Devil’s Triangle: The Complete Graphic Novel by Brian C. Hailes and Blake Casselman is the only graphic novel that I have read in 2021. Gist Miller is a junior crewmember on a salvage trawler searching for sunken treasure off the Florida Keys. As the ship moves further into the triangle, the crew experiences lots of strange spectacles and apparitions.

Overall, it was the artwork that kept me engaged. It was detailed and well done to someone that isn’t an avid graphic novel reader. Despite the action scenes, the story itself seemed somewhat lackluster and character depth was missing. I did enjoy the character drawings and backgrounds shared at the end of the novel. The illustrations raised this to a 3 star read for me.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher and author in a Goodreads Giveaway This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. The publication date was August 3, 2015.

Review of eBook

Gist Miller and the crew of the salvage trawler, “Monte Cristo,” search for sunken treasure with Captain Starling. But as they move further away from the Florida Keys, they begin to experience strange events. Visited twice by a ghostly young woman begging him for help, Gist tries to explain to the others, but pirates attack and take everyone hostage.

And then the terror begins . . . .

=========

The spectacular black-and-white artwork for this dark tale is simply amazing, detailed, and realistic. The story has some interesting twists and, although there’s quite a bit of jumping off a ship and into the ocean, the story fits right in with the legends and myths surrounding the Devil’s Triangle.

Along with the story, there’s a short graphic piece that gives the background for Mahan, the villain of the story. Also included are background pages for each of the characters central to the story and a series of gorgeous full-color cover art illustrations.

Recommended, especially for readers who enjoy graphic novels.

Super action-packed and tense!!

I think the pacing could be a tad bit slower just to get us oriented with the world, as it feels a little too much anything-could-go for too long in my opinion. Also, I found myself wishing we knew a little more about the characters' interactions especially with the Captain as a father-figure. But really, this is clearly not supposed to be about character emotions. It's about scary monsters, and cool action scenes, and THAT is super high-stakes and engaging, which is effective for this length as-is.

Also, the art style is SO cool. It's really realistic and detailed, and there's clearly a TON of work and effort put into the shading and fight scenes and such. I read this more slowly just to try to absorb all the detail, great work there!!

Thank you to author Brian C. Hailes for this FREE Kindle copy ofDevil's Triangle.

A fun read. All of the graphics here are wonderfully rendered. I have to chuckle though - from super heroes to seafaring tar, there is an incessant need to put women in heels. Eiy lassie, put on them heels and go harpoon that there whale! A good read.

I loved this graphic novel, the art was beautifully done and was a way to keep me inside the book, I was engaged the whole read. I love natural thrillers, anything involving ocean dives, adventure, this book was all of that. I thoroughly enjoyed this, I carry say enough how I much I enjoyed looking at the graphics in this book. Well done!!

Has a feel somewhere between old-timey action comics and '80s B-movie. The art is good, and the story keeps your interest. The characters are a bit bland, and sometimes it feels like a few panels got skipped. Overall a fun read.

I received a free copy of this ebook via a Goodreads giveaway. Thankfully I didn't pay anything for this book. The art was okay? Some panels were fine others made it hard to tell who was saying what. And there was no plot or world building whatsoever.

First, the artwork is gorgeous! This graphic novel was six years in the making, and it shows. The faces are clearly drawn, and stay recognizable from panel to panel - something that isn't always true of graphic novels. The ships were all detailed, and couldn't be mistaken for each other which is a good thing because there was a lot of boat hopping.

I can't say enough about how refreshing it is to look at the art because it's good instead of squinting at it because I can't figure out what I'm looking at.

The story is good, especially at the beginning when there are more questions than answers. As the story progressed, though, it got more confusing in places. And repetitive. Too many scenes of the characters jumping into the water, getting to a new ship, having to escape again...

Still not quite sure what happened at the end. I might have to read it again (no hardship!) to try and figure out what I missed. Overall, I enjoyed it.

An intense Adventure through the Bermuda Triangle mythology

Six (6) years in the making (due mainly to the painstaking detail in the numerous illustrations), this fully-illustrated original graphic novel began as a six-issue finite series, culminating in an over-arching story that reads more like a full feature than a serial. With 170+ fully-illustrated pages, this is an all-immersive story into the terror, suspense, and mystery of real-life accounts and embellished fantasy into Devil's Triangle lore. So hold onto your seats and welcome the supernatural, because this is a thrill-ride into nostalgic, horrific, 1980s sci-fi adventure at its best!
