A cute picture book about cats playing the garden. The graphics were cute enough but wished the cats had been a bit more playful. I still think any young cat lovers, especially calico cats, would enjoy this book.

Sees book about cat = reads book about cat. That's my entirely philosophy for reading and it rarely steers me wrong. This follow-up to This Little Kitty, five little kitties go into the garden to help their humans with spring planting. It goes as well as you'd expect.
This is a great picture book for spring, the text is easy to read aloud and the illustrations are a lot of fun. Kids will find this rhyming book silly.

Karen Obuhanych's This Little Kitty in the Garden is actually about five kitties, all different. They do all the work, clean up and take a nap. There are humans involved, but we only see anything of them on two pages. We see a gloved hand once and two humans from the waist down on another. The kitties seem to be doing fine on their own. Their activities are drawn to show their energy, engagement in gardening and an awareness of their surroundings. "These little kitties hear the bumbles buzz, watch the butterflies flutter and poke at crawly fuzz." Not much plot to this story, but the kitties are cute and colorful. Nothing bad happens.

The five kitties in this picture book just may be even more adorable than they were when they were first introduced in the previous title, This Little Kitty. Not only do the illustrations effectively capture their distinctly different personalities, but the rhyming lines make the book a good choice as a read aloud. The black one is more adventurous than the others, tending to stick its paws where they don't belong or gnaw on anything within reach while the gray one is a bit more timid than the others. The artwork, created with cut paper, colored pencils, and charcoal, shows those cats helping out in the garden. Each scene contains something of interest, and young readers will be amused by the notion of these kitties venturing outdoors into the sunlight, spotting a rabbit, and getting in the way of their human companions who aren't shown other than a leg, arm, or lower body part. After all, it isn't the humans who are the stars but those cats. Of course, like all little ones, the kitties are nowhere to be found when it's time to straighten up the mess, and the tracks of all five covering an entire page indicate that they've spent quite a bit of time getting dirty. The cats don't seem to mind a little soil as the final double-page spread features all five lying on the newly sewn garden plot, each in a different position: curled tightly in a ball, belly up to catch the sun's rays, sprawled completely out on a stomach, paws reaching in two different directions. lying on a belly, sleeping sideways with one leg stretched out in what looks to be a terribly uncomfortable position. These five little kitties remind me of some of the cats who have inhabited my own home and taken over my life. Clearly, Spring weather brings out flowers and gardeners but also some curious cats.

I love all the kitties in this book. Each one is different and each one has its own personality. Love the butterflies and bees and the bunny that entertains the kitties. They plant seeds and pull weeds. My garden could use their help. This book is a perfect book to read now to help us through the rest of winter and get excited about the coming of spring. I also thought it was a nice touch to include a page that says, “Leafy greens prefer some shade. The peppers like it hotter. Gently tuck the seedlings in and sprinkle them with water.” This page could start a nice discussion about the different types of plants when planning a garden.

Karen's illustrations are gorgeous. They are so colorful, with so much movement Each one is eye candy for the reader. But the end illustration with the kitties asleep in the garden is the crown jewel of the book and the little paw prints on the endpapers are the cherry on top. Don't miss this book.

My overall feeling on this book was 2-stars, but the 3rd star is for the vibrant colors and just the fact that there's cats.

I think it's very irresponsible to make a gardening book with cats, including illustrations of the cats munching on plants, and not mention that some plants and produce are very toxic to cats. It's important to be aware and keep your feline friends safe. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal...

Although all the illustrations included the 5 cats, I think the theme of this book was more about gardening than about cats. I'm a cat person; I'm not a garden person. So this just wasn't really for me.

Picture book, told in rhyme. Five little kitties will garden today-- what could go wrong? The kitties experience bugs, a bunny, sneeze-inducing pollen and more. The kitten success is aided by the human helpers, only shown from the waist down. A fun rollicking rhyme perfect for garden, pets, or spring themed storytime. The illustrations are done in cut paper, colored pencils, and charcoal. This results in crisp lines and bright colors. My personal favorite is the orange striped cat who gets just as frustrated with the hose as I sometimes do.

Brief summary: Spring has arrived, and five cats living on Sakura Way head towards the garden shed to collect their tools to work on creating a garden. However, they get distracted upon going there and start enjoying the presence of other creatures already in the garden. The owners of the cats come out to the garden and are delighted to see that everything has been planted.

Comments: The illustrations were created with colored pencils, charcoal, and cut paper.

Karen Obuhanych returns with her character Little Kitty in this new book about gardening. Using rhymed verse, the stories shows the kitties preparing for, engaging in and resting up after a day of gardening. The rhyming verse makes it very accessible for young readers. The content actually describes good tips for getting the garden ready for spring.

The calico cat in this book looks just like my Freya who passed away in August. So there were some tears involved turning pages. I got so excited to see a look alike in illustrations and then sad because it made me miss her. But I absolutely loved this book. I hope Karen gives us more stories with these cats.

You know, not perfect rhymes, and some of the pictures are a little cluttered, but I liked this book in general. All the cats look different, so you can tell them apart. And the last spread is really cute. Cute undies as well.

Not fond of cats, however this is a cute brief rhyming story about five kittens who assist in planting a garden. Illustrations were made with cut paper, colored pencils, and charcoal and they are fun cute illustrations and the title is very appropriate for preschool story time.

My first grade students were obsessed with this book. "I wanna give it 3 thumbs up because I loved it so much!". This book inspired a lot of "awwwww" throughout it. The pictures are fantastic with lots of sweet and funny details. Recommended for ages 2-8 by the SEPA School Library Book Reviewers.

Adorable (even for cats) kittens are going to plant the garden - but how helpful are they really? Endpages and last page have the answer. Rhyming text mostly flows well. If only it was a dog book!

The kittens help their human family garden. The illustrations are adorable, and anyone who loves cats will recognize the antics of their own cats when unleashed in a garden.
