Christie Becker has always dreamed of a career in radio. After a few years of working a grueling desk job and attending night classes, Christie is finally ready to embark on her new on-air career. When she quits her job and gets hired as an overnight disc jockey, her life seems to be on the right track, but falling for her boss was not something she planned on.Rick Fox has been working in radio for ten years. In fact, it was his voice that got Christie through many college study sessions. With an established career, the last thing he wants - or expects - is to be attracted to the overnight jock. Especially when it is strictly against company policy; an affair would put both their careers in jeopardy. But when the two of them are thrown together in the studio it becomes clear that the static between them is more than just professional chemistry. Will Christie's career be destroyed before it even begins, or will Rick find a way to salvage both their jobs and put their love on the air?
4.5 Stars There's a lot to like. I love the little descriptions of the characters that made them come alive to me. I loved that they didn't dive into a relationship or an immediate angst fest. It's just a passing attraction that they choose to ignore. I especially liked that Christie is far more passionate about her job than getting it on with the boss. And I liked that the writing is so sensible. This is such a simple story, but it worked. Yay!
Christie is a fabulous heroine. She's such a sweetheart. She's young, bright and sparkly – and super enthusiastic about life and her new job. She's innocent and she might say some surprising things, but she's too cute to scold. I also loved the dash of naughtiness she has in her personality. It rounded her childishness off nicely. That's not to say she's immature, cause she's not. She's cheerful without being air-headed.
In contrast Rick is an old 30-ish year old. He's been in the radio business for a while, gone through divorce and is jaded. The fact that he's Christie's boss helps to age him too. But Christie's like a breath of fresh air that makes him young again. She sort of shocks him out of his mundane routine. Rick's the type of dude to become a grouch when he realises he has, oh gosh, FEELINGS. Even though it's mean on Christie, I found it kind of funny because she absolutely freaks him out.
He could shut his door, but that would be the final act of defeat.
Rick's not all sombre and serious though. He has his moments of boyish melodrama that had me laughing.
I feel like I have to mention Rick is tall with gray eyes. Yum-o-licious.
I don't feel that I've gushed enough in this review to have done the book justice, but hopefully the 5 shiny stars at the top says it all. I really enjoyed this book. There are so many cute things in it that made me smile. I liked that it's fluffy but not too fluffy. =)
Really enjoyed this book...super cute! I had never thought much about the radio industry, but found that aspect of the storyline intriguing. I thought Christie and Rick's chemistry was great and I thought the ending was great. I think the only thing holding me back from a 5-star rating was that I could have really used an epilogue. :) But I really enjoyed the book and am thrilled to have found a new author.
When I was about 10 years old, I used to listen to the radio and wonder how in the world things worked. How did they start and stop the songs so smoothly? How did they decide what to play? How did they know what to say to fill in the time between songs? I thought this was a fun book to show things behind the scenes. I could visualize how things worked and I enjoyed the different personalities.
Christie is such a fun character. She didn't grow up confident and perfect, yet she has such great composure now. I don't think she realizes how great she is, which makes her that much better because she's not stuck up at all.
Rick was great, too. He tries so hard to be professional, yet how can he not follow his heart? He seems like a favorite radio jockey with his cool banter, smooth transitions, and good leadership skills.
I loved watching them fall for each other, yet battle that fall with everything they had.
I thought this was a great find! I really enjoyed it and hope you all did as well. I thought the setting was fun, a radio studio. I've been watching Frasier lately and it was fun to read a book that takes place in the same type setting. I liked Christie, she was easy to relate to and I thought it was cool that she was following her dreams. She gave up her secure job to try doing something she loved. I thought she had good chemistry with Rick. I wish we could have seen them interact a little more, especially on the air. I like how things wrapped up, but I would have loved an epilog so we could see how they were doing with their new job. It'd actually make a fun sequel.
Does anyone else read this book and think "Hey, I might want a job on the radio?" Okay, well I did and then quickly remember I have no training and no real interest. But I will say the author made me want to, even for a few minutes.
Christie and Rick FOX! I thought they had great chemistry on and off the radio. I loved how their relationship progressed. Most of all I loved how it ended. It was sweet and to the point.
Oh my! What a book!!!! I loved Christie. She was a really great personality. Rick.....awww Rick! I didn't want this book to end. I did feel like it was kind of an abrupt ending. I wish there was more.
This was a pleasantly diverting read. I think every teen who liked music at some point wanted to be a DJ, so it was interesting to get some behind the scenes info on the job. The romance was sweet. There's no sex, just some fevered kisses. The characters were fine, not particularly deep.
What a wacky story. I liked reading of their life before they met. Life can be so complicated ! It ended well. Glad I didn't have to harangue the author if she'd had a different ending.
Love on the radio--what a great idea. Wish I thought of it. (razz!) Seriously, this one kept me rooting for Rick and Christie all the way. When Christie applies for a job at the local radio station, she has no idea the program director is Rick Fox, a deejay she's always admired. But when mutual admiration turns to romance, trouble brews. The station's owner has a no-dating policy among employees, and Christie may have to leave the station to protect her career as well as her heart. Sierra Donovan kept me riveted, wondering how the couple would rise up against the adversity and her solution totally wowed me!
I enjoyed this book and found it delightful. I enjoyed the radio setting. I have never read a book that took place in a radio station. I found it interesting. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rick and Christie. I enjoyed the first portion of the book before Christmas. I found it cute the time they spent together and the bantering between each other. I was disappointed after Christmas that there wasn't a way to have more of this. There needed to be a little more of a relationship building for me than just the chemistry and a couple of conversations.
I enjoyed this sweet, clean contemporary romance. Great characters. The radio station setting was new and different to me. I want to read more by this author.
One nostalgic aside. It has been a long time since I "heard" someone use the expression, "I was floored." My mother used to say it all the time. A nice memory.
This book is a romance and a fast read. I liked it, thought it was cute, but I wouldn't read it again. Only because there are so many other books out there that I want to read and that are worthy of re-reading.
Clean romance - no sex, no swears Fewer than 200 pages, so it's a quick and super cute read, which is exactly what I was in the mood for. Handsome and smart H, sassy and bright h, romantic tension. I will read more by Sierra Donovan.
Rick and Christie face a problem that many people face; they fell for a person they work with and it is against company policy to date a co-worker. Love on the Air is about two radio disc jockeys love that just develops against company policy.
