I am in the process of raising three daughters who are such a contrast to myself. Whereas I am content watching sports or reading historical fiction or mysteries, they would rather watch a Disney movie intended for girls during the Super Bowl. Recently, my older two daughters discovered The Diaries of a Middle School Princess, which has brought the Princess Diaries to their level. I decided that if my oldest daughter can sit through the Super Bowl and cheer in the right places, then I can read a "girly" book. On that note, I decided to read Princess Diaries: A Royal Wedding by Meg Cabot in order to discover my girly side for a day.
Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia is finally marrying her long time boyfriend Michael Moskowitz. The two have been together since high school when they were brought together by Mia's best friend, Michael's sister Lilly. Unlike the majority of people who can get engaged and plan a wedding with little than the normal stress, Mia has to plan hers with both the tabloids and the world watching her every move.
Many believe that Cabot's long running series is a satire on the life of Kate Middleton. Yet, in this adult version, Mia discusses her friendship with Kate. After all, they are both royals. This book shows what it is like to be a twenty something in the 21st century-- constant texting, internet usage, and the need to constantly be plugged in. Other than being a princess, Mia is no different from other millennials who text rather than call and order their groceries from an online delivery service. In this regard, I enjoyed how Cabot humanizes as much of Mia's life as possible.
Of course, no royal life would be complete without scandal. In this case, Mia has found out that she has a twelve-year-old half sister, who she wants to meet and bring into her family immediately. With online news services tracking her every move, this is not an easy task, especially with it being an election year, and her grandmother Clarisse constantly looking over her shoulder. The story line with Mia'a sister shows how royals are not the same as the rest of us. Rather, they live a storybook life that the majority of people can only dream about.
I have not read Cabot's other installments of The Princess Diaries, yet I laughed at Mia'a diary entries and during many of her exchanges with both Clarisse and her friends. This book is not going to win awards for literary prowess, but it was fun to read on a gloomy winter afternoon, and also leaves the door open for future adventures about an adult Mia and her family and friends. While I would still rather read mysteries as my in between books or better yet watch sports, I am glad I read a Princess Diaries book so I have more talking points with my daughters. On that note, I gladly rate A Royal Wedding 3.5 bright stars.

Someday when I'm old and incontinent, I'm going to be shaking my cane at kids who're reading about bedazzled mummies or sexy okami and yelling, "Meg Cabot is the Queen of YA! Queen, ya little shit! Now get me more porridge!"
The Princess Diaries is what got me into YA in the first place. I grew up with Mia's obsession with her A-cup boobs, attending royal functions, witnessing her mom marry her Algebra teacher, snagging Michael (and losing him five books later), battle depression, and her ultimate happy ending. Forever Princess remains my favorite Princess Diaries book to date.
In this installment, which I firmly believe is a bridge to ease readers into From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess, Mia is twenty-six, working full-time and about to get married to Michael Moscovitz.
But because Grandmere is a nightmare (who can forget Helen and Frank's supposed wedding?) and the paparazzi like being paparazzi, there are... complications.
Oh, and Mia's long-lost sister isn't the only bombshell in Royal Wedding. Not by a long shot.
Mia's all grown-up, too. I'm constantly amazed at how Meg can write Mia as a 14-year-old in book one and 26 here, yet still have Mia be quintessentially Mia. Worrywart, Greenpeace-loving Mia.
And Michael. Le sigh. Michael.
Keep your vampires, werewolves, and aliens. That's the fictional boyfriend I want.
If you haven't read The Princess Diaries yet, what the hell are you waiting for? Go to your nearest library and ask for my girl Mia Thermopolis. Go! And get me some prune juice while you're at it.

Aah well. Another Princess Diaries book. I honestly expected Forever Princess to be the last one, as it gave a nice closure to each and every character. But I wasn't going to complain over another Princess Diaries, one of my favourites growing up. It was supposed to be a pleasant, magical trip down memory lane..Which it wasn't.
So what went wrong? Well, almost everything.
See, when I pick up a book which has an adult protagonist, I expect the protag. to behave like an adult.
After 8 years, you would expect neurotic, hypochondriac Mia to tone it down a bit, but she's every bit as crazy she was as a teenager. Her friends are even worse. Are we really expected to believe that Mia is in touch with ALL her high school friends, who, incidentally, haven't changed even slightly? And what about her college experience? Two or three lines in the whole story about Sarah Lawrence, and a passing mention of two college mates who roomed with her.
The worst part about the novel was the introduction of Olivia Grace. ANOTHER kid who doesn't know she's a princess? And to keep it hidden from everyone for 12 years? That's super low, even for testicular cancer-stricken Philip. Honestly, if I found out that
The only good thing in this entire book was Michael.
And what I disliked, mainly- Mia's immaturity, the absence of any real conflict, half-handed plot points, the antagonists (JP AGAIN, REALLY?)
This book was written with the sole intention of introducing a new character, Olivia Grace, to make way for a new YA series. In that, it has succeeded; but of its own standing, this story hath no heart. Maybe, instead of writing a new Princess Diaries book, Meg Cabot should have straight-away introduced Olivia Grace in a new book, with things from her POV. Would've been infinitely more interesting to read.

Alrighty, this one is for Cabot's fans of her young adult series The Princess Diaries .
I am one of those aforementioned fans. Love those books!
Yes, all 10 of them.
They're just cute, sweet, funny, and...well, what else do you need?!
So, they start out with a 14 year old Mia learning that she's heir to the Genovian throne, and then follow her through the years as she grows from a gawky girl to a beautiful princess.
Anyway, fans (like me!) were thrilled to find out that Cabot was writing another book about Mia, and especially excited to find out that this one was for adults!
Wheeee!
But it's not really adult-adult, because this is probably the cleanest adult novel I've read in FOREVER. As in, no cursing and no sex.
Well, Mia & Michael have sex. But it's off-page, and alluded to like there are kids in the room...if you know what I mean? Which is fine, because it sort of keeps with the theme of the other books.
Anyway, the romance part is very sweetly done. They're a loving couple with a good sense of humor, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them.
As you probably guess from the title, this one centers around her wedding to Micheal, but that's not the only BIG news! Plenty of other potentially disastrous extremely interesting things happen, and Mia handles them all with her typical flair.
It's also still told in diary form! Mia once again picks up her pen to write, only this time, it's because her doctor thinks it may help her relieve stress that's causing her eye to twitch.
More than likely, twitchy eye is due to her grandmother...just sayin'.
For those of you who have only watched the movies, Julie Andrews' character is NOTHING like the smoking, boozing, offensive grandmother in the books.
I love her so much!
Anyhoo, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who wants to read this one, but I will say that all the old familiar faces do show up. Lilly, Tina, JP, & Boris to name a few. And there will be a new face that pops up, as well.
So. If you've been dying to know what happens to Mia next, I really think you're gonna enjoy the hell out of this one!

A lot of readers when asked what books first got them into reading will say Harry Potter or Twilight but for me it was The Princess Diaries when I was 12 years old. It was an experience that I remember till this day, 9 years later, it got me hooked and never let me go. I’ve read and reread these books so many times that I have lost count years ago.
So you can imagine my excitement when I heard that Meg was releasing a new one, I think I actually squealed and started going “ Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God” non stop. hahaha
Okay, so this time around we see a 26 year old Mia and what really impressed me is how Meg managed to make her the same Mia we were used to, just a decade older, that quirky personality and hypochondriac to the core! hahahah And the gang! They're all there! Some have a future that I did not expect, like Boris o.O, did not see that coming. And oh my God the interactions involving Lily and a certain someone were hilarious
And Michael, oh Michael you need a paragraph just for you. He was amazing as always and hilarious, he made me laugh so many times in this book, there were the medical tips for twitching eyelids, all that smoke and silly proudness of being a hooligan. For me, he was the star, I kept wanting for more and more scenes with him and trust me, there are plenty, just not enough, never enough.
Meg gave us fans something we always wished for but never dared to dream. So thank you, thank you so much.

Can't believe that this series is over!! I really really liked this book but it maybe had a little TOO much going on.. That's the only reason why I took away half a star. I loved getting to see Mia all grown up and getting married. I loved finding out where all her high school buddies were at and who were still together and all that. There was talk that there MAY be another Princess Diaries adult book and I really hope that's true! I'd read books about Mia forever.

Mia is now twenty-six years old. She's come far from her teen years and has proven to be a wonderful princess of Genovia. She has wonderful supportive friends, a job she loves, a loving but meddling family and Michael, her high school sweetheart. Then she finds out something about her father that could change her life forever.
I pretty much devoured this one. Written in a diary style, it includes written diary entries in Mia's narrative style. There's also snippets from newspapers, Internet articles and my favourite one of all text messages. So many funny bits, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Not only does Meg Cabot get into the heart and soul of her main character, but she also gives sunny personalities to the secondary characters. Mia's two best friends have been there from the beginning and I love how different they each are yet they are both so supportive and loving towards Mia. Lily and Tina are just the best fictional friends you could ask for. Then there's Michael who is still the smartest, yet very wily and flirty at the same time. His emoii stories made me laugh out loud too. Can I also say how romantic his proposal to Mia was?? AHH SO CUTE *swoons* I don't know if I should comment about Mia's Grandmere because some of the things she said made me angry, but I have to remind myself she's also fictional.
Reading Royal Wedding brought me back to my teen years and I loved every minute of it! If you haven't read this series yet, give it a go..I know you'll laugh out loud as much as I did.

Mia is now twenty-six years old. She's come far from her teen years and has proven to be a wonderful princess of Genovia. She has wonderful supportive friends, a job she loves, a loving but meddling family and Michael, her high school sweetheart. Then she finds out something about her father that could change her life forever.
I pretty much devoured this one. Written in a diary style, it includes written diary entries in Mia's narrative style. There's also snippets from newspapers, Internet articles and my favourite one of all text messages. So many funny bits, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Not only does Meg Cabot get into the heart and soul of her main character, but she also gives sunny personalities to the secondary characters. Mia's two best friends have been there from the beginning and I love how different they each are yet they are both so supportive and loving towards Mia. Lily and Tina are just the best fictional friends you could ask for. Then there's Michael who is still the smartest, yet very wily and flirty at the same time. His emoii stories made me laugh out loud too. Can I also say how romantic his proposal to Mia was?? AHH SO CUTE *swoons* I don't know if I should comment about Mia's Grandmere because some of the things she said made me angry, but I have to remind myself she's also fictional.
Reading Royal Wedding brought me back to my teen years and I loved every minute of it! If you haven't read this series yet, give it a go..I know you'll laugh out loud as much as I did.

Everything that I wished for and more! MADE OF SO MUCH AWESOME!!! I can't imagine any fan of the Princess Diaries being disappointed with this. I AM SO HAPPY :')
Mia is just as sassy, hilarious and bumbly as she was in high school. Michael is still a dream and every girl's fantasy. (His emojis cracked me up every time, I can't even.) Grandmere continues with her Sidecar swilling and being obnoxiously rude. Lilly, Tina and co. remain supportive of our favourite Genovian princess. And the proposal + wedding... AWW.

This book is everything!
It's finally happening guys - one of the fave literary couples from my childhood is getting married!!
There are not enough happy dance gifs in the world to express how awesome this book was. Not only was it a trip down memory lane, but it was also filled with spot-on humor and heartwarming moments that made me want to laugh and cry happy tears into a bowl of ice-cream...and happy dance some more! :)

This book can aptly be summed up in Paulo’s wise words:
For this is exactly what Her Royal Highness Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo does in Book #11 of The Princess Diaries.
She whines. Ad nauseum.
Let’s just recheck why Princess Mia should be happy with her lot in life:
a) She is a Princess. An honest-to-goodness tiara-wearing Princess.
b) She lives in what is rightly touted as the most vibrant and exciting city in the world, New York.
c) She is having a steady and stable relationship with the impossibly perfect Michael Moscovitz (who loves her to mushy bits, wants to take a bullet for her, keeps her happy in the bedroom, is a self-made multimillionaire, whisks her off to exotic private beaches AND makes customized emojis for her).
d) She has a support system teeming with caring (yes, grandmère counts in her own twisted way) relatives, astute friends and good ol’ Lars for a bodyguard.
e) She has just been proposed to by aforementioned Geek God/ Alpha Male/ Uncrowned Prince of Evolved Men, Michael Moscovitz.
f) Did I mention that she is a FRIKKIN’ PRINCESS?!?
But is Mia happy?
No.
Mia whines and whinges and wonders why everything happens to her. (Yeah, Mia…my heart bleeds for your plight)
I hate lashing out at a series that was very dear to me. Meg Cabot’s writing was my introduction to the world of YA Lit and I devoured all her books with glee. Mia was an endearing teen heroine. I adored the first three instalments of The Princess Diaries . She was a tall, clumsy, fourteen year old with a surfboard chestline, a triangular hairstyle and a grandmother straight from Gitanes-scented hell. For such a girl to be suddenly thrust into the limelight and freak out was understandable. Her rantings, ravings and panic attacks made complete sense.
But not now.
Mia at an accomplished twenty-six doesn’t sound any different from fourteen year old Mia. And that rankled.
PET PEEVE #2 :
The only bits that I did like involved Michael Moscovitz (continuing to make ladies’ hearts go bip-di-boom) and an unexpected twist involving a new character who was instantly likeable.
To sum it up, I do love a happy ending. But I think I already got that in Book 10. This one, I could have done without.

Amazing, incredible, fabulous, wonderful, excellent...
I honestly loved every single page of this book. Not only was I amazed to go back into this royal universe I'd read about years ago, I also thought every part of it was really well-thought.
The first thing I loved was how, after all these years, Mia is still the same girl we know, except older. She's still funny, quirky, nerdy and lovable, which made me feel like I had just stopped reading the last book. I honestly burst out laughing many times while reading, because her honesty or her comments were just too funny. She and Michael were easily recognizable - as well as the other characters, to be honest - and it didn't feel the slightest bit weird to see them get on with their lives and be real adults. Their love is still extremely strong and while this novel didn't feel like a romance, it still has loads of swoon-worthy moments that I enjoyed very much.
As for the plot, I honestly have no idea how Cabot could still think of such an amazing plot. Really, after having written ten books about a young princess's life, you'd think she'd have ran out of good ideas, but here's the truth: she's far from that. Everything about Genovia and being a princess was realistic and interesting, and the many plot twists made my reading experience very pleasant. Though I could easily have been spoiled about some of them - I mean, the title is a pretty big clue that I, being stupid, didn't think of - I wasn't and I was surprised many times while reading.
Seriously, I recommend this book to everyone. I even considered recommending it to my mother, although it's far from her favourite genre, aka historical fiction. It will make you laugh and smile like no other book and we all know that's what you want.

Though the book is named as 'royal wedding', there is no much details about the how they plan their wedding.
The book has two major conflict situations which was nearly unexpected...
And the cover is so different to the previous books. I would rather like if this had a cover similar to the other books in this series.

Really, the three stars are only out of respect for Olivia and Grandmère and Tina, because seriously, this book was Just No.
Mia mocks her teenage self for being too self absorbed while maintaining the same annoying quality to this day? Just No.
Mia still gets weirdly panicked thinking Michael is going to break up with her after all these years? Just No.
Mr. G dying just for the sake of a lazyass rekindled love storyline? Just No.
Mia still talks about Tina in a condescending way even though they've grown up and she's clearly in pain and is also a medical student? Just No.
Lilly and Lars? Just No.
Helen and Philippe getting back together out of nowhere because Philippe had another secret daughter and therefore was more complex than Helen had realized? Just No.
Philippe abnegating? Just No.
Helen moving to Genovia because of Philipe? Just No.
The whole flippant baby business? Just No.
Mia considering Lilly as godmother and not Tina? Just No. (actually, Mia didn't reach out to Tina at all throughout this whole book. Tina, as usual, had to do the job.)
Boris is a superstar. Just No.
Olivia. Ok, she was actually kind of great. Which makes it worse, because this entire book felt so weak and… unnecessary. Not that books should be ~necessary~, per say, but I feel like the 15 year anniversary of the Princess Diaries books would be much better if she had released a novella telling the story of Mia getting engaged and a bit of a cliffhanger about her having a secret sister. Then all of the rest of the things that happened in this book could happen in the course of Olivia's series and in a much better written and handled way. (Not the horrible stuff, though, such as Lilly and Lars. Eugh, seriously, what was that??)
Anyway. Just felt like lazy writing. I was sad at first, then I got frustrated, then I got angry, and now I'm going back to being sad.

So very adorable. We got Moa as an adult but she's still totally Mia :) several new story lines that could be expanded the author wants to down the road but also nicely tied up as well! Michael feeeeeeeels, as always :)

When I first heard that Meg Cabot would be returning to the Princess Diaries' world in a new, adult book, I was so excited. As I'd grown up with Mia, I could wait to see how she was handling adulthood, and Royal Wedding was absolutely wonderful!
In Royal Wedding, we return to the life of a 26 year old Princess Mia, who is in a wonderful relationship with Michael, who later becomes her fiancé (as the title suggests), is dealing with helping her father rule Genovia, and overcoming some quite major issues - namely discovering that she has a long lost 12 year old half sister, Olivia. The past few years have been really good for Mia. She's secure in her relationship with Michael, even with the paparazzi questioning why they aren't engaged, and is running a community centre for teens in honour of her late stepfather. However, problems start coming thick and fast. Her father, Philippe, has been arrested for speeding, and is facing harsh political opposition, the paparazzi are hounding her about everything from her relationship to her political views, she has a stalker who seems quite crazy, and then there's the unbelievable announcement that she has a half sister, living only 50 miles away in New Jersey. Oh, and also something else, but that's quite spoilery - I can safely say it's something worth waiting to read for.
Considering I only read book 1 last week, it was very weird to jump between the events of them both. However, I'm really pleased with how things have transpired in the meantime, and even though I know what will happen in the future, I'm still looking forward to reading books 2-10. Both this book and From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess cover the same time period, so there is some overlap. It was nice to see both Mia's and Olivia's thoughts on discovering they were sisters, and I'm not actually sure who's voice I preferred. As said earlier, this book is classified as adult, as Mia is now 26, in a committed relationship, etc. However, there were no explicit scenes as such, just allusions to sexual themes, so I think older teenagers would have no problem reading it.
Mia and Michael have always been one of my all time OTPs, and to see them so happy in this book was a dream come true. Because of the events of this book, I'm actually desperate for book 12, even though I finished Royal Wedding less than an hour ago. The romance was exactly as I'd imagined it would be between Mia and Michael as adults, and I'm so happy with where they are in their lives. We also saw many old faces from the original series, including Lilly, Tina, Lana, Lars, etc., all of whom were perfect companions for Mia.
Her family was just as wacky as always. Clarisse will always have a soft spot in my heart, and quotes of hers such as 'But I don't have my eyebrows on! I can't meet my only other grand-children with no eyebrows.' (p323) endeared her even more. Developments between Mia's parents ensured they'd both be in her life in further books. Knowing that Mia will have a full family unit of parents, grandmother, half-siblings, and a new husband to help her with her future in Genovia makes me sure she'll be perfectly fine!
Overall, I could not have asked for a more wonderful return to Mia's life. Being the 15th anniversary year of The Princess Diaries release, Royal Wedding has come at the perfect time, and Cabot should be very proud of her work over the years. All the times I imagined the marriage of our heroine and hero throughout this series, I did not see this coming. It is as adorable as all the rest of the books but the ‘addition’ is a wonderful surprise!

Fact: I finished this three weeks ago. And read it about 4 times more.
Its like Ms. Cabot managed to fit my entire childhood in just one book (which she essentially did). And boy, did she do a good job of it.
(Now, all I need is that seventh Mediator book, and I'm pretty sure I can die a happy woman)
I was 10 when I read the first book. My uncle used to work in the accounts department of a really popular bookshop, so he saw this on their bookshelves and thought that I might like it. I would like to say that I got to reading right away, but that would be a complete lie since I read it only six months later.
What? I wanted to finish the Mallory Towers series before I jumped into anything else.
But the moment I started it, there was no turning back. Pretty soon, the series became the Bible of my preteen years, which retrospectively, wasn't exactly a good thing since Mia has her moments of utter foolishness and over thinks certain situations and needlessly makes herself paranoid, but it teach me about the kind of people out there and the kind of guys I should hope for, which I guess was a good thing .
In this book, we meet the Mia of our childhood: funny, friendly,clueless and only slightly more mature. She's still someone I would love to have as a best friend. But things arent the same; Tina and Boris arent a thing anymore (*sniff*), Lily and Kenny arent a thing anymore (eh, his days were numbered anyway) and .
But then again, Michael is still extremely hot and I would still totally jump his bones if he weren't fictional (here is where my inner lovesick fangirl screams "DONT REMIND ME!"). And oh, JP is still an ass. Jus' sayin'. Guess some things never change.
Although, I wasnt expected that little...er...surprise at the end. I wasnt expecting it, so I was as taken aback as Mia, but thinking about it, it was pretty cute actually.
In short, I cried like a baby when I finished the book, I think I'm tearing up a little now and I have no clue how to end this. I still read the tenth book 4 times a year and it never gets old and now I have another book to re-read forever alongside it. So thank you, Ms. Cabot, for this extended ending of some of my favorite characters of all time. And thank you for my childhood.

Reread March 31st 2017 because sometimes you just need to TREAT YO SELF. Just as hilarious and heartwarming and shippy as I remember. But I forgot how much I need another. (MEG, WRITE ME ANOTHER ONE)

So. I've gone and done it again, I've binge-read another of Meg's books. Why am I still doing this at the age of 26?
I must say, Meg's done a good job of recreating the style of the original series just enough for the reader to recognise Mia, but without the teenage angst and drama. However, the plot is WAY over the top. I hate that everyone is rich and has a meaningful career, I especially hate that Michael is a multibillionaire. I hate that Olivia's uncle and aunt are some friggin Dursleys, completely heartless and inhuman. I hate Michael's proposal - he's supoosed to be too smart to be this cheesy. And I hate Olivia as a character. Is she five or forty? I can't tell, really. Still, Meg's flippant tone always cracks me up and I liked some of the plot twists.
And one more thing: has Mia always been such a half-assed vegetarian? Not cool.
And you know what I hate the most? That I actually CARE about any of this. I'm a disgrace.

Puns, sarcasm, feminism and shading the misognists aka classic Princess Diaries. Bonus mentions of (/gasps) sex because this ain't for kiddies no more.
Admittedly, I wouldn't say The Princess Diaries is my favourite Cabot series (for those curious, it's The Mediator because when I was a kiddie, hot ghosts just did it for me ok. Don't judge me. I've since learnt that royalty and money can get you much further duh). Mia, with her "relatable" narrative voice, full of lists and puns and a bounty of second hand embarrassment missed the endearing mark for me. Turns out, over-relatabilty can turn a girl off. But there's no denying that her antics are completely enjoyable to read, no matter how suspiciously dramatic they are.
I must say, her narrative voice is hella consistent (consistently dramatic, which in turn births annoyance), especially for book 11/1st in an adult spinoff. I'm going to take a leap and say, for a 26 year old, I still get flashbacks of her 14 yr old "voice". I'm not condemning her for her lack of maturity or whatever the fuck is expected of an "adult". But I feel compelled to point out that in comparison to other protagonists around that age range, she is still written with the dramatic flair of a "teen" (or the fictional equivalent of your teenager voice, minus the swearing because god forbid we taint our tongues with such words).
The best element to this series will always be its promotion of feminism and equality, its condemnation of sexism and misogyny and its shade at diversification as a "trend". It really addresses the double standards when it comes to women and men in the media. Caught with your bf coming out the next day? Well, you become "Princess of Gen-Ho-via". Disgusting and absolutely appalling, and yet that's the reality we sadly live in. Michael is completely against sexism and all for equality and boy, does that make me want to forgive him for not being royal (fear not, his loaded now $$$. Haha, I kid).
When I heard "adult" spinoff, I'll admit, I expected 1) something tackling stigmatic issues banned from YA or 2) sex and finally, a fuck or two (the word and the meaning, take em both). We get neither. Pop culture wise, this book will be completely dated. You get some extremely current references with are concurrent with society. We're talking measly things like snapchat, Kate Middleton lol, Friday Night Lights but then we also talk about issues such as the GFC, a nation slipping into recession and lack of tourism and hence profit to sustain the economy and refugees. Sex is definitely discussed and references and there's a whole lot of innuendoes. Is there anything explicit? Nope. I'd say we haven't entirely ventured into the realm of "adult" fiction, as of yet. Expletives are still redacted. Like quite literally with a big "[REDACTED]". I had to fill them in myself and god knows I have the filthiest mouth in the world and most probably took the expletives a notch or two up. In that manner? Still censored. But I suppose this is a "ladylike" diary so...
Overall, completely sweet. Made me nostalgic. Ends with so much more room for exploration. Will probably continue on, duh, seeing as it's the most profitable series out there. You see, kids, Princess Mia has grown up, and so have we, who shared her journey. There's more of her to come (and let's just say, we're all at the age where we're raking in the dollar bills so we can definitely afford to pay for it LOL).

I missed this series so much. After reading this book, I realized how much I missed this series. I read this series thee years ago and then I joined Goodreads a year later. I loved the characters and still do and I am so glad I got to read this book. I am so happy with everything that happened in this book and more than satisfied with the ending.
If you haven't heard about the Princess Diaries, where have you been???? It's about a girl named Mia, who lived with her mother. One day, she finds out that her father is the Prince of Genovia and that she is the princess. Her life changes in one day and she doesn't know what to do. While dealing with these things, she finds out that her mother and algebra teacher are dating. So the Princess Diaries is basically all of her teen life and how she deals with these problems and much more.
The Royal Wedding takes place after the Princess Diaries, so if you haven't read the series, don't read this book. But if you have, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! It has almost all the characters from the Princess Diaries but they are all mature adults. It shows how much they moved in life and what position they are in. I really loved this, although some parts were cliche. It's funny how in this book, Mia's friend mentions that her life is kinda cliche.
Mia hasn't changed a bit, she is still funny and obnoxious but she is much more mature. Micheal... He hasn't changed a bit either, and I loved his dialogue in this book. I loved how we got to see text messages between each of the characters and it was so interesting. I felt like I was going back in time and reading this three years ago. Lily is still sassy and funny, just the way I like her, and I love how she says everything that she thinks.
There were so many crazy things that occurred in this book and I recommend this 100% it if you've read the Princess Diaries, and if you haven't, I recommend it. This romantic, funny, unique novel will keep you hungry for more. Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop until you finish the whole book. It's one of those books that stick with you for the rest of your life. I highly recommend this book and believe that you will enjoy it as much as I did. So GO READ IT!!!!!!!

Oh god, no I can't even sugarcoat it. This was terrible.
I was only mildly disappointed up until 2/3 of the way through, at which point something happened rather similar to what you might find occurring on a highway in rush-hour traffic. Something not so terrible in itself (well...) but acting like that wanker texting while driving who doesn't notice everyone has stopped and then BAM crashes into the guy in front and then causes a whole ten-car pile up*.
Just for clarity: The wanker text-driving = the "big reveal" that
The cars piling up behind = everything else in the book, ranging from how damn spoiled Mia actually is, the hideousness of reading about her sex-life in detail yet finding all swear words literally [REDACTED], the diabolically cringe-worthy attempts to address current affairs, the even more diabolically painful attempts to address racial politics... Alltogether added up to more of a trainwreck than a car crash to be honest.
And I loved these books as a kid. All of them, everything Meg Cabot wrote. This was the worst possible ending. I regret everything.
*No, I have not actually been in this situation but in Auckland it's a pretty plausible scenario.

You should all know that The Princess Diaries books were the first YA books I ever read.
That was before I even knew YA was a genre. I’d already seen the movies, and I think maybe they re-released the books, because when I was about twelve I bought all ten and read them over and over.
I absolutely loved Mia.
She was my absolute role model and hero. SO IMAGINE MY ABSOLUTE PLEASURE THAT NOT ONLY WERE THEY PUBLISHING A NEW BOOK, BUT THAT IT LANDED ON MY DOORSTEP.
So anyway, let’s get to the reasons why you need this book in your life.
1. Because I said.
That’s reason enough, right?
2. Feminism
I LOVED the way Mia absolutely slammed any kind of misogyny. It was totally awesome, and something I love about this whole series.
3. On a related note, Lilly.
She’s just as sassy as before! If you’re not familiar with the series (and you have some catching up to do, believe me!) you’ll appreciate her wit and even more feministical feminism.
4. On another related note, the return of Mia’s other friends!
Like Tina Hakim Baba, for example, the romance book lover. She’s just as dramatic and funny as before, and I’m SO glad they’re still friends.
Oh, also, Boris comes back. Except now he’s practically Justin Bieber.
5. GRANDMERE.
Book Grandmere is NOT like this. In fact she’s the opposite. She smokes and she drinks and she’s completely a nightmare and also hilarious.
6. Wish fulfillment, let’s be honest.
Even more so in this one than in the rest. I mean, for goodness’ sake, Mia is a PRINCESS and Michael is a MILLIONAIRE and she gets proposed to on an ISLAND and also there are lots of other squee-worthy surprises.
Which, come to think of it…
7. THE SQUEE-WORTHY SURPRISES.
THERE WAS A LOT OF SQUEEING, BELIEVE ME. AND YOU’LL JUST HAVE TO TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT YOU’LL LOVE IT.
8. Have I mentioned Michael yet?
Well, not that Michael. He wasn’t very exciting (and how DARE they break up my ship in the second movie??? How dare Nicholas steal Mia away from MICHAEL??).
But BOOK MICHAEL…he is impressive. And this time Meg Cabot doesn’t have to censor the innuendos.
9. THE TEXT MESSAGES
Quite a chunk of the book is written in text messages back and forth between Mia and others. They are HILARIOUS and broke it up a bit. I do love non-traditional writing formats.
10. The Nostalgia
I mean, come on, people, I LOVE Princess Diaries. And even though this installment is adult (which I don’t usually read) I’m so invested in these characters that of COURSE I made an exception.
11. The HUMOUR.
These books – ALL of them – are just so funny. In part that’s because of Mia’s fantastic voice, which sounds very similar to her teenage voice but I didn’t mind at all. If you’re a writer trying to discover how to write voice, this is how you do it.
And just the situations that she gets into…I mean, Meg Cabot is a genius for humour.
12. OH OH AND THE LITTLE SISTER PLOTLINE
IN FACT, Meg Cabot actually wrote a book about her as well. This little girl (Olivia) is the most adorable thing in the world and I loved her to pieces.
13. How to cope with the media 101.
Mia’s gotten a LITTLE better with it over the years. She’s not as nervous. In fact, she’s grown into a butt-kicking woman, and the butts she’s kicking (the media) kind of deserve it. Despite paparazzi every which way, and several scandals threatening to ruin everything, Mia keeps her head above water and deals with it (mostly) in the best possible way.
14. The HILARIOUS innuendos.
For an adult book it was still pretty clean. I mean, all the swear words were [REDACTED] (except for the excellent hybrid insult “twunt”) and there were no actual bedroom scenes – only references to the Fireman game and…other things.
Which were hilarious, because we started off with Mia as an awkward 14-year-old.
15. Excellent pop culture references, as per usual.
And I actually UNDERSTOOD these ones! A lot of the references in the original books are from the nineties, when I was either 1) not born or 2) crawling around on the floor somewhere. So that was nice.
16. Some interesting developments with Mia’s parents.
Also – *weeps* – we find out on page 1 that Frank Gianini (aka Mia’s step-father) has died. Which is very sad.
I won’t say anymore but it’s very INTRIGUING.
17. Just such a nice fluffy read, you know?
Which is GOOD every now and then.
18. Let’s end by saying how much of an awesome character Mia is. Again. Because I cannot say it enough.
I’M JUST SO HAPPY WITH THIS BOOK.
