Phenomenal Fate #1

Reborn Yesterday

Rate this book

A timeless love story with bite.

It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the exceptionally handsome—and unfortunately deceased—young man on her embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her life forever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.

Humans aren't supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It's kind of a major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.

That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny's mind clean, she reveals a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

Reborn Yesterday is a standalone paranormal romantic comedy with a happily ever after.

A brand new sub-genre to Tessa, that has once again not disappointed but has brought tears and angst to a wonderfully written paranormal romance story...

Will you all be truly surprised if I ever write a negative review for any of Tessa's books? Nope, because that day won't be happening any time soon! Tessa has surprised all her readers when she announced that she would be releasing a paranormal romance. I remember when she first told me when we were sitting down at a pub for lunch during a book signing in New York City, hesitant to release or even announce it. But here we are now, a book in which will turn your blood pumping wanting more of now only Jonas and Ginny, but grasping for the story of Elias and Tucker... Fair warning: the mountain man vampire named Tucker... who is this delicious big teddy bear that has a heart filled warmth and tenderness in which drew me in right away wanting more of him... No joke...

Okay but let's talk about Jonas and Ginny now. These two, my gosh... the world has separated them, but has also brought their souls together as one when the time was right. Ginny is this interesting character in which Tessa has always had such a wonderful way to describe these out of the blue characters that she knows how to write. And Ginny is one of them, one of those characters that has such a quirky job, has such a different personality, and has a way to one hundred percent draw you in for sure within the story plot. And then you have Jonas, this complex, powerful vampire in which these two meet under such underwhelming circumstances. Circumstances in which one would not expect for two lovers with such strong passion to ever meet. But here we are, Tessa bringing such a ferocious characters to life, while introducing the power true soulmates.

"I made your heart beat... mate..."

Forever will their love shine through the darkness, forever will their strong passion arouse, forever will they be a couple in which many will truly fall in love with. And Tessa? SHE IS THE QUEEN OF EVERYTHING! She can write a story about the growth of rise in Japan, and I am sure I will still fall in love with it. You can expect so much more going from this series... and once again... TUCKER. IS. MINE! xoxo

I've been thinking on my rating for this book for weeks. And now as I'm posting my review, I'm still torn. Did I like it? Kind of.

Here's the thing, guys. I love and I mean LOVE all things Tessa Bailey. When I see a new Tessa book, I don't even bother to read the blurb. I know I'll be reading it. And when I saw that she's writing in a new genre for her? I was ALL over it. But here's another thing. PNR is my first love. It was THE genre that got me into romance. So to say that I'm picky when it comes to it would be a mild understatement. Perhaps that's what played a big role in my feelings for this story? What I'm saying here is take my review with a grain of salt. Many readers really loved this one and clearly I'm the anomaly.

So what worked for me? The characters. They were adorable. I love me a quirky heroine and Ginny was adorkably quirky. She's a mortician with a goofball personality that enjoys making clothes on the side. It was impossible not to bond with her immediately. As much as I also wanted to love Jonas, I sort of waffled on two sides. A part of me loved his edgy and somewhat tortured side. Another part of me got frustrated by his purple prose-y side. The man is a dirty talking anomaly. He sounded like he belonged in a Victorian novel rather than a modern age PNR. I suppose he was too sweet for me in parts. God, that hurts to say. Don't judge me. But he was.

The other thing is that the story itself felt campy. The world was difficult to fully wrap my mind around. The characters got a bit confusing. It was all mostly very...underwhelming. It just didn't grab me. It took me almost a week to finish because I had to push myself to keep reading in the hopes that it would pick up soon, but it never did. The pacing was simply too slow.

I loved the idea of the series and the concept of the story. Unfortunately it just lacked something to truly grab me and connect me to the story. It did grab me enough to want to read the next book in the series. The set-up sounds delicious. Unfortunately no matter how much you love a certain author, you simply can't love all of their books. This was that one for me. I still adore Tessa and can't wait for the next one in this series.

4 Death Girl Stars ⭐

Reborn Yesterday was the perfect change of pace I didn't know I needed. With Tessa Bailey's signature dirty talking alphas and quirky heroines, this book had an amusing twist on the paranormal trope. Bought on a whim, I am so pleased that I did.

Our darling Ginny was a mess in the best possible way. A mortician by night and a budding seamstress by day, friends and companionship are almost non existent. When you start talking to dead people, well actually dead bodies, any distraction should be a good one, surely??

Vampire Jonas finds himself in the process of being embalmed in Ginny's funeral parlour after a distasteful prank. Things get a whole lot more interesting when he opens his eyes to find a beautiful girl not terrified of him in the slightest. In fact she's intrigued and possibly the most refreshing and accommodating person he's met in decades...

"Do you often give rides to men you don’t have the slightest knowledge about?"

"Yes, but they’re usually dead. It’s kind of a given that they’ll accept."

Bemusement stole his irritation. "Who are you?"

"You could find out," she whispered.

As you would expect with a paranormal/vampire romance, there are politics and issues caused by a higher order and all the backlash that would follow. And of course a fated mating that is life altering.

"She bore the invisible mark of this vampire on her soul. This. Being together. It was supposed to be. Being without him wasn’t an option at all. It was taking a machete to the eternal ribbon of fate."

The difference with this story is certainly our character Ginny who stole the limelight. This girl was a firecracker and unintentionally so. She was sweet, kooky and lovable. Honourable mentions to the side cast of vampires and slayer definitely worthy of their own followup stories. 🖤

Vampire romances have been around in their droves for years, it’s no secret I love them and Tessa Bailey has taken it and put her own stamp right on it.

description Watching you two is better than pretending to be a lost virgin to bait vampires.”

In true Bailey-style this hot and steamy, paranormal rom-com does indeed contain a man with a mouth on him, but becomes so much more after mortician Ginny finds her latest corpse suddenly very much alive on her embalming table. The sparks between her and Jonas fly—physical, spiritual, emotional, you name it, they have it going on—and whilst steadfast in his stance that danger is lurking around the corner and nothing can happen between her mortal and his very much immortal self, the heart, beating or otherwise, wants what it wants.

description With this kiss, I willingly damn myself to a lifetime of suffering.”

I didn’t really want to make comparisons to a well known vampire franchise but I can’t not because Ginny was everything Bella wasn’t and I say that as a compliment. She has an endearing innocence but is also a spitfire with a knack of being able to handle Jonas’ more overbearing moments with spirit and gusto. And Jonas, well what’s not to love about him, he’s dark, brooding, complex and as smitten as a kitten.

description Give my heart a reason to keep beating. Please.”

With fantastic secondary characters —slayer Roksana, scarred, mysterious Elias and Tucker who in all his Goliath-proportioned glory created much of the humour—pretty much every element of Reborn Yesterday worked for me right from the gorgeous cover to the last page. This is one book you won’t regret sinking your teeth into and I’m looking forward to more.

I wanna do a review for this as I loved it and I love Tessa Bailey. But I'm feeling very drained and rundown at the moment so I'm gonna try doing it later. I enjoyed reading it and couldn't put it down all day and now I want to re-read it. The romance felt really transcendent to me. I cannot wait to read the next book! Tessa Bailey toned down the dirty talk a bit in this one due to the nature of the two protagonists. I loved it anyway though as it suited the overall tone of the book. Still I hope it's a bit more revved up in the next one as no one can do dirty talk like Tessa Bailey.

Never have I ever skimmed that much in a book by an author I used to love. It feels like a new low.

Ginny was this perfect 25 year old virgin who never tried a beer in her life, designed dresses for fun, and watched old movies; and yet appeared to be the saddest creature with zero personality, who thought people were her friends after spending three days with them and behaved like a 17 year old in most situations.
PS. Thinking out loud is not endearing, Ginny.

Jonas, a vampire, was born around 90 years ago to factory workers (or something), yet he was trying to speak as some upper class wannabe blue blood heir, dropped on Earth from another planet. He sounded pretentious and absurd at times. This alone: "owning property together is a way humans express commitment to each other" made me roll my eyes hard. There was more, but I'm too tired to care.

There was no depth to any of the characters, main or secondary, they seemed like caricatures of themselves, trying too hard to be something more.

Now about the genre.
I'd guess authors read stuff by other authors of new to them genres before they try getting into those themselves, right? If, for example, I'd want to write a paranormal story about vampires (and slayers), I'd want to know what else were out there, right? Because even though Buffy is a classic and Twilight is... what-the-heck-ever it is, a lot has changed since then!
Well, this author hasn't bothered.

The jokes felt flat and forced; the drama blew completely over the top (all those feelings, eternity, fate in under a week); the twists at the end were quite unimaginative...

All in all, it was sad.

This is reading too much like a YA novel for me. What could have been an interesting character - a 25 year old woman who owns her own funeral/mortuary business, is instead watered down. She falls into insta-lust, has a quirky 'I speak my thoughts outloud sometimes, oops!' personality, and seemingly is unable to have any meaningful relationships in her life. Ugh. If the character was 17 I could deal with these things, but a 25 year old? No. Pass.

Twilight meets Pushing Daisies with an extra dose of edge.

It's been a while since I've read a fun take on paranormal/vampire romance. Tessa Bailey delivers a great story that will keep you entertained from page 1. Ginny Lynn works at a funeral home, known as death girl in her community, she has difficulty in making friends and feels like there's something missing in her life. That's until one handsome man arrives at her funeral parlor. He's the most gorgeous man she's ever seen, it's too bad that he's dead. Or is he?

Jonas is absolutely enchanting. After his weird meet-cute with Ginny, he is supposed to erase her memories and walk away. But something keeps nagging him and making it difficult for them to be separated.

Reborn Again is hilarious, Tessa Bailey's easy writing jumps from clever joke to clever joke and it takes no time for you to be completely in love with these characters and their world. Also, if you read anything by her before you know that she is the queen of sexy scenes. And Reborn Again is no exception, this book goes there and it's hot.

However, I do wish we could have more answers about this new world she introduced to us. Conflicts resolved too quickly and we get a glimpse of the rules, but things are never fully formed. We get introduced to a cast of very interesting characters, but their story only orbits around the main couple and I just think there was so much potential wasted. I think the romance was great, but plotwise I wanted more.

Reborn Yesterday is the first book in the Phenomenal Fate Series. Being a fan of Tessa Bailey and Paranormal Romance of course this was one read I could not help but dive into. Ginny Lynn is a mortician running her deceased father's funeral home. After losing everything, the only thing Ginny has is her love for creating dresses and her ability to be comfortable and calm working with the dead. When Jonas Cantrell inadvertently ends up in her morgue, Ginny is completely enamored by him. Jonas is actually not dead but in fact, he is a vampire. After spending a glorious night together exploring Coney Island, Jonas is determined to wipe Ginny's memory. However, when the bond between the two becomes so much more than one night of bliss, Jonas fights hard to do what he knows is right.

"I have need of you and no one else."
Told in Ginny's POV, Reborn Yesterday is a romantic paranormal read with action, suspense, and magic. As always, Ms. Bailey presents a complex plot with endearing characters and smoking hot steam. Ginny and Jonas established a very special bond from their first interaction and I felt the connection was authentic and unique at the same time. In addition to the main characters, the secondary characters enhance the plot greatly and I am dying to get more of these characters!
"Fate had selected them as mates."
Overall, Reborn Yesterday is an excellent start to what promises to be another stunning series from Tessa Bailey. This new series will appeal to paranormal romance fans who enjoy a tender story with passion and action! The second book in the Phenomenal Fate Series This Time Tomorrow is releasing soon! Elias and Roksana are next and I cannot wait for more!

I didn't see this one coming...

Reading romance is one of my favourite things to do. It's even more of a pleasure when I get surprised by what I'm reading. This story was not at all what I was expecting. Tessa Bailey has written an original story filled with love, humour, passion and strength. The characters were a joy to meet and I definitely want more from this world I was introduced to.

I absolutely loved Ginny and Jonas together and thought their love story played out perfectly. Yes, I thought it moved a little too slowly in the beginning. By the stories conclusion, I realised it needed to be tested to get to the right ending.

The cover was eye-catching, the storyline original, the characters lovable and the connection between Ginny and Jonas, jumped off the pages. For the most part, I really enjoyed Reborn Yesterday. I admit that Jonas could be a little thoughtless with his decision making but Ginny made sure to stand her ground. I can't wait for Roksanna and Elias' story and would love Tucker to get his own happy ever after.

If you're looking for something a little different, I highly recommend giving Reborn Yesterday a try.

3.5-4 stars!! I loved Jonas and Ginny - if you love Tessa’s contemporaries, you will more than likely fall in love with these two. We’ve got an alpha, obsessed hero and a quirky, adorable heroine (who’s a freaking mortician!), both of which Tessa can write fabulously. It’s just that this time, one’s a vampire and they both happen to be fated mates. But as much as I adored these characters, I wanted the vampire world to be fleshed out a little bit more because I see so much potential in it! Still, I really hope this won’t be TB’s only PNR and I am very much hoping we get a book for Elias and Roksana.

"My sanity, my soul, my existence, depend on you being mine." He ground a fist to his chest, right above his heart. "This cannot be governed by rules. I was a fool to think it ever could."

I've needed this book since the moment I learnt that Bailey was blessing us with a paranormal romance featuring vampires. And yes, I can very well state right now that I sparkled right through it.

Funny enough, I went in thinking the star of the show was going to be - in all Bailey fashion - an alpha dirty talker vampire, but much to my surprise, it wasn't. Reborn Yesterday is not *just* all about the steam. And to my shocking and pleasant surprise, Jonas was a brooding, reserved and well mannered vampire that did everything to fight off his need for our heroine. Until he didn't that is, because he'll still set your panties on fire. And much to my surprise, not only was this novel a paranormal romance, but it also integrated comedic elements. So yes, all in all, we can say I was caught completely off guard by Reborn Yesterday. Except for one thing: Bailey's addictive writing. Because, that, friends, was perfectly on brand.

Ah-mazing and solid start to the genre and to a series that I hope will follow the vampire trio we get introduced to in Reborn Yesterday - fingers crossed because I think this will only get BETTER and BETTER.

(I call dibs on Elias btw)

Ginny I have to say I really liked, she's lovely and quirky. She's a mortician who likes making/designing clothes on the side. When she meets handsome and tormented vampire Jonas she's not willing to have him just walk out of her life after he's zapped her memories of him away. There are rules that prevent humans knowing about vampires, and Jonas knows he should stay away, but he's drawn to the innocent and charming Ginny, and as danger stalks her, he battles with his desire to be with her and the knowledge that he should keep far away.

I did want more development when it came to the main characters relationship, and depth to the strand of the tale and how it was included. Worldbuilding could have been more intricate and the ending more action packed.

Overall an easy and light read that I liked well enough as I read it, but honestly not one that has left a lasting impression, that being said I do want to read book 2.

REAL RATING; 1.5

this book was not it. it was so boring at times and it was very insta-love. Just because they're mates, Jonas becomes aggressively obsessive and possessive and I'm supposed to find that hot? It happened too fast for me. I also did not care for the plot and how much danger she was in. Let her die. I don't care. It was just so boring????

Note: I am a fan of Tessa Bailey's contemporary romance fiction.

"'You don’t know this, love, but I would kill, steal and die for you. There is nothing to fear.'"
I was not prepared for this book. I really wasn't. I felt the pull of both characters right away, but once I got halfway through it I just couldn't stop myself until I knew how it ended.
And it was so much more than I expected!

"Movies that celebrated a time when men kissed women like they meant it and a glance across the room could speak volumes. Or spark a love affair."
Jonas really is a total dreamboat - and a vampire. But he is also more than that - he's protective, he's honest, he's sweet and loving, and kind. You can't help but fall into the Jonas web - I did too. However, Ginny stole my heart. She's such a wonderful character, one who enjoys old Hollywood movies and sometimes imagines she is part of them. One who sews her own dresses. Someone so different from everyone else, and someone who's resigned to her existence as a mortician at her dad's old funeral home.

Until one fateful night when Jonas ends up on her table at the funeral home. And although they are so very different in so many ways, and even though nothing can happen between them, there's this pull between them, and it's undeniable. Unavoidable. And so freaking awe-inspiring.

"'With this kiss, I willingly damn myself to a lifetime of suffering. Happy birthday, love.'"
I feel like this book is about a lot of things. Yes, it has vampires and vampire slayers in it. And unsuspecting humans, too. And, of course, it's a love story with a happily ever after. But the way we get to that HEA is very different, and it kind of makes me want to go back and re-read this book right now.

I felt really emotional by the end of it. It kind of felt like a journey, one that showcases Ginny's huge heart and how she is showing us how we can deal with loss, and memories of loved ones, who never actually leave us.
And how those that do can sometimes come back because it was meant to be that way.

I am starting the second book right now. I cannot recommend this enough.

I just might need to think awhile before I review this book.
This really was the most quirky paranormal romance that I have read so far...almost an oddity in fact .... I mean in terms of comparing it to other Vampire romances that I have previously read...but I really did kinda like it and enjoy it..... I am definitely interested in reading the next book in this aptly titled Phenomenal Fate series : "This Time Tomorrow".

I just heard this book referred to as a romantic comedy and maybe it is!!! What do I know!!!
It did have a sort of lighthearted quality to it.
The funeral home setting was also a nice touch.

For some reason Tessa Bailey is an author that I haven't quite figured out yet....but overall I do like her writing style.....
you and me love GIF
I am just waiting for that book that I can really connect with.... and then for all the puzzle pieces to slide neatly into place.

Before I jump straight into Reborn Yesterday and all its goody goodness, I have to say something. TESSA, I LOVE YOU! Is that creepy? Sorry, not sorry. She stepped out of her comfort zone and brought us a paranormal romance and it was fang-tastic. Once again - sorry, not sorry.

Reborn Yesterday dropped yesterday, but I was one of the lucky ones that received an ARC so that I can tell you people to READ IT NOW.

Ginny isn't your average young adult. Since her father passed, she spends her nights in the morgue of her funeral home and her days avoiding her step-mother. The dead was better company anyway. When a handsome young gentleman gets rolled in, she can't help but to daydream about his short life. And how unfair it is for someone that is as handsome as him to have had passed away so soon.

To Ginny's surprise, her handsome stranger isn't quite dead. But he definitely isn't alive. Jonas Cantrell is taken aback by Ginny's quirky sense-of-humor and finds himself breaking the rules to spend one night with her. Ginny doesn't like that Jonas is so willing to say good-bye forever so she confides a secret. A secret only someone like Jonas can help her with.

Jonas vows to keep Ginny safe and find those who are trying to cause her harm. However, their feelings for one another is causing a whole other issue. If he keeps sticking around, Ginny won't be the only one in danger. Vampires aren't supposed to let humans know of their existence. He's risking everything to save her.

I really enjoyed this lighthearted, comical, forbidden tale. Tessa really knows how to mix heavy with light to create a memorable story. I'd say her first attempt at a paranormal romance is a success!

Did you catch that this is a series!? Jonas' roommate, Elias, and our favorite slayer, Roksana, will be the lovebirds in the next book. I'm sure Tucker's story will soon follow it. And while I loved Tucker (aka: the vamp Uber), I love me a tortured hero. I have a feeling that Elias with be my favorite vampire!

I really hope you decide to give this one a try. If you do, please let me know. If you already binged it, let me know your thoughts below. Until next time --

Paranormal romance and vampires. A combination that can’t go wrong. I enjoyed Ginny, Jonas and his friends. Ginny and Jonas’ first meeting in the morgue was great and the dialogue and interaction between them worked great. Ginny was an interesting character also because of her behavior towards vampires and the unexpected. That was refreshing. Jonas was intriguing and I couldn’t wait to get to know him. He was a good guy who wanted to do the right thing for Ginny no matter how she made him feel.

Jonas’ friends Tucker and Elias were two terrific additions to the story along with the slayer Roksana. She kicked ass. These three formed a friendship with Ginny that’s entertaining and had some great moments.
I liked Ginny and Jonas but sadly I couldn’t connect with them or feel any chemistry between them which unfortunately had an influence on my rating. Their interactions were awesome and made me smile and laugh numerous times but when it started to get intimate it just felt awkward. The overall story laid foundation for more to come. Especially Elias’ book and maybe Tucker. So even though Reborn Yesterday didn’t impress me I’m still interested in the other characters. It was a great start to what would hopefully be a series.

Well, I gave Tessa Bailey another chance and now I'm done with this woman
She writes adult characters who behave like teenagers. Don't get me started with the female lead Ginny, a 24-year old virgin that acts like an 18-year old (which would make more sense if she were a virgin at 18 than at 24). The vampire, Jonas (that's not a sexy name for a vampire in the XXI century) starts fine, even likable, but once they fuck, he starts talking and reacting like a teenage jealous boyfriend...Let's just say that this began like an attempt to be "True blood" and ended up more in the "Twilight" zone. The ending is so stupid. Maybe for teenage girls, but I don't want to underestimate teenage girls' intellectual capacity. So, Bailey's books are for people who like low quality writing.
The smut in her books isn't even good, if it were it would have turned me on but instead made me laugh!
I already returned it to Amazon. When they asked me to choose a reason for returning I chose "offensive content", which is true: for serious readers!

I actually liked this a lot, which I wasn't expecting after seeing all the low ratings and reviews🤷. It wasn't the best, but it kept me entertained and I loved how possessive the hero was and how charming the heroine was. The only negatives I can say are that I wish the pushing away done by the hero ended a lot sooner, as I felt like we barely had any time of them together as a couple. I also felt like the ending was anti climactic and a bit weird, but I also didn't necessarily expect an extravagant ending or anything, so that wasn't a huge disappointment. Overall a decent read though.

Hero was with OWs in the separation, which I didn't really mind seeing as he didn't know her before so didn't have a chance to be with her at all, and then she died. He also regretted it saying if he would have known of her he would have never been with ow. If he was with the heroine before though, THAT would have been a different story 😅

3+ "Silence" Stars!

I didn't love it like I thought I would, but I do still love the cover. The story was campy or quirky or something I didn't quite love. But the characters were likable and Jonas could do sweet dirty talk like a champ! I do love me a dirty talker! Happy reading!!

DNF at 60 %

I feel like I am missing a huge chunk of a story here and am simply not enjoying it at all.

I love Tessa Bailey but this book was not for me. I didn't feel the writing, the vampire concept, the storyline... Even the rhythm of the plot was a bit off. But I did take the 'tack it away for another day' quote for future reference 😂😂😂 not sure what my Boo is going to think about that though 🤣🤔

Reborn Yesterday is a paranormal rom-com...you read that right. A paranormal romantic comedy.

Those who know me know that I am a sucker for paranormal romance. I've read only two books by Tessa Bailey, which I have enjoyed but I have to say, when I read that she was writing a PNR,I was like "A PNR? Really?".
Suffice to say, I was sceptical yet intrigued.

Ginny is a mortician. And her quirky personality captures the reader from the get go.
Jones is your hot. That's all I can say. He's hot AF.

I really enjoyed this book. It was hilarious, endearing, sexy and a little dark(more on the lighter side as compared to other PNR). I couldn't stop reading and that people is a recipe for success.
Reborn Yesterday had the best of both worlds: rom-com + PNR

I for one cannot wait to read Book 2. Bring it on!

Think it's like a 2.5 stars

REBORN YESTERDAY had a lot of things going for it in the beginning. The dialogue was really witty, the opening scenario was wholesome, silly, and fun, and the main character had spark. The more I read, however, the more downhill it went.

I don't think this book is BAD per se, but I definitely think it could have been better . The author has a great opening, where the main character Ginny finds herself looking at a dead-turned-real body of a good-looking man and feels attracted to him. Cute enough. But as Ginny gets caught up into Jonas and his friend's world, the pacing fell off the hooks and the romance became moot. Because, well, everything afterwards relied on the presence of them being "mates" and an antagonistic plot that never really amounted to anything.

1) So the mating thing
Personally, I think mates are cool with supernatural/paranormal stories and they're cute in a way too. But it's gotta have SOME foundation. And I find in recent books, all the characters have to be are "mates" and BOOM they're in love. But like??? I get that Ginny is humorous and stubborn and loyal, but why in the heck is Ginny attracted to Jonas, other than being a hot guy, and her mate? His overprotective tendencies are whatever. What else does the guy have going for him? Not... a lot. Maybe some self flagellation (gotta follow The Rules and all) and being nice enough to help newly turned vampires. But other than that, he's just kind of... there. If only his Alpha-ness in being overprotective translated to his leadership roles. Which, apparently he HAS, but readers never SEE. We only get to hear about them. So. Idk what to really think on that bit.

2) Pacing???
The moment Jonas and Ginny meet, they're ALL IN. Suddenly Jonas is guarding for her every single day and they fall head over heels into love/lust/mating frenzy/attraction/whatever. It's all very discombobulated and I never felt the shift from all that animalistic attraction to actual emotional connection. While the dialogue IS pretty funny and cute and wholesome, I still think characters could have talked more about the past and what they feel, rather than keep it at a superficial level.

3) Dat Plot Tho
So basically, someone is trying to kill Ginny, and Jonas is trying to help her but guarding her, bc he feels an inexplicable bond towards her and they're mates, blah blah. But this part of the plot is so secondary, I couldn't bring myself to care when it happened. Yah, you don't have to be realistic (like, this is a PNR read; I really could care less on how realistic it is), and you CAN be predictable (there's only oh so many surprises I can take in this genre nowadays), but bad execution is just a no-no. With that, you're not even a qualifier, much less a winner. Come on now.

I think this book had a lot going for it in the beginning, but a lot of the execution made it lackluster and not worth another read. :( Sad, because I usually enjoy Tessa Bailey's books. Maybe I'd recommend it to her fans, and not general fans of the genre, because there are better vampire books out there. OH and maybe you like your romances without substance. Which, who am I to judge? I think that's fine as well.
