One year after leaving her cheating boyfriend, Laney Holden still can’t seem to catch a break with men. After a year of blind dates that go nowhere, she grows jaded against the male race, even with the choice men at work. When her best friend comes up with a new plan for her love life, Laney follows along, just hoping to find something different. But what waits for her behind the door of room 237 is nothing like she ever expected.
"The Club" is the first of three novellas in the Room 237 Series.
I was lucky enough to download this on a promotional offer and got it for free, but would happily have paid for it. Emma has written a clever plot around Laney, who has been single for a year and desperately needs to blow off some steam. She has her eye on four guys in her office, Dylan, Jasper, Miles and Noah, but her best friend Becca surprises her one night and takes her to "The Club." It's a high class, members only establishment where single people, who have been stringently vetted, meet for sex. After passing their entry requirements and paying the high price fee to go with the exclusivity of "The Club" Laney is asked to head to room 237 and put on a blindfold. She does not see the man who ask her to meet him, but takes a risk and heads up and does as she is told and has a very enjoyable hot night with him. He asks her to take the next day to make a decision if she will "see" him again, despite still not knowing what he looks like, she agrees. Despite him having told her his name is Alex, you can't help wondering if he is in fact one of her top four at work. Recommended quick and hot romance read - I'm off to get book two!
I want my key to Room 237! Sexy, intelligent, and funny.
To say that the club is a hot and sexy read would be nothing short of failing to express to you how fantastically HOT and sexy this book really is. Not only is it a wonderful little piece of erotica, but it is an interesting and intelligently written story. It's unlike any other erotica story I've read. You won't find the typical CEO billionaire in this story, yawn, but what you do find is the mystery of what lies behind Room 237. I think any woman can relate to Laney and her circumstances. There were so many times when reading this book that I laughed out loud, which I found very refreshing and quickly made The Club one of my favorite books. I simply cannot wait for the rest of the series to be released, not only for all the reasons above, but also because the mystery behind Room 237 is driving me mad! You MUST read this book!
***I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.***
The writing was good with a smooth flow. The concept of "The Club" was great. Laney was a great character too. I enjoyed her "personality" and the sarcasm she seemed to bubble with. The deep voice adds to the picture in my mind of Alex - using the description of the stubble and the hairy chest with muscle.. I loved how Laney and Alex hooked up and the use of the blindfold added so much to it. It allowed for the descriptions to take hold and improve the story in the reader's mind. The ending leaves you with a hook, wanting more! - please tell me there will be more to come? I would love to see more Laney and Alex and I'm deep down hoping that Dylan is involved somehow... (Can't help it, he just calls to me with his quiet demeanor and cute butt)...
The Club is Emma Payne’s debut novella and the first in the Room 237 Series. I loved Laney’s character, and how the story is told from her witty, first person perspective. Her character evolves on her journey to try and find a man to take care of her needs. Though she starts out as a sarcastic, jaded woman who overanalyzes everything, she’s extremely relatable and likeable. Every woman could relate to her and most have problem been in her position before. For a debut novella, the writing was smooth and flowed nicely. The characters were rich and fully developed. The cliffhanger at the end is just enough to whet my appetite for more! I can’t wait to read the next novella in the series and find out more about room 237!
I absolutely loved this book! The main character, Laney, has been in a 'dry' spell for about a year and her best friend Becca feels it is time for them to make some changes. Laney sees herself as the plain Jane, whereas she feels Becca is the pretty one. They decide to apply to become members of a private club in hopes of changing their love lives. This book by Emma Payne, is fun, hot, and unpredictable! I cannot wait for more from this author.
This is a short fast paced read that is intriguing and keeps you interested. The characters are detailed and interact remarkably well. Laney feels inadequate, has trust issues, over analysis's everything and is sexually frustrated! Can room 237 at the club help resolve her issues and who is the mysterious Alex? Looking forward to more in Laney's journey and from this talented author.
I was hesitant at first but the description intrigued me. What I found in the pages to this opener for this series was a pleasant surprise. Not only full of fun heat and sauciness, but an actual story with characters that engage you. If you're looking for a quick fun read to laze away with on an empty afternoon, I highly recommend this book.
Into a year-long dry spell, Laney is single-single. She asks her best friend Becca if she's busy:
“So do you have any plans tonight? Do you want to see a movie?”
“A girl-date on a Saturday night? No way. That’s a Saturday morning thing. I’m not going to pay $12 for a ticket and $30 for popcorn so I can sit in a movie theater with a bunch of oversexed yet still horny and obnoxious teenagers. All they do is talk over the movie, scream, laugh, or whatever they need to do to be louder than their idiot friend sitting next to them.”
“That’s when you know you’re old,” I say. “You suddenly figure out that matinees make financial sense.”
But Becca has a different idea for Laney. She drags her to The Club. Becca learned about The Club through another friend's whispers in a deserted stairwell.
Emma Payne's The Club (Room 237 Series, Book One) is a chatty novella. Especially for such a short work, it offers fun and excitement.
First book in series is WOW!! Laney is this sweet girl that is having a bad dry spell (no sex). After having her ex cheat on her, while being together 2 years. She has ben without a man almost 2 years, and her best-friend Becca wants to fix that. Becca's idea is they both join the exclusive club and have some entertainment. This was a fun read, and the mystery of the man that is behind room 237. Emma Payne does a great job at giving us erotica story with a mystery lover in room 237!! We got 2 more books to enjoy reading, till we discover who our mystery lover. GREAT SERIES !! I recommend to all my erotica romance readers!!
I loved this book. From the moment I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Laney is quite the character. She is funny and had me laughing out loud. I am not one to give details about the story so I will leave it at that. I will say I highly recommend this book...Emma did a great job!!! AND I can't wait for the next book.
***I won a copy of this book in the Authors & Reviewers Group's 2014 Birthday Bash Giveaway. Thank you to all the authors, members, and Mods who made the event so successful.***
This was a very hot and sexy read and what I loved the most is I didn't find a hot billionaire in it. Yes the members of The Club had money but it wasn't about their financial statues, and all the members were equals. I thought this was a great and relatively relatable story that was well written. I love the mystery behind room 237 and Alex and I can't wait to explore more in the next book.
Laney was a great character that was easy to relate to. This is a great introduction in the scene. The troubles, fear and fantasy she experienced are something everyone has. It is great book! I highly recommend it!
This is a gem of a series and a must read! It consists of 3 novellas which I tore through in an evening. the Club is sure to become an erotica reader favorite! The heroine's sarcastic wit is so entertaining and the sex is smoking hot! The story is really interesting and the supporting characters are fabulous! There are a variety of sexual adventures detailed as the H/h experiment with activities they have always been curious about. There is a magical blend of humor, romance, mystery, personal growth and sensuality that makes this book a winner!
The Club is about a young woman who, after catching her boyfriend cheating on her, has a year long sexual drought. Her wacky best friend drags her to a high end sex club and she ends up with a very sexy partner but he keeps her blindfolded so she has no idea what he looks like. It ends as a somewhat cliffhanger but picks up without missing a beat in book 2.
This story is turning out to be very interesting. I have an idea of who Alex is (at least I'm hoping it's a certain someone - but the fact that it could be anyone is what's making me want more!) Laney, in the beginning especially, has very low self esteem and is very picky with her men and it comes off as a bit annoying to me. Once the story moves along and she's not in her head so much, I find that I am able to stomach her and continue on with the story. The hot sex helped too!!! And I look forward to the next story in this trilogy.
Laney was cheated on and her self esteem is shot. She is sexually frustrated. Her friend convinced her to join a club for sex. Alex finds her but insist she wear a blindfold. She never sees his face. Next book here I come.
Great storyline. Laney has lost her mojo after her boyfriend now ex-boyfriend cheated on her. Her best friend Becca decides to help Laney out and they decide to go to The Club. Where your desires can and will be met. Cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
This is one of the best erotica romance books that I have read! I enjoyed the characters as well as the lead up to Laney joining The Club. I look forward to reading the rest of the story.
I liked the premise of this book. Laney had been in a sex drought for over a year since she broke up with her cheating ex. Her friend persuades her to signing up for a sex club. On her first night she meets a man who she never sees, named Alex who blindfolds her during each of their encounters. They grow to get to know one another and have amazing sex. But she's constantly wondering who he could be. She also has four men at work who she's constantly had crushes on. Miles, Dylan, Jasper, and Noah. She begins to think that maybe one of them is her secret lover. I liked that Laney was relatable and the right amount of awkward. She wasn't some bombshell siren, just a normal looking and acting woman. Alex was awesome too. Caring and sexy but totally into giving Laney what she wanted.
The main character is whiney, needy, and desperate. The first half of the book is her not being happy with life because her year long dry spell. Then a couple chapters of her unimaginative sex one night in a club and she's instantly falling for a guy shes never seen and knows nothing about. Main character has a lack of depth and personality outside her desperation for sex.
