Mr. Mysterious

Rate this book
Paxton Vance isn’t as cryptic as he thinks. That broody nature and tough-guy exterior aren’t fooling me one bit.

I know everything about him. I listen in on his most personal phone calls. I read his mail before he does. I even know what his mother got him for Christmas last year.

You’re the man of my dreams, Paxton Vance. You just don’t know it yet.

But don’t worry, I’ll remind you. I’m here to give you everything you need, before you know you need it.

So don’t get defensive because I take a challenge seriously. You have to open up to someone, and that someone is me.

Besides, you can’t stay Mr. Mysterious forever. Why play the game if you never want to win?

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

“One day I was great… Just doing my thing. And then.. this perfect fucking princess walked into my life.”

Mr. Mysterious is book 4 in Huss’s Mister series. As this series continues, we find out more about what really happened that night with the Misters, the things that tie them together, and of course- in real Julie fashion, there are twists and turns along the way.

Paxton Vance is the guy in the group we don’t know much about. He’s labeled ‘Mr. Mysterious’ for a reason. The only person that knows a lot about Paxton is his mother. And Cinderella. Cinderella pops into his life when he least expects it. He may have no clue who she is, but she seems to know a heck of a lot about him.
“Paxton, do you always have to ask so many questions? Why are you so clueless? We are soulmates. Get it? This is fate slapping your face.I’m fate.”

I loved the connection these two had and I absolutely loved Cindy. She’s definitely my favorite heroine so far from this series. As much as I liked Vance, Cinderella totally stole the show. I love her persistence and drive. She was exactly the kind of woman a man like Pax needs. They were fantastic together.

My favorite thing about these books is how they always keep me guessing. There are always surprises, twists, turns and I never know whats going to happen. As things come together, everything fits like the perfect intricate puzzle. Each piece matters and goes perfectly with the one next to it.

Not only are these books sexy and suspenseful, they have a great element of friendship and family. The next book in this series, Mr. Match… OMFG. I can’t even tell you how excited I am. I’m dying waiting for this one. DYING. This series has been one great book after the other. I can’t wait to see how Julie concludes this series and how everything fits together in the end!

So let’s just get this out of the way, shall we?

Every JA Huss Book surprises the heck out of me, blah blah blah blah, I should have learned by now that nothing is ever as it seems!

Mr. Mysterious is the fourth standalone in the Misters Series and although books one through four can all be read independently and in any order, Mr. Match (book five, out in December) is the conclusion to the FULL story that we’ve been getting crumbs of throughout this journey.

Ten years ago five college students were accused of rape. Ten years ago the woman pointing the finger was dead and all charges were dropped. Ten years ago, Mr. Match made a call and Five strolled in with a plan and instructions to shut. The. Fuck. Up. Ten years later, three Misters have been paired with the Misses of their dreams and their pasts are coming back to fuck them up. Now it’s time for Mr. Mysterious to meet his Mrs. and to wait and see what is coming his way.

Can I just freak out about baby-bomb? OMG. I love, love, love that this is who ends up with Paxton. Cinderella “Cindy” Shrike is all grown up and she knows exactly what she wants. The man that she’s been obsessed with since she was a teenager. But Cindy is ALL grown up and is ready to get her Mister.

Paxton Vance was a breath of fresh air. What I expected was this dark and dangerous man (see James) and what I got was this guy who had his whole life turned upside down by some false charges and never fully gets to escape what he was accused of. But once Cindy stalks into his life and makes herself at home, Pax is given a chance at something bigger than what he has. Something more than just an old charge, a dead girl and a mystery of what has haunted these five men for the last ten years.

JA Huss gives us more clues to what is at the center of all of this, but still holds every card close. Whatever you thought was happening, HA! What a joke, not even close. Everything you think is going to happen? YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

For fans of this author, fans who have read ALL the books, you are going to love the little nuggets we get. From the mentions of Ford, Spencer, Ronin and all the FANCY FUCKS your little heart desires, you will be in Huss heaven.

I can’t wait for Mr. Match’s book. I can’t wait to see this man, to see how he compares to his father. How hard he’s going to fall for his Mrs and how much hell he and his TEAM are going to rain down on whoever is behind all of it.

I didn't like this book.

This story makes very little sense. I don't understand how or why the two main characters fell in love. The romance is not believable and the plot isn't either.

So the romance consist basically on this: Cinderella became obsessed with Paxton when she was a teenager. There is no explanation or connection told to us for this to have happened, but still I can believe that part. From then on she becomes a stoker, learning everything about him until one day appears into Paxton's life without any prompting or reason. Paxton, initially rejects her craziness, because, duh, she is insane! But, after a short while of her openly stoking him, he gives into her and becomes obsessed right back. From there, we go to them living and working together, because why not? he doesn't know the girl, but she is adorable, he knows she is lying to him and that she stoked him, but hey, he wants her, she is beautiful; to meeting his mother, to being in love. WTF!! This is sick, it is not romantic, it is unhealthy and it is absurd.

The plot behind the "romance" is incoherent and has no resolution, it feels random and very poorly done. It looks like it has very little thought put into it. It has different things thrown into it to make it mysterious, when in truth it ends up being a mishmash of vague ideas.

Therefore, between the questionable romance and the well below par plot, we have a story that is a garbled mess.
What is more, once again, we find in this installment a background of sexism coupled with subtle old fashion feministic vindication that leaves a bad taste for me. The whole thing feels wrong.

I do not recommend this book.

Once upon a time, there was this girl who decided to read this book called Tragic and ever since then she became obsessed. Yes, obsessed. You see, she decided to stalk the author. Who wouldn’t want to stalk an author named JA “Motherfucking” Huss. So fast forward to several books later, this girl once again became obsessed with another series that features five Misters. Yeah, think of it as J.A.’s version of Prince Charming. All different, unique, sexy, and appealing in their own way. Slowly, she was able to pair off the Misters to their fated Missus. With three misters living their own version of happily for now, JA decides it’s time to treat her readers to her own fairy tale version. So yeah, JA “Motherfucking” Huss had to put her signature stamp of brilliance of unexpected surprises and twist and turns. Hence, Mr. Mysterious got his own Disney ending, well not exactly but he did end up with Cinderella. Cinderella Shrike, to be exact so you can’t say that JA didn’t give you a fairy tale ending. It’s just Mr. Mysterious is a different kind of Prince Charming and this Cinderella, is no damsel in distress. Instead she is a bomb. Baby Bomb, to be exact.

#Mr.Mysterious (1)

Paxton Vance aka Mr. Mysterious isn’t as mysterious as he thinks. Well, not really since Cinderella Shrike was able to dig inside information on Pax. Well, more like she stalked Paxton Vance. Why would she do that? Cinderella was obsessed with Pax and that’s putting it mildly. She already knew that they were meant to be. He was her Prince Charming and he just needed the right push and direction...towards her. She didn’t need him to rescue her but instead this Cinderella wanted to be the one to rescue him.

photo cf51c200f12647fa0a976a33be43c2_zpsa0vqxhnq.gif “And she’s not going to fade away, you guys. She’s not a fade-away kind of girl. She’s going to fight. You have no idea how much fight that girl has.”

#Mr.Mysterious1

Cinderella initiated contacted with Paxton. She made sure Pax was well aware of who she is. Well not really, she did leave the tidbit out that she was Oliver Shrike’s baby sister. While leaving out some important details, she was able to challenge Paxton and seduce him with her witty and sassy personality. And of course, Pax couldn’t help but be drawn to her bombshell sexual appeal. He was intrigued by Cinderella. She was sexy, smart, badass, and of course mysterious. It was like for the first time, he met someone who understood him emotionally, physically and sexually. Their connection was electric. It was pulsating, radiating, and brimming with an abundance of lust, passion and love.

photo cf51c200f12647fa0a976a33be43c2_zpsa0vqxhnq.gif “He fixes things. He hides the dirt, sweeps it under the rug, and makes everything go away. But his own problem has never been fixed. Never cleaned up. And he hates the fact that he has put that smudge on his mother’s pristine family name.”

In the backdrops of their sexual escapades, Paxton and the rest of the Misters were still trying to figure out who is after and targeting them. Pieces of the puzzle begins to unravel when mysterious envelopes were being delivered to their specific recipients. But what happens when danger begins to not only threaten Paxton but also Cinderella? Will Paxton be able to save his Sugar Princess? And of course, how will Oliver Shrike react when he discovers his best friend is in a relationship with his baby sister? Will Paxton be forced to choose between his best friend or his girl?

#Mr.Mysterious2

Mr. Mysterious was just perfect. This book was a sexy blend of intrigue, suspense, passion, and of course had JA’s signature stamp of the unexpected. From the opening page to the very last page, Julie delivered a story that was highly entertaining. With her sexy prose, Julie held us hostage as readers are thrown into a whirlwind of mystery as we try to discover and see the bigger picture. While romance was still in the forefront, Julie still maintained the suspense and mystery aspect of each installment as pieces of the puzzle comes into light. There was nothing that I would change about this fourth installment. The characters were a riot and each played their integral part in the story line. But I will admit, I have major love for Paxton, Cinderella, Oliver, Ford and Ariel. So if you are looking for story that has a symphony of heat, passion, mystery, and a riot of entertainment then Mr. Mysterious might be the book for you but I would highly recommend you to pick up the rest up of the Misters. Why settle for one Mister when you can have them all?

photo cf51c200f12647fa0a976a33be43c2_zpsa0vqxhnq.gif “Prince Charming is gonna deliver the fairy tale to his sweet-smelling Cinderella. Whether she wants it or not.”

And by the way, JA Huss endings are way better than the Disney’s happily ever after because in this fairytale ending, Cinderella doesn’t need a glass slipper but instead she just need Mr. Mysterious' magical tongue and appendage.

★★★ 3.5 Stars ★★★

Number four in the series, Mr Mysterious AKA Paxton Vance finds himself embroiled in a lustful affair with a mystery woman named Cinderella.

Cindy knows everything about Pax, she is his very own stalker, and she wants him for herself and won't stop at anything to get her prize.

Pax has been a complete mystery throughout this series, and finally we get to know the real him- he was nothing like what I was expecting, he was gentle and caring, a mummy's boy, and a normal everyday guy, a complete opposite to his mysterious badass persona.

My main disconnect was the insta-love and the many, many secrets that are starting to get revealed, and to be honest, I didn't know whether I was coming or going! This book was crazy, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I still enjoyed it and I can't wait for all the loose ends to come together.

Whilst this was my least favourite of the series, it sets us up perfectly for the last book - Mr Match, who just so happens to be the son of one of my favourite ever book heroes, Spencer Shrike.

Mr Mysterious can be read as a standalone, but it is part of an ongoing story arc. Told from dual POV.

Mr. and Mrs. Mysterious

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💚💛
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌏
Character development: 😠☺️😋😉
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Heroes: Paxton Vance (a.k.a. Mr. Mysterious) - He is a Fixer for the elite and the famous. He helps them take care of problems, big and small. He is called Mr. Mysterious because his friends never know what he is doing or much of anything about his life. Though they call him when they need something. He has a big house in Malibu that he sometimes rents out for $200,000 for a summer, but this summer he is staying there. He is the illegitimate son of a Hollywood Icon and his mother comes from Kentucky thoroughbred breeding money.

The heroine: Cindy Shrike (a.k.a. Cinderella) - She is sister to Oliver Shrike (Mr. Match) and daughter to Spencer Shrike from Spencer (Rook & Ronin, book 5). She thinks that Mr. Mysterious and her are perfect for each other and plans to get him to fall in love with her, though she doesn’t mention that she is Oliver’s baby sister. She is a private investigator with a firearms permit, has a masters degree, she own’s a sandwich shop, drives a powder blue VW bug, and is quirky and pretty and a liar.

The Story: Pax has been ordering sandwiches all summer and has been flirting with the delivery girl every time. He plans on taking it to the next level, but is surprised when she tells him they are soul mates and she plans to move in with him and become his assistant in his business. Cindy has known all about him for years, but has been biding her time before making her move.

Pax was at the top of his class his senior year at brown when that girl accused the Misters of rape and his life changed forever. He hates the fact that it dirtied up his mothers clean family name. Even though they never went to trial. Pax knows that since someone targeted Mr. Perfect, Mr. Romantic and Mr. Corporate, he is most likely next. Cinderella is determined to find out what really happened that night and to clear all their names.

I liked both of these characters from the beginning. The way Cindy got Pax’s attention was really cute and I loved how interested he was in her despite not wanting to fall for her tricks. She was a total stalker girl, but it all went just the way she wanted it to.

Much of this book takes place during the same timeframe as Mr. Corporate and Pax was a big part of some of the action in that book, so some related scenes are shown in this book from his point of view. I love the scene after he finds out that she is Mr. Match’s little sister, then goes and gets drunk on Mint Julep’s and Margarita’s. The fact that Cinderella turns the big bad Mr. Mysterious into a Mint Julep lover is so funny to me.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Sebastian York and Elena Wolfe with Rob Shapiro as Mr. Perfect. These are some of my favorite narrators. I just love Sebastian York’s gruff and gravelly deep voice and Elena has a soft and feminine voice. Both of these narrators always do a great job and this book is no different.

5 “Hear me, see me, know me.” STARS

Damn, this was just...

I'm a live-wire, raw, alive and volatile right now. I really enjoyed this one. I'd been counting down the days for Mr. Mysterious. I'd wanted Paxton Vance from the get-go. And in true Julie fashion, she surprised me! Gave me what I fucking wanted and I didn't even know it! I had visions of this dark, mysterious, broody man who was smart as a whip and sharp. I got all that but also a man who has a heart. He loves and respects his mother and has had his world shit on and turned upside down. Mr. Mysterious was exactly what I wanted!

 photo mysterious2_zpsrt6yug7j.jpg

But who stole my fucking heart? Cinderella Shrike!! Yes, I'll admit that I've a serious soft spot for anything Shrike. Spence and his Bomb are just THE bomb. And Cindy...I FLOVED her! She was hilarious, fiesty, smart and all-get-out sexy. I must declare, I have a new book girlfriend.

 photo Mysterious_zpsvgwuqrld.jpg

I was a goner for the fact that Julie brought in the Shrikes, Ford and fucking Five has been sprinkled throughout this entire series. And she even leaves bread crumbs about some serious shit concering one of the Shrike progeny that's left me hankering for answers! Like STAT!!

Pax and Cindy were sides of the same coin. And they'd alternate between playing the mysterious one or the 'play-it straight' one. These two were fantastic together!

And of course, it wouldn't be a JA Huss book if this story wasn't seriously twisted. It left me with more questions than before. I'm in desperate need of some answers. Julie, I'm totally one hot mess and so ready for Mr. Match. Game on! Well done, well done!

Mr. Mysterious is the fourth book in the Mister series and definitely my favorite so far. I am all about the Rook and Ronin series so naturally, I was all about Cinderella Shrike.

Since I absolutely loved Cindy I will start with her. Cindy pretty much stole my heart from the beginning with her hilarious stalking and awkward encounters. I was laughing out loud at the dialogue and the way she hunted down Paxton. I felt like Cindy owned this story and I just wanted more of her. She was determined you have to love a girl who goes after what she wants.

Paxton, Mr. Mysterious, is just that mysterious, but his sleuth ways were nothing for our girl Cindy. She blew his mind with just how much she knew about him and definitely kept him on his toes. Like I said, these two are easily my favorite. Their banter was top notch and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next because with Cindy you never know.

As you know Huss’s books completely keep you guessing and keep a curious reader like me eager to turn the page. With each book, the series gets more involved and the story gets deeper and deeper. I will be honest with you, it’s a lot to keep up with and I hope this last book really ties everything together. While I am all about the love story this book also has a lot of twists and turns, so fingers crossed for an epic ending.

We are so close to the end! One more book and we will finally learn what the heck is going on. This book brought more answers as well as more puzzles. I loved Pax and Cindy. I was actually expecting Pax to be darker, what with the name Mr. Mysterious, but this one was actually really funny. I loved how crazy Cindy was and how she just took over Paxs life. However, I am incredibly sad about a piece of information you learn in this one and it doesn't even involve one of the Misters so I'll leave it at that. The countdown begins for the final book in the series! ARC provided by author.

This was a disappointing love story between the most irritating woman I have ever come across and a mysterious man who should have known better.

Random Ramblings
•I LOVE the sound of the ocean
•That was one scary/creepy/odd meeting ever

•Seriously, this girl has no shame. She is starting to annoy me

•How did he find out who she was?! (and it was anti-climactic)
•Seriously, the story no longer makes sense – I am giving up on this series

Overall Feeling:

This is the fourth book in the Mr. series and follows the action packed romance between Mr. Mysterious Paxton Vance and his best friends baby sister Cinderella (Yep that really is her annoying name) and she has some weird stalkerish behaviour to go with it. This book continues with the mystery surrounding the misters and brings in the other characters from the previous books. I do really like this series its hot sex, romance, action and mystery rolled into one and the characters are very likable. The story line is intriguing but this can't be read as a stand alone book you really need to read the others in the series from the beginning or you just get lost in the story line. Narrated by the the brilliant talent of Elena Wolfe and Sebastian York.

Mr. Mysterious is yummy! Paxton is my favorite Mr. so far. I enjoyed the playful banter between him and Cinderella so much. They definitely win the cutest couple award, in my opinion.

This book took a turn I didn't anticipate and I fracking loved it. I feel like we're getting somewhere now and I'm beyond excited to see how the story ends!

Although my reviews for this series are varied, J. A. Huss has a new fan! Her writing, vibrant characters, and intriguing plots are brilliant. I've been thoroughly entertained by these books and look forward to reading more of her work in future.

Audiobook Review: The audiobook is narrated be a Dream of performers. It was perfect! Highly recommended.

4.5 Mysterious Stars

SO so many things are happening in this book, I love me some Mr. Perfect.. but Mr. Mysterious sure gives him a run for his money for being my favorite of the Misters.

So many questions I had, and still have but so much also gets answered! I am in shock right now, this book had me sucked in from the first page to the last one.

Paxton has always been a character I wanted to get to know better. I don’t know that we get to know him, that well but he sure puts his heart on his sleeve in this book.
I really enjoyed getting to know his mother in this book you can tell they are close. She is a little bit of a mystery as well. It’s no wonder Pax is the way he is.

When Cinderella aka Cindy comes in to the picture, she catches his eye right away. He wants to know more about her. So he goes about that.

Cinderella, has had a crush on Paxton from about the age of 13. She took it upon herself early to investigate him and the other Misters. She has had her father study bugged at the age of 13 so when the charges came she is in the know. Only no one knows she is… She is a sneaky one. I would even go to say even more Mysterious than Pax’s.

But I think what I liked is that he knows she isn’t who she says but he is ok to have his head buried in the sand.
He pursues her pretty hard but it’s kind of the same with her. I loved this, he chases her but really it was her plan all along.

“I’m just a girl who saw your picture on the news and got obsessed. OK? And yeah, it’s weird, and wrong, and creepy. But I’m really not any of those things. I swear it. I’m just a girl who likes a guy.”

Things sure come to a head and we find out some key pieces in the Misters story and no I am not going to give away the good stuff!
Read the book it’s so good, if you had questions in the last few books some of those questions get answered and things become clearer ... but not totally answered.. Can’t wait for the next Mister BOOK!!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

This is probably my favourite of series so far. I loved Pax and Cindy, they were super cute and weird. I will say that the "mystery" is getting a little complicated and I'm not sure about where it's going but hopefully by the end of the series everything will make sense.

Looking forward to Olivier's story next, and now I'm hoping that the rest of the Strike sibling also get books. And if Five's thing doesn't get fixed in his book I'm going on record that I'll be pissssssssed lol

5 Am I a Mrs. to a Mister Stars

I'll never understand why I'm surprised when I read a book by JA Huss. The woman is a genius. I'm pretty sure she would be the evil villain in a superhero comic or Disney movie or whatever. She creates a world you want to live in with people you wish you could know. You want to sink yourself into every single book she puts out and never leave. I know I can't be the only one who thinks this way, can I?

So, obviously this is a 5-star read for me, as is most of Huss's work. But there is something about Mr. Mysterious that pulled me in and left me wanting more. We heard of him back when we met Mr. Perfect, but we didn't really see him until Mr. Romantic hit the scene. He just kept becoming more and more important. And with the events that unfold in his story, it's clear that he may play a bigger role in that fateful night ten years ago than anyone could have ever guessed.

Or maybe he didn't. Maybe it's all a crazy set-up. Some revenge scheme that hasn't quite worked out as planned. Who knows. What I do know is that Paxton Vance has finally--finally--met his match with Cindy Shrike.

That's right. Shrike. You heard me. Shrike, as in Spencer--swoon-- Shrike's baby girl. Cindy knows all about Paxton Vance. She should, she's been stalking him for years. What started as a childhood crush very quickly becomes an obsession. But let's go back to Spencer. WTAF is Pax thinking?! Why in the hell would he hook up with a Shrike girl?
"And since you've never met Spencer Shrike, I'll just tell you right now, you do not fuck with that guy. He comes off all sweet and charming, but don't let him fool you. Mr. Shrike knows his way around a gun." Five looks at me from the corner of his eye. "And a murder charge."

Needless to say, I was more than a little excited at the sheer mention of Spencer. He is, after all, my first Huss love. And the fact he had babies with Bomb and then they named them after Disney princesses...well, let's just say he's always going to be my favorite alpha.

Cindy infiltrates Pax's life. First she is the sandwich delivery girl, then she's the surfer girl, the stalker girl, the girl who never goes away. She is persistent and sassy and everything I remember about her mother. She's a fucking bombshell--just ask Pax.

"You're definitely the bombshell version of a Disney princess."

After getting to know the other Misters, we all know that Pax had his very own role in that night that brought them all together. But what was that role? What did Pax do to land him with a rape charge at the ripe old age of 21? And why is everything coming back now? First Perfect, Romantic, Corporate, and now Mysterious. Is 10 some magic number? What does this outside force want from these men? What did it want from those college students 10 years ago. And how do the women play into it? Nothing really seems to happen to these guys until they find that special someone.

JA Huss has woven this magical, realistic world where anything can happen. If you have read her Rook and Ronin series, then you know--you just know--that she is going to blow your mind when this is all over. The truth will come out and it's going to be something no one has ever thought of. It always is with Huss. I've learned that I can guess all day long, but in the end I'm always wrong. And I'm okay with that. It isn't every day someone can hand me a book and completely throw me for a loop. I love that about a Huss book.

Oh, and there's sex. Some super hot sex. You know, in case you thought this whole book was about that rape charge from 10 years ago. It's not. I mean it is, but it's not.

"Suck my cock, take it down your throat, swallow me. And then I'm gonna fuck you until you scream."

"If you talk. If you say one word, I will lose control and this will not be anything like I've imagined it."

Cindy is the kind of woman I want to be. Or I'd at least like to be friends with her. I still have my heart set on being Ivy so I can get it on with Romantic. ;-) These men and their women have won me over. I can't believe this ride is almost finished. As excited as I am to see it all play out, I'm also sad that Match is the only book left. However, Match is bound to be fucking epic so there's that.

Hear me. See me. Know me.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy this because I did, the first half just didn't grab me quite as much as the previous three books.

My main issue was that I didn't feel that I knew either character they didn't feel consistent. Cindy was just a little too OTT, too weird and kooky at times and then suddenly she was this bad-ass, take no prisoners female. I really couldn't buy that a guy as suspicious and into shady stuff as Pax wouldn't have problems with a girl stalker turning up and claiming to be his soul mate. Man is pretty shallow if a big pair of tits is enough to distract him like that.

It was difficult to believe that Pax would ignore those blaring red alarms that "Cindy Vaughn" wasn't who she claimed to be. In the previous books he's been built up as this dangerous, dodgy, morally grey mofo so I felt rather let down to discover a soft-hearted and rather sweet momma's boy.

Once I got over this mismatch from previous books I did find myself drawn into the story - who knew 1940s detective role-play could be so hot?! We also get to know a LOT more about that back story and see the return of a few unwelcome, familiar faces.

I'm hoping Oliver's story doesn't disappoint.

4.5 mysterious stars!

This review is going to have to be vague because the mystery of the misters continues to unfold.
We'll start with Paxton..

Mr. mysterious doesn't fall in love. Everyone knows the only woman he's ever loved is his mother. Paxton is a "fixer" he fixes people's problems..whatever that may be. He never even sees Cinderella coming.

Cinderella..

Nope..def not this Cinderella ..

Cinderella shrike. (The best lastname ever). Cindy has been in love with Paxton..and full out stalking him to complete her fairy tale ending; however, She leaves out the minor detail of her last name she Pax doesn't know she's the baby bomb..aka the baby sister of Oliver Shrike (mr. Match).

That's actually all I'm going to disclose plot wise..I want to be super careful not to spoil anything..but all I'll say is the plot continues to thicken and we learn more about "that night" and the secrets behind it.

J. A. Huss is on my list of top 3 authors. I love her writing..I love her mysteries..twists and turns..and the sexy scenes! Damn that woman knows how to write a sex scene!

I wasn't a huge fan of cindys stalker instalove tendencies or the fact that Pax fell for her so quickly ..but I still completely loved it.

When I first started reading the mister series, I thought mysterious would be our grand finale because he was the most..mysterious. So bring on Oliver Shrike "mr. Match"!!!!

****3.5 STARS****

This is the 4 book of the Mr. series.Of all the covers of this series, this cover is my personal favorite. I like the guy on the cover.

In this volume, the main characters are Pax and Cindy.

Cindy is the sister of Oliver, which is the main character of the next volume, and Spencer’s Shrike daughter. Cinderella or baby-bombshell is a smart genius freak, who knows what she wants and that is the man of her life. She is very funny and is very ambitious.

Pax is the mysterious man of the group of the 5 Mr.‘s, and not in vain is called Mr. Mysterious. Pax loves his mother very much. He is an intelligent freak as well. He’s fixing everything. Cindy appears in his life like a tornado, exactly when he least expected it.
When Cindy appears in Pax’s life, I thought that she is a freak, a psycho, but after that I understood. But I did not understand Pax. His attitude and his love for Cindy are too sudden and too fast.

Off all the 5 books in this series, this one seem to me the weakest of all. I get bored. Sorry about that, but for me did not work out.For me what saved the book was the scene at the end, the action of the book.
Throughout the book, I wanted to read a book from Five‘s POV and I am very happy to know that it will be a book from his POV.

This is my favorite in the series!!! I love Cinderella, Cindy for short. Finally a woman in these books who I like! She's a perfectly written character. It's no wonder Mr. Mysterious fell head over heels. I also loved his character, he loves his mom and treats Cindy with respect. They work as equals. Love, love, love their relationship! An alpha male and an alpha female blending perfectly.

This series.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any more twisted, JA Huss messes with me and I can't even tell you how much I love that. She spins plots like a damn magician!! I'm blown away right now. The Shrikes and the Misters have to figure this shit out and they will. This doesn't end in a cliffhanger, but I can't wait to read the last of this series. I'm sure my mind will = blown again, as usual. Fucking Five.

And lemme just say, Paxton Vance is an amazing character and totally stole my heart!! Cindy Shrike is amazing and strong!! This author really knows how to write a badass character. Together, they are a super couple, both hot and swoon worthy. <3

But there's something that broke my heart. I can't say, but hang on.

Summary in case you were wondering: Loved it. Highly recommend it!

Mr. Mysterious did bring some answers, but it brought ever more questions as well!

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The Mister series becomes faster paced with a plot that thickens more with each installment! I loved Mr. Mysterious, both because I was curious about Pax, and because Cindy was such a hoot! That girl actually narrates parts of her actions as they happen :) and she had me laughing out loud. Her flirting with Pax was outrageous, but I think it was needed in order to really capture his attention. The overall plot moved forward very nicely here, but I still feel like I have more questions than answers. And that is definitely right up Ms. Huss's usual alley - to keep us all guessing up until the very last sentence.

Mr. Mysterious had a lot on his mind, and it didn't help that there was something about Cindy that was tugging at his memories. She was so much fun to be around he even decided to forego his usual thorough background check, and that just made her little slip-ups even more fun to read about. For a part of the story, Cindy and Pax were just getting to know each other better... mostly in a carnal way, and there was little interactions with the outside world. Once those interactions started, they didn't stop, though! And I love that even when the characters discovered some things, because they are so suspicious about each other, they never truly shared 100% what they thought was going on. And the readers are partly kept in the dark as well - to keep us on our toes and wanting more!

Written in first person, past tense, and from different characters' perspectives, the flow is easy, the pace quite fast, and there are so many amazing dialogues I have pages and pages of highlights I could share. I'm going to let you have the pleasure of reading Mr. Mysterious for yourself, though. Even if I will entice you with a few of my favorite quotes ;)

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

"Oliver is going to show up at Pax's house - wherever the fuck that might be - with a goddamned shotgun. Oliver's father will be there, too. And since you've never met Spencer Shrike, I'll just tell you right now, you do not fuck with that guy. He comes off all sweet and charming, but don't let him fool you. Mr. Shrike knows his way around a gun."

"You cannot date Oliver's sister," I say, snapping out of it. "No. No. This is not happening. If you even looked at my sister -"
"You don't have a sister," Five says.
"Camille counts," I say, defensive. "I'd fucking kill him if he even looked at Camille. You need to break this off, Pax. Like now. You can't date a guy's sister. It's like the number on Bro Rule. Howd' you like it if Oliver was dating your sister?"
"He doesn't have a sister," Five says.

Another winner from JAH! 5*
Arc received for an honest review but I ended up buying it for the EOBS that I can't live without!

Mr. Mysterious, book 4 of the Mister series...This book.....This series!! What a wild and crazy ride! This is a romance and mystery thriller all rolled up into a yummy tale that could have only been penned by JA Huss, an author whose books I've come to automatically pre-order as soon as they're available.

Mr. Mysterious is the story of Paxton Vance aka Mr. Mysterious and Cindy Shrike. If the last name of Shrike sounds familiar it should. Cindy aka Cinderella is the baby sister of Oliver Shrike aka Mr. Match. Oh the complications that arise by just that fact alone is enough to fill a book but there's more...much much more jam-packed into this plot that explodes with all kinds of mayhem and craziness.

What I absofreakinglutely loved about this book, other than the cray cray crazy twists and turns, is that we get a whole lot of all the Misters involved in the storyline and carryover characters from earlier books. And we get more answers that lingered from the previous books and, and, and, we get more questions too, lol! Why am I excited because there's more questions? Because that means the next book, Mr. Match is going to be stuffed full of more great and exciting and crazy crap too! What's not to love about that? Not to mention more EOBS (End of Book Shit).

I don't think I have ever been so involved in getting to the bottom of whodunit in a series before I started reading the Mister series. It's fun, it's wild, it's over the top, it's 5 stars!

This is the second time in this series (first time being Mr. Corporate) when I started with the Audible version, switched over to Whispersync so I could SEE the words as I listened to them, and realized that the voices in my head (aka: the narrators) where going too slow for my eyes so I abandoned them and let my eyes feast on the story solo. They're greedy when the story hits a certain level of goodness and I just needed to gorge myself on this tale. It was that good. This world, these characters, THE MYSTERY! It's pretty much taken over my life at this point. So even though I'm supposed to be reading like four other books right now, I may just have to forego sleep tonight and dive into Mr. Match. Or maybe I'll wait. Delayed gratification and all that. Plus I just don't want this to end :(

Fasten your seatbelt, this is going to be one heck of a roller coaster ride. Oh my Paxton Vance Swoons my heart, no one really likes Paxton AKA Mr Mysterious, he keeps his away from people. Then there's Cindy ( cinderella) these two are great together I could not put it down, when I was done I wanted more. With each book I couldn't wait for the next one, Mr. Mysterious a five star read, looking forward for reading Mr. Match.

SERIES REVIEW

You know that Pringles advert, "once you pop, you just can't stop," well that was absolutely the case with JA Huss's "Mister" series. Ok, that may be a tiny lie. You may get away with reading the first book and leaving a gap before starting the next but once you've got "Mr Perfect" and "Mr Romantic" safely under your belts, you can kiss goodbye to your life for the next few days, a week tops because you will want to devour this absolute gem of a series. You (like every single other person who read this series before you), will want to know the answer to the question that was on everyone's lips, "what the fuck happened that night?" Oh that darn question drove me crazy and kept me up night after night until all was revealed and then of course came the gasps, the shock, the palpitations, the sweaty palms. Uh huh, prepare yourselves peeps because this is one hell of a bumpy, crazy, wild ride and I loved every single freakin' bit of it.
I feel like i just walked into a trap. I feel like a rabbit looking up into the eyes of a wolf.

As I've said on many an occasion, this author's story telling abilities are second to none and although she has written numerous books (like maybe a gazillion), I never feel like they are "samey" or that there are similarities in the story lines. But this story line, what can I say other than this was pure genius on Julie A Huss's part. The way this series was written ensured that although (in theory) each book could be read as a standalone, in practice that was never (and I mean NEVER) going to happen. The sub plot, that wasn't a sub plot but was actually the pièce de résistance had me hook, line and sinker. God I could talk about it but I can't, I just can't because this is one you will want to read without any knowledge of what's to come. That element of surprise will seriously knock you on your ass.
I can't believe I'm so turned on. Am I supposed to be turned on? Am i supposed to like this?

So on to the characters, boy did these guys test me. Having read "Mister Perfect" and "Mr Romantic," I honestly thought I'd got these books and these men and their leading ladies sussed. I thought I'd worked out the formula for what was to come but nope. Book three turned out to be such a huge game changer as did books four and five. None of the characters were alike. Some I absolutely loved. Some I just wanted to hug and some, well some were really going to have to work their asses off to win my affections.
An honest enemy is always better than a friend who lies.

What else to say without spoiling anything, nothing I guess other than the whole series is a must read. This whole story from start to finish was dramatic, full of twists and turns, action packed, sexy and swoony and full of mystery and suspense. I could honestly see this on the big screen some day. The icing on the cake for me was the link to some of Julie's other series. When an author does this and does it well, it will blow your mind as this series did. Go grab it. What are you waiting for!!!!
The rules of the game state that you only get one chance for every moment. Make the wrong choice and it stays wrong forever.

So ratings: The whole series gets a ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ for the genius way it was written.
Mr Perfect: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr Romantic: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr corporate: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr Mysterious: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr Match: ❤️❤️❤️❤️.5

Rook and Ronin and the spinoff books are one of my all time favorite series so I was excited to read about Cinderella Shrike. She was fantastic.

Love Cindy's quirkiness and spunk. The 1st half of this book was fantastic. I loved every interaction between Pax and Cinderella. 😉

When the mystery picks back up it got a lot frustrating!! Why do they insist on the lies and keeping secrets from each other. OMG!! They should be a united team trying to figure this out.

I am optimistic the next book with Oliver Shrike will give us a more united front and more answers. Princess Shrike better be okay!!
