Forever Love #1

When Forever Changes

Rate this book
Gabby

Looking back, I should have seen the signs. Perhaps I did, but I subconsciously chose to ignore them.

From the time I was ten, when I first met Dylan, I knew he was my forever guy. Back then, I couldn’t put words to what I was feeling, but, as the years progressed, I came to recognize it for what it was—soul-deep love. The kind only very few people ever get to experience.

Dylan was more than just my best friend, my childhood sweetheart, my lover. He was my soul mate. We were carved from the same whole—destined to be together forever.

Until he changed.

And I believed I was no longer good enough.

Until he shattered me so completely, it felt like I ceased to exist.

And I’d never experienced such heart-crushing pain.

Until he leveled me a second time, and I truly wanted to die.

But I had to stay strong because I wasn’t alone in this cruel twist of fate.

I look to the sky, pleading with the stars, begging someone to tell me what I should do because I don’t know how to deal with this. I don’t know how to cope when my forever has changed, and I can’t help wondering if I had seen the signs earlier, if I’d pushed him, would it have been enough to save us?

Or had fate already decided to alter our forever?

Due to mature content and potential triggers this book is only recommended to readers over the age of eighteen.

Overall Opinion: Well....I'm not sure where to even start. I struggled with this one. A lot. I felt like there was so much going on and happening to where it was meant to be this huge angst-fest, but sadly didn't even get close to hitting the mark for me. The drama felt OTT tbh . I also didn't like the h. I wondered why either of the guys fought for her. I think a lot of that was the fact that we didn't really experience any of them falling in love. We get a lot of mushy talk and "I love yous" thrown around, but I felt like I was just constantly told about their connections instead of feeling them. She also made some choices that I didn't quite support, and she seemed selfish at times to where I simply didn't find her all that likable. I get that some might really like this, but it just didn't work for me.

This book broke me.

If you like short and simple reviews, I suggest you take the above sentence as a representation of what is to come. If you’re willing to read an essay-length ramble regarding how much of a mess this book made me, feel free to continue. I warn you in advance, however, that the above statement is true – the book did break me, and I doubt my ability to accurately express my feelings towards this book.

Siobhan Davis always pulls a ramble of a review out of me, countless words detailing my love of the story she has given the world. When Forever Changes is not the only book to have resulted in a messy review, yet I fear this may be the messiest to date. I was, without a doubt, a hot mess. Hell, you can get rid of the ‘hot’ and just call me a ‘mess’. In fact, it was so bad a part of me was tempted to treat this review as though I was back in school, sitting in an English class listening to a teacher explaining how we need to dissect the book into different chunks. Characterisation, the plot, symbolism, foreshadowing, and other notions that pull us away from enjoying a book in the way it is supposed to be enjoyed. I moved away from such an approach, knowing it would appear I was analysing the book rather than enjoying it, but such circled me back to the messy approach. Hence, you have my apologies in advance.

As always, I was excited about the new Siobhan Davis book from the moment I heard about it. Siobhan Davis is one of those authors where I will gladly jump at whatever she releases next. Except for the Alinthia series (personal preference means I’m not a big fan of reverse harem) and the True Calling series (I own them, but I jumped on the Siobhan Davis bandwagon with Saven which came after the release of True Calling), I dive into each new book the moment it appears on my Kindle. In fact, Siobhan Davis is one of those authors who leaves me willing to put aside my current read so I can dive into her next release.

Due to being on vacation, there was a bit of a delay before I could dive into this one. Whilst waiting, the reviews started to appear. Everyone seemed to love this one, throwing words around that equated to the book leaving them an emotional mess. I’m not one for emotions – it’s both a blessing and a curse – and scoffed at the notion. I can count on one hand, with fingers to spare, the number of books that have made me cry – and every time I was deep in PMS, so I had a worthy excuse. Sure, Siobhan Davis brings the angst, but I’ve never let out tears at any of her books before.

When I first started When Forever Changes, I could not understand why everyone was acting as though this book would be another to add onto my list of books that made me cry. In fact, I was a wee bit uncertain at first. For around the first twenty percent of the book, I feared Siobhan Davis had fallen into a trap I find so many authors fall into: the sex trap. Sex sells, I get that, but I’m rather particular about my sex to story ratio in romance books. I read plenty of erotica, so things are different there, but in books labelled as romance I’m more particular. Moreover, I like to feel the connection between the characters in romance books when there is sex involved, and when we jumped straight into the hot and heavy times I did not feel anything. Again, the exception is erotica where my reading tastes are rather specific (and quite a distance away from the kind of scenes you find in Siobhan Davis books), and the feelings evoked are very different to the feels I get in romance.

As I mentioned, though, it was just the first twenty percent or so of this book where I was uncertain. The sex started to fall into the background and the angst started to move to the fore. At this point, I became much happier with the book. In fact, I was sucked in extremely deeply and found the book supremely difficult to put down. I’ll admit that I never came to enjoy the characters to the degree I have enjoyed characters in other Siobhan Davis novels, but the storyline gripped me hard. I had ideas of where things were going, there were things I was expecting to see, yet I couldn’t stop the pages turning as I worked my way through the specific details.

If you do not want a spoiler-like section, I suggest you skip the next paragraph. I’m not going to outright say what happens, but I will elude to aspects that may result in you working things out. I promise, the paragraph after is elusion free, and you will not miss anything by skipping this one paragraph.

As someone who has suffered with migraines since the age of seven (at least, that’s when they were recognised as migraines, my mother can recall countless times when I was even younger where I would complain about the pain in my head, as it is unusual for a seven year old to lock themselves in the attic as it’s the only place where true darkness can be found and most sounds can be blocked), this book brought to life old fears. Anyone who suffers with migraines will have had the same thought. Some people are given explanations for their migraines – I have a friend who gets hormonal migraines, her time of the month bringing them on; my mother had a friend who gets allergy migraines, certain foods cause migraines – whereas there are those of us who will go through countless tests and they will never be able to explain them. It’s simply a facet of life, something we must deal with and hope the medication works each time. Therefore, when I knew this was an emotional book and the migraines appeared my natural paranoia about the worst-case scenario kicked in, which meant certain details of this book were not quite as surprising as they could have been.

Now, back to spoiler free territory.

Although I had worked out what the big emotional element of the story was to be, it did not prepare me for what was to come. This story hurt. It was legitimately painful. It is another book added to the extremely short list of books that have made me cry. Worse, this wasn’t casual crying. Oh no, it was far from that. This was tears running down my cheeks, holding in the noises, making strange whimpering sounds, blurred vision, and hoping nobody knocks on my door at any point in the foreseeable future crying. Yes, you read that right – the girl who never lets her emotions out, the one who scoffed at the notion of this book making her cry, did cry at When Forever Changes. She cried hard. She cried really hard.

The emotions in this book are so heavy. It punches you in the gut, then the heart, then continues to jab any part of the anatomy where it can reach you, just so the pain continues. There was an entire section of this book where I did nothing but blubber, trying to hold in my emotions. When this section passed, and things calmed down again, I thought I was good – then we get hit again with the epilogue. I may not have fallen as madly in love with these characters as I had hoped, but they certainly packed plenty of emotional punches.

I could go on and on about the emotional impact of this book, but this review is already at the usual Siobhan Davis fangirl length. Just heed my warning: take into consideration those suggestions of tissues. Don’t be a Siobhan (a me, not the author) and ignore the warnings, don’t scoff and think you’ll be okay. You won’t be okay. You’ll be very far from okay. You’ll be broken. This book will break you.

So yeah, everyone throws around how Siobhan Davis is a master of emotional reads, people constantly claim her stories are full of angsts and will hit you in the feels, but with When Forever Changes Siobhan Davis has cemented her status. I could appreciate the angst in her other books, I could recognise the emotions, but it wasn’t until When Forever Changes that Siobhan Davis had me reacting like all her other readers. I guess I’m not immune after all, there is a heart hidden within.

Without a doubt, this is the most emotional book Siobhan Davis has written to date. I cannot stress that enough. I may not have fallen in love with this one straight away, I may be not labelling the characters my favourites, but I cannot deny this book was the emotional jackpot.

It’s a story of love and pain, a story of those around you. It’s not a simple boy meets girl story, it’s so far from that, it’s so much more than that. It’s a story that constantly reiterates the power of the people you let into your lives – the positives they have, the negatives they have, and the downright heartbreak life offers up. This will be labelled a romance novel, and whilst I completely agree with the label I feel as though it is so much more than that. The romance is secondary to the real-life experiences. The romance pales when placed next to the strength of friendship and familial bonds. The book lets you know real life will bring pain, but it’s the beauty found in those moments before that really matter.

I could attempt to be poetic, I could try and throw some pretty pose together to highlight the depth of this story, but no amount of words will be enough. You cannot begin to imagine the power of this story until you read it. You need to read it to appreciate all that is to be found within When Forever Changes.

Considering how this has been a rant of emotions, I’ll end the review with something a lot less emotional. It’s something that will probably get lost within other reviews, considering how emotion heavy reviews are going to be.

If you’re a Siobhan Davis fan, you’ve probably read her other standalone work. First, we were given Inseparable. Then we were given Incognito. In Incognito we were given plenty of nods towards Inseparable – to the point where it almost seemed as though they were two connected books from a single series. When Forever Changes gives us some nods towards Incognito. It’s much subtler this time, but it’s nice for fans of Incognito to see a little bit more from the characters. I also feel as though one of the side stories in When Forever Changes, one of the side romances, was never concluded to the degree I would have liked it to be. I had questions, and I cannot help but question whether this was intentional. It could very well be a sign we’re going to get that story in the future – and as nice as that notion does sound, a part of me would be happier if this remained a complete standalone (nod to Incognito withstanding). I can even deal with the unanswered questions, as life does not always give us all the answers we want. If there was one thing When Forever Changes shows us, it’s life is unpredictable.

Forrest Gump may have taught us life is like a box of chocolate as we never know what we’re going to get; When Forever Changes confirms that in the most heart-breaking of ways – it shows us life is full of ups and downs, heartbreaks and loves, and so many other emotions it’s a surprise we make it through life at all.

If you want a book that hits you hard, if you want a book to break you apart then put you back together again, When Forever Changes is a book you need to read.

I have no idea how to rate this. Because I fucking hated it. Yet, the author wrote a compelling story. But I still fucking hated it. I wish I hadn’t read this. Therefore, I have to give it a one star.

I hate crying. I didn’t sign up for this shit. When I read a book by this author, I expect happy alpha male possessiveness with a healthy side of drama. Not Nicholas fucking Sparks.

New edit: It’s 2023 and I don’t think I’ve read this author since. I don’t know if that’s because I’m still upset about this book or because she’s mostly writing reverse harem-which I’m over.

SPOILER below.

For those pissy that I said I needed a trigger warning for this book, yes, you’re right, there was one. But it didn’t cover the only trigger warning I ever need. And that is…no HEA.

“I know you love me, Belle. I don’t doubt that, but I still feel like I’m second best. I wasn’t your first choice, Dylan was, and there’s still a part of me that believes I’m only the backup plan, and it hurts. You planned your whole future around Dylan. Not me.”
This is my feeling reading this book.
But…. Its a great story!

Be prepared to get all the feels and more and have a box of Kleenex ready because it will get you!

Gabby thought her life was planned out and that Dylan would be the one that would be her past, present and future but what happens when life throws her a curve?

It started out slow at first and I got to see Dylan & Gabby's chemistry that was sweet and hot!

Slater's always had some feelings for Gabby yet he's never made it know. When Gabby goes through one of the toughest times in her life Slater is there for her. And while he knows that he needs to be there for Gabby he makes sure to not blur the line of friendship and love.

There's so much to this story that had me an emotional wreck with tears. I didn't know if I would be able to finish the book but alas I did. Be prepared. ~Kara 4 Stars

Well, I would say grab the Kleenex, but I’m thinking a roll of paper towel would be better, maybe two. Siobhan Davis has gone beyond angsty to tragically gut-wrenching, yet, once again, she delivers the true power of the human spirit to survive and thrive after getting kicked in the teeth over and over and over…

WHEN FOREVER CHANGES is that fairytale romance that becomes cursed by Fate until the evil spell is broken by a different forever. If you are looking for a book that will test your heart, scrape your soul raw and leave you in a puddle of emotions, this is it.

Highly recommended because you just never know what life has in store for you and those you love.

✔✖ My Review Check List ✖✔

AKA significant signs for a good book

Here ? When Forever Changes by Siobhan Davis
- (NOT WANTING TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN – WHICH INCLUDES CARRYING AN E-BOOK READER LITERALLY EVERYWHERE I GO, ALLNIGHT READING SESSIONS AND SNEAKING OUT OR IN PLACES INCLUDING TOILETS TO READ A FEW PAGES)
✔ - that’s a yes

- (TALKING WITH YOUR BOOK – NOMATTER WHERE YOU ARE AND WHO IS WATCHING YOU)
✔ - you do not want to know what I looked like while reading

- (CRYING AND/OR LAUGHING - -OUT LOUD- NOMATTER WHERE YOU ARE)
✔ - another yes – and a lot more - but I will get to that in my Esscense of this book.

- (THE INTENSE FEELING OF WANTING TO PUNCH OR HUG A VIRTUAL CHARACTER IN REAL LIFE)
✔ - PUNCHING – yeah that was on my mind mostly

- (REMEMBERING THE PLOT/ THE AUTHOR / THINGS AND/OR CONVERTING CONTENT TO YOUR REAL LIFE)
✔ - OH YES believe me that author is now on my list … on the list of authors to be very careful when starting a book. As she draws you in – keeps you there only to torture you with well developed stories and real characters. Don’t worry - Dear Author you have famous company on that list … Colleen Hoover, Jojo Moyes, Katy Evans, etc. ….. so actually almost all of my favorite authors are there. SO yes it is not a bad place to be but its also def. not the place for fluffy readings….

My Essence ?
Honestly ? I had no idea what I would be getting myself into when I agreed to read this book. I could give you a book to compare that feeling but to many people would directly know where the plot is heading so I refrain from that – actually it would be two books that I am thinking of now …
I already read two books of this author and both were solid 5 star reads so I think it is safe to say that I assumed that this book two would be a SOLID star read …

And when I reached a certain point where I found myself thinking – wow the plot never gave any indication that this would happen I actually went back to check the plot. While rereading I thought what a clever writing that Blurb was – as suddenly anything in there could also be read and understood in a way that it DID actually meet the story only I would have never understood it in that way before.

Now – after I finished the book I am at a loss – I thought I had an idea what this was about when I read the Blurb but no … this book is like the best and the worst of all the well-known books of the last years out there in that genre….

And with “worst” I do not mean writing style or anything but the PLOT itself and I also do not mean it …. Gosh - Well how do I explain it ….actually “worst” is probably the wrong word – its more the worse that you use if you ask someone how he is feeling …

I had several stages during reading so without going into the spoiler section let me describe it like :
A love story that goes wrong – you connect to the characters and you start to like them but already from the Blurb you know something is going to happen. The words in the book show you a certain direction but ONE line showed me something else because I had an experience in that area from another book.

Still the obvious signs made me dislike the male lead Dylan – but that was obviously what the author wanted. So I started to look between the lines and I started noticing where this is going – and from there on it was like a train wreck waiting to happen – like watching the movie Titanic.

I knew what was happening – I was hoping – I was begging – I was cursing – I was hating – oh yeah and lets not forget the crying …. And during all that time I wanted to stop reading because If I did not read it I wouldn’t know if I was right and it would be like nothing happened. But did I stop ? obviously not….

If I would have a complain about this book than it would be – that this book felt to real. I bet you would never have guessed that I was ever going to write a line like that. Yeah me neither ….
Life itself is messy and this plot is not different. Lines were blurred in that plot – lines that are hard limits to me and forced me to stop several books in the past but here ? Here they felt more gray then black because I somehow knew (not going into that) …...

The question I asked myself the most was “why did nobody notice” but the characters themselves asked that question too – that took my anger and it felt like I was wondering alongside the characters – kind of lost….

The plot feels like two stories woven into each other so they fit perfectly like a glove. But my love for this plot is only within one string of this story. One plot string I would have loved to rewrite because ….. (insert curse word) I needed it to be different. And the other I would have probably never finished reading because of the hard limit. But it is what it is – this plot feels real and I can not punish it for that – just because I would have liked a fairytale.

I know I am rambling and this review has no structure but to me it is honestly just like that book left me – ALL OVER THE PLACE….

So what is this book. As it ticked of all the right places in my Review Check list – it should be a 5 star read and I will rate it as such but still something in the back of my mind will remain. Which again will ensure that I will keep a close Eye on this authors next books. So in total this author did everything right ….

2.5 'I'm being generous' stars.

It's hard to be fully invested in a book when you end up thinking the heroine is an idiot and you don't like her all that much.

I don't even think I'm very interested in reading Ryan's story because if this is an indication of the drama and angst (manufactured and unnecessary), then it's not my thing.

5 I’m sobbing my heart out in a good way stars ⭐️
What a Rollercoaster this was! So many emotions!!! I had the plot figured out about 30% into this book and I didn’t want to continue because I knew it was gonna get bad but it was like watching a train wreck...you couldn’t take your eyes away and I couldn’t stop reading.
I haven’t sobbed over a book in a couple months so this was needed. I think I needed some soul crushing to get me out of my slump!
Gabby and Dylan had loved each other since they were children and when we start out you really believe that this is that “forever” love, and it is just not in the way that you think.
Slater loved Gabby as long as Dylan did unbeknownst to her. Later on she realizes that she has probably loved him that long as well.
What do you do when you are in love and have the unyielding love of two different men👀🤷🏼‍♀️😭
This is the cluster that Gabby finds herself in.
I have many feelings about Dylan, I loved him then i hated him and then i totally loved him again♥️he wasn’t swoon worthy like Slater but he was so unbelievably sweet and the love he had for her was so beautifully written.
I loved Slater from the minute he walked on the scene. He was everything you want in a hero. He was selfless, sweet, loving, handsome and very blunt. He put aside his feelings for her and in the end it was the best thing he could have done!
The things that Gabby had to endure was so painful but she was a true heroine here! She took what fate threw at her and made the best out of it without batting an eye. She took the brunt of the hurt and my heart broke for her. She got that HEA though and it was well deserved !!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and i really enjoyed it. It was a total 5 star read for me! I will definitely be reading more!!!!
Angst⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cheating yes but read the book😉
Sexy Time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Epilogue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😭😭😭

I am warning you my review contains spoilers.

A good story. Bit predictable, if you pick up on the clues there are no real surprises.
Dylan and Slater both grew up with Gabby along with other friends in the gang but they were both in love with her.
Gabby only ever had eyes for Dylan and he got the girl. They are blissfully happy and plan to be together forever.

Things start to be not so good, Dylan is moody, stressed and there are little clues he could be cheating, or at least flirting with other women but Gabby struggles to accept that as he's not the cheating type and is so devoted to her.
He also suffers from debilitating migraines.
I thought it was obvious this point he has some sort of brain issue/illness.
She finds out he has been messing about with other women then witnesses it herself.
He is extremely hurtful and humiliated her several times.
They eventually break up after giving each other space but finding him still cheating.

She and Slater get together then after some time she finds out she's pregnant, but they are shocked to discover she's too far for the baby to be Slaters, it's Dylan's.
I had guessed this as there are clues as she's had issues with her periods which is mentioned around the time of the breakup.

I didn't understand Slater calling it off so she can go back to the baby's father, if he needed a bit of space to get his head together yes, but why he'd think it was a good idea for her to try to get back with Dylan after the way he's treated her is beyond me. He does rethink his actions later but....

Dylan reveals he has an inoperable brain tumour and is dying and it affected his behaviour, hence the cheating.
He's always loved her and wanted a future with her.
I admired that although she loved Dylan and said she forgave his previous actions she never slept with him again, partly because she loves Slater but also because of the betrayal.
She and Slater eventually get their HEA but only after she grieves properly, around 2 years.
Ex drama.
HEA.
Epilogue.
No cheating for the heroine though sort of love triangle.
There are intimate scenes between Gabby and Dylan when they are together then later Gabby and Slater when they get together so if you are not keen on intimate scenes with anyone other than the one main couple that might be an issue.

Also the initial Hero, Dylan cheats, though no sex detailed we are told he was having sex with at least one other woman, it's only refered to, he is kissing, grinding etc another woman at a club, even if it is due the brain problem if you can't tolerate cheating it might be an issue for you.

It is an angsty emotional read, the author pulls at the heart strings but I did find it a bit predictable, no real surprises.

There were side characters, some future storylines hinted at and some that I think have already been written and I may well check those out.

What do you do when you had your entire life mapped out and suddenly everything you thought was true isn’t and the future you had foreseen in your mind’s eye is completely shattered? Siobhan Davis adds When Forever Changes to her angsty and dramatic contemporary romance collection with the story of Gabby and the twists and turns life throws at her before she can find her happily ever after.

Gabby had loved Dylan since she was ten years old and thought he’d be her everything until he irrevocably broke her heart not once, but twice. But Gabby had an incredible support system surrounded by an adoring and caring family and equally supporting friends. And there was one among the latter who’d do anything for her, including giving her a second chance at true and forever love.

Vague much? Yes! But adhering to a spoiler free review in this case requires me not to deviate much from what the summary mentions. Yes, there are reviews out that mention and say much more. Not this one. What I can say is that Davis has become adept at creating characters with tortured lives that ramp up the drama.

From the book’s description and by reading the first few chapters I was pretty sure who Gabby would end up with. The how though, was a whole lot of potholes Gabby had to face and survive. There were a couple of twists I couldn’t get on board with and Gabby’s reactions had me wanting to do the exact same thing Slater told her: “I want to bang your head against the wall and eradicate all stubbornness and stup1d1ty from your brain.” I loved the supporting characters and hero, even though he was patient and understanding to a fault.

When Forever Changes standalone new adult romance by Siobhan Davis. It is an angst-filled, heartbreaking read, told from both points of view with a happy ending.

When Forever Changes is one of the most emotional books I’ve ever read. This book broke me over and over again. I was in tears for most of it, so if be warned this may not be the best book to read in public.

The synopsis paints the picture of a typical relationship gone wrong new adult story, but When Forever Changes is so much more. If you’ve ever read a Siobhan Davis novel, you know that she shines when she gets into the nitty-gritty of her character’s emotions and relationships. When Forever Changes follows Gabby as her world is turned upside down when her and who she thought was her soul mate break up leaving irreparable damage.

When Forever Changes begins in the middle of a flourishing relationship that made me question the synopsis. However, once the story finds its pace it does not let up until the last page. Gabby goes through a whirlwind of emotions throughout the novel and Davis’ writing ensures that readers suffer the same fate. Readers will feel every emotional beat throughout the story with the same unrelenting intensity that these emotions would invoke in real life.

It’s hard to review this book since it’s one of those books you should read without knowing too much about it. Emotional, angsty, new adult romance is the perfect description for When Forever Changes. So, if you’re looking for a reading experience that will break you at every twist and turn of the novel, When Forever Changes should be the first on your TBR pile.

"Can you go on living when your heart is irrefutably broken beyond repair?" "How can you move forward when all you want to do is go back?" What happens when your perfect life falls to pieces, when your perfect guy fails you, when the life you had planned is no more?

Gabby, Dylan, Slater. These three characters moved me on a level I can't properly express. I fell in love, I was moved to tears, I was infuriated. I saw a sliver of light, happiness returned but it was fleeting. Then I was gutted. Truly sad. Absolutely destroyed. And finally, once again I was transported back to happiness. Emotionally exhausted but so content!

The Queen of Angst has written her best book to date. I connected with these characters, I believed their story, I believed in them. I read this book through glassy eyes, with a lump in my throat and my stomach in knots. I physically ached. I consumed the book; it consumed me. It's intense, powerful, heart-wrenchingly beautiful. It stayed with me long after the final page. Days later, it still lingers. If you enjoy a book that makes you feel every last drop of emotion in your being, this is a must-read.

It’s funny how when you read a book, everyone comes away from it feeling differently or affected differently than everyone else. I read this book as a buddy read with Amber Hodges, a beautiful hearted person that I feel I got to know even better through this buddy read. She’s my chicky friend. Well, Amber and I had different feelings about this book when we finished. We both cried our hearts out, but for different reasons. Thanks for the buddy read, chicky friend, I enjoyed reading it with you so much! And thanks for putting up with all my ranting, raving, gushing, etc...comments. Poor Amber. She’ll probably never do another buddy read with me again!!

Ok..now about the book our wonderful, awesome, talented Siobhan Davis, wrote for us to read. The woman truly knows how to open her heart and bleed her words on to the pages. It’s the most beautiful experience there ever was. If you haven’t had a Siobhan Davis experience, you’re missing out.

For me the experience of the book was of a boy who loved a girl since he was very young, and she was younger, and she never took notice because she was in love with some one else. Heartbreaking...totally.

His name was, Slater. Her name was Gabrielle. But he called her Belle, and was the ONLY one who did. She was obsessed with Beauty and the Beast when she was little, and Slater used to tease her saying she wanted to be Belle for access to the library. But he was only partly right. She did daydream about being Belle, but she was no different than any young girl her age, and she wanted to be her for the prince. Not the books! Anyway, the name stuck, and Slater called her Belle ever since then.

She dated this other boy she loved, Dylan, for many years, until in college he began to change and they broke up. Her family was there for her, she had an amazing family. I really loved her family. And her brother Ryan, who she was very close to had her move in with him. Now Slater is Ryan’s best friend, has been since childhood, and a member of the family. He is one of Ryan’s roommates too. Slater wants to be there for Belle too.

"You’ll find someone amazing, Belle. Someone who sets your world on fire. Someone who appreciates how beautiful and special and intelligent and caring you are, and he’ll be the luckiest bastard because he’ll get to spend the rest of his life with you in it."

So Belle starts to realize she has feelings for Slater. Feelings that maybe were always there, but she didn’t notice because she was so in love with Dylan at the time. So they fall head over heels in love. So much passion, so much love.

“I’d do anything for you, Belle. Anything." Slater was loyal, devoted and totally in love with Belle. She meant the world to him.

Then there was news. Seemed like great news.
Then there was a tragedy.
Everything spiraling for Slater.

Can I just say I cried buckets for Slater....for SLATER!!! Yes, you heard me right!! It’s funny, but he is the character I identified with throughout this story.
And this is a long story. This isn’t one of your ok this happens, then this, then they lived happily ever after. Lol! This could have easily been two books full of DRAMA!!! When I say drama, I mean HEAVY DRAMA, EMOTIONAL, CRYING, SOBBING!!!!! Like I say, for me it was for Slater. But for someone else it could, and MOST LIKELY would have been for someone else!!!

After all is said and done about the crying, and who is crying for who. The thing of it is, the beauty of this story. Siobhan took to writing and opened her heart and poured it out and wrote a story that could affect us in this way. That could make some people cry for some characters and other people cry for other characters. I know she didn’t plan this, but when she opened her heart and bled on the paper, this is what happened. If she planned it too much, it wouldn’t have worked out this way.

This has been the hardest review I have ever written. I hope it’s not all over the place.

I highly recommend all Siobhan’s work!

I would like thank Siobhan Davis for my copy of the ARC. Due to this kind gesture, I have decided to leave an honest review.

Woooow I don't really know what to type! I love Siobhan's writing, there hasn't been a series yet of hers that I haven't liked! Did I like this one as much as her other books, no but god damn it had me in tears.

Dylan is Gabby's forever guy, she has been best friends with him from such a young age then eventually in their early teens end up together and they absolutely worship each other. Both of them are in full swing of college life but suddenly the forever guy she knew starts to change, can she ever recover from the heartache he causes or is there something deeper and darker?

Okay, so the book wasn't perfect. Halfway through I found it extremely wordy and got a little bored so I skim read for a bit but then it caught me again. Was it predictable? A little at first but who doesn't love the good ole cliche stories! Was I prepared for how hot under the collar this was?! Absolutely not! Gabbs got a little freak in there she wants to let out!

Did I connect with any characters? Not really at first, I was wondering why Ryan was slobbering over his sister's cheek all the time as I get people are close (I'm close with my brother) but we don't hug and kiss each other's cheeks every time we meet! I did, however, find a soft spot for Dylan and Slate. Dylan had his ups and downs but when you think of everything he has done he had you swooning over his romantic ways. Slater was an absolute sweetheart from start to finish and he will have many fanning themselves.

The book had me in floods of tears, as soon as I would stop I would start crying again I was like Jesus please make this stop. It wasn't the cute little girly tears running down the cheeks I was actually proper making sobbing noises with my face covered in red blotches thinking how heartbreaking this was. My dad actually asked me what I was crying at and told him it was a book, he was like you get its fiction right?! DAD IM STILL NOT OVER THE ORIGINALS FINALE AND THIS BROKE ME!!!

I do like cliche books, especially after I have been reading a lot of YA sci-fi or fantasy, it sorts of reminds me how much I love to watch chick flicks and believe me this book would actually make one hell of a movie!!

I do believe it deserves 3 and a half stars just for the sheer fact I was a bubbling mess for half of it!

3 Stars is still good. It means I LIKED IT =D

After sampling more than a handful of books and having nothing hold my interest, When Forever Changes was exactly the page-turner I needed. I really enjoyed the first half of the story. I was intrigued by the characters, especially by Slater. I couldn't wait to see what role he would play in Gabby's life and where it would all lead. I was hooked. There were certain events that spiked high on my angst-o-meter. Oh my angsty heart! However, I was disappointed by the MCs' decisions in the second half of the book. It dragged in parts too and I was frustrated by the push and pull between Slater and Gabby. I normally eat up that kind of drama but in this case, I really wanted to shake some sense into these two. It just didn't work for me. Now that I've finished the book, I realize I didn't like Gabby's personality much. I loved Slater even though at one point I was extremely put off by one of his decisions (I promised myself I wouldn't rant about this). Needless to say, it cost him lots of brownie points. I also think there were too many convenient scenarios. The timing was always too perfect and unbelievable. Shame on me for making a fuss about things like that but I'm sorry, it was too obvious. Basically, I wasn't as invested towards the end and rushed to finish. Still, despite my loss of interest, I couldn't help but cry in one particular poignant scene. It was written beautifully and pulled at my heart-strings. So very devastating. I might not have enjoyed every aspect of the story but I still liked the writing in general and will be checking out the author's other books.

"This is a clusterfuck of epic proportions." Gabby's words, not mine but nevertheless, take heed:

There are stories that pull you in and grip you so tight that you cannot get up until you know how it ends. For me this book did just that. Truly unputdownable.

This story is not just a love story it is life story. It chronicles the life of a young woman and the loves of her life. Her forever is set and she knows her path, all she has hoped and dreamed as been mapped out. Yet life is funny that way, sending us though a series of twists and turns that ultimately alter our forevers. The characters of this story go through some serious experiences. The extremes of love, heartbreak, sickness, new life being born. And through it all, the one constant throughout, is the depth of the family. The true backbone in the story.

Siobhan Davis delivers a brilliantly crafted story of life changing events that change our course in the most unconventional way. Tears will be shed, your heart will ache and sing with joy. You are destined to feel every emotion while reading this truly unique book.

As much as I found this book "eye-roll worthy", it somehow managed to tear me up! Ugh.

Gabby is a 19 year old college student who's been with the "love of her life", Dylan, for years. For some reason, he's suddenly changed and repeatedly cheats on her, but gives the bullshit excuse that he still loves her irrespective of all that. They break up and she's soon enamored with Slater, her brother's best friend, who's always held a torch for her in the hopes that she finally notices him. Soon enough their lives flip with the reveal of "sensitive information" and Gabby has to decide where her heart belongs.

To be honest, this whole "sensitive information" was like a telenovela reveal. I mean it's so crazy when things add up and you're suddenly like "WTF"! The book was corny AF but I guess it weirdly worked out and damn I still can't believe I got emotional! I also loved how Gabby had to work hard to finally be with the one she loved because tbh she had it easy initially. On the whole, a cute read..but...

Stories like this are the reason why Siobhan Davis is one of my favorite authors- an author so versatile that she can write all genres, all tropes, from gritty reverse harem and high drama mafia to the ultra angsty, heartaching, soul tearing love stories. And oh my is this the latter. When Forever Changes is a story that squeezes the heart so exquisitely, you may never breathe the same again. The anguish, the heartache, the swoon, the hope, and oh yes, some ugly crying- it’s a story beautiful in its turmoil, effortlessly emotive and entirely consuming.

I won’t say much about the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything, but hang on for a wildly emotional narrative. Second chances, best friends to lovers, love triangles, drama, past and present challenges- there’s so much complexity. Like love itself, Siobhan weaves a story that is full of contrasts. Beauty and pain, turmoil and authenticity, devastation and hope. Sioban chronicles the highs and lows of living and loving through these complicated by dynamic characters, who are also just learning to grow up, who are figuring out living and loving in so many heart-hurting ways. As usual, Siobhan captures our hearts with these characters, and with the right dash of foreshadowing and tonal foreboding we just know twists and heartaches are coming. And come they do. You’ll scream, you’ll cry, you’ll love and be frustrated by these characters in equal measure. But like always Siobhan’s creative brilliance brings us exactly where we were meant to be- each moment, each world, each feeling perfectly placed for just the right reason. But hold on to your hearts, this is NOT an easy love story- and one that had blasted tears running down my face multiple times before I turned the last page. And these characters, well each and everyone one will stay with you. Especially our heroine Gabby, my love for her lasted through every up and down, through all the mistakes, frustrations, and healing.

This story will break your heart- so may times. But trust in Siobhan to piece it back together in the end. The emotional gauntlet is worth every agonizing moment- because even with a fractured heart, love is what shines in the end.

Gabby and Dylan have their whole future planned out. Friends as children to dating by the age of 15 years-old, the two are in college and know that their futures will always include each other. Until it doesn’t. Oh my goodness! I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s just say that I love this author’s style of writing Goodreadsand she has a way of sucking you into the story. My review may seem vague because I do have much to say, but I don’t want to give any spoilers.

When Forever Changes is told mostly from Gabby’s POV. We experience how much she loves Dylan and then the heart-wrenching pain she goes through. Dylan, he sounds the like most perfect boyfriend in the beginning, but then he changes. I wanted to hate him, especially in the first part of the book, but couldn’t because I just knew that there was more to his story. The others characters in the book are wonderful - especially Ryan and Slater. Slater is the guy that you just cannot help, but love. He’s a great friend, caring, supportive, and unbelievably understanding and selfless. Ryan is the best brother a girl could ever have.

The author takes you through all of the emotions - happiness, heartbreak, anger, etc. There are ups and downs and twists and turns. True to Siobhan Davis’ other books, she dives into some deep issues and throws in the unexpected. It is bittersweet as you watch how the characters go through so much to get a HEA. It is obvious that the author does a lot of research for writing her books. The storyline is unique and the characters are well developed. The author has a great way of weaving a story together and sucking you in. If you liked Incognito or Inseparable, then you will enjoy this book. Just remember to have your tissues nearby. When Forever Changes is a complete standalone with no cliffhanger.

I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Reviewed on behalf of http://bookaddict.blog,
I don’t know how to start this review, so I’m going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible because I want everyone to enjoy it firsthand as I did. This is book that pulls into the story shreds your emotions and then puts you back together. So have your tissues ready, I definitely needed them. At other times it’s uplifting and I couldn’t stop smiling.
This book deals with adult issues that draws you along with storyteller. I couldn’t put it down. Slater was so swoony you couldn’t help falling in love him, Gabrielle was so mature for age, and a great heart. This is full of families, and love from your siblings and your friends you have known from a child. This told from three Pov when necessary, and helps to give you a clearer picture. I loved this book even if my emotions were shredded. That's all from me I don't want to spoil this read for anyone else.

Wow....just heart stopping, tears flowing wow! I did not see or expect any of that and I am utterly an emotional mess! I don’t want to delve to deep, this is a book that I don’t want to spoil because it needs to be experienced fully! I will say that you need tissues, lots of them. Just know that your heart will be mended and torn into pieces a few times but at the end you will have a sense of peace and hope that wasn’t there before!

Amazing writing, a beautiful story and characters that will blow you away!

Glad Gabby didn’t get any sexually transmitted diseases from her forever man. I wasn’t buying that his illness was the cause of his cheating. I’m glad she only remained friends with him when she agreed to help him. I needed to see him be cruel to the slut. It was just eluded to. Then he pays her off to ensure gabby and their son is safe. WTF!l

Edit: the writing was top notch and this story evoked strong feeling in me. Changed my star rating from 1 to 4..

JUST WOW!

I normally don't leave reviews, but I just had to with this book. I'm a sobbing mess with total panda eyes ;). This is one of the most beautifully, tragic, triumphant stories I have read in a very long time. The story flowed flawlessly and it felt like you're physically there watching the Gabby/Dylan/Slater story unfold. So don't wait, read this book!
