.

Certo che vorrei essere come loro. Loro sono belli come spade forgiate da qualche fuoco divino. Loro vivranno in eterno.
Folk of the Air è stata una bellissima scoperta e Elfhame mi mancherà tantissimo.
Inizialmente non ci stavo capendo molto e ho trovato la storia un po' lenta, successivamente dopo i vari colpi di scena è diventata più interessante e avvincente.
In generale, però dal primo libro mi aspettavo di meglio.
Il mondo descritto dall'autrice è complesso e particolare ma non viene spiegato nello specifico. Rimane sempre sul generico, approfondendo alcune cose man mano che la storia procede. Questa cosa è sia un bene, in quanto lascia molto spazio all'immaginazione, d'altra parte all'inizio ha rallentato la mia lettura, non capendoci molto.
"Il re malvagio" è il libro che mi è piaciuto di più, dinamico, interessante, coinvolgente. Ci sono diversi colpi di scena e il finale è stato molto inaspettato. Ho fatto fatica a staccarmi dalle pagine e ho iniziato ad apprezzare (ed odiare) di più i personaggi.
Invece il finale della storia("la regina del nulla") l'ho trovato affrettato e un po' scontato. In generale il terzo libro è ricco di colpi di scena e ha una tensione altissima. A parer mio questo finale è un po' "riduttivo". In questo libro ho adorato Cardan, mentre Jude fa un po' di scelte avventate.
Gli ultimi capitoli, invece, li ho trovato un po' inutili, messi solo per "allungare il brodo"
•"Conquistare qualcosa quando nessuno ci guarda è facile. È più difficile difendere la nostra conquista, anche se siamo in netto vantaggio.
È molto più facile conquistare il potere che mantenerlo" •
Parlando della scrittura, invece, inizialmente non mi faceva impazzire, successivamente l'ho trovato adeguata alla storia, nonostante avrei preferito la terza persona. In particolare nel primo libro ho fatto fatica ad accettarla, in quando la trovavo molto stonata all'interno del libro.
I personaggi sono molto interessanti.
Jude dal primo libro fino all'ultimo ha una grandissima crescita e cambia veramente tanto.
Inizialmente mi stava un po' antipatica, successivamente l'ho apprezzata fino ad essere diventata un bellissimo personaggio. Una super girl power, intraprendente e un po' avventata, che non ha paura di mettersi in gioco e adora il rischio. Fa un po' (tante) di scelte idiote ma le si possono concedere.
Cardan è... Cardan. Il particolare e tormentato Cardan.
Anche lui ha una bellissima crescita. Nel primo libro l'ho odiato, com'è giusto che sia, nel secondo ho iniziato a trovarlo carino, nel terzo l'ho amato. Ho aspettato fino all'ultimo per dirlo, ma rientra tra le mie Bookcruh, con il suo modo di fare molto singolare e la sua ironia.
I personaggi secondari sono trattati benissimo e alcuni di loro sono i miei preferiti: La Bomba, Oak e Heater. Per quest'ultima non ho ben capito la scelta finale, ma per il resto ho adorato questi personaggi, che ricoprono ruoli fondamentali nella storia.
ATTENZIONE POSSIBILI SPOILER
Ci sono diverse battaglie, gestite molto bene, e la mia preferita è sicuramente quella tra Madoc e Jude nel terzo libro.
Quella che mi ha deluso di più invece è stata proprio la finale. Troppo troppo veloce.
FINE SPOILER
La novella l'ho trovata veramente bella, sia per le illustrazioni che per la storia in sè, che ci fa vedere diversi lati di Cardan. Questa si merita un + per la scrittura in terza persona.
Per concludere, consiglio questo Fantasy YA. Non è perfetto, ci sono dei difetti, ma è stata comunque una bella lettura.
Se siete dei lettori accaniti di Fantasy questo libro non vi sembrerà nulla di che, ma se vi piacciono gli YA e gli enemies to lovers è perfetto!

Folk of the Air è stata una bellissima scoperta e Elfhame mi mancherà tantissimo.

Ci sono diverse battaglie, gestite molto bene, e la mia preferita è sicuramente quella tra Madoc e Jude nel terzo libro.
Quella che mi ha deluso di più invece è stata proprio la finale. Troppo troppo veloce.

La novella l'ho trovata veramente bella, sia per le illustrazioni che per la storia in sè, che ci fa vedere diversi lati di Cardan. Questa si merita un + per la scrittura in terza persona.
Per concludere, consiglio questo Fantasy YA. Non è perfetto, ci sono dei difetti, ma è stata comunque una bella lettura.
Se siete dei lettori accaniti di Fantasy questo libro non vi sembrerà nulla di che, ma se vi piacciono gli YA e gli enemies to lovers è perfetto!

I've read the whole series one after the other because in my country there's a special edition with every book of the series in it.
And it was intense.
✨The Cruel Prince✨
It's really slow. Very few plot twists. It's pretty clear this first book's purpose was to introduce the main characters of the whole story, which are well described and characterized. I felt it was a really big prologue.
✨The Wicked King✨
It was faster, there were quite a few unexpected plot twists. Since the first book introduced very well the characters, now you know them and you know how they will possibly act and react in every situation.
✨The Queen of Nothing✨

Allora, devo dire che all’inizio ho avuto difficoltà nel leggere le prime pagine del principe crudele perché dovevo ancora entrare nell’ottica del racconto, pieno di ragionamenti e intrighi.
“Il principe crudele”, devo dire, dopo aver letto tutti e tre, è quello che mi ha preso di meno, però che finale! (Non l’avrei mai detto). Oltre tutto il primo libro è sempre quello più difficile, quando poi entri nella dinamica della storia è tutto in discesa.
“Il re malvagio”, per certi versi lo amato, per altri l’ho odiato. Cardan soprattutto. Devo dice che ha scelto dei titoli molto azzeccati Holly Black.
“La regina del nulla” l’ho amato, un capolavoro. E dico in tutto. Credo che sia uno tra i più bei finali che abbia mai letto e mi ha fatto amare sia Jude che Cardan. Come si può dire la verità è di ognuno e ci sono mille stratagemmi per non dirla, ma quando viene a galla può darti delle dolci sorprese.
“Come il re di Enfhame ha imparato ad odiare le storie” mi è sembrata una bella novella piacevole per concludere e approfondire la trilogia che di per sé è già magica.
Il libro contiene anche altri estratti e piccole novelle che ho apprezzato molto.

I read through all of these so fastttt but I loved them so much! And it’s made me enjoy all the edits and cosplays on tik tok so much more ahah 😂. The enemies to lovers is also only a side plot while the main plot point is politics which I normally find more boring but this series was so great at stringing me along and constantly capturing my attention.
I loveeeee Jude and Cardan ahhhhh! It was like the perfect balance of everything and the level of detail was good. It didn’t go in for too long and wasn’t too short either.

Saga che ho già letto e recensito all'incirca un anno fa e rileggerla senza avere errori ortografici o nomi che cambiano comune è stata una bella cosa, valorizzando a pieno la saga.
Ho amato i contenuti inediti che hanno dato il quadro completo dei personaggi e che mi hanno fatto odiare e somatizzare maggiormente con i personaggi di cui trattano.
L'edizione stupenda e curata nei minimi dettagli, una rilettura che per me è stata speciale, facendomi ritornare a casa.

Il tomo(drago) contiene l'intera trilogia, le lettere di Cardan e alcuni racconti extra davvero carini.
Il bello e il brutto: primo, che puoi leggere tutto d'un fiato e immergerti nella storia dall'inizio alla fine senza i tempi d'attesa minimi tra un volume e l'altro(cosa che adoro soprattutto se la storia mi piace); secondo, che è pesante (tutto qui!).
La trama non è complicata ma coinvolgente, siamo nella terra delle fate quindi in un luogo dove le regole sono ben diverse da quelle umane. Jude e Taryn sono umane, sorelle gemelle, portate nel regno delle fate dall'ex marito della loro madre e vengono cresciute come fossero sue figlie.
Jude è la protagonista e la storia viene raccontata dal suo punto di vista assoluto, perciò tutto ciò che vive e subisce, le persone, le comprendiamo dal suo punto di vista, anche se ad un certo punto riusciamo a farci un'idea personale man mano che tutto accade.
Tradimenti, omicidi, battaglie, spionaggio. Odio e disprezzo. Cardan.
Cardan che è l'ultimogenito sfortunato della famiglia reale. Il non amato, l'eccentrico, il capriccioso e dissoluto principe che intreccia la propria sfortunata profezia alla vita di Jude la quale, seppur detesti quel principe arrogante e sfacciato, non può lasciare che subisca l'infausto destino che gli è stato affibbiato.
Il mondo delle fate non è quello che sembra. E' un luogo pericoloso per chi non lo conosce, basta un frutto magico, un incantesimo crudele, un desiderio effimero e tutto è perduto(il controllo del proprio corpo, la sanità mentale e -tristemente- spesso, la vita).
Un nemici-amanti, che ci tiene sulle spine sino alle ultime pagine. Una storia ben strutturata, con tanti personaggi intersecati sapientemente e nessuno è di troppo, tutti fanno parte della storia in maniera coerente.
Mi è piaciuto molto, è un buon fantasy che consiglio anche ai più giovani(alcune scene però sono piuttosto cruente quindi direi dai 16 anni in poi).

È stato il primo fantasy che ho scelto di affrontare dopo 5/6 anni in cui non toccavo un romanzo narrativo. Recensioni positive (estremamente entusiaste, oserei dire) e un mondo ambientato nel folkloristico regno di Elphame, con un Piccolo Popolo descritto in maniera coerente alle leggende? Sembrava assolutamente pane per i miei denti.
E così, in parte, è stato.
Inizialmente ho avuto serie difficoltà a proseguire: la scrittura, in prima persona presente, era così lontana da quanto avessi mai letto prima da farmi annoiare. E poi, la protagonista, Jude, ormai 17enne ai fatti del primo libro, si comportava in maniera esageratamente infantile anche per un'adolescente. Il libro, edizione Mondadori, riportava alcune brutture e scelte di traduzione che mal tolleravo ("vattelappesca", in un romanzo, mi mancava alla lista...). Ma ormai avevo investito i miei 25€ e pareva brutto mollare subito.
Così continuai imperterrita. Dopo qualche capitolo le cose iniziano a movimentarsi, e l'autrice è molto brava nel mettere i colpi di scena (anche esagerandoli un poco) a fine capitolo, dandoti la sensazione di febbrile eccitazione che tutti noi lettori vogliamo provare mentre leggiamo una storia.
Resta un young adult, con una romance (non erotica, la parte sessuale è appena accennata) e interazioni non sempre sviluppate a dovere. Il bullismo subito dalle giovani protagoniste sarebbe stato troppo per qualsiasi ambiente (ma chissà, forse non per Elphame), e quindi mi sono ritrovata più volte a ridere delle scene anziché provare pietà per le protagoniste. Forse da adolescente (fascia 13-17) lo avrei apprezzato di più. Non mi sono veramente affezionata a nessuno dei personaggi mostrati, trovo manchino di spessore che li caratterizzi a dovere. Ma allo stesso tempo, credo di essere ampiamente fuori target.
Bel mondo, belli gli intrighi ed i colpi di scena, ben rese le figure del Piccolo Popolo.
Non il capolavoro assoluto descritto da alcuni fan entusiasti.

Allora so già che sarà molto ma molto difficile spiegare cosa è questo libro per me.
Ma come dire come si possono non amare Jude e Cardan.
Inizialmente pensavo fosse un libro totalmente romance e che in secondo piano ci fosse il fantasy. E invece no!
Quindi direi inizialmente ero anche un po' delusa, ma andando avanti con le pagine l'ho adorato sempre di più. Jude è un mood di vita letteralmente.
Posso dire che questa trilogia è la migliore che io abbia mai letto. E il principe crudele il mio libro preferito, ma dopotutto come posso scegliere solo un libro di una trilogia.
Il fatto che il romance sia in secondo piano e si concentri più sulla politica di Elfhame, mi ha fatto adorare anche di più se possibile questa trilogia.
Io leggo molti romance e devo dire che non mi spiace metterlo da parte ma non totalmente.
Il primo libro ha delle frasi iconiche che ho ritrovato spesso sul booktok e se non mi avessero intasato i per te a questo punto non l'avrei letto. Anche se dopotutto mi sono spoilerata il finale del 2° e del 3° libro. Ma dettagli.
Il secondo devo dire è molto più intrigante in fatto di avvenimenti, ma il primo non si batte. La fine non mi ha fatto molto effetto, non mi ha fatto provare chissà che dramma o tristezza o sorpresa anche se già la sapevo, penso piuttosto che in inglese faccia più effetto.
Il terzo (non che dire su questo) devo dire che non me lo aspettavo quello che ha fatto Cardan, e neanche quello che ha fatto Jude, ma è stati bellissimo avere un lieto fine nel bene e nel male.
E ho adorato la novella Come il re di Elfhame imparò a odiare le storie.
Consiglio moltissimo, ma se vi aspettate molto romance e spicy vi dico già che è praticamente nullo, da 1 a 5 direi 1.5. Qualche bacio qua e là ma nulla di esplicito.

This series is by far one of my favorites. The enemies to lovers and the slow burn really make it a true romance in my eyes.
For me, the death threats from the prince only enhanced my love for him, I felt he was misunderstood and it further confirmed my theory of a fine line between love and hate.
What I think really makes this story great is that the focus it not on the romance. Jude is a heroine of all heroines, she is focused on bettering herself, of improving and proving people wrong. This is what makes the slow burn so tolerable, because it’s not the focus. While you’re busy cheering on the bad ass main character, the romance sort of just happens and it feels really natural.
Unlike stories where they fall in love to fast, you have the realism of it taking time and understanding. But where most stories make it about the romance and frustrate readers half to death waiting for the action, you are too busy on the edge of your seat with Jude and her trials that you are plunged into the fast passed story.
So much happens and there are very few instances where you are ever bored or waiting for the next thing to happen. I think my favorite part about this book was trying to figure stuff out with Jude. Unlike other books, the heroine is very competent and sometimes realizes things before us as the readers do. I am never frustrated with the fact that she is so dumb she hasn’t realized something yet, and always presently surprised with all the twists and turns this story has to offer.
That being said, if I see Taryn or Fox face (he doesn’t deserve a name) in the streets, it’s on site!

So much happens and there are very few instances where you are ever bored or waiting for the next thing to happen. I think my favorite part about this book was trying to figure stuff out with Jude. Unlike other books, the heroine is very competent and sometimes realizes things before us as the readers do. I am never frustrated with the fact that she is so dumb she hasn’t realized something yet, and always presently surprised with all the twists and turns this story has to offer.
That being said, if I see Taryn or Fox face (he doesn’t deserve a name) in the streets, it’s on site!

Por donde podría empezar esta joya de saga 🤔…. La verdad, no lo sé. Esta saga me arrastró a un mundo de magia muy hermoso, con unos personajes muy interesantes y una relación amorosa que, cuando lees el primer libro, no encuentras forma de que pueda ocurrir y ahí está lo que más me encantó.
Jude; es una protagonista ambiciosa, fuerte, arriesgada, inteligente, mentirosa, desconfiada, etc. que me enganchó desde un principio, ya que tiene razones de sobra para ser como es y su determinación a ser alguien en un mundo que no la acepta, es algo que en lo personal me gusta de ella. Cardan; creo que no me daría espacio para decir todo lo que me gustó de este personaje, pero trataré de ser breve 🙈. Cuando lo conocí, lo odié a muerte, ya que era odioso, arrogante, cruel, etc. y eso está muy bien, porque cumple su rol como villano al fin y al cabo, pero lo que amé de él es la evolución que tiene a lo largo de cada libro. En mi opinión lo trabajaron muy bien, sin prisa y eso hace que cada detalle de él sea maravilloso.
A pesar de no tener mucho romance, como imaginé al principio, considero que lo poco que tiene es más que suficiente para llenar mis expectativas. Soy fanática de los Enemies to lovers, pero en algunos libros que he leído siento que el enamoramiento no se da de una forma creíble, en cambio, en esta historia si se puede apreciar como las cosas van llegando.
En fin, 🙈 podría seguir escribiendo más razones por las cuales estoy enamorada de estos libros, pero sería más larga la nota 🤭.

The first time I read (tried to read) this series, I didn't get half way through the first book, but this was mainly because I was reading something else (damn you, ACOTAR). But, after many months, I finally picked up the cruel prince again and read the entire thing.
I have read some of Holly Black's other works (The magisterium series), so I thought I knew what to expect.
Apparently, I didn't.
From the very first chapter to the last, I COULD NOT put this series down for more than an hour. It had me reading until 3:00am for days on end to finish it, and I have since read everything two more times because I was so utterly depressed when I finished it.
First of all, I love the main character, Jude. It's not often I manage to pick up a book where the romance aspect is a side-plot and the real story is about the action and the politics. It was such a RELIEF to find the cruel prince, because it had no spice AT ALL, and I was really sick of reading stories where the ENTIRE PLOT IS ROMANCE. Jude just isn't the type. She is, quite literally, the 'Sharp Tooth' (referencing How The King Of Elfhame Learned To Hate Stories).
Secondly, who can't love Cardan? Yes, he is an arrogant twap, but he is also just... Amazing. I can relate to having a mouth, although I cannot relate to pushing someone into a river and then telling them to grovel (Then again, I don't live in Faerie). He was half the reason I wanted to keep reading until I could barely keep my eyes open and only got three hours of sleep every night.
So, yeah

I am completely besotted with these books/this whole series.
Holly Black writes her stories beautifully, and I'm so glad that she had the imagination, courage, and enough passion to write The Folk of the Air trilogy/series.
This book has a lot of fantasy politics, creatures, mythology, etc., as well as some romance—enemies-to-lovers romance. And it's amazing.
Jude Duarte, the main female character, is such a badass who doesn't stop to get what she wants, fights for a place in her home, and gets stronger with each passing moment of her life.
I'm so proud of her character development, and in all honesty, she's one of the strongest and best female characters in all of the literary world (in my opinion, of course).
Cardan Greenbriar, despite me absolutely despising him in TCP because of how much of an asshole he was to Jude and her twin sister Taryn, is a character I eventually came to love truly.
HIS development was actually AMAZING, especially for a book of this genre and "style."
The way Holly Black wrapped up each book individually AND all together had me in absolute awe. She is such an amazing writer who has such a broad imagination.
Now with The Stolen Heir, it's surprising that Holly can still write an extension/spin-off of such an amazing story that's so loved but still make it its own.
Anyways, my point is this: The Folk of the Air series and Holly Black are amazing, and I love them both.

Ho letto questa saga l'anno scorso, sembra passato più tempo ma non è così.
Non so cosa mi è preso, non ho idea del perché ho deciso di ritornare a Elfhame, so solo che ne sentivo il bisogno.
Avevo la necessità di ritrovare Jude, Cardan e tutti i bizzarri personaggi che hanno popolato i miei sogni.
È stato bello trascorrere quasi una settimana in loro compagnia. Certo avrei potuto leggere altro, tipo tutti i romanzi che stanno li buoni a prendere la polvere sullo scaffale, ma non c'è stato verso...
Rileggendo ho notato tanti dettagli che alla prima lettura mi sono sfuggiti e ho fatto ancora più tesoro di alcune scene.
Jude resta la mia preferita in assoluto.
Lei porta letteralmente sulle spalle la storia ed è cazz**a, libera, testarda, impulsiva e maledettamente coraggiosa.
È il tipo di personaggio che vorrei trovare sempre nei libri che leggo.
Il principe Cardan mi ha dato ai nervi per gran parte del tempo ma poi, pian piano ha scoperto parti del suo cuore, si è lasciato andare ed è diventato parte del mio.

I appreciate that there is an option to review the entire series as a whole, because this series needs to be reviewed as a full piece of work, not book by book. The individual books were actually quite challenging for me. Every time I was asked if I’m enjoying them, I’d respond “I don’t know, but I love the writing”. I loved the world Holly created. I loved the little details that brought so much depth and delight to the world. But I hated Jude. I could not get behind her as the main protagonist. I found her constant need to fight frustrating and off putting. I wanted her to make better choices and trust that everyone was not a threat. That everything was not going to go wrong. It wasn’t until reading HOW THE KING OF ELFAME…that it clicked into place. There’s a line in there where the king says something along the lines of Jude is always trying to prove to everyone that she deserves her place (I’m paraphrasing and trying to avoid spoilers). Those words struck so hard and instantly made Jude, at least in my opinion, so much more relatable. Anyone who grew up in a world of trauma is likely, on some level, operating the same way. Always fighting to prove they deserve what they have. It changed everything about how I perceived this character. I’ve gone from mostly liking the series to thinking it’s brilliant and possibly up there contending as one of my all time favorites.

With a series innocuously named “The Folk of the Air” and a blurb promising a story about a mortal girl taken to be raised in Faerie lands I was expecting some mild fun and frivolity.
Instead I was shocked by the violence and twists that were splayed from its pages from the very first scene.
The appearance of giant riding toads juxtaposed with the blood and gore adds to the spectacle, as much as school squabbles told in the first act of the story in contrast with the remainder of the series which is rife with court drama, power struggles, and an abundance of bloodshed.
It’s an epic adventure of betrayal, vengeance, and a cunning rise to power told in a whimsical fairy tale setting.
I was so engrossed that I finished the trilogy (and its two novellas) in 4 days, which launched my obsession with the series as I scurried to find all the bonus chapters and short stories to read and re-read in tandem with the main plot line, gazing adoringly at character art to get my daily boost of dopamine, all the while telling myself I’ll read a new book from my TBR pile another day (it’s been a month and a half now).
This is perfect if you’re looking for a story with
- Fae fantasy
- Dark whimsy
- Political intrigue
- Slow-burn reluctant pining
- Espionage
- Brilliant plot twists
- And some ass-kicking
(ok maybe a lot of it)

When I say I devoured this series like a famished banshee, I mean it.
It's been months since I bought TCP, and the moment it arrived at my humble abode I started to read it, thinking to myself "I will start today and maybe read a few chapters".
Hours later, already on the next day I sat on my bed holding the book, now closed as I finished it, my only thought was, I need the next one. NOW.
Unfortunately, as a university student, I can't buy all the books I wish to read in one go, so I waited and waited until one of my closest friends handed me the other two (I had to read 'How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories' in a pdf file, I will be buying the whole collection, unfortunately, can't do it just now) so I took my copy of TCP and the other two books with me to my family summer vacation. I re-read TCP, which took me 2/3 days since I was early morning and afternoon on the beach, and the other two I started and finished on the same day, yes I stayed home all day and read, best vacation day by far. TWK in the morning, TQON in the afternoon, physically couldn't put them down, even forgot to eat.
Now I will start with 'The Stolen Heir' which another dear friend of mine let me borrow. I cannot wait to read it in one day and finish it on the same one.

first of all, I LOVE Cardan and Jude, ugh Jude my woman I loved her personality she's a woman who knows what she wants and she was strong, brave and powerful. I just loved her so much, and I really enjoyed the whole series, but as an individual!! the first book "the cruel prince" was a bit confusing and.... I won't say boring but it was slow?? idk all that cloth description really pissed me off haha :D but still, I really really enjoyed this series it's one of my favourites. it's actually what got me to BookTok (yes I'm new). my love Cardan uff I love him SO MUCH, He's all I want. Perfect Perfect Perfect. I really loved his personality he's definitely my type haha.
so yes I definitely do recommend this series and I'm still upset that I didn't get the version where it has all of Cardan's letters. still crying over that. (read it online).

Five stars! Have to say, after reading all three books in this series Jude’s most admirable quality in my opinion, is how she can be a total hypocrite and then just get away with it. In the first book she was mad at Locke for dating Taryn while also saying that Locke and her were just pretending with each other. She was also clearly using Locke to anger Cardan and Nicasia. In the third book she was furious with Cardan for tricking her while in the first book she manipulated him so she had control over him for a year then put him on the throne like an actual puppet. She had him repeatedly apologize for tricking her while meanwhile did she apologize even once (other than in her head)? She exiled Madoc in the third book because he was going to try to control the kingdom from behind the scenes with Oak (exactly what she did with Cardan). Jude hated balekin because he was a power-hungry psychopath which literally just describes her. I love this book and all it’s

Okay I've finally finished the entire series! It is the first series I fully finished and I am surprised I loved it this much. I normally do kot like series and there hadn't been one the interested me enough to keep me engaged for more than one book. But I loved this series. I loved loved loved Cardan, he became my favorite male lead so far from all the books I've read. I just loved his personality. Cardan will forever be in my heart. I love his character development and his growth. Jude was one of the few female characters from a ya book that did not make me cringe. I truly felt for her and I love seeing her story develop and her growth. I love them as a couple and I think the story was pretty great. 4.5 stars for the last book just because there were a few parts that annoyed me. However, the entire series was a 5⭐️ for me becaus i loved Cardan. I loved it.
