The Daughters of Maine by Tish Thawer

Oh my goodness I just loved this second book in  The Witches of Blackbrook Novels!! This is a definite 5 star read.  I am sad that I didn't read the first one but will soon remedy that and can't wait to read the third novel.  The three sisters Trin, Caris, and Kennedy are Witches who have lived many lifetimes and have to stop Ann yet again. Ann was stripped of her powers and banished by the oldest sister, Trin, in the first novel.

Trin has been plagued with nightmares and a sense of foreboding.  Her boyfriend, Jason, is worried about her and wants to tell her sisters.  Caris is a school teacher in their current life and Kennedy works for the FBI.  They are not as close as they were before since Trin had been separated from them in another lifetime. They must reform their bond as sisters and as witches.

I loved how the telling in this novel made me feel like I could  see in my mind the places they traveled to.  If you love stories of witches that open portals to time travel and chant spells, you will love this series.  Trin has time traveled and lived places her sisters didn't know about.  She still has friends from 1693 and 1703 who would do anything for her.

All four of them end up jumping back to 1703 and have to work together to stop Ann once again.  The cliff hanger at the end left my mouth hanging open and wanting more.  Can not wait for the next telling of the Witches of Blackbrook.

I would have been happier if I'd stopped reading after the first book. The storyline was all over the place in this one and I really felt uncomfortable with the mash-up of Native American culture. I'm no expert, but the indigenous people in what is now called Maine did not carry machetes or make beaded headresses with conch shells found in the woods, nor were they part of the Iroquois tribe. All of the characters speak in a modern dialect even when in a 17th century setting. And there's so much dialogue that it reads more like a script than a book at times. I'm still debating whether I want to follow the cliffhanger into the final book or avoid the cringe altogether.

I really like this whole story. It's unique, and I love the way it bounces back and forth through time. I enjoyed the second book more than the first one. It was more exciting and faster paced. I still see some of the same issues I saw with the first one, like sometimes bland dialogue and it doesn't feel fully fleshed out in some spots. I wish it was a little longer, so some parts weren't glossed over. But all in all, the storyline is good, and I wasn't ready for the surprise at the end. I'm anxious to read book 3.

“Through space and time, sisters entwined. Lost then found, souls remain bound.”

The Daughters of Maine is the second book in the Witches of BlackBrook, by Tish Thawer. It is a paranormal/fantasy; a story about witches- with lots of action, adventure, magic, time travel, history, drama and suspense. So much happens in this story, writing this review will be difficult because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But I’m going to try…
This story follows on from where book one left off. The sisters Trin, Caris (Kara) and Kennedy (Kenna) are now reunited in the present day. The sisters have lived many life times that have spanned the centuries. They are witches, each one capable of wielding incredible magic- but when they combined their abilities it magnifies their powers considerably. In the last book Trin had stripped Ann of her powers and banished her to Salem.
As the story opens, we find Ann trying to wield magic, to open a portal to the past. Ann is angry and vengeful- she’s desperately seeking a way to regain her powers and strike back at the sisters. She is frustrated because she can’t get the spell exactly right. She misses her powers and having to do magic the long and complicated way, frustrates her. But she is determined to succeed, and is willing to do whatever it takes to do so.
In the meanwhile, Trin has been having troubling nightmares that have given her considerable unease. She can’t remember them, except that they seem ominous and give her the sense that something bad is about to happen. She needs to figure out why she’s having these nightmares, because it could be important.
This starts them on an incredible journey that has the sisters travelling though time in an effort to prevent the timelines and future from being altered. They are pitted against dark and sinister forces- old enemies need to be dealt with, and old friendships will be renewed. Can the sisters prevail against the powerful evil that has hunted them through time? Will they succeed in their endeavour, or will someone pay the ultimate price?
Ms. Thawer is an incredible storyteller. She’s created a complex and multi-layered story that she has smoothly and skilfully choreographed into a very riveting read.
The characters are individual, with their own personalities, strengths, flaws and quirks. They are well written, likeable and fully realised.
The book has a great pace; it flows well, is easy to follow and is a fairly quick read.
There were quite a few twists and turns that had me flipping the pages to find out what was happening.
When the story ended, I wanted more, I wasn’t ready to leave it yet! The story is to be continued in book three and I can’t wait to find out what happens!
If you like witches, magic, time-travel and a riveting adventure- then this is definitely the book for you.

Thank you Ms. Thawer!

Loved it

Wow! This was so good! Absolutely loved it.
A continuation from the Witches of Blackbrook which led the sisters to Maine. Being in Maine brought back memories to Trin of another lifetime...
Trin, Caris, and Kennedy are in Maine to stop Ann Putnam but they find themselves back in time to the early 1700s...can they find Ann and stop her again? Do they get back to the present or are they stuck in the past? You will have to read the book to find out
Easy, smooth reading and a great story line...highly recommend

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FOLLOW UP

It follows on from The Witches of Blackbrook and continues to weave a fantastic story of family and magick. It is EXACTLY the kind of ‘witchy’ book i wanted to read. I looooove how Tish writes about the rituals and the encantarions/spells etc. They are so very true to real witchcraft.

I cant wait for the third book!! Please please please write it soon!

For some reason I have a hard time keeping up with what character is who in these books. The name changing is a little confusing. I had flash backs to Havenwood Falls "Lost in time", which I'm not sue where in the time travel timeline that falls. the story is good though, very similar to Outlander's characters Clair and Geilis's good vs evil time travel story.

The Daughters of Maine by Tish Thawer
4 Stars

This is book two in the Witches of Blackbrook series. It is a story of three witch sisters; Trin, Caris and Kennedy. Their original lives took place in 1693 during the Salem witch trials. Trin was burnt at the stake. Before she died, she cast a spell which enabled the souls of her lover, her sisters and herself to reincarnate over the centuries. Most of the time they would find each other in each lifetime. This book takes place in the present day soon after they are reunited. Each are powerful witches but joined together their power magnifies threefold.

In the first book, they battled an evil witch and Trin managed to bind her powers. The story continues in this book with the evil witch, named Ann Putnam, trying to regain her powers and seeking to destroy the sisters. I wish I had read the first book because I was lost in the beginning of this book. I feel that if I had the background knowledge of what had happened, I would have understood better where they were now.

There is a lot of time travelling in this story. I really had to pay attention to what was going on. One minute they are in the present, then 1703 then poof, back to the Salem trials and before you can blink you're back in the 1700’s. Each lifetime they had different names so I had to figure out who was who. I do think it was a little much personally. That being said, the author did an excellent job of describing details and places. I could picture clearly where they were and almost hear the birds chirping. The characters were likeable and the story was fast paced, making it a quick read. Ultimately this is a story about good verses evil and I have to find out who wins in book three.

This is my first book by Tish Thawer. The Daughters of Maine is the second novel in the Witches of BlackBrooke series. It is about three sisters, who are witches, and Jason, lover of eldest sister, Trin. The sisters have been separated for centuries by the evil schemes of Ann and a demon named Heinrich. Two of the sisters Caris and Kennedy have managed to live their lives in the same time period. They've been protected by Jason, Trin's mate. The three of them are relieved to have been reunited with Trin. They are concerned that she seems to be too focused on Ann.

Ann has spent lifetimes keeping the sisters apart and binding Trin to her. Now that the sisters have stripped her of her powers she needs to travel back to a time to restore them and wreck vengeance on the sisters. She pretends to be Trin to participate in a genealogy study at the University setting off a chain reaction that will lure the sisters to Maine where she plans to open a portal and travel back to a time to restore her powers.

These sisters reminded me of the Halliwell sisters from charmed. Three sisters with very different personalities that need each other to cast the necessary spells to vanquish their evil foe. They'll be confronted with relatives and friends who will use them to accomplish their goals. Adversity will be the necessary component to making the sisters trust one another as they race against time to prevent Ann from separating them again in this four star novel.

This second book initially starts off with Trin having nightmares once again.

To my understanding, the sisters: Trin, Caris, and Kennedy travel back and find Ann once again because Ann has cause some sort of disruption to their timeline.

As per the first book this was a short and simple read.

The Daughters of Maine (Witches of Blackbrook Book 2) by Tish Thawer is the second book in the series following 3 witch sisters that are reunited in the present time but have to go back in time to right the wrongs.

The book describes the sisters well - Caris, Kennedy and Trin perfectly along with Trin’s long time soul mate Jason. They all have a past, and a present however their future is in jeopardy from decisions they have taken in a past life.

Kennedy in the present is a police officer and uses her magic to make it look like she is being effective at work. Her job leads her to Maine which she identifies a dark witch who needs to be stopped increasing her power level to destroy them all. Caris and Kennedy are already on the case and the 3 of them begin to move between their past and present to hunt her down. You learn about Trin’s previous human her soul inhabited and how very important she was to the health and well-being of the women around her.

The love story between Trin and Jason spans the eras - always finding each other despite the decade or century their souls roam. The chanting and incantations were very soulful, always blessing and thanking the goddesses for using their magic and protecting their family.

Tish writes with great description, weaving her own magic with the that of the 3 sisters - jumping eras at a time but leaving it open for future instalments.

This novel was all kinds of fun. I haven’t read the first book in the series but after finishing Daughters of Maine the other night; I bought it on my kindle straight away. I love a good story about witches that isn’t too cliché and has characters so likeable you wish they were real and you knew them.
I found Trish Thawer an exceptional writer. She pulled me in within a few pages of the first chapter, her writing seemed effortless, as if she simply thought the stories and it appeared on the pages for her.
The bond between the sisters was so incredibly written, and realistic in a world where things are magically impractical. The fight they endure to be with each other again, is heartfelt and so powerful you wish they would bind themselves together so nothing else could separate them again.
There is romance in this story, and since I was new to the characters, I was pleasantly surprised how engaging Trin and Jason where when together. I wanted more of them whenever their scenes ended. My favorite sister had to be Trin, but Kennedy and Kara tied for a close second. Each sister had their own unique personality that shone through, throughout the entire plot.
Without spoiling, I can say that the plot was well thought out and never did a dull moment surface. It flowed exceptionally well; I had no complaints with the pacing at all. In my head, this story played out like a movie I desperately wanted to watch on my television screen.

BOOK REVIEW 📚

Last year I read the first book, The Witches of BlackBrook. I did enjoy it, even though it didn't accurately portray the true history of the Salem Witch hunts. The story was still a good one.

This second in the series, again, while not historically accurate, was still a good story. These are easy reads, which sometimes you need! Again, the author chose to have the Salem witches being burned. Which didn't happen there. Maybe it's just my preference that historical fiction be accurate, even if the story surrounding it is fictional.

In this second book, the sisters, Trin, Kennedy, and Caris, have all been reunited. But, their struggles with Ann Putnam are far from over. As they go back and forth through time, they have to overcome the evilness that Ann has spread.

The ending of this one was a cliffhanger! And of course I don't have the third one here!! Yet!!

⭐⭐⭐ (Story was good. Historical liberties were my reason for the three stars)

The Daughters of Maine (Witches of BlackBrook Book 2) by Tish Thawer is the second part of the Witches of BlackBrook series and it picks up right where the first book ended, so if you haven’t read the first book I would recommend you do so. After defeating Ann and vanquishing her powers in the first book, in this one the sisters are together again in present day and must get to know each other again. For centuries, something evil has chased them, and as they ran they have tried to find a way to destroy it first. This causes the sisters to be separated and as time goes on, each sister grows and is different. Trin, as the eldest, is use to taking care of her sisters and being the strength. As her sisters have grown it’s not needed as much. Caris is a school teacher and her the youngest sister Kennedy is no longer the child Trin remembers, but a FBI agent. When the sisters come back together they have to learn each other again and grow into new dynamics. Unfortunately, good things never last as an Trin has nightmares that she can’t seem to remember and an old enemy appears and threatens to destroy them. They will need to go to the past and stop the enemy from ruining everything, while making sure that they don’t destroy their future themselves. Will they get to know each other again? Will they be able to defeat this evil without changing the future?

This second book follows effortlessly from book one and continues the saga of the 3 sisters who after finding each other after all the hundreds of years that have passed by they are now entrapped by a vengeful Ann Putnam all the way from the past and bent on destroying them and getting their magic all to herself and preventing the sisters to regain their life in the present. They time travel back to the past following evil Ann but they realise they have to go back to the beginning to finally eradicate the evil created by Ann and be able to get their life together. And rescue their mother from the clutches of Ann Putnam and her sisters and father.
Another great read and I’m ready for book 3. This is really a fantastic tale and I very strongly recommend it to all those who like the paranormal with a bit of romance thrown in. Fabulous book!

THIS IS A MUST READ!!
The Daughters of Maine is the second book in The Witches of BlackBrook. I recommend you read the first book so you can follow along with the story. This book picks up where book one ended. I found this book to be enchanting while hoping for the sisters to reconnect with each other.
Trin, Caris aka Kara, Kennedy aka Kenna are three sisters trying to find a way to destroy the evil that has chased them through centuries. The sisters are finally together and trying to build their strength as witches for the fight ahead. It is harder now more than ever because they must relearn each other. Trin as the oldest has always been the one to take care of her sisters, Caris is the school teacher, but now the youngest Kennedy is an agent she is tougher than ever and no longer the baby. There is a darkness that one of the sisters feels and it comes to her in her nightmares. She has stripped a witch of all her powers and banished her to Salem. The oldest sister is married to her soul mate and he adds to the power stream. The person looking for them has been searching family histories through medical trials for genealogy. But will this lead her to them? Or with the combined strength of all four of them be strong enough? Can they fight off the evil that threatens to destroy them and their bond? I loved the way this story crosses back and forth over centuries. When they all four go back to the year 1703 can they all work together and finish this?
Tish Thawer has written a mind-blowing story. It flows so smoothly and is easy to keep up with even through the going back and forth in different centuries. I found it fascinating how the sister with all their differences understood each other and the things that had changed each one’s life through-out time. This is my first read by Tish Thawer but it won’t be my last! This is a cliffhanger and will make you want book three.

The Daughters of Maine-Tish Thawer

5 Stars Review

The Daughters of Maine is an incredibly well written story. It is the second book in the Witches of Blackbrook series. It is told in all of the main characters POV’s, Trin’s, Caris’s, Kennedy’s, and Jason’s. Throughout the whole book it jumps from present day to past situations. I read the 2nd book before the first and I can honestly say it made no difference. The story is very detailed and it isn’t hard to follow.

This book was intense, exciting, and very captivating. I could not stop reading. The sisters, Trin, Caris, and Kennedy are all very strong, powerful, and fierce women. They make the perfect witches. Tish did an incredible job with these characters. They are all very different from one another and yet they share so many similarities. It was so easy to like these characters!

This book follows the sisters in their quest to try and stop Ann from regaining her powers. Many many years ago, the sisters took her powers away for everyone’s safety as she had changed and become evil. And now Ann wants revenge.

They embark on this journey, travelling through time, and having to overcome obstacles along the way. As Ann plays with time the sisters must try to stop her and make sure the future isn’t altered in any way. Throughout the book they meet others who try and help them defeat Ann. Will the sisters be strong enough to stop Ann in time or will Ann manage to regain her powers before they can stop her?

This book was absolutely phenomenal! It was so captivating; I was hooked from the very start. I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone. I can’t wait to continue reading this series and seeing what Tish comes up with.

The Daughters of Maine (Witches of BlackBrook Book 2) by Tish Thawer is the second book in the Witches of BlackBrook series. I would recommend that you read book one before this one as it will give you background information on the characters in this story will be helpful when reading this one. This story is full of time travel, witches and fantasy. You will love how the author has created situations with these characters that keep the story flowing. This story is full of suspense, action and a touch of romance. This story is about how lost souls finding each other again. Find out what happens with these characters as they travel through time.

In the present day three sisters have reunited, Trin, Caris and Kennedy and then of course you have to have the sexy man named Jason. What will happen when Trin starts having nightmares she can't remember? Is their enemy back hunting her? They agree to cast a spell to figure it out but before that can happen, Trin's identify has been stolen. Who would do such a thing? Will they figure out the mystery? This is where they get separated once again as they try to save their new coven and themselves. Are they in danger?

Do they have a choice but to travel back through time to stop things from changing? Will Jason be their savior? They will end up walking their past footsteps but will it provide the answers they are looking for? So many choices but what will they do? Will they once again be separated for years? Are their souls bound forever?

This is my first story by Tish Thawer and I know it won't be the last. I can't wait for the third book to come out so I can find out what happens with these characters. Tish lives in Colorado with her husband and three children. She writes paranormal romances for all ages. She is a columnist for Gliterary Girl media and has bylines in RT Magazine and Literary Lunes Magazine. This author has created a story that will pull you in from the first page forward. This is a fast page turner that will leave you wanting more and needing to find out what will happen at the end. You will totally lose track of time reading this story. The twists and turns keep the story flowing from page to page. I highly suggest this story as I know you will want to see what happens to these sisters as much as I did.

Yet another book of this author I did not want to put down. Not many reasons stopped me from giving it 5 stars other than the ending seemed very rushed. Just when I felt like something important could have been shared, when a more suspenseful rise of climax was brewing, the book only had 8 more pages to go; while this is leading to the (hopeful?) third book it was a bit of a bummer. Other than that the story was told well and the Wiccan roots were all the same and not overly done!

The Daughters of Maine ~ a Witches of BlackBrook novel~ book 2 by Tish Thawer
This is book 2 in “the Witches of BlackBrook” series and I did not read Book 1 before opening Book 2. While this may not be a standalone, I was able to pick up and follow along without too much adjustment. I never feel like I was lost because of previous events. It felt like walking into a new series even though there was an obvious thread from the first book. This is my first Tish Thawer book and I just fell right into her writing style and the ability to transport me, visually, through each and every event that takes place.
The Daughters of Maine focuses on three sisters who have power on their own, and together they have more than triple the magical power. They survived the Salem Witch Trials and now travel between centuries and past incarnations to chase the origin of the evil that is in their lives. The oldest sister is married to her soul mate and he adds to the power stream.
“God and Goddess of the moon, stars, and sun, shine your bright blessing upon me as this new day has begun” – Tish Thawer
It was if I was watching a movie while I was reading. The feelings and emotions this book evoked was magical in itself. I felt a kinship with the sisters that had me yearning for sisters myself. Such complex relationships sisters seem to have.
The acknowledgement is “For all those who never stop looking for more”. Well after reading The Daughters of Maine, I am certainly looking for more of this series and I will go back and read Book 1. I very much look forward to Book 3 to see how this journey continues.

Loved Book 2!

I loved book 2 but the bad part of a series is waiting for release of the next book. Dang it!!! Yet I will be hopeful that it will be as good as the first 2 books. It's the waiting that's so hard - and because the first 2 book's were so good, I might not be as generous with my stars. Here is hoping!!!

So far I've really liked both books in the series and plan to read the next one when it comes out. The dialogue is a little simple at times but overall the characters are relatable and you can get into the storyline pretty easily. It's not outrageously unbelievable (insofar as fiction/fantasy genre sometimes can be) so all told I'd definitely recommend this as a fast-paced, fun read.

The Daughters of Maine
By Tish Thawer

FIVE STARS!

YAY! It’s finally here. I feel like I waited forever! Alright it was only a week or two weeks but it seemed like it took forever. Sure, I’m a new Tish fan but let me tell you. She is an amazing new author that I am adding to my list of must reads. All of her reads.

In The Daughters of Maine by Tish Thawer you get to see the second book of the Series. If you have not read not the first book, you need to do it. Like now. This book will be confusing if you had not read the other book. This is not a standalone.

You get to see the sisters, once again together. Attempting to find the evil that is trying to keep them away from one another. But nothing can stop these sisters from coming together and kicking butt. Plus figuring out who, what and why they want to take the powers aways from them.

I loved seeing Trin and Jason together. Getting to see them finding that love together. It is amazing how even after all these years they have that spark together. Like it was truly meant to be, no matter what.

Seeing the other girls and really getting to see the dynamics between the sisters and how it has changed throughout their first life together.

I loved how there was action in it. It made me want to keep reading even when my kids were yelling at me for dinner or the time my husband told me that I had to sleep. But this book brings me in every time and eats you. The author did amazing on this book! You will not be disappointed in the second book of this series.

Daughters of Maine is the second book in the Witches of BlackBrook series by Tish Thawer. I did not read book one and wish I had. Not that you can't read book two without book one but I generally like all the background info. I was able to piece things together pretty well but I will definitely have to go back for book one when I have time. There are three sisters who have been separated for a time. They have lived many lifetimes. They are powerful. They are finally together again and learning to be around each other and embrace the magic and power they have. Tris, Caris, and Kennedy. So in this book they are having to fight an evil they binded powers of and try to stop her before she does irrevocable damage. Ann Putnam is her name. Tris strips her of her powers and banishes her in the first book. There is time traveling and magic. I really enjoy the whole time traveling and magic concept. It was super refreshing to read something different and unique. And to have it connected to Salem Massachusetts was super cool too. I have always been really interested in the Salem witch trials so I was very intrigued by that. I would say the book was well written and the story flowed well. I liked the characters a lot. I would say some of my favorite parts were among the Indians as well as the time traveling and magic. I really liked this book and hope to get to read the others. 4 star rating.
