Experiment in Terror #10

Came Back Haunted

Rate this book
Dex & Perry are back in an all-new Experiment in Terror novel, by New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle A lot can change in three years. For Perry and Dex Foray, it’s been a step in the right direction, a step toward living a normal life. They’re happily married, they have their own media company, they’ve done what they can to leave their sordid and scary past behind them. But something has changed recently. Perry’s biological clock is ticking. Her sister, Ada, is going down the same path she once did. And the Thin Veil between the living and the dead has weakened, letting an old friend walk back into their lives. Only he may not be who he seems, and he might not be alone. Sometimes the past won’t let you go. And it turns out those three years of peace and happiness for the Forays were just the calm before the storm. This book is not a standalone. It should be read after Dust to Dust #9 and Ghosted #9.5

YAAAY! I am so damn proud of this book, it truly was the best part of my year, and I hope it's a shining light for you too. Dex and Perry welcomed me back like old friends and I hope this insanely sexy, intense, emotional, angsty, thrilling, creepy, scary and disturbing book feels like a safe place to escape, and that you step back into their world like no time has passed at all. I wrote this book for myself, but I am honored to share it with you.

It’s been days since I finished this book and I am still sitting here in awe of this book and this series. I don’t think anything I say will do this book justice, but I am going to try.

Experiment in Terror is one of my all-time favorite series. I have never, ever, found anything else like it. And us fans of the books thought the author was done with the series years ago (and to be fair, she ended it perfectly back then!). We hoped and dreamed for more, but I am being completely honest when I say I truly never thought Halle would write more. Many horrible things came out of 2020, but to me a part of it was blessed because we got Dex and Perry back!!

Came Back Haunted is book ten in the Experiment in Terror series, so if you don’t want spoilers for the other books I recommend you stop reading this review, go buy all the other 9 books + novellas on Amazon, and read them all right now. They are beyond worth it. In this newest book, Dex and Perry have been living close to a normal life since the last book, Dust to Dust. Now married, they are happy working together and own a small business in Seattle. When they are approached by an accountant to enter a house and communicate with his dead wife, they are skeptical. But the money is too good to pass up. And once you open closed doors, it’s hard to get them shut again.

I absolutely loved this book. Ten books in and this series still gets better with every book. I loved being back with Dex and Perry on their adventures again. I felt like I was in step beside them as they got their bearings back and entered the world of ghosts and demons, a world the had avoided. I loved seeing Fat Rabbit, Ada, and even some surprise characters. Reading this book was like meeting up with old friends again and picking up where you left off.

There were some damn scary parts in this book for sure. Including one scene that I don’t want to spoil but I will say I will never see public facilities the same way ever again. Halle also ventured into subjects I was unsure about, including witchcraft. Despite not actually knowing much about witchcraft myself, I thought all of that was really well done in this book and didn’t seem far fetched or even crazy. I’m also verrryyy curious about two witches and their future in particular after this book.

I cannot express how grateful I am that we get the Experiment in Terror world back again, not just with one book but it looks like a bunch more!! It’s a dream come true, a dream I never even dared to hope would happen again. And it came true.

OMG, yes! I cannot overstate how much I loved being back in this world. EIT is an all-time fave series of mine, and being back with Dex and Perry on a brand new adventure was absolutely amazing! Spooky, funny, dramatic, epically romantic and ridiculously steamy, this book is everything that I love about this series. I read it in a day, unable to put it down, and I freaking loved it!

This book is not a standalone. Not only should you have read the entire EIT series, but you also need to read Ada’s book, Veiled, and the EIT novella, Ghosted, which is essentially the prequel for this book (and it’s written in Dex’s POV for the win!). This book picks up immediately where Ghosted left off.

It’s been three years since the events of Ashes to Ashes. Dex and Perry are still together – married, mad for each other, and living out their HEA. When we last saw them in Ghosted, they had been hired to communicate with a ghost, and entering the spooky-as-all-hell house where the ghost resides revealed more than they were expecting. Well, now they’re heading back to finish the job, except the ghost in question has motives of her own, and she’s not alone in that old haunted house. The house is a portal, and the veil between the dead and the living has weakened. Dex and Perry will be faced with terrors old and new, and the chance to save an old friend. But what will they have to risk in order to do it?

“I…I can’t lose you. I won’t. You’re more than my other half, you’re in my blood and in my fucking bones. To lose you is to love my very soul. To lose you is death.”

Like all EIT books, this one is terrifyingly spooky. I made the stupid mistake of reading this book late at night when I was home alone, and I admit, I had to get up and turn lights on. Seriously, creepy stuff. But at the same time, it’s awesome, recapturing the magic of those earlier books, and the absolutely fantastic character dynamics that make these books so amazing.

“We already had sex in a haunted school. Doesn’t that count?”

“If I remember correctly, you came three fucking times, and that was after you said I was crazy for wanting to have sex with you there. See, nothing bad happened.”
I pause and give him a wry look over my shoulder. “We almost
died.”
He adjusts his dick in his pants and walks over to me, full of swagger. “Kiddo, when don’t we almost die?”

And it’s not all horror and fear. There’s a huge focus on Dex and Perry’s relationship as they continue to embrace their wild, soul-crushing love and lust for each other, and they begin to figure out what they want the rest of their lives to look like. The sex is off-the-charts steamy and intense (Perry is a lucky, lucky girl), and the swoon is absolutely beautiful as we see these two so madly and openly in love.

“I know you believe in soulmates.”
“Don’t you?”
“I didn’t until I met you.”

It’s going to take every bit of strength they have to face the coming threat, and it’s not going to be easy. Not only are some pretty significant shifts in their life together, but the ghosty situation is about to impact every aspect of their lives. They will be tested in ways they never have been before, and there were scenes in this book that ripped my heart out. I teared up, and was feeling it all with them. But the pain is worth it to watch these two amazing characters find their way forward through the chaos, and I loved their journey and how it all ended up.

“I think we’re both two very weird and fucked up people who are crazy in love with each other. We have a lot of power, a lot of wild energy, and when we’re together, well…I guess that’s where the magic happens.”

We get to catch up with Dex and Perry’s friends, and I loved seeing them again, and things are happening with Perry’s sister, Ada. I was so intrigued by her storyline, and I’m freaking excited that she’s getting another book. She’s quite the little badass, and the developments for her in this book have me desperate for more of her story. And there’s another reunion which ups the awesome factor, and I’m so excited to see where that particular storyline goes!

I’m so happy that Karina decided to revisit this world. I am an EIT fan for life, and will read anything with Dex and Perry in it. There’s another book coming in March, and I am here for it!

Loved this one so much – 5 stars!

5+ total possession stars!

“If you could only see the way she loves me.
Then maybe you would understand.
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do.
If you could only see how blue
Her eyes can be when she says..
When she says she loves me.”

I am literally speechless and overcome with feels for Derry, this story and the EIT series as a whole. I didn’t know how much I would need these books this year, and then “2020” happened. These books took me to another world, and showed me things I’ve never experienced before in my reading world. Derry, (Dex & Perry) have a love that is written in the history books. They are truly right up there with Jamie and Claire, Alexander and Tatiana, Mac and Jericho..these are some of the great book loves of all time for me.

“The energy inside him yearns for the energy inside me.”

And what an intense energy that was. Total possession—mind, heart, body and soul. There is nothing that they wouldn’t do for each other, and this book proves it.

“Dex. I love you. I love you with all that I have, even when it feels like I have nothing left. It’s all for you, everything.”

My heart is literally aching closing this book, but thank goodness there are more coming. Derry 4ever!

There are 5 stars and then there are 5 FREAKING STARS

I was living a happy semi-normal life (if you can call having 2 boys under the age of five lockdowned at home, normal). I was reading casually and I was reviewing even more casually, leaving a comment here and there, when the mood stroke.

And then, one night, while sleep eluded and I was just scrolling down my feed, a message appeared. I was about to ignore it when a name caught my eye. Karina...Karina Halle. And she signed it Derry forever . And how am I supposed to RESIST??? And here... HELL! I bird just cawed outside and scared me shitless! Damn, Karina. Why does it always has to be about birds??

Sorry... back on track! Where was I? Ah yes... and here I am today looking for gifs and picking highlights and holy hell I freaking missed it all. But most of all, I missed Dex and Perry. And the sheer brilliance that is EIT novels.

DEX! DEX! DEX!

Ghosts, demons, hauntings, witches, this book was everything I expected and so much more. Dex and Perry are back, but once again they have to face their own darkness and fears if they want a chance of surviving. They have to fight their worst enemies. Themselves.

Supernaturally brilliant, darkly awesome, funny, scary, heartbreaking and so damn sexy, Karina Halle pulls no punches. I fell in love all over again. If you haven't read these books go back at the beginning, at Darkhouse and join the EIT team and you won't be disappointed.

Karina Halle made my year when she out of nowhere announced that she was writing a novella and a full-length novel for the Experiment in Terror (EIT) series. I finished reading this amazing series in 2017 and it became one of my all time favorites. I love scary things/stories, so the fact that Karina implemented horror flawlessly into this series made me addicted to it. EIT is a beautiful and original mix of horror, romance, action, paranormal, and humor. It all just works so well together. We got a taste of what to expect in Came Back Haunted in the novella Ghosted (published in the All the Love in the World anthology).

Readers evolve and sometimes end up liking their favorite characters less when they reread them a couple of years later. That was not the case with this series. My love for Dex and Perry was as strong as it had been three years ago. It was amazing to be reunited with them and other characters featuring in this series. Dex and Perry's story didn't feel dragged out in this book and I thought it was a great addition to the series. It was obvious that there was still room for growth for them as individuals and as a couple. This book definitely had a lot of sex scenes, and they were very steamy. I have to admit that I skipped a couple of them because I was anxious to get back to the story. However, I will definitely take my time reading those scenes when I reread this book. The horror/paranormal aspect was phenomenal, and there were a couple of very creepy scenes. There were also a couple of hilarious and emotional moments. I am so happy that Karina decided to write this book, and I really hope we will get more paranormal/horror books from her.

4 ⭐'s

I was definitely excited when I heard there would be more books for Dex and Perry...but also, hesitant. When I first started reading EIT, I was into reading a lot of paranormal books - now? not so much. However, that wasn't stopping me from reading about all the yumminess that is Dex and Perry, I just have to prepare myself not to get too scared (lol).

After a three year long hiatus, Dex and Perry are sorta-kinda getting back into the ghost/demon/whatever world. They've been busy doing somewhat normal stuff and working on themselves. Dex has finally found some medication that has helped him but they aren't sure if maybe it helped him too well.

After someone calls them to talk to a dead person, Dex is all excited and can hardly contain himself. Perry is a bit more layback. She's not sure if it's the best thing for them.

They decide to try it out and who do they come upon? Only a special person from their past. The problem is Dex can't see them. Luckily, he does get to see all the other crazy stuff...and there is A LOT. It didn't help that they went on Halloween of all nights!

*NOTE: The author suggest you read Veiled before reading this book and while I don't think you really need to, it does help understand more about Ada and other characters in her life. I do want to say YOU NEED TO READ IT! OMG...it's sooo good! I'm glad the author suggested it because I'm not sure I would have read it without that and I would have missed out on all the wonderful events and characters in Ada's life!

Okay, back to the story - Dex and Perry go to her family's house for her birthday. Ada's acting weird and Perry has to get some advice from someone.

So, basically the story boils down to some scary ass creatures stalking Perry especially at 3am. Luckily, she has Dex and some others in her corner. And she finally lets them in.

I enjoyed this story but it was way more intense...not just the romance but the scare factor and all the craziness that's in Dex and Perry's life. Before it always felt like they "fell" into weird stuff, now they are actually putting themselves in situations and learning much more about what they can do. (BTW, there was an event with blood that pretty extreme.)

In the Fade, book #11, is up next. It's coming out May 13, 2021.

TOP FAVORITE ALERT!

Amazing! Sexy! Angsty! A must read series for all romance readers!
“Maybe we knew each other in another life.”
“Like a past life?”
“Or a parallel one. All I know is that I have you in this one. I can only hope that all those other versions of myself are just as fucking lucky. They’d be nothing without you, baby.”

The EIT series is an older series that I binged in the last few months and became completely addicted. This book is a new release that continues to follow our couple Dex and Perry as they navigate the supernatural world and their lives as a couple.

Like the others, this book is creepy and gave me the chills but it wasn't overtly scary. Dex and Perry venture into the world of paranormal investigators as they leave the EIT show behind. Haunted houses, ghosts, demons and witches make for another fast paced, high adrenaline, captivating read.

Dex and Perry together ignite so much passion and heat! We're talking OTHERWORDLY sex in the literal sense! Gah! This book has one of the hottest sex scenes and the author takes us to whole new level that left me gaping and to be honest a little awestruck. I didn't think Dex and Perry's sex life could get any better.

The love these two have for each other was so poignant in this book with so many heartfelt and romanctic moments. Declan is seriously an absolute favorite hero for me this year! This guy is arrogantly sexy with swagger galore and hilariously inappropriate. He's completely obsessed with Perry's body and can't get enough of her. Perry is not a small girl and the way he makes her feel like the most beautiful girl in the world absolutely melts my heart. His love for her has no boundaries and he's proven it over and over again that he will sacrifice everything for her.

This series is abolutely phenomenal! The first few books start out as a slow burn romance and every book seems to be better than the next. I don't read scary books but I LOVED these and if you're looking for a sexy, angsty, edgy romance that will give you a little fright, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Creepy, sexy, and intense. This had all the elements I've come to love in the EIT series and two of my all time favorite couples, Dex and Perry! These two will always be iconic to me and hold a special place in my heart. I've never read another couple like them and doubt I ever will. I'm looking forward to more from them and this series. Honestly this make this whole crappy year just a tiny bit better.

„Changes can be harmful. Especially big changes.”

If this review turns out to be a complete gibberish, forgive me because I'm sleep depraved. This story was just so damn addictive that I sat up late at night and couldn't put it down. I didn't expect the horror, sadness and raw emotions this book gave me. After so many parts of Experiment in Terror, I should get used to it, but it's just impossible. Every part of Dex and Perry's story is an unexpected crazy ride that is astounding and exceptional!

Came Back Haunted is a return to our favorite ghost-hunters that shows that despite the passage of time and apparent calm, they are not able to lead an ordinary, boring life. Their willingness to help turned into a whirlwind of scary and creeping situations that in turn threatened their happy life and the future, for which they had many plans. My heart was breaking for Perry and the overwhelming terror that grew more and more day by day. I loved Dex who would sacrifice literally anything to protect his wife. I was fanning myself like crazy during their hot scenes, because they were so passionate that my body was on fire. I was completely stunned when there appeared characters I didn't expect. The twists and turns brought me to my knees. The fear during some scenes made me want to scream bloody-murder and hide under the covers. This book is an endless streak of surprises, emotions and tension that holds in his clutches until the very end!

What I loved the most? The fact that despite the tumultuous life of our characters, their love is intense, deep and unbreakable. They’ve come a long way to get where they are today and their devotion is certainly palpable. Dex and Perry's love is just epic!

Continuation of Dex and Perry’s creepy adventures is a constant action, interwoven with sexiness and humor (Dex, as always, does not disappoint!). This world created by Karina Halle is gripping, suspenseful and so incredibly addicting! Came Back Haunted is a complete page-turner that will blow your mind!

This book was a gift. I mean, I bought it for myself but it felt like Christmas came early. I thought EIT was done, that Dex and Perry got their ending. While I was happy for them I also missed them and their wild energy and this creeptastic world. It was such a treat to get to fully dive back into it all years later. I loved seeing Dex and Perry years into their marriage and peek into Ada with her and her gift maturing, and getting to hang with Big Red and even Fat Rabbit again was just the icing on this devil's food cake. This had everything I treasured about EIT, the thrills and chills, the intense/tumultuous/wild/electrifying relationship between Dex and Perry, all the characters that feel like old friends, and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and side-eyeing shadows the entire way. I am beyond thrilled to see that we have even more to look forward to in the future!

Came Back Haunted is top read of the year for me.

I started reading the EIT series this year after putting it off for years.... I thought the hero was a ghost. That kept me from diving in and reading. I’m so happy I finally took the plunge! This series is now one of my top favorites.

Side note... a friend just messaged while I’m writing my review asking if Dex is ghost! Spoiler alert... he’s not.

But he is one of my top favorite book heroes ever. I feel like the way Karina wrote Dex and Perry makes them feel real...and relatable. They’re flawed from the start and it was amazing to watch their story unfold. When I finished reading Dust to Dust I thought I was done with Derry’s story... then a week later Karina announces Came Back Haunted. I’ve never been more excited about a book announcement in my life.

Came Back Haunted has everything from angst, humor, creepy ghosts and the perfect amount of steamy goodness.

If you are looking for something unique, Something completely different, than I highly recommend you give the series a chance. You won’t be disappointed!

Nope. No. No. This series ended with Dust to Dust six years ago, and this revival was painful.

I hated all of the characters. Including Dex and Perry, my once all-time favorite weirdos. Their relationship is neither happy nor healthy. None of the appearances of the good old gang like Rebecca, Dean, and the stoner dude worked. Jessica, Dex's ex is STILL only referred to as "the one that shall not be named" because, well Dex and Perry are so so soooo mature... Give me a fucking break.

This tenth installment had me frowning and cursing. Halle really needs us to know that Dex and Perry still have sex. Wild monkey sex. And there is sex magic. Literally. And 26-year-old Perry has a baby fever as if she's been dreaming of a family for decades, when not even 3 years ago, it was the last thing on her mind. Dex's is no longer a lovable weirdo. He is a childish pushover, who shows no signs of growing up or growing a pair, but hey, at least he is still super strong and shit.

Ada is still annoying as hell and not a character I will ever care about. Perry's father for some reason now needs to be pulled into the drama, now that her mother is gone. And as always, half of the Palomino's problems could disappear if they just freaking talked to each other. But nope. It's all secrets and silence until shit hits the fan and then Perry runs around cursing everyone.

Besides the butchered characters, this story was just unnecessary. I mean, in Ashes to Ashes, Perry thinks about using their gifts to help people, she wants to do something good with her weird paranormal abilities. Fast forward to now, and she's more interested in producing music videos, thinking about babies and God forbid anyone ever mentions a ghost. Unless 100 grand are involved.

So anyway, for some reason Max is back. Perry could be possessed again but thank God Perry's therapist is also a paranormal guru and has the answers to everything in this shit show. The answer is very simple. Sex magic. Yep, sex magic. All Perry needs to do is have kinky sex with Dex, have some blood involved, and boom, then Dex can possess Perry so no one else can...

I can't even put everything I feel into words. I can only say that I am beyond pissed at this revival. There was no need for it, and if you are going to go back and bring characters back to paper, at least don't assassinate them and create horrible, shallow versions of them. And maybe get a better plot going than this... I will not continue with this series. Seriously. I think I might never be able to re-read the original EIT after this. I cannot recommend this book to anyone who liked EIT with good conscience either.

5 AMAZING DERRY STARS

Karina Halle never fails to disappoint readers and I love that she continued this Dex and Perry's story. This review might have a few spoilers so be warned!

The story continues after Ghosted so I highly suggest reading that novella and Ada's (Perry's sister) book as well before starting this as there will be scenes with her that won't make sense unless you've read her book.

The story takes place 3 years after Dust to Dust and our favorite couple is just going with the flow. They have their own company but they're not rolling in the dough. If you read Ghosted, then you'd know they took in a client but wasn't able to fulfill their end of the bargain. Because of this, they go back out of guilt and a sense of curiosity (mostly in Dex's part) but it was seeing an old friend that really turned this into a mission they needed to complete.

Now, I'm not gonna lie, I did a small happy dance when I read the prologue because it hinted at it but when I actually read THAT SCENE? Oh my lawd, I was so happy, my dog looked at me weird. Now, I've always wondered what happened to him because in Veiled, it mentions something about Jacobs (I won't say more. You have to read Ada's book for that.).

This book literally gave me all the feels. I cried, laughed and got scared. But mostly I just cried and laughed lol.

I'm so happy to hear that there will be another book coming soon and that Ada's second book will be out as well by next year. It's the author's birthday but I feel like it's mine because she just gave me a lot to be happy about! Early Christmas present for all of her EIT fans that's for sure!

I did it I made it! Yey!!
OMG, this book.
What can I tell you about this book without sounding like a fangirling crazy chick.
It was everything and even more.
I love Dex & Perry and in this book they literaly ripped my heart out, stumped all over it and then healed it and gave it back to me.
This book was heartbreaking, healing and so fucking bad-ass
Honestly I was reading this book with the lights on because in the moment they reached the house I was terrified and spooked.
This story was so sexy as hell as well as tender and loving.
I really liked that the pacing wasn't slow but it wasn't fast either. I could literly walk and be present in each moment of the book just living it with the characters .
I don't really think it gets better than this book and honestly I just want them to be happy and to not suffer anymore what can I say?
Dex and Perry's story is so peculiar, so real-life like at the same time that clearly it is so not. They have troubles, they struggle, they fight and it all felt so raw in this book.
Also witches?? Like WTF? That was amazing.
How much have our characters grow not just personally but to accept within the world they were living and their abilities, it was something pretty amazing to witness.

I’m going to try my hardest to put my feelings into words, and just just spew incoherent feels at you guys.

I love this series hard! I can not tell you the last time I obsessively binged a series like this. Came Back Haunted is the perfect addition to an already incredible series. It was so incredible to see where these characters were three years after the events of Dust to Dust.

Dex and Perry living a semi normal life, lunch with friends, managing their production company; Haunted Media. Juggling changes in mental health and meds. Just the everyday, ordinary until the two agree to jump back in the paranormal world and agree to speak to a mans dead wife who is haunting a house. This is when the true Derry magic starts!
Angst. Passion. Kinky fuckery —that I did not see coming and was just pure Derry Perfection. Legit terrifying moments. (do not read this book in a dark candle lit bath tub, like I did 😂 ) Dex and Perry’s love story is so unconventionally beautiful, and so passionate, it’s one of my all time favorite romances, and somehow even better after we survived all that angst of the earlier books! This book was truly a reward for surviving the angst!

(Also I’m literally dying for Ada’s new book!)

But ok I’m going to stop now this is getting long. Just read this series!! trust me!! I know 10 books and 5 novellas might seem like a lot, but they’re so good you’ll fall in love with Dex and Perry and fly through them like it’s nothing!

Hauntingly beautiful romance!!!

Let me start by telling you why I love Dex and Perry so much. They are a very real couple from start to finish. It wasn’t instalove or sexual from the start. There was definitely attraction but it was more about friendship and a soul connecting to another soul. Dex and Perry are one of my all time favorite book couples and they will always hold a special place in my heart. This book shows just how realistic they are and how epic their love and bond is.

“I don’t know how but I keep falling in love with you. “

This book was so perfect for Dex and Perry. They have a love that’s truly haunting, obsessive and unforgettable. This book really shows how much and it’s my favorite book of this amazing series! I was completely captivated from the prologue and it gave me an eerie feeling on so many different parts but it also had me crying from the intense emotions that seriously brought tears to my eyes out of sadness and happiness. I can’t even explain or put into words how much I love these characters and their story.

“My life cannot be complete without you in it, Perry. “

Came Back Haunted has left me speechless and I have the worst book hangover ever.

"At some point you have to find out what matters more. What you want. Or what you fear."

Holy Ginger Balls! Karina Halle is back with #Derry and the Experiment in Terror series and she's back at full force! After quite a break, we are back in Dex and Perry's world and it is filled with humor, steam, and the horror. But at the end of the day, it's all about Dex and Perry and how their relationship has evolved. You would think with a name like 'Experiment in Terror' it's all about the horror, and it IS there, but it's ultimately about the romance. It's about the connection that our characters have and it's off the charts!

"Having sex with you is the closest thing to worship that I know."

Came Back Haunted welcomes us back to Seattle with Dex and Perry. They are happily married and living a so-called 'normal life'. Their connection is obvious and we see that pretty dang clearly. Just know what you experience between them all has a purpose. All the scenes are SO them. #Derry has been through a lot, but they know their love is unbreakable no matter what. So when they decide they can't pass up on an offer to help a man talk to his late wife, they never expected their lives to get turned all sideways. Enter family members, new and past characters and we have ourselves a wild and intense ride.

I don't know how much I can write without giving anything away. Let's just say that while I was reading this story of a very happy and devoted couple, my heart was still pounding. I was laughing one minute with all the best Dex one-liners, then fanning myself because dang...Dex and Perry are a hot married couple. Then I was biting my nails with anxiety and raking my hands through my hair because I was nervous as all get out. And sometimes all in the same dang chapter!

I'm so so happy that Ms Halle brought us back to this world because it is beyond epic. The main characters along with the supporting cast make this book. Along with the setting and all the emotions you go through, this is a book and a series like no other.

When I first decided to take the journey with this mighty series, I wasn't sure about it. I didn't know if it would be my jam and I didn't know if I would want to commit to that many books. That was my biggest draw back. The amount of books. But once you start, you can't stop! Dex and Perry are an addiction that you will want to feed. Their build up is a ride of epic proportions. You get to feel and see a relationship develop while 'ghost' hunting with the best characters out there.

If you've read the previous books in this series, this book is for you. Came Back Haunted is like coming home. A little freaky home, but it's still home ;)
If you want to read just this book as a standalone, I think you could, but you'll be missing out on all the greatness that is Dex and Perry.
If you're scared of committing to a longer series such as this.. trust me, it will not feel that long. You'll want more. You'll want more of the characters and their world.

Came Back Haunted is the book I didn't know I needed. It came at the perfect time and I savored every moment of it. I'm happy to be back in this world and I am happy to see that we will be getting more.

Why is five star the highest rating you can give a book?

This would deserve a 10 star rating if I had my way.

After six years, we learn that Dust to Dust is no longer the end of the EIT series, but that the queen of paranormal romance herself has deemed us worthy enough to deserve a tenth book!

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of Came Back Haunted and believe me I shouted it from rooftops when my kindle library showed me the book sitting there. I immediately jumped in, only to see that there was a disclaimer in the beginning... Karina tells us that in order to fully enjoy this book we should read Veiled, the “standalone” for Ada Palamino, then the novella of Ghosted, told from Dex’s POV that was featured in her anthology holiday collection titled All the Love in the World.

I will say that I did read Veiled when it first came out but for some unknown reason, I only got 80% into it. SOOOO the night I received the Came Back Haunted arc, a Sunday night, I decided to re-read Dust to Dust, then Monday I reread Veiled... Tuesday I read Ghosted... and FINALLY, on Wednesday I was able to start Came Back Haunted, which I devoured! (Food for thought, it is still the same Wednesday in which I started reading CBH that I am reviewing it...)

Came Back Haunted was a necessary tenth book in the EIT series that we never knew we needed! It was full of all the things we love most in our EIT books, but so so soooo much more! I have heard a lot of people say that there is “too much sex” in CBH, which is laughable... because it’s Karina Halle, for one... it’s Dex and Perry, for two... and that is a HUGE part of the plot in CBH, for three.

There was no part of this book that, even though it was written 6 years later, felt distant to the ultimate feeling of the series. This was Perry and Dex at the point in their relationship they are currently in. They love each other eternally and nothing will ever change that!

Throw in a crazy terrifying haunted house, a spirit that just won’t quit, and the possibility of a beloved character making a surprise comeback, and we have the literal gist of CBH... there is too much to unpack in this full length novel. Just do yourself a favor and check out the new installment of Perry and Dex that we never even realized we needed... then praise Karina Halle for answering our prayers!

Have You ever been scared??? Have You ever been obsessed by something You cannot understand???? Came Back Haunted will made You feel EXACTLY. LIKE. THIS!!!!

I just read "The End"... and....My head is a mess. I'm hyperventilating - level max. This book is mind BLOWING- literally -with the biggest (and VERY haunted) L EVER!!!! I feel. possesed by Dex, Perry and every. single. character !

Came Back Haunted and whole EIT series is very different from typical Karina's romances but still it's so good!!! Perry and Dex had complicated history, and in previous books they went thru a lot of things. BUT Love is Love, right?? Their feelings in Came Back Haunted stand strong - they are still my fave Derry duo with all the weirdness, humor and snark... And I can assure every reader - Karina mixed perfectly their love life with everything what is, happening in this book. AND IT'S HAPPENING A LOT!!!! Every paige is loaded in ALL. THE. FEELS and action. This book is truly one and only experience like any other!

I just have one tiny problem 😛 I cannot decide IF I want to scream at Karina, or hug Her the strongest I can. Why??? Because undeniably She wrote a masterpiece, but made me feel so damn scared - I just cannot even, You guys... I'm telling You!!! There were the moments when I wanted to hide under the blanket, and it was mid-freaking-day 😅 when I was reading Came Back Haunted.

One time I wrote that reading EIT series is like watching the scariest (and the best) Hollywood show... WELL I WAS FREAKING WRONG! Came Back Haunted was definitely not just "watching" - IT was like co-starting with Derry duo.... and like all the ghosts and demons marched into my real life.

Karina Halle definitely knows how to write Came Back Haunted is PHENOMENAL !!! One Click when You only can!!!!

* This review does NOT include spoilers*

Pre-review: I cannot wait! Seeing as I rated 8/9 of the other books in the series 5/5 stars, I have high hopes for this one!!

Book 10 of the Experiment in Terror Series! This book did NOT disappoint!

If I could rate this over 5 stars I would!

Even after a six year hiatus, Perry and Dex's story picked up right where it left off. It's like one of those friends that you may not see often, but when you do, it's like nothing changed!

Things I loved:
- I've read a good amount of books in my life and I can't name one that actively includes therapy. I love that KH had Perry seeing a therapist and seeking help for her mental health. I really appreciated that and it made Perry even more 'real' and relatable!
- Derry's dynamic. I didn't think it was possible for Dex and Perry to be even more connected and in love, but this book pushed their limits and truly showed how well they work together. They're sexy, fierce, sarcastic, and real with each other. So many romance books just focus on the love (or sex) and the relationship that KH has crafted with these two shows the good and the bad. They deal with issues, they fight, they make-up...I love them.
- Karina didn't lie when she said that this book was S E X Y. Phew...I may or may not have needed to put the book down a few times and collect myself. Karina is my favorite smut author and this book did not let me down in terms of sexiness.
- Even in the midst of sexy times, this book brought on the scare-factor! Just like the other EIT books, this book was scary! I was seriously creeped out at parts of this book, which is another thing I love about this series. I'm glad that the paranormal aspect was just as strong in book 1o.

Things I "disliked" (I use that term loosely):
- Really, there's nothing I didn't like in this book. It's everything I could have imagined. I would have liked to have had the last chunk been a bit prolonged, but that's just because I like more details and it was a really interesting plot. I think I was so engrossed in what was happening that it just seemed like it all happened so quickly!

Overall, I am so happy how this book turned out! Karina did a phenomenal job (as expected) and I can't wait to see how Dex and Perry's journey continues! Book 11 out in March!!!!

I was over the moon excited when I heard about this book release. It did not disappoint. I loved being back in the EIT world with these characters. Spookiness balanced with heat, heart, and humor. There was also very raw issues tackled in a unique way. Something that I feel most of us can to relate to. This made my top reads of 2020 and I am looking forward to more of the EIT crew.

There are no words worthy of this book. My review will not do this book justice. I’m not a writer and I sometimes don’t know how to express something I love into words. I will try my hardest to portray my love for this series in this review. 🖤

I have been obsessed with this series for a few months and I can’t get enough. I read all the books in this series over two months and while it did consume a lot of my time it was soo freakin worth it. I read through these books as fast as I could, I couldn’t get enough. I couldn’t stop! I devoured Dex and Perry!!! EIT is an amazing series and I’m soo happy I took a chance on these books.

Wow! So many feels with this book!!! I could read about Dex and Perry all day long!!! 🖤

Came Back Haunted is the 10th book in this series.
THIS BOOK IS FIRE! I’m so obsessed with Dex and Perry!! The connection between them is soo amazing. It’s so freakin good! Dex and Perry are Relationship Goals!!! I love how in this book everything comes full circle. I love their love, their dynamic, the connection between them. I swear this book is pure fire with some spookiness thrown in. It’s an adrenaline junkies paradise! Came Back Haunted was addicting and captivating until the end. 🔥🔥I love Dex and he is my absolutely favorite book boyfriend 🖤

Came Back Haunted was my absolutely favorite book in the series!!

Each book in this series gets better and better. 🖤

“Why does it feel like I just met you? And when I first met you, why did it feel like I’d known you my whole life?”

“Or a parallel one. All I know is that I have you in this one. I can only hope that all those other versions of myself are just as fucking lucky. They’d be nothing without you, baby.”

“You’re so fucking tight right now, so fucking tight. I think I’m going to lose my goddamn mind inside you.”

“Til death do us part,” I manage to say, shaking. “No, baby, that vow never applied to us,” he says softly. “We know better than that.”

He’s staring at me with so much intensity I feel stripped and raw and acutely vulnerable. My eyes flutter closed, but he yanks back at my hair until they’re open again. “Look at me, look at me, look at me,” he murmurs, breath catching, eyes wild. I stare up at him, feeling the connection between us electrify, burning like the sun, our souls on fire. “I want to give you everything, Perry,” he whispers to me, pinning me in place with his gaze. “I want to give you a baby, give you every piece of me, give you the whole fucking world.”

This only gets deeper for us, his thought sinks into my head. Are you ready to go deeper?

“I can’t. Because if something comes up again, I will always choose you first. You’re my wife, Perry. You’re my life. My everything. There will never be a point where you’re not what matters most.”

4.5 Stars. Holy crapple. I loved this. Dex and Perry’s connection, the scary moments, the emotions, ... god I missed them. Review to come.

Not to be dramatic, but 2020 has been one hell of a year. So, when Karina Halle announced we were getting another story for one of my favorite series, I was beyond geeked. It was like a bright light in this 2020 storm. Came Back Haunted, was a captivating novel that was a mix of creepy paranormal suspense, sexy moments, and it showcased the amazing connection that Dex and Perry share. This book was like catching up with old friends and I did not realize just how much I missed them.

Came Back Haunted pulls us right back into the action. The book starts up three years after the events of Dust to Dust and it picks up where the new Ghosted novella ends. Life is good for Dex and Perry and their relationship is strong as ever. They are working on new content for their production company and they even came into a little money. Both Dex and Perry are working on their mental and emotional health. It was good to see them in a good place emotionally. Life is truly good for them, but there is one thing that they would love to do and that is starting a family. But, before they can work on that, they need to deal with the house they were asked to investigate and the ghost that now wants something from Perry.

I loved this story so much. There was steady action that kept me turning to the pages. Reading this book in the late-night hours was not the best idea. Some of the scary moments seemed so vivid that it had me scared half to death.

I could go on and on about what I loved but I will just say that it is a must-read for any EIT fan. I forgot how easy it is to become wrapped up in their world. There were scenes that dealt with love and loss and Karina made the moments seem so relatable. I loved the dynamic Dex and Perry share. They love each other unconditionally and it comes across vividly from the pages. It is more than just ying and yang, there is a fire that those two have for one another. And, whew…. they had some of the hottest moments together. What I loved the most about them was that there was so much personal growth as individuals and as a couple.

This is one of my favorite and it is so good to have them back. I was happy with how Dust to Dust ended, but I will always want more of Experiment In Terror. And can I just say, Perry’s sister Ada is a bada$$! She was amazing in this book and I cannot wait to see more of her story. I enjoyed how this story ended but it left me curious for more. I'm so happy to have back my EIT world.

This book was a reading highlight of 2020 for me! I can’t believe how amazing it felt to be back with Dex and Perry after so many years 😍

There’s enough mystery and horror to scare the shit out of you. There’s so much love and romance that makes your heart soar. There’s a ton of laughter and inappropriate behaviour from Dex. There’s tension and angst and fear. Came Back Haunted has it all!

‘My heart feels like it’s blooming. “Why does it feel like I just met you? And when I first met you, why did it feel like I’d known you my whole life?”
His mouth curves into a warm smile. “I know you believe in soulmates.”

***

‘I automatically look up to the top of the stall, just in time to see a long white arm reaching over the top and the tip of a black head rising, about to pull itself over. I scream.’

***

“My life cannot be complete without you in it, Perry.” He swallows thickly, another tear running down his face, which causes the tears to run down mine. “I’m sorry,” he whispers. “I am so, so sorry but I will not risk you in this.”

The storyline with Samantha and the house was so scary and brilliant.
Seeing Max and Ada again was amazing and I now can’t wait to read Ada’s spin-off story 😍

I just loved everything about this book. It felt like coming home 💗
Book 11 is already pre-ordered and I’m so excited to see what’s in store for Dex and Perry next.
