Mia Knight penned one of my most read/re-read series (not to mention one of my TOP book husbands of all time #GavinForever). A series I have LITERALLY read over ten times start to finish.

And that's not even counting those "revisit" reads in which I only go back and re-read my favorite parts.

Because, whelp, when something is that delicious...you just have to binge on it whenever possible, my friends.

Like a toddler with a jar of Nutella.

^See? #proof

But I digress.

I was lucky enough to be on Facebook a while back (which IS actual luck, because it's rare that I am anywhere near that den of perfectly curated hashtag lives) and strike up a Messenger convo with Miss Knight - who said she actually knew who I was, by the way.

description

After admitting to major book sploosh love telling her how much I appreciate her writing, she mentioned she was authoring something new and I begged calmly requested she consider me when sending out ARCs.

description

Fast forward to this thing hitting kindle the same night I had to attend a wedding...How dare REAL love get in the way of my fictional passion, people!

description

And then me the next day.

description

Needless to say, I read this thing in one sitting. You know, one of those never-got-out-of-my-pajamas-and-took-kindle-to-the-bathroom-with-me sittings. Those sittings we as readers PINE for.

And, while I won't say this will be up there with Crime Lord for me - because nothing ever will be - I LOVED this thing.

The H is a total and complete alphahole of the highest order - my favorite thing of all time.

description

Seriously though, he is a total dick and does shit that will piss some readers off. If you are a reader who doesn't dig characters who straddle certain moral lines, this probably isn't the book for you. And more power to you, no judgment.

We all have and are allowed to have different reading tastes, triggers, and preferences.

I, however, personally love crazy/jacked up/sociopath-ish leading men (aka men I would NEVER date IRL if not already hitched, who might or might not commit acts I would obviously never condone in real life - and am NOT condoning just because I read about it in my FICTION).

Because twisted and heartless.

description

But, if you are like me in that regard, you would probably love this too.

The chemistry between the H and the h was, in my opinion, off the charts and the story line definitely kept me interested. Knight is very good at showing and not telling. Her characters are very well fleshed out. And the psychological motivations and/or conflicts always make sense as applied to character thoughts and actions.

As I said, I was glued to this thing from beginning to end...and while it doesn't necessarily end on a cliffHANGER....it definitely ends on a bit of a cliff...dangle. A cliffdangle. There you go, seems legit.

description

In short, I cannot WAIT for book two.

“I’ll burn your fucking wings.”

Toxicity 🤝 sobbing from frustration and heartache

the way this book successfully revived me from my slump within the first two pages lmao nothing like toxicity to spice things up and make me cry experience emotions again 😃

I’m so disgustingly invested with this rich couple and their families/scandals. In no way was I expecting to feel rlly deeply for ALL the characters or that there would be characters other than the MCs that would MAKE me feel 😭 It was so outta left field for me bc wdym I’m crying over her bonding w her sisters?!

The Characters

—> Jasmine Hennessy

omg this girl has been THRU it 😩 I feel for her so bad. I can’t help but love her despite her lack of brain cells lmao. She gave her everything to everyone and left one thing for herself but she couldn’t even have that in peace ugh I just wanna be her shelter from the worlddd 😭❤️‍🩹

She had the biggest heart out of all the characters and I vehemently despised when Jamie would use that against her 🤚 it makes me cry just thinking about it. I rlly want Jamie to realise the damage he’s done bc this shit is fucking painful.

Her hurt felt so real 😭 when she felt helpless, I felt helpless (and a lot pissed off bc she was extremely pathetic when it came to Roth lmao)

omfds it should be illegal how this author can make me cry w just a couple words 😣 but seriously whenever someone would give her any grief her emotions would be translated really well for me despite it being written in third person.

jasmine trying to figure out what the blackmail was lmao
description

—> James Roth

Listen, Jamie is a mental case thru n thru okay, I get it. There were things he would say/do that got me like damn he SHOULD be institutionalised lmao. But when he had those moments where he would go against his nature and be soft w her ugh it did things to me.

I love it when they play mind games, the mental gymnastics is what makes things interesting 👹👹

But right now? He fucking AGGRAVATES me. I’m legit fuming bc what the fuck is he playing at?! 😫 He’s an extreme anti villain. He doesn’t gaf about who he hurts in the process to get what he wants. I don’t see any anti hero in this guy rn bc his motives aren’t clear yet. He’s hiding A LOT of secrets which is so frustrating bc WHAT R U HIDING I NEED TO KNOW-

At certain times he got me blushing and kicking my feet but then he’d say smth so outta pocket and I wanted to deck him soo baddd.

Me when he would snatch her phone off her:
description

I was always hoping for Jasmine to find a way out 😭 and when he’d stop her. every. fucking. time. it would only aggravate me more argh

There needs to be some kind of development in his character or I will genuinely hate the fuck outta him. I need him to SUFFER in the next book 🤚I want Jasmine to give him sm grief or like withhold shit from him or SOMETHING! He needs to regret hurting her and grovel as his life depends on it.

—> jasmine & family

I loved her relationship w her sisters and brothers-in-law, more specifically, Lyle, that man needs to be protected at all costs I love him sm. he might not be the best but he loves Jasmine and cares for her and it makes my heart twinge whenever he interacts with loved ones.

Collette was so loveable even tho she’s supposed to be hard and emotionless. Her and Lyle brought life to this book which I absolutely loved. Their background and personalities felt fleshed out well to me. As much as a side character should be.

Ngl Ariana was just there. She made no impact to the story or had any solid input. Neither did her husband lol. Their kids were adorable as fuck tho ugh Bailey has my heartttt

The writing

ARREST THIS AUTHOR FOR WRITING THIS BOOK IN SINGLE POV !!! I’ve never yearned for a guy's POV like I have for Jamie’s . Butttt I didn’t hate that it was in her POV the whole way thru either- I was never bored or disappointed with the way her thoughts came across.

The author integrated the chapters of their past really well- I’m falling in love rn. Coming from someone who hates the past/present time jumps, it was written in a way that didn’t take me out of the story but got me more invested. I was sobbing my heart out with most of them ugh.

real life footage of me

She surprises him by flying to London:

He shrugged back his sleeve to glance at his watch.

“I’m late for a meeting. You should have told me you were coming. I would have told you not to bother. I’m busy.”

description

“I miss him so much. I don’t have anyone,” she whispered forlornly.
“You have me,” he murmured as he brushed kisses over her face.
“I never had you.”
description

“I’m not going to hurt you.”
“You already have.”

description

“I don’t want you to regret this.”
“I won’t.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”

me during the second half of this book just to get to that ending only to lose even more sleep 😭🤚

“You feed my demons,” he rasped.
“You created mine.”

The fact that I’ve been delaying reading this for so long because I didn’t want to stop at the “terrible cliffhanger” and ended up not caring at all?? I’m disappointed.

The book was just so freakin repeatable! And I didn’t care at all. Not about the inheritance, not about them, not about that big freakin secret, and not whatever this book was actually about. I just didn’t care. The whole book felt like a filler and I was so bored. Also, I was reading the last chapter expecting to be freaked out and ended feeling like “oh..okay?”

so i bet most of you think i didn’t enjoy this bc of the toxic-dysfunctional-sorta abusive relationship and the dubious content goin on in here...well guess what

in fact, i actually....dug it— I KNOWW!!

lol not true. i lowkey knew she existed, just never thought this side of B would ever meet yall...so heyyY i guess (? pls like me) ~

Anywayy
James Roth....ma’am, i repeat...James. fuckin. ROTHHHHHH! the stars are for him btw
me @ Jamie da man:

the ✨𝓼𝓶𝓾𝓽✨?

Now, my BIG problem was that....
i just. didn’t. give. a shiiIT!—whatever that was going on w the plot (inheritance conflict and all), i didn’t care for any of them AT ALL. i even started skim-reading the second half of it.

We’ve already established that James is thirst-worthy but what didn’t sell for me was that his character felt inconsistent? He’d be this crazy alpha-hole and then suddenly be unrealistically nice towards the heroine— it just seemed odd for his level of doucheness, yfeel me? (maybe you don’t but that’s ok lets move on) Also, it turns out i hate that trope where the heroine writes romance/smut based on her past relationships🥴 the fact that James constantly remind her that her books and smuts are inspired by them gave me second hand embarrassment 😩🤚🏻liiike stOPPP you’re not supposed to knoW thAT! his secretary knowing abt it was mortifying enough

everyone @ the ending:

meanwhile me @ the ending:

and for that BOOM! - 2 stars (so please recommend me sumn like this but w a plot that’ll grip my bland and easily-bored ass l 🤗)

"She watched the flames devour the wood blocks. She was the wood. He was the flame. After this, they would be ash."

This book was outrageously entertaining, epic, explosive, and a labyrinth of highly charged emotions! This author is amazing. She has the uncanny ability to always create multifaceted characters and a plot that never stops. I can't freaking wait for the next book in the series!

The only reason I would call this a dark romance is because of the consent/non-consent between our two main characters. There is definite tension between the two and a lot of times Jasmine says not but her and Roth both know she means yes (which is clear to me in their scenes together). She doesn't want to admit she's still attracted to and wants Roth because of how their relationship ended. Jasmine and Roth are divorced and have a rocky past because Jasmine married him in defiance of her family's wishes, but then divorced him because of her family as well. I will say, this book is very romance-based and there isn't too much of a plot that took place in this first book. I felt like we were waiting for that reveal at the end and I'm disappointed to have to wait for another book to see how it will play out.

With this book, though, I did enjoy the intensity and anger between Jasmine and Roth. Their relationship is so heavily affected by their families and society's expectations, so it was nice seeing them have to be around each other now and deal with their problems. I read this book in just over a day, so I couldn't put it down. I wish that this story was just in one book, but I did end up enjoying this one!

3 ... 3.25 stars? Idk I liked it, but at the same time not... I have really mixed feelings about this one.

Okay wow I'm scared. If by some chance your stars don't align, you unfortunately meet a guy like James Roth and he gets obsessed with you? YOU'RE COMPLETELY SCREWED. And what I mean is that you are royally f*cked. Not the FBI, not a restraining order, not even the devil himself is going to protect you form him once he set his eyes on you. Try to run and this guy is going to drag you back by your hair while laughing his ass off.
“I want freedom,” she said fiercely. “I grew wings after I left you. I soared without you.”
“I’ll burn your fucking wings.”

Dude, this relationship between Roth and Jasmine was something else. Jasmine and Roth relationship is one of the most toxic, abusive, unhealthy and dysfunctional relationships I've read in a very long time. Roth is an absolute asshole with a capital A. Man, I wouldn't wish that man on my worse enemy. The way he manhandled Jasmine was ehhh not always comfortable to read. He's also doesn't really understand the meaning of the word "No" or "Stop" but nobody is perfect right? 😂 The dubious consent here is real. This book is tiptoeing a really thin line between dark and rape-y. You're warned.
“There’s nowhere you can hide from me. I’d hunt you down.”

As much as Roth is scaring the hell out of me. I think deep down under all the asshole layers, there is actually a decent guy. I saw glimpses of soft in him. It's not much, but that's what I choose to see 😂. Despite his very controversial actions I can't hate him. He is way too interesting and intriguing. Good for the rest of the female population that Jasmine has to deal with him. No one else would be able to handle.

What I really loved is the plot and Mia Knight's writing style. It's very addictive and I couldn't put this book down (which doesn't happen often lately so that's def a plus point). I'm already way too excited for the next book in the trilogy because let's be honest I'm a bish for twisted and crazy sociopaths.

UPDATED REVIEW

My first rating was 2 stars and now i decided to give it 1 star, why you ask? GET READY FOR A RANT

this review contains spoilers btw

I have no idea how I managed to finish this book. Going into this book i thought that i’d read a story about a divorced couple (jasmine & roth) who would try to work things out between them and get a HEA ending blah blah blah.

I didnt know that Roth would be completely DERANGED.

Lets list reasons why i fucking hated his character shall we:

1- he literally sexually assaults her. There are various scenes in which jasmine repeatedly says NO and PUSHES him/his hand away. Does that stop him? Of course not. Sure she gets aroused by him, BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT SHE CONSENTED TO SEX!!! It was very disturbing how he repeatedly raped her throughout the book

2- he abuses her. Emotionally AND physically. There was a scene where he grabbed her hand and twisted it behind her back causing a “throbbing shoulder”. Why you ask? Because he was looking through HER phone and how dare she to try and take it back??!??!
Another scene that pissed me the fuck off was when he took her father’s letter (which was the last thing she got from him after his death) and when she tried to get it back he “grabbed her flailing wrist and twisted her arm, forcing her to drop to her knees or risk breaking it” yup.. thats a quote directly from the book.

3- Oh, did i mention that he physically abused en elderly woman?

4- called her a whore after she slept with him lmaooo

And don’t get me started on jasmine. She is fucking dumb. God i hated her more than her husband. She is such a doormat. A delusional doormat.

Like what Someone (i dont remember who) said in the reviews, she cant think or act beyond her lust and it pisses me off how she keeps going back to him. Like girl have some self respect. She also keeps crying and sobbing throughout the entire book. Ugh.

i could go on and on about how much i hated both jasmine and roth but its 3am and i have college tomorrow so...

Peace ✌🏻

This book is a mess but I ended up enjoying it. The hero and heroine's relationship is toxic, unhealthy, and dysfunctional. Maybe deep inside I am a closet masochist 😚😊💁🏾‍♀️

This ends with a horrible cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next book. It's was really interesting.

James Roth is the kind of man you get into protective custody to run away from.
You know what? Fuck that, even protective custody wouldn't save you. You need to move to the moon, but he'd find you there because the moon is popular these days .

But in fiction?

This girl is obsessed with him. Obsessed, I tell you.

A longer review rant is gonna have to wait for the other two books of the trilogy.
2021, can you maybe come a little sooner? Please? 😭😭😭

Oh, boy...
Bitter Heat took me back to 2011 when my husband made the biggest mistake of his life gifting me with a kindle, and so my reader career in English began. Guess reading what?
Mills & Boon.

So, this felt like reading a Mills & Boon on steroids.

So good, the angst an unhealthy relationship brings to the table just send my entertainment level sky-high.

From my previous sentence, the most important word is unhealthy . Steer clear of this if you don't like toxic relationships represented in fiction.

James Roth is bat shit crazy.

Jasmine, run for your life, girl!

The only reason I'm not splashing a full 5 stars is that Jasmine's sisters were weird characters.

I NEED THE SECOND BOOK STAT.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book, and I was basically going in blind and boy did it pay off. This reminded me of the romance circa 2014 when authors weren't afraid to write more than one lackluster sex scene at the 90% mark of the book. This was STEAMY from beginning to end. The MC's have an insane amount chemistry mixed with angst. Oh, and theres alot of really great sex scenes.

I'm very excited and anxious to see where the story goes (while also hitting myself for starting a series that isnt finished yet.) I pray the author gives her characters enough time to develop, especially the hero. Everything is kind of riding on him at this point. HE could make or break the book for me.

Safety:
Theres alot to unpack here and I cant give too many details because I dont know enough myself. So here goes...
-Heroine was a virgin when she first meets hero but it was in the past and we never see that scene.
-She was not celibate during separation (THANK YOU BABY JESUS!!!!!!!!) and they were divorced at that time
-There was no mention if hero was a manwhore in his past, and I *think* he was celibate during separation. *fingers crossed*
-They do not split up from cheating. Heroine suspected he was but H outright says he never cheated on her and I believe him because hes obsessed with the h.
-Toxic relationship. Hero uses sexual manipulation on the heroine. She teqnically has betraying-body-alert but it didnt bother me at all for some reason. Shes strong in her own way.

-Slight physical abuse (and also the biggest thing to unpack). Theres a scene where the H is very rough with the h and hurts her arm. He's remorseful after and tries to take care of her. He also wraps his hands around another womans neck because she was threatening to reveal something about the Hero's past to the heroine. He's not sorry about this incident, and its revealed hes a bit of a sociopath (cant feel empathy/ lack of conscience (which is what im hoping is delved into more with the next book))

-No OW drama (yet)
-NO OM drama (yet) although H is extremely jealous of h's past hookups when they were separated.
-Push and pull on both sides
-Did I mention hero is batshit crazy obsessed with heroine?
-Yeah, thats all I know so far and im DYING

“You really are a monster,” she whispered.
“I am,” he agreed. “And now you have to live with it.”

this was as good as i remembered. i've been meaning to reread it for a while now but promised myself i wouldn't do it until book 2 was near, and now apparently it's coming in dec/jan?? mia knight heard my prayers 🙏🙏

the first 20/30% of this book? SO. GOOD. she meets her creepy ex husband in a hospital at night, then they have to spend the night in a cabin in the middle of nowhere while they can't go out because of the snow. tell me it doesn't feel like a horror story 😂 the atmosphere was so well built, i couldn't stop reading
“You shouldn’t have come here alone.”
“Why?”
He glanced at her, the lights from the dashboard turning his eyes an eerie green. “Now you have no one to save you.”

i didn't find it as dark as i did the first time i read it though. fair warning that this has a lot of dub-con and that Roth (H) is a walking red flag, but idk, i think i read worse by now dkskjd. he works as a hero because he's so fucking obsessed with Jasmine (h), he'll do anything to get her back. and there's nothing i love more than an obsessed hero who misses his wife 🥺😩
“You fucked up, letting me get a taste of you again,” he breathed against her temple.
“This is the last time.”
His dark chuckle made her body erupt in goose bumps.

i also loved Jasmine?? i wish she'd fight him a bit more ngl, but at the same time i can't blame her 🤠 this was a single POV book and while i'm dying to see what Roth thinks, i enjoyed being in Jasmine's mind. i also liked the family aspect in this book and seeing her relationship with Lyle, her sisters and her dad 🥺
“Why couldn’t you just love me?” she whispered.

another unpopular opinion: i was so invested in the plot too. i know a lot of people found it boring or found the pace a bit slow, but this family business drama reminds me of Succession (tv show) with some dark romance thrown into the mix. so i'm a fan 😌

all in all, i love this book 😭 it's not a 5 star read, but book 2 definitely has the potential to be. to be honest this feels like a long prologue, and it's one of the few books i'm not mad it's getting split into two or three books (hopefully not four though 💀) since there are so many things left for us to read and find out.

plus, i'm a james roth apologist. he can do no wrong in my eyes. he's just an obsessed, misunderstood little boy 🥺💗
“You feed my demons,” he rasped.
“You created mine.”

I think I've developed a negative pavlovian response to this book, let me explain

description

I have been waiting for ages for the next book in this authors Crime Lord series to come out (Carmen's book btw, I can't give less of a fuck about Lyla), but I can't get MY book until y'all get YOUR sequel to this book

description

So as time went on and I kept seeing this book, I think a subconscious resentment built up to the point that I've pretty much been unknowingly boycotting, just silently seething over here while everyone else is having a good time. Petty ass hater, that's me 💅🏽 So when I realized the ill-advised logic my evil-kermit brain had been feeding me (bc Singed fans are just as eager to get their hands on their own sequel) I looked in the mirror and said

description

So I decided that if you can't beat em, join em. However, I read the thing and

This was a 1-2 star book for me up until the 90% mark. I liked Jasmine but Roth could get fucked. His personality felt flat and it seemed like his character was set up to be larger than he was. He didn't have much presence or idk, that je ne sais quoi that characters like him are supposed to have. He had a few good moments, like when he told her he wanted to fuck her so her recently deceased father (who Jasmine was still grieving for) would turn over in his grave?

description

Or how shameless he was about being a disgusting animal?

“You jacked off on me while I was asleep, didn’t you?”
“Twice."
“Do you know how long it took to wash the cum out of my hair?”

description

But overall I really just didn't like the guy. Something about his demeanor rubbed me the wrong way and bored me to death all at once. I think it was because I could see the potential of what he was supposed to be, but he wasn't quite fulfilling it so his undeserved arrogance annoyed me.

Until those last three chapters 😏

“I want freedom,” she said fiercely. “I grew wings after I left you. I soared without you.”
“I’ll burn your fucking wings.”

What does it say about me that Roth could only win me over once ?? Nothing you didn't already know 😌😇

So while I can't say this book totally worked for me, and it definitely frustrated me that the reveal at the end was really only a half-reveal, I have a feeling that the next book was set up to go over a lot better for me. James Roth, we've come so far you psychotic son of a bitch, do me proud.

Tf did I just read?

tate from ugly love has some competition bc jasmine is hands down one of the most pathetic and doormat heroines I have EVER read about. Also one of worst cases of betraying body syndrome I've come across. it was sickening

I should've studied for my exam 😭 the regrets I have rn

I had just about given up on reading a decent story for the rest of this year, but my good friend Zoë suggested this baby. I'm so happy she did. I was sucked in from the very first page and could not put this baby down.

Roth was such a gigantic A-Hole with his cruel treatment towards Jasmine. Of course I adore asshole heroes, so I was absolutely in love from the very first glimpse of him.

Jasmine was devastated by Roth during their short marriage. Roth blowing back into Jasmine's life like a tornado and leaving her in the wake of the storm was fabulous to experience. The sex in this story was combustibly HOT. And there was a ton of it, but the sex scenes never got stale.

The only thing I hated about this story was that cliffy ending.

Yep, she did. It's a good things this author is worth the wait. I absolutely hate that I will have to wait an eternity for the sequel to this story to come out.

Holy Crap! What did I just read?! Bitter Heat was the first Mia Knight book I read but it honestly will NOT be my last. This book is pure Five Star gold!! I read it in one sitting and could not get enough!! I am OBSESSED with James Roth and Jasmine Hennessy and seriously could not get enough of their uber hot story!!

Honestly when I went into this story I had no idea what to expect. When Jasmine and Roth are reunited years after an acrimonious divorce, the sparks between them could not be denied. But when Jasmine is forced to surrender her will to a man full of hate and on a quest for vengeance, she has no idea about the explosive secrets being kept from her.

OMG what a story! Roth and Jasmine were pure FIRE. I loved the push and pull in the story and the heat between them. Despite the anger and the bitterness between them there was something about one another that drew each other in like moths to a flame. It was insanity!! This story was all combustible chemistry, drama and secrets. And that ending?! OMFG!! Mia Knight dropped a mic with that crazy ending and left us all floundering for more!! This was fantastic!! I seriously can not wait for more!! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

I expected more from this book, but all I felt while reading it is boredom.

And after a week all I remembered from the book is that the h/H weren't celibate during separation, and the heroine write romance books based on her sexual experiences 😬

please tell me authors don't do this, or I will never read another sex scene.

"You really are a monster,” she whispered. “I am,” he agreed. “And now you have to live with it.”

Sigh...I absolutely loved this book. Jasmine and Roth were the perfect toxic couple. They provoked so much intense fire for one another🔥

Roth was domineering, selfish and alluring. There was so much mystery behind his actions and his intentions whenever he did anything for Jasmine.. They married for two years, with so many obstacles surrounding their marriage...and divorced when she realized it was all a sham. Jasmine was a strong heroine who stood up to him, yet was always weak when it came to the fire between them.

"There was a darkness to Roth that had drawn her in like a moth to a flame."

I loved their chemistry. They ignited a lot of emotions once they united again after their divorce.

"Do you know why you ran from me?” he asked harshly.."It’s because you know you belong to me. You crave what I give you. You’re not strong enough to fight me, so you run."

Rating 5 stars🌟.. Can't wait for book 2

“You feed my demons,” he rasped.
“You created mine.”❤

DNF @ 30%

Nenia and I do a lot of buddy-reads, some more successful than others. We decided to try again after getting this for free on Amazon, and we thought "Why not read a dark romance where the male lead repeatedly rapes his ex-wife?"

Oh wait no. We didn't think that at all. But that's exactly what we read.

This started out decently, but we realized something was amiss once the first sex scene arrived. It was quite prolonged, and full of language neither of us particularly enjoys in sex scenes, like "sloppy pussy" or "licking her kitty." And, you know, this endless sex scene was sooooo rapey. There's dub-con, and then there's this nonsense. The heroine says no or pushes him away over and over and over, but he never EVER pauses or listens to her before doing whatever the fuck he wants. It got to be really, really disturbing. At one point, after he has "wrecked" her, she wakes up to him fucking her, only she's so exhausted she doesn't even know where she is or who he is. And then she just... falls back asleep. After describing this supposedly hot ex of hers, the only one who can properly turn her on, as a "massive sweaty blanket."

BE STILL MY BEATING OVARIES.

What makes his constant rapes even worse is that he's a huge guy and she has no chance whatsoever against him physically. And every single person working for him is basically a captor, because they participate in keeping her from a phone and herding her into cars and planes. Because this fuckwad told them to. Though the heroine goes along with everything after some argument, she keeps voicing her displeasure and saying no. And NOBODY FUCKING LISTENS. Just what the fuck????

So anyway, I'm not reading this mess anymore.

Nenia didn't like this either, so be sure to check out her review too!

I was planning to rate this higher at first, because I was much younger then, and didn't realize quite how bad the sex scenes were. So this gets one star.

I need the next book stat! Well done read by a new to me author.

“I’m not like everyone else.” “I want freedom,” she said fiercely. “I grew wings after I left you. I soared without you. ”

“I’ll burn your fucking wings.”

Leave his ass and then we will talk

Rationally speaking, I think the main problem here is i cannot even fathom ever loving a man like Roth. I understand naivety and the lack of judgment from a young girl and understandably falling in love but jumping head first into the same cliff knowing that the high was never worth the fall, but you do that all the same even through regrets and shame.

Just because you have a safety net of knowing he is the hero and will redeem through, means, that the girl has to be borderline dumb and horny to take him back. Her entire character being between the hero and his toxic ass that she is almost happy he came back with his red flag waving.

Roth is a selfish bastard and never deserving of the word hero or anti-hero. It’s actually a shame to the people who have honoured that word. He is, what they call, “a sad excuse of a man, a prototype meant for people to understand what to avoid and not entertain.

If Roth is a tragedy then Jasmine is his scape 🐐 g.o.a.T, the pawn, that one sacrifice in the middle of the game which in the end never truly contributes to the win.

And nowadays,
I have less tolerance towards people like jasmine and Jamie.
They both can lick each other’s asses for all I care

I love reading manipulators but only those who got a game, so sorry Roth!

I was surprised how the story was okayish and repetitive besides how it goes all about having major twisted calls from the past.

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟."

I couldn't connect with either Roth and Jasmine, I didn't feel I got enough (real moments) of both their past and present to feel them.
Jasmine? for the least felt like a side character.
and Roth? most part of the book it felt he's lost because even if it ends on a cliffhanger the Roth I read only on the last pages of the book felt like the James Roth we were promised.

"𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮."
that makes the two of us, Jasmine.
