22 books163 followersIbn e Insha (Urdu: ابن انشاء) born in British India as Sher Muhammad Khan (Urdu: شیر محمد خان) is a renowned Pakistani Urdu poet, humorist, travelogue writer and columnist. Along with his poetry, he is regarded one of the best humorists of Urdu literature. His poetry has a distinctive diction laced with language reminiscent of Amir Khusro in its use of words and construction.
He migrated to Pakistan after partition and served at various government institutions including Radio Pakistan, the Ministry of Culture and the National Book Centre of Pakistan. He also served at UN for some time. This enabled him to visit many places, all of which inspired the travelogues he would then pen.
He died of Hodgkin's Lymphoma on January 11, 1978 in London and was buried in Karachi.

Ibn-e-Insha is such a delightful humorist. He has a "gazab ka" sense of humor. :) I totally loved this book. A must read... and I am sure you will enjoy reading it.

When it comes to humor and wit, no one can live up to the standard set by Ibn e Insha. He is one of the prolific writers of Urdu language, and he is one of those writers whose writings endured through time. Urdu ki Aakhri Kitab (the last book of urdu) comprises of stories, poems and proses and covers area from nature, geography, history, science, mathematics etc. These stories, poems and proses display the unparalleled wisdom and wit of Ibn e Insha shrouded in a healthy criticism. I was not able to curb my laughters. The stories of Alexender and Khizer, Mahmud Ghaznavi and Firdosi, and union is strength are the best part of my experience reading this timelessly classic book.

پرانے زمانے میں زمین گل محمد کی طرح ساکن ہوتی تهی. سورج اور آسمان وغیرہ اس کے گرد گهوما کرتے تهے. پهر گیلیلیو نامی ایک شخص آیا اور اس نے زمین کو سورج کے گرد گهمانا شروع کر دیا. پادری بہت ناراض ہوے کہ یہ ہم کو کس چکر میں ڈال دیا ہے. گیلیلیو کو تو انهوں نے قرار واقعی سزا دے کر آئندہ اس قسم کی حرکات سے روک دیا. زمین کو البتہ نہیں روک سکے، برابر حرکت کئے جا رہی ہے.
Ibn-e-Insha’s cheeky humor is awesome. He pokes fun at a wide variety of things; from Mughal Emperors to Algebra and Geometry. His versions of moral stories with some realistic twists were just hilarious. At the end of each piece he asks his readers some utterly ludicrous albeit thought provoking questions which made me double up with laughter. But the best part is the ultra-cool illustrations whose silliness went perfectly with the content of the book.
همایوں کو علمِ ہئیت کا بهت شوق تها جو سائنس کی ایک قسم هے. ایک روز چهت پر کهڑا ستارے دیکه رها تها. اترتے میں پاءوں پهسلا اور مر گیا. انا لللہ وانا الیہ راجعون.
همایون نرم آدمی تها. اس کی فوج بهی نرم دِل تهی. جہاں شیر شاه سامنے آتا تها پیچهے ہٹ جاتی تهی. بعض مورخین نے اسے شکست سے تعبیر کیا هے.
شاه جهان، جهانگیر کا بیٹا اور اکبر کا پوتا تها. کسی معمار عمارتی ٹهیکیدار کا نور نظر نه تها. نه کسی پی، ڈبلیو والے کا مورث اعلی تها. جیسا کہ لوگ اسے اتنی ساری عمارتیں بنانے کی وجہ سے سمجه لیتے هیں.

I had read it back in the day when I was a teen. Heard the audible audiobook this time narrated by Fawad Khan (not the actor) and he has done a great job. Like a Zia Mohiuddin reincarnated, which is mostly a good thing but he trips up when Insha throws in a Punjabi line in the middle.
Written in 1970, the book is a great artefact of Pakistani history and testament to the more things change the more they stay the same cliche. What a man insha was, so melancholy in his poetry, so sharp and witty in his prose.

ہومیوپیتھی علاج کا اصول ہے کہ کم دوا زیادہ اثر رکھتی ہے۔ یہی بات اردو کی اس مایہ ناز کتاب پر بھی صادق آتی ہے۔
مختصر مختصر مضامین۔ طنز سے بھیگے ہوئے اور مزاح سے نچڑتے ہوئے۔ پڑھتے جاؤ اور ہنستے جاؤ۔ اتنا ہنسو کہ آنکھ بھیگ جائے۔
کالج سے اب تک شاید چوتھی بار پڑھی ہے یہ کتاب۔ تب الفاظ کا الٹ پھیر، جملوں کی شرارت، مزاح کی جوت جگاتے تھے۔ اب کی بار لفظوں میں چھپی علامات نے گدگدایا۔
اکبر کے نورتن ہوں، جس میں چوٹ صدر ایوب کے وزراء پر کی گئی ہے۔ ۔ ۔ یا لوک حکایات، جس میں ساٹھ ستر کی سیاست کا نقشہ کھینچا گیا ہے، انشاء جی نے کمالِ فن کی انتہا کر دی ہے اور بڑے غیر محسوس انداز سے ماضی کے واقعات کو حال سے جوڑدیا ہے۔

ایک شیر اور گدھا شکار کرنے گئے انھوں نے کئ جانور مارے آخر شکار تقسیم کرنے بیٹھے. شیر نے تین ڈھیریاں بنائیں اور کہا کہ یہ ڈھیری تو جنگل کا بادشاہ ہونے کی حیثیت سے میری ہے. اور یہ دوسری اس لئے میری ہے کہ شکار میں برابر کا حصہ دار ہوں. اب رہی یہ تیسری ڈھیری, کسی میں ہمت ہے تو اٹھا لے. ہے ہمت؟
ہر متحدہ محاذ میں عموماً ایک شیر اور باقی گدھے ہوتے ہیں. تقسیم شکار کی ہو یا ٹکٹوں کی, اس میں شیر کا حصہ خاص ہوتا ہے. اس پر کوئی اعتراض کرتا ہے تو گدھا ہے.

IBN E INSHA Sir, you are one of a kind
I enjoyed this book immensely. This book is like a fresh wind and makes a refreshing impact on you. This book discusses various topics like politics, education, history with a touch of magical humour from Ibn e Insha. This book showed me once again how delicious and entertaining Urdu can be.
I took out one star because some of the things I wasn't able to understand due to my lack of vocabulary. Need more URDU-ISH-ness in my life I guess.
Highly recommended for Urdu prose lovers.

کچھ کتابیں ایسی ہوتی ہے جن کا بار بار مطالعہ ذہنی ورزش کے لئے ضروری ہے اور جتنی بار بھی پڑھی جائے ہمیشہ پہلی بار پڑھنے کا لطف دیتی ہے . اردو میں یہ بات مضامین پطرس اور اردو کی آخری کتاب پر صادق آتی ہیں .

December 29, 2015When it comes to Humor and satire no one can beat Ibn e Insha. Really enjoyed reading this book i felt like i was reading a text book of my school time. With some great information, poetry, funny stories and much more.Even if i'll read it again and again i know i'll never get bored of this piece of writing even whenever i'll be getting bored i'll just start reading this book again n again. Level of humor is top rated. Humor being created with basic educational material and native stories has created an outclass refreshing reading material for every one. Its not for a specific set of age group.

Here are my immediate thoughts after finishing this book.
There is satire, comedy, simplicity and full of uncommon sense .
He has told the school lessons with such height of comedy that I ended up saying ارے ابن انشا کیسے لکھ لیتے ہو۔ There are textbook lessons from history (mughals and different dynasties) , personalities or heroes, lessons of grammar , mathematics. Science, famous parables, biology (animals and birds) ,and other different objects. Maybe you can teach this book in a general knowledge class but the fact remains that this is a seriously non-serious book. The only textbook students will love.

Growing up this book was my prized possession. It also gave me my first taste of satire in Urdu. Pitras and Yousafi came much later.
The precise sentences and passages are witty. A lot of the stuff mentioned in the book is relevant even today. Grab this book, if you haven't already.

The best book i have read in humor. when i came to know about this book i have no idea what has been under till the day i pick it up. i once read mazameen-e-insha and i enjoyed that book as well..
if we talk about humor and the classic humor writing no one is parallel to Ibn-e-insha. Tough we can say no one is near to Insha ever.
The most important thing is which thing make this book more special is it area. The area is covered by Insha very beautifully. he talked about Nature, geography, government(kursi),history,science which include physics,space sciences, mathematics and write down these all in various ways somewhere he write a story or go with poem and sometimes he think prose will be the best way to talk.
Now the question is how this book which consist of many think will be best for a person vis-à-vis humorist? so i can say an average person will not understand the meanings what Insha want to say to thr masses.
He wrote in very light way and no one understand that he's criticizing the particular object. While some time he has wrote the things in the way the reader have needed to much stamina to absorb the thing without laughter.
There were various Stories where it was not possible for me to curb my laughter these were such as Pakistan, Bharat (India), Alexander, Humaiyon, beeram Khan ko hajj karwana, grammer, Kursi, chira or chirya, aik guru 2 chaily(end of humor), itfak mai barkat, admi

البتہ پانی پت کی لڑائ میں اس (بابر بادشاہ) کی موجودگی ضروری تھی. یہ نہ ہوتا تو وہ لڑائ ایک طرفہ ہوتی. ایک طرف ابراہیم لودھی دوسری طرف کوئ بھی نہ ہوتا. لوگ اس لڑائ کا حال پڑھ پڑھ کر ہنسا کرتے.

کافی وقت سے میں ابن انشا کو پڑھنے کا سوچ رہی تھی اس قید کے ماحول میں یہ موقع بھی نصیب ہوا. یہ کتاب جس دن میرے ہاتھوں میں آئ تھی اسی دن دوپہر سے رات میں ختم ہوئ. دل ہی نہیں مان رہا تھا کا اسے چھوڑوں. .
خیر تو بات یہ ہے کہ اس میں تاریخ سے سائنس اور سائنس سے ریاضی اور ریاضی سے 1970 کے الیکشن کی منظر کشی سے سبق آموز کہانیاں اور وہاں سے گرد و پیش کی چیزوں پہ روشنی ڈالی گئ ہے اور اندازِ مزاح میں جس سے ابن انشا کا نام مشہور و معروف ہے. اگر کسی نے یہ کتاب پڑھی ہو تو مجھے معلوم نہیں اسکا عالم کیا ہوگا. میرے لئے تو وہ دن قہقوں کا دن تھا 😂 اکثر مقامات پہ خود پہ قابو کرنا ہی محال تھا. . یہ کتاب اردو ادب میں اہمیت کی حامل ہے. لہذا اگر آپ اردو ادب کے لئے اور ذرا دماغ کو کھولنے کے لئے پڑھنا چاہیں تو ضرور پڑھیں. ابن انشا نے مزاح میں بات ضرور کی ہے مگر مقصود مزاح نہیں تنقید تھا یا کہیں ابھارنا مقصود تھا بند ذہنوں کو. اس لئے کہوں گی کہ کبھی نظر سے گزرے تو پڑھ لی جئے گا تفریح ہی کم از کم ہو جائے گی، اگر زیادہ نہ سمجھ آئے تو. .

خیر تو بات یہ ہے کہ اس میں تاریخ سے سائنس اور سائنس سے ریاضی اور ریاضی سے 1970 کے الیکشن کی منظر کشی سے سبق آموز کہانیاں اور وہاں سے گرد و پیش کی چیزوں پہ روشنی ڈالی گئ ہے اور اندازِ مزاح میں جس سے ابن انشا کا نام مشہور و معروف ہے. اگر کسی نے یہ کتاب پڑھی ہو تو مجھے معلوم نہیں اسکا عالم کیا ہوگا. میرے لئے تو وہ دن قہقوں کا دن تھا 😂 اکثر مقامات پہ خود پہ قابو کرنا ہی محال تھا. . یہ کتاب اردو ادب میں اہمیت کی حامل ہے. لہذا اگر آپ اردو ادب کے لئے اور ذرا دماغ کو کھولنے کے لئے پڑھنا چاہیں تو ضرور پڑھیں. ابن انشا نے مزاح میں بات ضرور کی ہے مگر مقصود مزاح نہیں تنقید تھا یا کہیں ابھارنا مقصود تھا بند ذہنوں کو. اس لئے کہوں گی کہ کبھی نظر سے گزرے تو پڑھ لی جئے گا تفریح ہی کم از کم ہو جائے گی، اگر زیادہ نہ سمجھ آئے تو. .

'उर्दू की आख़िरी किताब' व्यंग्य लेखन का एक अद्भुत नमूना है जिसका अंदाज़े बयाँ बिल्कुल नए तरीके का है। आपको जानकर ताज्जुब होगा कि ये पूरी किताब एक पाठ्यपुस्तक की शैली में लिखी गई है जिसमें इतिहास, भूगोल, गणित, विज्ञान और नीति शिक्षा के अलग अलग पाठ हैं। इन पाठों में इंशा जी ने जो ज्ञान बाँटा है उसे पढ़कर हो सकता है आपको अपनी अब तक की शिक्षा व्यर्थ लगे :)। इंशा जी को भी इस बात का इल्म था इसीलिए किताब की शुरुआत में वो कहते हैं

इस किताब जैसा न आज तक कभी लिखा गया और न ही शायद लिखा जा पाएगा।
यह व्यंग्य है। इस किताब का शीर्षक ही एक व्यंग्य है।
इस किताब का ऐसा एक पन्ना नही जिसे पढ़ते वक्त आप के चेहरे पर मुस्कुराहट न हो। परंतु साथ ही साथ एक उदासी भी रहेगी नही तो आप तिलमिलाकर रह जाएंगे।
खैर इस किताब में क्या क्या है:
इसमें भूगोल, इतिहास, व्याकरण, गणित, विज्ञान और वह हर विषय जो हम स्कूल में पढ़ा करते थे, वह सब कुछ है।
सबसे मज़ेदार चीज़ यह है कि किताब की शुरुआत एक पत्र से होती है जो कि इब्ने इंशा ने खुद ही को एक चेयरमैन की हैसियत से लिखा है। उस पत्र में बताया जाता है आपने जो किताब (उर्दू की आखरी किताब) लिखी है उसे विद्यार्थियों के लिए टेक्स्टबुक की तरह मंजूर नहीं किया जा सकता। लिहाज़ा टैक्स्ट बुक बोर्ड इसे खुशी से नामंजूर करता है।

155 पन्नों की यह किताब मेरे मुताबिक तो आज के आज ही विद्यार्थियों के लिए टैक्स्ट बुक कोर्स में दाख़िल कर लेनी चाहिए।
या यूं कहूं कि मैं तो व्यक्तिगत तौर पर कभी स्कूली शिक्षा प्राप्त करना चाहूंगा तो इब्ने इंशा ही मेरे अध्यापक होने चाहिए।
इस किताब में मैंने देश और उसका इतिहास (ब्रिटिश और मुगलिया राज), रामायण और महाभारत, विज्ञान (सॉलिड, लिक्विड, गैस/ एलिमेंट्स एंड कंपाउंड्स), गणित(लाइंस, शेप्स, ज्योमेट्री, अलजेब्रा), मोरल स्टोरीज (कछुआ और खरगोश/कौवा और घड़ा) इत्यादि सब पढ़ लिया और ऐसा समझ आया जैसा पहले कभी नहीं समझ आ पाया था। अब दिमाग़ में छप सा गया।
मेरी खुशकिस्मती है की एक बार यूं हीं दिल्ली के कनॉट प्लेस में एक बहुत पुरानी किताबों की दुकान पर सलीम भाई से मिला और उन्होंने मुझे इस किताब से अवगत कराया। उन्हें व्यंग्य पढ़ना बहुत पसंद है। उन्होंने मुझे दावे से कहा था कि एक बार पढ़ लेंगे तो भूल नही पाएंगे इस किताब को, बिल्कुल ठीक कहा था।

اگر کوئی مجھ سے کہے کہ اردو ادب میں بہترین اور مختصر کتاب کونسی ہے تو میں کہوں گا "اردو کی آخری کتاب" اس کتاب کا نام بھی ایک مذاق پر مبنی ہے۔ کسی زمانے میں حسین آزادؔ نے بچوں کا اردو کا نصاب بنانا شروع کیا تھا تو ان کی کتب کے اس طرح کے نام ہوتے تھے۔ "اردو کی پہلی کتاب" ، "اردو کی دوسری کتاب" ابن انشا کے اس کا بھی مذاق بنا ڈالا اور اردو کی ایسی کتاب لکھ ڈالی جو میرے خیال میں مزاح نگاری کی تو بہترین آخری کتاب ہے۔ ویے کم لوگ یہ جانتے ہوں گے کہ یہ آئیڈیا خاص ان کا اپنا نہیں تھا بلکہ پطرس کے مضامین میں "اردو کی آخری کتاب " کے عنوان سے ہی ایک معرکۃ الارا مضمون موجود ہے جو کہ بظاہر ابن انشا کی اس کتاب کا محرک بنا۔ پطرس کے اس مضمون کو پڑھ کر واقعی ایسا لگتا ہے کہ ابن انشا لکھ رہے ہیں۔ ابن انشا کی یہ کت��ب طنز کے تیروں سے لدا ہوا ترکش ہے جس میں سیاست، دینی قیادت، معاشرتی اقدار ہر ایک کو ہی نشانہ بنایا گیا ہے۔ اور اگرچہ آپ طنز کے ذریعے کوئی اچھا کام سر انجام نہیں دے سکتے لیکن یہ بھی ایک کمال ہے کہ طنز کیسے کرتے ہیں۔ اس کو ابن انشا نے بچوں کی نصابی کتاب کے انداز میں لکھا ہے حتی کہ "ریاضی" اور "تاریخ" کے اسباق بھی ہیں۔ اور ہر مضمون قہقہوں کے نئے فوارے لے کر آتا ہے۔ حد تو یہ کہ پیش لفظ بھی سراسر ایک لطیفہ ہے۔ یہ کتاب میں نے کئی مرتبہ پڑھی ہے اور ہر بار دلچسپ محسوس ہوتی ہے۔
