Do you really know your neighbours?

Once again, my irresponsible sister has instantly fallen for the wrong guy. Rook seems like the perfect man on first meeting, but even I can see there’s something evil behind his eyes.

And I’m right. It’s been two days since Fern went into his house, and nobody has heard from her since. My husband thinks I’m paranoid, and my neighbours are so obsessed by Rook that they can’t see past their attraction to him. I’m completely and utterly alone in this.

But it gets worse. Not only does he reveal himself to be the man I think he is, but the mystery of my vanishing sister only deepens. The police find nothing wrong, and the neighbours refuse to help, but I know he was the last person to see her. All I can do is take it into my own hands.

And hope I don’t find her dead.

THE KILLER’S HOME is the new psychological thriller from Bristol author AJ Carter, whose books are bursting with mystery, danger, and multiple dark twists.

I will never read anything from this author. All the women in this book made no fucking sense with their choices/decisions. You can EASILY tell they were written by a man!
The ending I fuvking knew it! AND IT MADE NO DAMN SENSE! It was just comical. WHAT WAS THE REASON? THE MOTIVATION? there was none!
Honestly this just annoyed me! I can’t even talk about this.
Erasing this from my memory NOW!!!!!

Well, Wow, just Wow! Impossible to put down.

This book has it all: nail biting suspense, terror, and a totally shocking and surprising ending. Who can you trust, do you know who is capable of the most heinous crimes. Just keep your teenager daughters close. Highly Recommended.

A fast paced read that is truly thrilling! It has some shock factors too! The ending was a little over the top, but I still enjoyed the read!

Was unrealistic. It gave the impression that all women are happy to be controlled by a man, just accepting everything. Very disappointing

The Killer’s Home

Not sure what I think of this story. So much of it is unbelievable and far fetched but it could happen. It was a very fast read and very suspenseful. Just a warning, lots of triggering happenings in here.

Generally speaking, I prefer stories where I don't know who the villain is going in. In this one, we know the villain early on and he watch him grow more and more evil as the story progresses. Now because it's a psychological suspense story I know a big surprise/twist is coming and when it's revealed near the end, in the villain's basement, it was no surprise. There are so few characters that it was pretty obvious to me. The story overall was pretty derivative and stale. The villain was the stereotype of an abusive monster, and was uninteresting with no complexity. There final chapter where Heather reads the diary page I'll admit was unexpected but it didn't redeem the book for me.

7/10 recommend - okkk looking back I should have seen this coming, but I didn’t. A good fast paced read, that definitely kept you on the edge of the seat. But SO over the top and far fetched. I want to say I would never let any of my friends or family act like these characters 🤣

None of this book made sense. I felt nothing for any of the characters. Also was not written great at all. Hate to be harsh but I was mad I read this. The end was also dumb and predictable

My goodness! What can I say without being disparaging? Not much.
Dreadful story. Pathetic characters. Implausible plot. Knowing who the villains are early on doesn't help matters eigher. Portraying women as weak and desperate and downright idiotic - Heather moddy coddling her alcoholic, despicable husband and Fern being a doormat to all her sexual partners, just had me shaking my head and not caring what happened. I'm surprised I finished it. 2 stars

ENG Review: It's getting really hard to talk about A.J Carter's books because each one seems better than the other. This one left me completely hooked with the twists and the way the author grabs us into a story of female vulnerability and pure horror. Two sisters, a neighbor who is not who he thinks he is. Rook appears to be the perfect man, handsome and rich, but something in his eyes betrays him and shows that there is something sinister behind the facade he created. Once again the story is told in two times and from different POVs and with each chapter, a new element, a new punch in the stomach. When one of the sisters disappears, the other tries everything to find her, even though her daughter and her husband devalue the situation. She puts her life at risk and discovers much more than she was prepared for. I don't think anyone is prepared for this ending. I started reading it in the morning and finished it a few hours ago, because you can't stop reading. Another candidate for one of my 2023 favorites in the Psychological Thriller category. It only exists in English, but I'm starting to think that some Portuguesel publisher should translate this author as quickly as possible, it's really worth it.

WOW The Killer's Home a psychological thriller by A. J. Carter absolutely blew me away.

This thriller goes back to what happened before and then to present day, plus it includes the unfound diary of a dead girl which she started writing in 2004.

Heather a librarian has a teenage daughter called Sadie and husband Ben, who has yet to become an established author and turns to alcohol when he is having a writer's block which in turn does not make for a blissful marriage.

Heather has a sister called Fern who has had many fallen relationships in the past. Her last relationship with Caleb after being together for a year ended because he had ended up a cheater just like all the others did too. She ends up leaving him and catches a bus back home to where she is hoping to stay with her sister Heather. Whilst on her journey via bus she is sexually harassed by two men and her knight in shining armour comes to her rescue by the name of Rook a very handsome man.

After safely escorting Fern back home she is pleasantly surprised when he told her that he lived opposite her sister's house.

Heather is suspiscious when she meets Rook for the first time but Fern is looking through rose tinted spectacles as she falls blindly in love with him.

They do say that a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet. There are a lot of amazing twists in this psychological thriller that will leave you breathless.

Just okay, solid 3 stars

As I was reading the thought in my mind is it seems like a man wrote it. I wasn't sure until the end of the book when I read the author's bio. The reason I say that is most women don't think this way and they were very weak characters. Heather continues to coddle her drunken husband, and her bratty daughter. Fern lets men take advantage of her. Not that women never let men use and take advantage of them, but not in this type of situation and to this extent. Also, for me, there is the believability factor and this book fails that test. Especially the "surprise" ending. That's when it jumps the shark for me. Not so bad I stopped reading it, but not interested in reading more from this author.

Rook was a handsome, rich man in the neighborhood. Fern had a teenage daughter and a husband, and sisters living nearby. Her husband Ben was writting a book but liked to get drunk alot but Fern was always there for him. Fern worked at a library but when she had a good chance of getting her dream job , something went wrong-lost the job.Ferns one sister seemed to have dissappeared , but no luck finding her. Fern run into Rook one day and he was so charming she fell in love with him right away. Her and her husband Ben werent doing so good and she thought he had a girlfriend on the side so Rook. So things start to twist and turn from there one. Be prepared for a hide in this one. And a big surprise at the ending too.

This was an edge of your seat thriller with 2 narrators. Heather is the present and Fern is before. Heather and her family live across the street from a huge house but doesn't know the owner or who lives there. At a chance meeting at Fern's apartment she meets Rook, the neighbor and immediately gets a bad feeling about him. One day one of the sisters disappears and the other will stop at nothing to find her. All the characters are flawed but in the end love wins out. A mother's love for her daughter plays a big part in the story. There are so many jaw dropping twists but the final twist is something you'll never see coming. Truly a heart stopping story.

The author gave the plot away very early on when Fern was talking to Rook but the author wrote the character reaction as coming from "Ben". Female characters too weak and relationship between the male characters didn't make sense. Couldn't believe that Ben would be the dominant one in the relationship such that Heather would have to ask him for permission for anything, because he was written as weak and a loser alcoholic pretty much the whole book.

The whole Sadie ending was too much. Heather turning Sadie over to the police so easily, Sadie and Ben both knew the other was involved yet Sadie continued on, etc.

A J Carter has done it again with another thrilling read. I couldn’t put this book down, it’s a real page turner. I really enjoyed this story from start to finish, it was fast paced and I was gripped the whole way through. Lots of twists along the way and it really kept me guessing, I was desperate to find out the outcome. Question is… who can you really trust ??
Congratulations A J Carter on another fantastic book, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thank you for sending me an early copy before release date, I can’t wait for your next one!

The killers home

Gosh! This book certainly kept me reading. I even found some of it difficult to read, i know first hand of controlling coercive behaviours, that said i made it to the end. Towards the end i started to think some of it ridiculous but, the very end was a great twister and i dont think i breathed and swallowed reading those last few pages. I applaud Heather for the action she took……. Worthy of 4 stars for sure.

WOW!!

I am really impressed with AJ Carter's books. This is the third book I have read and I must say all have been edge of my seat page turners! It has been quite awhile since I have read an author that has kept me interested and coming back for more. Though his subjects are a tad troubling he is a masterful writer! I am impressed!! I will continue to read what he writes and hope he continues to write heart stopping thrillers! Bravo!

Didn't finish. Couldn't stand how Fern and her sister Heather were portrayed. Fern, the younger sister, was being controlled by a bully. She knew Rook for one day before he showed his true colors. She went back to him after he totally sabotaged her getting a job interview. She stayed with him even though he frightened her. Heather is dealing with her own issues, her increasing drunk husband who she continues to make excuses for, her teenage daughter who is spiraling out of control.

I spent 99 cents on this book and I was really expecting it to be a 99 cent book - but I was proved wrong. I didn’t see any of the twists coming, I knew who the villain was but that much was obvious. I didn’t feel like I had any idea what was going to happen to the characters, which is a good thing because I hate predictable thrillers. I am pleasantly surprised at this book and I’m glad I got it. Also enjoyed the dual pov.

When Heather's sister, Fern returns to town, Heather is excited to think that she can spend more time with her younger sister. But then she meets Fern's latest boyfriend and instantly alarm bells go off.
There's something in Rook's eyes that Heather finds disconcerting. Little does she know what awaits her entire family at the hands of this stranger. Edge of your seat thrill ride, that you won't be able to put down till the end.

I think I need to change my prefered genre because this so called highly rated book is a complete disaster. There was no surprise element and the twists made no sense. All women characters were dumb and unlikeable. The story made no sense. My biggest question without giving too much away, is if there was no light in that place how did the girl write? Why that man keep giving her stationery supplies? Ben, Sadie's characters had loopholes. Overall, it's avoidable

A dark love story or something more sinister?

Wow. What did I just read? There are so many twists and turns. Just when you think you have it all figured out there is another mind blowing turn of events. Enjoyed this book very much. It goes to show you how cruel some human beings can be. This happens in real life. That's what is very scary. Rook, is he a killer, a predator, or a fantastic boyfriend? Or could he be all three?

These books just keep getting better and better! The story is just so captivating from the start, and every time I read one of AJ Carter’s books I just know I won’t be able to put it down until I’ve finished it. The twists and turns that he manages to develop in his stories suck me in every time! Totally recommend!

This is My Favourite Read

I was blown away by this story. My battery died on my Kindle just as soon as Heather saw her husband. Then Sadie her own daughter, what, why, how did the sex and lies from Rook make her do this. Hats off to Heather. What she did had to be one of the hardest thing a parent can do.
Read this book, you will not be disappointed.

I have removed this novel from my kindle; it was corrupting my entire library with its horrible stench and all my other books looked like they had contracted terminal Covid just from being in the same vicinity of this utter dross. Horrid book, illiterate and foully sensational - gave me hives, and now I have to go scrub out my eyes. You have been warned….
