Saving the world should be easier. When airship captain Kaysana meets Sten the last thing she wants to do is have mad rough sex with him while bound by ropes and clamps…but fate pencils in their appointment. The lust plague strikes. From her infected crew, zombies arise.

With her ship gone, she must rely on Sten, a human clone, a man who has fought all his life to master himself. She despises his kind and detests Sten’s growing hold on her. Though he never takes no for an answer, surely it’s the plague that makes yes slip from her tongue like melted butter? Or should she blame her own traitorous heart?

Hordes of slavering zombies await them. Sten and Kaysana unlimber weapons, don goggles, and set a course for the origin of the plague. Yet victory will be hollow if they cannot also solve the puzzle of their hearts.

I loved this book much more than the first. There are so many incredible machines and inventions that's so far developed from today's mundane world. This story features a virus that escalates rapidly. A lust plague which turns the humans into zombies. The zombies turns violent in lust, rapes and abuses and then eventually eats their victims. Frankenstructs are immune to the virus. This is my next level of steampunk which is multi-faceted and adventurous. And did I mention erotica scenes while the zombies watches? Are you turned off? Don't be, I'm horrible at putting words but when you read that particular scene and stare at the page in awe, you will realize how much immerced Cari's writing had you.

Frankenstructs are now legal citizens and are free to do as they will but there are lot of resentments and hate from few people, among them is Kaysana. Kaysana hates frankenstructs but for a different reason. Captain of an airship, she is tough and loyal. When the zombie virus overtakes her crew in the airship Kaysana also comes under it's influence but she does not turn into a zombie. Sten is a Frankenstruct who was cloned. Now free of slavery he no longer owes the world. When he comes across the infected people he sets to save whoever he can. He meets Kaysana who was already becoming a victim to a bunch of lust-addled zombies. Sten knows Kaysana hates Frankenstructs. He is attracted to her. Kaysana may not have fallen totally into the lust plague but she is not immune to Sten no matter how much she ignores.

Sten and Kaysana are such strong characters. Where Sten is playful, Kaysana is serious. Both are drawn to each other. Their journey to find the reason and cure to the virus was immersive. The gadgets, machines, vehicles are so well explained and decribed. The characterization and erotic scenes were explicit. I'm glad to find this odd combination of steampunk and zombies. This book can be read as standalone and I highly recommend this.

This review is for the second book in the Steampunk Chronicles and definitely works very well as a standalone. The steampunk genre is quite familiar to this reader with it's very different timeline for historical events and crazy use of machinery . This author however has her own unique take with Frankenstructs having recently been declared human. Now these incredible beings are composed of cloned body parts but each can think for themselves and has free will but for far to long have been used as slaves and treated abominably . Unfortunately they are still feared and hated by some but as this story shows these incredible Frankenstructs are more than capable of feeling!
Captain Kaysana is on a mission to try and stop the plague that's quickly sweeping the land. A plague that brings sex driven flesh eating zombies and unfortunately not even her own Airship is safe. Escaping with Sten a Frankenstruct she feels she has no choice than to continue but the lust is affecting them and keeping a clear head seems nigh on impossible. Sten treats Kaysana like no man before and try as she might to ignore what he offers Kaysana is far from immune . Sten had been intruiged by the fiesty Captain before but now he has her right where he wants her and it's on her knees , at his mercy but his goal is only her pleasure and complete and total capitulation!
I think if new to this genre than this is an easy book to follow as it's not bogged down by too much machinery and inventions. There's been a war brewing but this story fixates on the plague that is rapidly escalating. If truthful I was a bit in the dark about some aspects of it's origin but could easily see that like some modern viruses this was a pandemic that could bring terror to the world. The lust generated by this plague quickly escalates bringing violence and death but as the story progresses our intrepid couple reach the epicentre but their journey is far from mundane. Expect an alpha male to take control and show his woman just how kinky she can really be!
Ok first of all characters and Kaysana has an awful lot of backbone but she's driven by past events in her life. Kaysana has no reason to love Frankenstructs and tries so hard to deny her attraction to Sten but frankly that's a lost cause! Sten is perhaps too controlling for some readers and their initial physical interaction might seem anything but consensual . That being said it's clear Sten has strong feelings towards Kaysana and truly desires to bring her only the sweetest release but boy does he get creative! Some readers might be shocked by just how Sten proceeds but it's a story that unashamedly proclaims it's BDSM elements so just go with the flow. As for supporting characters well Emily stole the show and I'd love to read more about her and it would be remiss of me not go mention a certain wolf Cadrach who you could say helps save the day !
Read this book with an open mind and enjoy the passion and romance. This is without a doubt a love story that just happens to be kinky and quite explicit at times. If honest there isn't a huge amount of world building but I suspect that might be addressed in the next book. I finished this and unfortunately I'm a little hazy about the origins and intent behind the plague. There is a pivotal scene but I still feel I'm left with questions but to say more would give spoilers . I would recommend this book to these who don't mind erotic scenes but do want a solid story . This was an adventure with a happy ending and that's my favourite type of book!
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

I was compelled by the reviews and my curiosity to read this odd mix of steampunk, zombies and light bdsm. This book was basically an erotic read with a weak world-building as setting for the plot: a zombie virus which sends out lust vibes to those immune, or turn others into violent zombies. Yup, it didn’t look promising but I went ahead anyway. And then I fell in love with the way the author writes from the very first chapter. Original all the way, steamy scenes, very good characterization, the greatest hero, no TSTL moments, plus the author continuously showed instead of telling. The story flow was smooth, combining love scenes, action and fights (explicit gore). Not for everybody, but I found myself enjoying every minute of it. 5 stars as an erotic read.

This is an intriguing take on the forced-lust imperative. The MCs are strong and determined, and the challenges are frightful. The twisted sex scenes are creative and intense. The steampunk elements are clever, but not overpowering.

In my review of Ms. Silverwood's previous book, 'Iron Dominance' I complained that her talent was being constricted by the erotic romance genre. While I'm no-less convinced of that assessment, I am very pleased to report that 'Lust Plague' does feel a whole lot closer to her literary 'home' - the kind of story where she can relax and feel assured enough to flex her writing muscles. The result is a more enjoyable, a more enticing read.

The characters in this book are solid and multi-faceted... and they have a past which makes them feel better fleshed out, more 'real'. The story is well-paced and has a genuine sense of an adventurous road-trip, albeit for a more sober purpose, as our heroine and hero, Kaysana and Sten, journey from their stricken airship to the distant mountains in an attempt to end the viral plague. Why, you may ask, would anyone want to stop a lust plague? This one turns most of it's victims into rotting-flesh zombies who rape and murder. Less sexy and a lot less fun.

You may be shocked and surprised that our hero and heroine get their kink on along the way. Now I'm not into BDSM but, that aside, the sex in this is pretty, damn hot. What may bug some readers is that it's not entirely consensual. To be fair, both the male and female characters are affected, so it's a bit like when two people, who otherwise wouldn't, get drunk and have sex - it's not exactly whole-hearted, conscious consent but it's definitely nothing approaching rape. The only thing that did bother me is a nasty scene of sexual assault right at the start of the story. It's not horrendous, mind-scarring stuff but it did leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Neither kinky nor fun, just ewww .

That little bit of sadness aside, I'm reminded of a Larry King interview with John Bon Jovi. King asks for Bon Jovi's opinion of Justin Beiber. In response, Bon Jovi vacillates saying that, "there's room for [...] different styles of music," and how, "it's not a competition." Next King asks about Taylor Swift. Without hesitation Bon Jovi replies, "She's the real deal."

That's my take on Cari Silverwood. She's the real deal. A confident, imaginative story-teller with a habit of writing strong prose... and she is getting better.

Kaysana is a tough-as-nails airship captain. She shut down her emotions years ago when her family was murdered, so she feels very little, until she meets Sten. Fate throws them together when the Zombie F virus overtakes the rest of her crew, turning them into creatures that will eat them, or torture them, or rape them, or all of the above. Kaysana is under the influence of the plague; surely that explains why she would burn for Sten’s touch.

Sten is a Frankenstruct - a being assembled from cloned parts – who was only freed from slavery a few years ago. He is immediately drawn to Kaysana, and when the plague pushes them together, he can’t stop himself from taking everything he can and pushing her for more.

This is a remarkable world full of amazing steam gadgets and complex, believable characters. The world building is intricate, thorough and layered yet not so complicated that anyone would need the Cliff’s Notes version. The Zombies are indeed terrifyingly real, the vehicles and machines are amazingly believable, and the characters are rich and true to their histories.

We get to see inside both Kaysana and Sten’s thoughts, and while they are both well done, I must say that Sten’s inner view is one of the best for a man I have ever read. His thoughts are masculine and dominant, and it sounds so different from Kaysana that it could have been done by another writer. Kudos to Ms. Silverwood for creating not only a great character in Sten, but also for calling on her inner Alpha Frankenstruct to give us a first class look at the mind of this male main character.

Hot enough to blister your fingers with an Alpha Male who decides early on that the heroine is the One for him. This is, at its heart, a BDSM erotic romance; so if any of that is offensive to you, steer clear. The scenes are extraordinarily well crafted, varied and never disappoint - including the Solar-Flare Heat of a car hood scene that made me think it was August in the midwest instead of February. If you enjoy BDSM this well-written series should be a happy edition to your Keeper Shelf.

Note: I read this book out of order, and it works well as a stand-alone. I would recommend reading books 1 and 2 before you read book 3.

This book is so difficult to put in a category but just so much damn fun too. It's like a mega-kinky, zombie-filled version of Lindsay Buroker's Flash Gold series.

The story is totally action packed with some bizarre, yet somehow fitting, plot twists. The entire thing is written with amazing humour, at times it is even quite macabre, but this is such a fantasy realm book that I loved it.

The main, and other, characters are well written. I really liked both Kaysana and Sten, with their troubled pasts and their different hopes for the future. However the book is much more about the plot and the adventure, kinky or otherwise, than it is the characters in it. The story is fast paced, engaging, easy to read and held my attention throughout.

There are quite a few very kinky scenes and a couple skirt around the fringes of dubious consent. It shouldn't need saying (but I will) that this needs to be put in the context of this being a work of fiction, set in a steampunk world that is suffering from a zombie lust plague.

I loved this book! The world building was great and the author has a wonderful way with giving you great imagry without endless paragraphs of description. This is the second book in the series, but can easily be read as a stand alone. For those that have never read steampunk, this is a great introduction into the world. The story isn't all about gears and inventions and stuff like that, it's a great BDSM action romance that is soooooo hot. Without giving away too much of the story, the leading man (Sten-yum-) does some rather inventive orgasm withholding play with the leading lady and those scenes just flat out did it for me. Add in a fun secondary cast and a mystery that had me scratching my head and this was a read I totally enjoyed. :D

Lust Plague is the second book in the Steamwork Chronicles Series. And, is of the Steampunk genre. This one has Zombies. Who would have ever thought I would enjoy a book with Zombies in it? But, I did. This is Sten and Kaysana’s story. Sten is a human clone and is a Frankenstruct. Kaysana was an airship captain and doesn’t like Frankenstruct’s. That doesn’t stop them from having mindblowing sex.
Again, Cari Silverwood pushes limits. So, if you don’t like books that push limits don’t buy this book.

I give 4.5 Stars for Lust Plague.

Being a fan of the walking dead, reading about a lust filled zombie-plague sounded right up my alley and man, was it. The sex and dominance is hot and the action truly read worthy. I found this book very entertaining but also sexy.

Really 4.5 Stars....

Zombie-F has hit Kaysana’s world and now her crew are in peril. The Commander of a massive airship, she has no choice but to abandon her ship when her crew turn into the murderous, lust crazed Zombies that the disease creates. Escaping with a Frankenstruct (a being made entirely in a lab of parts), she cannot foresee the way that that choice will affect her life path.

Sten is used to people looking down on him as a manufactured man. He has seen the worst in people and been made to be the worst of men in return. Lusting after the Commander of his ship has never gotten him anywhere, but when he comes across her bound and at the mercy of lust crazed zombies, all that is about to change. Under the thrall of the Zombie fever, neither of them can do anything but succumb to their carnal desires for each other. They escape the ship, but they cannot escape the fever that still flows through their veins.

The sex fever overtakes their brains, makes them less able to concentrate on fighting to survive. Submitting to their urges, whenever they take effect, seems like the best course of action, but the fever brings out their deepest fantasies, proving to them both that they may have something other than work in common.

Kaysana is a woman used to being in control, a woman who can’t fathom being seen for anything less than her role. However, her sub-conscious fantasies show something else, show her submitting to a man strong enough to take the reins. Turns out that man is not a man at all, he’s something more. Only in Sten's arms can she lose control and take the pleasure he wants to give her. Can she lose the relationship sell-by date stamped on her brain and allow him to give her everything?

Before we start a few words of advice: read book one first. Not only is the story an absolutely amazing piece of work, it explains the workings of this world in far more detail than this one does. It is vital to looking at the history of the Frankenstruct and explains some of the tensions that underpin this book. Now a word of warning; this book contains graphic scenes of gore. I’m talking zombies chewing off their own lips...it made me gag a few times, but that’s what you get with Zombie books!

This book is dark. It deals with rape, mutilation, murder and cannibalism. It wasn’t easy to read, and at some points I felt plain ill, but I could not tear my eyes away. It was romance building in the most perilous of times. With roadblock after roadblock being put in the way of Sten and Kaysana, I was hooked because I could not fathom how Cari Silverwood would sort out the mess she had written her characters into. Of course, the sex was ridiculously hot, although I was slightly uncomfortable with the heat I was feeling, as it was a side product of the virus. It felt a little icky because neither character was capable of saying yes or no. Once the story got going, emotion and trust built between the two characters and I felt more able to lose myself in the scenes. By golly, that made for some uncomfortable bus reading, especially a scene involving a kitty mask and one with a car ornament. On a sideways note, I can get into the nipple clamps, but the clit clamp made me want to cross my legs whilst running for the hills!

Both of the main characters are well written. Kaysana is a female captain, not a rarity in her world, but one who must be careful none the less. She finds a way to let go through submission to Sten, to simply relax. However, she cannot be seen fraternising with a Frankenstruct, cannot be seen to lust after a lower class, and so once the disease is out of her system she must let go. I knew the decisions were hard for her, knew the pride she took in her work, so I didn’t hate her for her hesitations. She was quite horrible to Sten because of this pride, but true love never does run smooth  Sten was all Alpha hotness in the bedroom and a lovely, genuine hero outside of it. Quite often, writers seem to write Dom’s who just want a stronger sub to prove that they can tame a strong woman. I didn’t feel this at all here; he worshipped her because of her strength. He used her strengths and tactics to get them out of trouble; he never belittled her experience or skill. I admired that he allowed her to move at her own pace, didn’t rush or pressure her in anyway. He was a fabulous hero who I enjoyed reading about.

This is classed as steam-punk but I’m not sure what I think about that label. It is futuristic with elements of sci-fi/fantasy; I don’t know what I’d class it as other than a stonking good read! With a hot BDSM love story set amongst the backdrop of chaos and death, I was engrossed until the end. The epilogue was interesting too.....

I have to start this review with a correction: I announced in a recent podcast I would review Cari Silverwood’s Lust Plague and also said that it had nothing to do with Steampunk. I was wrong. I judged prematurely from my previous reading of Iron Dominance.
Lust Plague is Steampunk, the elements are not just garnish, we get a far deeper view into the world of the Steamwork Chronicles and at the end, we meet a character from Iron Dominance again.
Now for what is going on: The airship Art of War is on a mission over zombie-infested territory and promptly gets boarded by air-mobile zombies (it makes sense, they can actually still think), that is when we meet the two main and two sidekick characters for the first time:
Kaysana, career officer and captain of the Art of War, Sten, mercenary/soldier/zombie-hunter and major-league hunk, his wolf Cadrach, and Emily, the librarian.
To understand, why this BDSM Steampunk Zombie novel works I have to explain the nature of the zombies: The strange, and quite metaphysical, virus infecting them turns them into slavering, ambulatory sex-drives, depending on how severe your infection is, you may just become very sexually active, if you get the full dose, it is bye-bye brain. To a certain extend, the zombies are like the reavers in Firefly.

On with the story, after saving Emily and Kaysana (the latter from a very rough situation), Sten gets himself, Kaysana and Cadrach off the Art of War in a gyrocopter. Kaysana, not wanting to be in the company of a frankenstruct and also not wanting to abandon her ship and crew, parts ways in a spectacular fashion.

Sten and Cadrach track her down and… Well, the effects of the lust plague see to the rest. There is a lot of things happening between Sten and Kaysana, both on a physical and emotional level. Cari really knows how to write this. The spark you felt right from the start between Claire and Theo in Iron Dominance takes a while to manifest, but (at the latest) after saving Emily, you know Kaysana and Sten are made for each other.

Which brings me to the most unexpected little jewel I ever encountered in a novel: Emily.

Emily is so many things at once: She is the sparkly, bubbly little girl, balancing out the horror of the situation, being stranded in a wasteland between zombies, and the roughness of Kaysana’s and Sten’s contacts. She is also the… No, I am not going to spoil it here, just one thing: Don’t mess with the librarian!

Concerning the erotic content: Rough. That’s all there is to say. This is not for the faint of heart and nervous of disposition. It is also not for anyone not into BDSM. I also found some scenes rather unsettling. There is no necrophilia in there, but there are several moments when the protagonists stumble upon a scene and you can just deduce what happened here and it was not pleasant. Sex crazed reavers on a rampage. The kind of love happening between Kaysana and Sten is also rough and far less sophisticated in its BDSM content than what went on in Iron Dominance. Lust Plague’s story is rough, in every aspect.

Outside the erotic content, there are a lot of details about the world to be picked up: Technology level, customs, history, political landscape. Steamwork Chronicles’ earth is a fascinating place, if you piece all the information together. The story is also fast-paced with action waiting at every turn.

Two things I did not enjoy: Some of the erotic content was definitely to rough for my taste, but tastes differ, so that’s OK, and:

The one clothing store still left unscathed in this one village after the zombies went through… That was a bit too much narrativum at work.

Another word of caution: As Cari has confirmed, Lust Plague is aimed at female readers. We get a lot of descriptions on how awesome and manly Sten looks, but comparatively little on Kaysana.

Before I forget, the steampunk elements, again, I do not want to put spoilers in, but: A steampunk mech saves the day!

All in all, Lust Plague is a very different reading experience, but how often do you get zombies, BDSM and Steampunk in one novel, anyway?

May have slight spoilers.

In author Cari Silverwood’s second Steamwork Chronicles novel we meet airship captain Kaysana not long before her ship is caught by Zombie F, a lust plague. Her whole ship is infected and turns to zombs except for a few women and Sten, a male mercenary and frankenstruct whom she had been verbally sparing with since he got on her airship.

Kaysana does not like frankenstruct’s, hates them in fact, for personal reasons so the very last things she wants to do is have rough, her-tied-up-and-at-his-mercy sex with Sten but her body and mind has other ideas. It is not long before the question arises—is it the plague that makes her shiver at his commands and long to beg for the sting of pain his hands sometimes bring her or is it her true desires?

After her whole ship is infected and Sten saves her and some other women of her crew the rest is lost and she must rely on him, and his huge wolf Cadrach, to help her get to the base that might hold a cure to Zombie F.

The only thing standing in their way is hordes of zombies, some who are a lot smarter, and quicker than your average zombie.

I really enjoyed this novel and have come to the conclusion as I am sure others have, that Cari is one hell of a sex scene creator, even in the middle of zombie gore, she still managed to bring the erotica scenes to a height that few authors in my opinion can.

After reading Cari’s first novel in this series Iron Dominance, there was no way I could say no to reading this one! It drew me in from the very first page; fast paced, erotica packed, suspense and action riddled it did not let me go until the last.

In Iron Dominance a bill was passed that freed frankenstruct’s, made them legal citizens I suppose, so it was very interesting to see the after affects of this in the second novel. There is a lot of resentment and I would guess out right hate against the frankenstruct’s from some people, but at the same time you see a little of the others side as well.

Kaysana, as before, hate’s frankenstruct’s so this definitely made great plot in the novel to see her and Stan have such a strong connection. She fought with herself and desires most of the book.

Overall I really liked both Stan and Kaysana; they were both very serious and strong characters. Not only that but even if Kaysana would not admit it I think they were both drawn to each other from the first time they met, I know Stan liked her before Zombie F hit.

I have to say also, that I really loved how the author brought in a few other characters and made them so immersed in the main plot as well, namely the librarian Emily, Cadrach (Stan’s huge wolf) and of course Emily’s little bird. They all brought something to the book that kept them front and center in the plot with the two main characters.

In the end I only have one question, well two actually. #1: When is the next book? #2: Will these ever be in paperback because they are a must have for my bookshelf!

I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good BDSM romance/action with steampunk as well.

*I received a hardcover/paperback/eBook copy/ARC of this book for free to review from the author/publisher; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Woooohooooo! This book is HOT- and it has some VERY creative sex scenes, dammit! The world building is indeed excellent, it only takes the author two sentences to get the reader into her world. There's a strong horror element (the zombies, you know) which includes harsh violence, but I loved the strong emotions the gloominess of the whole scenery evoked, the perfect background to the sweet, passionate love story... I was biting my nails most of the time.
The hero is BLOND (and do I need to say anything more, huh :D?), and I loved how he practiced Zen to deal with his genetically amplified rage... it gave him a strength that went far beyond the physical from the beginning.
Kaysana deserved a friendly shake now and then, but her problems to accept Sten made excellent conflict- I was so glad when they got their happy ending! They both deserved it. But yeah: especially Sten. I love books where the hero acknowledges his feelings before the heroine does, so I was a very happy gal all the time :D.
All in all, this is an utterly sexy, thrilling, fantastic book that lures you into a world that is as dangerous as it is fascinating.
Absolute deal breaker for me in any book is the language- no danger here: Mrs. Silverwood's words are beautiful, authentic, often poetic. And they transport feelings perfectly, which is their main job, of course :).
Solid five stars from me!

Wow! What a ride! This is the second book in the Steamwork Chronicles. It can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this book. Steampunk is quickly becoming a genre I like- kind of- scifi/fantasy/ historical and this one had zombies! I know what you're thinking- O.o Zombies in erotica?? What the...!? but the author makes it work. There's even an epic battle- ~Squeee- I just love epic battles ~ Once again Cari Silverwood has shown us a new world with steamships, steam cars , automatons/robots, strange weapons, clones/frankenstructs. There's even a friendly wolf. Strong take no nonsense female main characters I really liked. Although I wanted to slap her for her bigotry towards the poor frankenstructs at the beginning. Sten is an uber alpha male. mmmm- Sten- I'd like to clone him but don't think I could hide him from my Hubby- Sten isn't the kind to hide in the closet :) This is a great story with super steamy sex scenes. Fans of BDSM, steampunk Erotica, scifi, and fantasy I believe would enjoy this book. The zombies add just a touch of some horror too. I can't wait to read the next in the series Steel Dominance (Steamwork Chronicles, #3) by Cari Silverwood

Lust, Love and Losing Control

After reading Iron Dominance, I jumped right into this story and was NOT prepared for it! Set in the same world, this time with a swoon worthy frankenstruct named Sten who falls deeply in love with Kaysana and creates as much explosive reactions as the weapons ever could. As a fan of Cari Silverwood's writing, I expected off the chart heated sex and domination. What I wasn't ready for was zombies. Yes, zombies! Lust isn't the only thing spreading through the world and the biggest battles are sometimes within ourselves. A few of the secondary characters are also quite intriguing, so I hope to find out more about them. The ending is a bit of a shocker, but one I think will be enjoyed.

I loved it. Again Ms Silverwood infuses HOT erotica with an actual story, not just half hearted passages to bridge one sexual event to another like so many others.
The world building just gets better and the characters are dimensional, flawed, strong and kick-ass all at once. Ms Silverwood hasn't fallen prey to the cardboard cut outs that plague erotica (get it?!).
If you like classy erotica with an actual storyline that loses nothing of the hotness then this is for you.
Oh and there's Zombies lots and lots of zombies....

I give 4.5 Stars for Lust Plague.

an erotica zombie plagued story between two very strong characters. there were some elements of BDSM thrown in and it made the book even better. K is a very strong willed, independent person and i felt that her struggle to let S led them to safety was very well written and played out. the entire book had me hooked and i cant wait to read any and everything written by Cari Silverwood.

Silverwood does it again!!!! Lust Plague is a sexy book with characters I fell in love with immediately. The chemistry and romance between Kaysana and Sten is riveting, and kept me eagerly turning pages until the very end. Silverwood's writing is beautiful. Very recommended!

What can I say? Cari Silverwood can write incredible stories with the hottest sex I think I've ever read. Another reviewer mentioned the fact that Ms. Silverwood writes erotica with a strong storyline and that is absolutely correct. And this isn't a simple story either. The world that she has created (this is the 2ND book in the Steamwork Chronicles series) is complex and multi-layered. The fun of the Steampunk genre is that the author is free to create out-of-this-world machinery, gadgets and humanesque clones, as well as the structure of governments which are pieced together from our reality. In short, Ms. Silverwood's imagination appears to be boundless. Even the sexual encounters are extremely imaginative and so insanely hot, I was squirming in my chair and, even though I was reading the book on my eReader, I was afraid that my intense blushing was giving away the fact that I was reading about how the dominating, Alpha-plus hero was seducing and sexually breaking down the strong-minded, but unknowingly submissive heroine.

I do not give a synopses of the books that I review, which may annoy some readers. What I do talk about is the overall texture of the book, as well as my observations about how the book is constructed that makes it stand out and apart from other books and why I gave it 5 stars - a rating I save for the few books I may come across in the year that really have earned it. This is one of those books. Ms. Silverwood has the ability to get inside her characters' minds and give you their different points of view on the same event in real time. Many writers try to switch between the main characters' POV and the result is a confusing mess. This is not the case in Lust Plague. Sten and Kaysana each have distinct thoughts and what I refer to as the voice in their heads that is processing what is happening in the moment. In Kaysana's case, it is the conflict she is experiencing between her primal sexual response to Sten's dominance over he body and how he makes her feel regardless of the fact that her conscious mind is telling her that not only what she is feeling and doing is wrong, but why her mind is reacting this way without it being some cookie-cutter pop psychology answer to why she is submitting in a way that she finds so shameful that it threatens to ruin her professional and personal life. The reader can clearly follow her physical and emotional path of the submission: her body first and then of her very soul.

Sten's inner voice is so different, so very male and unquestionably Dominant (with a capital D) both sexually and emotionally. He also takes us through his journey from his purely erotic need for Kaysana's total submission to the realization that he is also afraid of submitting to his all consuming sexual and emotional needs that they almost cause Kaysana's death because he is caught up in ferocious sex when he should be on the look out for danger in the form of really nasty zombies. I can not leave out that Ms. Silverwood's gift for description goes beyond the erotic; she describes her zombies so well that, not only could I see the exposed bone where the flesh had either rotted off or been gnawed on, but I could also smell the putrification of that flesh.

I would give the potential reader fair warning that the content of Lust Plague is not for the faint of heart. Ms. Silverwood excels at writing sex with a rather hardcore BDSM aesthetic, as well as heart-pounding action sequences with frightfully strong, mindless zombies along with the "raised" men who are zombies who can still think about the fact that they are going to rape, tear apart and eat their victims. *shudder* However, if this is subject matter that already intrigues you, I say that you can not miss reading this book. If you are anything like me, when you have finished reading the last sentence, you will be desperate for more and you must have more right now.

The Romance Review

Sex crazed zombies rising, a frankenstruct with a dangerous temper and a plague inducing lust storming across the lands, what more can obstruct Kaysana's mission? It appears even Captain Kaysana is an obstacle for herself. While she hasn't been infected and turned into a mindless zombie, she does become a horny sex fiend. This puts a damper on her quest to ground zero, where the zombies are coming from.

Kaysana is aided by Sten, a handsome frankenstruct. In this world, even if frankenstructs – clones - are now free with human rights, most humans still despise them. Even animals are treated more humanely than frankenstructs. Kaysana fights her attraction to Sten due to her murky past. However, her irrational hatred of frankenstructs does not stop her from spreading her legs. She blames the unexplained viral infection, but in reality, Sten is irresistible.

Sten is the best character in this story. He's an alpha male who is flawed but he has a good heart who delivers results. He is a mystery in some senses since he's created, not born. No one knows the exact details about his creation, least of all himself. He's the hero a reader can get behind because he fights for the underdog. He is the underdog.

The character who slyly stole the story is Emily. She's the mousy librarian who turns out to be a sniper. She's cute, consistent and has no issues with her sexuality. Plus, animals adore her. She's smart and capable.

The world building is a bit sketchy and unless the reader has read the first in this series, there may be some confusion in some of the references to different groups involved in the story. What was aggravating are the questions raised left unanswered as well as the loose threads. The reader is teased with possible answers on frankenstructs only to have the information left undisclosed. When ground zero is reached, the scene is a hot mess of zombies, inexplicable golden man and a puzzling resolution.

How did the zombies know to gather here? How did they know to find humans? What allures them to some humans versus others? How do they know to feed the golden man? What is the golden man? Is this lust plague over? Why does Sten admire Kaysana? So far, the woman has been gang banged, captured several times and needs to be rescued by Sten repeatedly. It baffles the mind why a strong able man like Sten would want a woman who consistently underperforms. Emily is the better choice for him.

Characters aside, the sex in the book is good. The fun ways Kaysana is enticed to submit while she's dressed up like a hooker is tasty. The undercurrent of kinky sex with the modified nipple clamps, restraints and especially the collar are all hot and erotic. The kinky sex is what carries this book. The imagery used by the author is strong. The steampunk elements were decently done and the reader can visualize not only the machines, but the locale. The romance with a happily ever after is sweet. The story is left in a manner that hopefully sets up for the next story in this series. Perhaps the next book will provide the answers and tie off the threads for a satisfying conclusion. Recommended for erotic readers who love a strong man, even if he isn't completely human.

Well, where to start with Lust Plague (The Steamwork Chronicles 2)? First, please allow me to say that this is a brand new genre of books for me. I was a little confused when I first started reading this book but I was absolutely determined to finish it AND understand it. About half way through the book, I went back and reread the guest blog that Ms. Silverwood did on Guilty Pleasures and it all started clicking into place. My suggestion, if this is going to be your first Steampunk book, read Cari’s blog and open your mind. This is a form of sci-fi at it’s best. Frankenstructs, Zombies and Doms…OH MY!

Frankenstruct – Sten – good god! And a Dom too! I guess the only way to explain Sten is to tell you to picture a Dom at his best. He has control, he has feelings, he wants nothing more than to pleasure Kaysana and to get her to realize that he is more than a Frankenstruct – he is a man. He does things with clamps and wires that had me squirming in my seat.

Zombies – just what the word means. Lot’s of them and a lot of blood and gore to go with them. Zombie F is the LUST PLAGUE….and what attracts the Zombies to humans – sex, of course! Which is the reason for the name, Lust Plague. First they rape you and then they eat you (literally). They were such fun.
The story of Kaysana and Sten was wonderful. There was a whole back-story beyond the Zombie F Plague that is hitting their world. There were times that I could not believe Kaysana was being as prejudiced and shallow as she was. She could only think of what her family would say, what would her GAM Commander’s think of her being with a Frankenstruct? Here was a man that adored her, would lay down his life for her and gave her the greatest pleasure she ever had and she could not see beyond the fact that he was a Frankenstruct. I also think she didn’t want to admit to being a Submissive either. Sten didn’t give up though, he fought for her, beside her and against her. It took other peoples opinions and hatred of Frankenstructs to open her eyes and accept him as a man.

You definitely have to read this genre with an open mind and look beyond the machines and other-worldliness of the book. Ms. Silverwood wrote a beautiful love story that just happened to be set in a different kind of world we are used to. Her writing was unbelievable – the imagination it takes to write a Steampunk book is beyond my realm of thinking; the domination scenes were fresh, very well written and explicit. Lust Plague did not have any “down” time. It was constantly moving, changing and making you wonder what was going to happen to Kaysana, Sten and Emily next. Will I read The Steamwork Chronicles 3 (hoping that it’s Emily and Corey’s story)? Most definitely.

5 out of 5 Licks

First of all I can tell you I am not a huge zombie fan, so I was a little unsure about reading this 2nd book in the Steamwork Chronicles series. I can honestly say that the storyline is highly entertaining and the sex is HOT. Airship Captain Kaysana’s crew has been infected with The Lust Plague which basically turns people into sex crazed zombies. The Plague has varied effects on people, some just become incredibly horny, others turn into sex crazed zombies, torturing and eating their victims.

Luckily for Kaysana, a frankenstruct named Sten is aboard her airship and rescue’s her before it crashes. Sten was created in a lab from cloned body parts and is an outcast of society only recently being release from slavery. Most people don’t even consider him human. Kaysana is a by the book Captain that will do nothing to tarnish her career. These two have been thrown together by accident and decide to try and save the world. Kaysana is convinced that she is being affected by the plague and that is the only reason she craves Sten touch and follows his every lust filled command.

Great story and super hot read! Sten is a HOT dominant and I loved the fact that Kaysana, didn’t know what to think about herself when she realized she loved following Sten’s commands and receiving his spankings. Even though this is the second book in the series it can be read as a stand -alone. Cari Silverwood does a great job of creating an exciting story that includes a sexy BDSM relationship. ENJOY!

Lust Plague
4.3 stars

One can never say that this author is pigeonholed into writing only one style of books. Yes, the common denominator is BDSM. Yet, that is where it ends. This book is just another example of that. It is the second book in The Steamwork Chronicles. It can be read alone but I would advise reading it in order if for no other reason than to get caught up in this wonderful world that this author has created. It really is stunning. It is such a talent to make something from fiction appear real in your mind.

This book is about Captain Kaysana and Sven a male frankenstruct. Her ship encounters a zombie ship and it gets infected and almost the entire ship becomes infected with lust plague. Kaysana hates frakenstructs and is continually verbally sparring with Sven. She is used to being in control so the idea that she is tempted to submit to Sven is abhorrent to her and she blames it on the plague. Yet, soon it posits whether it really is because of the plague or because of something else.
This might seem far fetched for you, but it was like nothing that I have ever read before.

I had never read a steampunk book before Cari Silverwood's Iron Dominance and I immediately fell in love with this fantastical world she has created. I had high expectations for this book and was not disappointed. I am fascinated by this world of gyrocopters, airships, frankenstructs and in this book lust fuelled, man eating, yellow eyed zombies. Yikes. One of the main reasons I enjoy this author's books so much is the way she writes female characters. They are smart, strong, determined and resourceful. Kaysana is the captain of a steamship when the zombie plague infects most of her crew. It is up to her, Sten, a sexy dominant frankenstruct and one very resourceful librarian to save the world from the zombie plague. Along the way Kaysana and Sten are drawn to each other. Sten doesn't question this kinda taboo relationship but Kaysana fights it all the way. The zombies are frightening, the steampunk world is fantastical and the sex is freaking hot and steamy. Really enjoyed this world and the story set in it. Would highly recommend.

I’m a sucker for well-written steampunk, and Cari Silverwood writes great stories in this genre. The second book in her STEAMWORK CHRONICLES, LUST PLAGUE, is a love story, a sci-fi thriller, a paranormal tale of zombies and frankenstructs (lab-created humans). Open the book and you are thrust into a world where the French and their coalition are at war with Mexico and their allies, at a time when airplanes should not exist but do, and fears of HIV have been replaced by fears of contracting a virus the will instantly turn you into a flesh-eating, sex starved zombie.
Ms Silverwood has outdone herself with the second book in the STEAMPUNK CHRONICLES series. I can’t imagine what she plans for the next book but I’ll be standing in line to read it for sure!

This is a book I read as a judge for a contest.

Lust meets steampunk meets BDSM. This erotic sci-fi fantasy is a wild ride of zombies and enhanced mortals. I adore books with a building love element moving the story along. In this case, Kaysana distrusts Sten but must depend on him to help her escape the plague that has overtaken her airship. The plague turns her shipmates into lust craving zombies.

The couple surface on planet and begin a dangerous journey to search for the reason and a solution to end the pandemic. Along the way, Kayana tries to deny the strong physical attraction she feels for Sten. Sten side-tracts her distrust with very hot sex, determined to win her love… if they can survive and defeat the plague.

This is a very well-written erotic book with a wonderfully described fantasy world.
