This book is a propulsive journey into the fantastical world of magic where all is not what it seems and good versus evil is a real struggle. Jayne Thorne, the librarian turned CIA agent, is front and center, trying to keep her father safe from forces that keep coming against him and to find the force that is controlling her mother Ruth and making her work on the side of evil. There are rogues who are supposed to assist the good guys but who have their own power and may or may not be cooperative. There are children who have magical powers who need to be rescued from the evil forces. There are numerous complications in the plot that keep Jayne and her team from directly confronting the enemies right away. The trip into this magical world is expertly crafted and made me want to keep reading long past my bedtime to see what maniacal force Jayne would have to face next and how she would overcome the darkness that constantly seemed to surround her. The characters are well portrayed and dynamic, entertaining in their brilliant and sharp dialogue that sometimes lent a humorous interlude to the battles that were on the forefront. There are some intricate plot threads here that are masterfully woven together into one action-packed and cleverly written page turner. This is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. My recommendation is to enjoy the entire series and get to know a heroine who is multi-layered and as intriguing as the world of magic that she enters at will.

This was an exciting read! I do so enjoy the intricacies of the characters, their complexities. A prime example is Ruth Thorne, once just an inquisitive mind, one who wanted to know all possibilities and slowly come to the conclusion that she and magic were being held back. Everyone around her was a huge disappointment, her very daughters disagreed with her vision but that vision became so skewed, so outside reality, she sought any means to achieve her goal, which included world dominance... Dabbling in magics she knew were forbidden, she will stop at nothing to achieve what her master desires. Oh yes, she has awoken and unleashed something so evil, something that now resides in here, waiting for the opportunity to set free completely. Did she know this would happen? Heck yes! Did she care? Heck no! Is she the only one? Oh absolutely not! Jayne and Sofia had THAT as their mom, it's amazing they turned out as they did. Kind, compassionate, ready to do what needs to be done to stop this mother of theirs, but their emotional insecurities are rife throughout. I loved seeing the cobwebs blow away and them emerging stronger and more resolute.

This book gives me very The Flash vibes, with the Torrent, time travel, a future daughter.... and the effect Tristan has on Jayne, the suave French speaking guy, well that reminded of A Fish called Wanda! Tristan is Jayne's Rogue but they're still trying to find their way, as are Sofia and Cillian, but how cool is it that Rogue's can transform into any creature? There are Master's and there are Rogue's, both fully entwined and not only through the bond, it also has....other connotations, connotations that Sofia and Jayne are not ready to embrace. The slow burn was REALLY slow, so slow yet fraught with innuendos and sizzling undertones, I was ready to put them on a fast train! And with that, the authors achieved their goal, to keep my anticipation at it's peak! These characters take on a life of their own, all of them have their own unique voice, it goes without saying that they've totally captivated me. Quimby as the mad hatter scientist, Vivienne, well she's definitely a force to her own, Amanda, stoic unflappable Amanda, who I absolutely loved seeing laid open, raw and emotional, where the facade she faught so hard to keep intact, crumbles. Henry, he's a true genius inventor, so, yep, all of them!

The Kingdom and Ruth are still a threat, they still need to "acquire" artifacts and Grimoires without raising any red flags, they still need to protect the Torrent and the magic that's leaking out, they still need to find out WHO or WHAT that entity is, yeah, lots to do! Thankfully, with Henry in their camp, it should be easier, right ? Welllll....there are others thwarting them at every turn! The pacing was great, solid, steady and progressive, although I do feel it lost steam a bit in the middle of the book, what with lots of training and getting to know what the other is capable of but overall an enjoyable pace. I do enjoy the way the plot is evolving as are the characters and I'm really looking forward to seeing who will prevail!

Review of eBook

Ruth Thorne, still under the control of an unknown entity within the Torrent, continues her search for the grimoires that will lead to the totems she covets. She knows she is being used, but she is helpless against the monster and its power.

Jayne and Sophia have finally found their father, Henry Thorne, and he’s agreed to accompany his daughters to the Torrent Control Organization. Although Jayne believed that finding her father would solve all the problems, she soon learns that everyone around the man is in danger because Henry is a target for all of Jayne’s enemies.

What wrath will Ruth bring down on the world? Can Jayne and Sofia keep the Torrent from being taken over by evil?

=========

Fourth in the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian series, all the expected characters are in place. The story continues from “The Keeper of Flames”; with sufficient backstory provided for readers new to the series, the book works as a standalone.

Strong, imaginative world-building, a rich magical component, and an exciting plot all work together to pull readers into the story from the outset. Unexpected revelations keep readers guessing as Jayne struggles to find the desperately needed answers.

With realistically portrayed relationships between the characters, readers will find each believable and nuanced. Their magic adds an extra dimension to the narrative; here, as in the earlier tales, the authors ensure that the magic is woven into the story in ways that are fitting for the story and are believable as it relates to the individual characters.

Readers who enjoy fantasy tales or stories of courageous women will find much to appreciate here.

Highly recommended.

I just love the courage of the Thorne sisters, Jayne and Sophie, who work for the CIA as guardians to the torrent, which is being threatened by an evil mage who is within the torrent as well as other groups who want to harness its magic for their own nefarious ends. These are the kingdom and la liberte and the leaders of the two groups are the mother of our Thorne sisters, as well as the mother of the French siblings, the rogue and the mage who are bonded with Jayne. As the girls finally find their father, Henry Thorne who they had believed to have been dead for many years they realised that now they had become even bigger targets for their enemies. And Henry was like a ticking time bomb. Magic was flooding the world and many children were in danger as they had no clue what was happening to them so Sophie and Cillian go out in search of these new adepts before Ruth gets her evil claws on them. Ruth was being manipulated by a wraith who in turn served the mage within the torrent. Meanwhile Jayne and her crew, Tristan and Vivienne as well as Henry travel to Croatia to steal the grimoire which the goddess had told Jayne about and which they needed, however the Liber Linteus was guarded by the Disciples of Gaia, so a massive battle took place. Can the Thorne sisters keep each other safe, as well as the Torrent from being taken over by evil. I just love the massive adventure story and the great fight of good against evil which seems to just be getting worse as evil gets stronger with each book we read. This book made for a truly compelling read.

The Prophecy of The Wind
Joss Walker

Walker’s 4th book in the series is getting down to the nitty gritty, there is a chance the Torrent, the place where magicals harness their magic from, is in danger and Jayne is both the reason and the fix but getting the truth out of her Goddesses is like pulling teeth. In this installation readers will find some new characters both good and evil, a few new enemies, some unlikely new friends and a few ah ha moments and gasps as the plot thickens. The characters are all fantastic, especially Jayne, her sister Sofia, their respective rogues and the other CIA operatives. The plot is still fresh and unique with plenty of edge of your seat and nail biting moments and with just enough hints to the future to peak reader’s interest. Fans of this author, Jennifer Estep and Jayne Ann Krentz will love this series which should be read in order.

Jayne Thorne CIA librarian is up to her ears in enemies, having trouble dealing with her new rogue Vivienne, sister to her nemesis the too sexy for his shirt Tristan and with the newfound discovery that her father is still alive. And to top all that she’s been tasked with decoding the prophecy of a new goddess who’s hinting of things that Jayne doesn’t want to think of. Meanwhile the world is quickly falling apart because of the upheaval in the Torrent, new untried magicals are coming out of the woodwork exposing themselves to the unmagical world, putting themselves and those around them in danger. All in a day in the life of a secret CIA operative.

The story just gets more intense as things move on toward the climatic finish!

Jayne is working with Vivienne to get their bond between master and Rogue worked out but it brings out emotions Jayne doesn’t want out in the open.
With her father, her team is determined to get a new grimoire to aid them in combating Ruth and Tristan’s mother’s terrorist organizations.

Sophia and Cillian are meanwhile working to try and find children who have just found out they have magical abilities since the Torrant is letting magic out into the world. They encounter Ruth and Hans on their first mission and later on encounter Hans and rescue the boy he was after. However, Sophia notices later something which brings back memories and in a
rush does something which allows her to know exactly who this boy is!

Meanwhile there is still the mole that Amanda is baiting with false information until she decides it’s time to capture him and stop him once and for all.

Ruth is busy opening up the Torrant to allow all the
wraiths trapped inside out into the mortal realm so a real battle is looming as we readers are anxiously awaiting the next book to continue this exciting, adrenaline fueled adventure that will keep you turning the pages just as fast as you can to see what happens next!

I enthusiastically recommend you get this entire series for you can’t fully enjoy book four unless you’ve read books one through three first!

This is a great series and I heartily recommend it to one and all!

"The Prophecy of Wind" is a masterful continuation of the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian series that will undoubtedly enthrall readers with its compelling blend of magic and suspense. As the fourth book in the series, it takes the adventure to new heights with Jayne Thorne at the forefront, a librarian turned CIA operative whose life is anything but ordinary. The stakes are higher than ever as magic breaks free into the world, bringing with it a torrent of danger and intrigue.

Jayne's quest becomes deeply personal and increasingly perilous as she navigates a world where her father is a target and every decision can tip the balance between safety and catastrophe. The addition of evolving magical powers and complex relationships, especially between Jayne and her sister Sophia, adds a rich layer of depth to the story, making every twist and turn all the more gripping.

What sets this book apart is the skillful weaving of suspense and character development. Each character is meticulously crafted, driving the plot forward with their unique motivations and challenges. The narrative is a carefully constructed tapestry of conflicts, mysteries, and alliances that keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to see what unfolds next.

Overall, "The Prophecy of Wind" is a brilliantly written, action-packed novel that combines the best elements of fantasy and thriller genres. It's a testament to the authors' imagination and storytelling prowess, delivering a story that is both wildly entertaining and thoughtfully engaging. Whether you're a long-time fan of the series or a newcomer to the magical world of Jayne Thorne, this book is an enthralling read that promises and delivers excitement with every page.

Jayne and Sofia have rescued their dad ... now what? Will he share his scientific advances with the TCO? Sofia and Cillian want to save children who suddenly have magical powers, from Ruth, and train them. Jayne is hunting for another grimoire - with a trapped Goddess. Meanwhile, there is her relationship with Tristan to sort out, and with Vivienne. And if she succeeds, what will be next? This is a thrilling, fast-paced adventure. A page-turner! Looking forward to the next installment! Note there is some steam (nothing explicit), and lots of use of the D word, and “God”. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.

Spies from a secret government organization and powerful magicians/rogues come together in this magically action-packed adventure where it's a continual adjustment in this ongoing magical battle. Strong characters who show growth amidst all the chaos and constant change. Detailed world building.

I’m excited to see what happens in book 5.

More secrets revealed

As Jayne and her team go after another grimore, her sister and Cillian set out to rescue people who are starting to show magical abilities. They want to help them by teaching them how to use their magic so they don't hurt themselves or anyone else. I am really enjoying the characters and storylines in this series and love the twist and turns that keep popping up. I can't wait for the next book.

Joss Walker has done it again. Interweaving all the characters into several important plots. It's so seamless, you don't even realize it. So much science, folklore, and mythology, the possibilities are endless. Walker is certainly ramping up the anticipation of what's to come in future stories. I hope there are many more to come.

I continue to enjoy the series. New developments for both Sophia and Jayne in relationships and in their powers. It is nice to see Jayne realizing the world and everything she is involved with does not rotate around her. More cryptic prophesies, of course, but some resolutions as baby steps forward. Waiting for Book 5 and more powers and prophesies.

I've been reading this series since the first one came out. I absolutely love Jayne Thorne and all of the other characters. This book brought to light so much more of what has been at stake in the series so far. I've enjoyed the relationship developments between characters and love that there is so much more to the plot than the characters love life. Definitely recommend these books.

The more I read about Jayne Thorne the more I like her. I liked learning more about Jayne’s father and her family history. The relationships between Kayne and her team/family are constantly changing and growing and it’s fascinating. It fun reading a book set in the current world but with magic!

I was given an Advanced copy for an honest review of this book.

Is it hot in here? The "personal magic" continues between Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian and secret operative, and her new Rogue's brother Tristan. There is growing tension between Jayne and her new Rogue Vivienne could this involve Tristan? As the trio work through this together, Cillan and Jayne's sister Sofia are growing closer together in more ways than one. Meanwhile Jayne's dad provides answers on how to get a grimoire the TOC needs from a well-protected museum. There is of course lots of magic and Rogue shape shifting. Young people may also join the magical team with the help of TOC. This adds a nice storyline to really beef up the group as the magical power struggle between the Kingdom (Jane’s mom – Ruth), Labelle’s team La Liberetè and TOC continues. Be prepared for lots of shifting, magic, and of course those surprise magical moments.
