3 hours, 37 minutes

The first audio original from Jeneva Rose, the author of blockbuster bestseller The Perfect Marriage, #CrimeTime is a full-cast mystery written with her husband, Drew Pyne, perfect for fans of Only Murders in the Building and Finley Donovan Is Killing It.

Going viral has never been so dangerous.

Nadiya loves her privacy: living alone and writing a popular series of crime novels under a pen name, she’s worked hard to build the quiet life she cherishes. But all that changes when her long-lost half-brother Chase comes to town, needing a place to stay until he can get back on his feet. Chase’s dream job is Nadiya’s worst nightmare: he’s an aspiring TikTok star, oversharing on the internet at every opportunity.

When a burglary occurs in the apartment upstairs, Chase decides to film and post all the action. Unbeknownst to him, this was not a random break-in, but a targeted operation run by dangerous criminals. Overnight, Chase’s videos go viral, garnering millions of views and amassing a huge following of loyal #Chasers. It’s everything he’s ever dreamt of, except the attention has brought the wrong kind of heat. Chase and Nadiya are plunged into a world of organized crime, and together, they must uncover the truth and clear their names before they become the next victims.

Performed by a full cast and filled with both laugh-out-loud banter and shocking twists, #CrimeTime is a delightful romp through the murky, unpredictable realms of crime, family, and the TikTok algorithm.

Me the entire time I listened to this: 🙄🙄🙄

Did anyone else find this annoying? It was so stereotypical Gen Z influencer vs. oldest sister millennial.

Like no joke, the depiction of Gen Z brother = so bothersome. It’s like he had no life skills whatsoever 🙄

the setup…
Nadiya is a bestselling crime writer using the pseudonym D. G. Williams who was living alone and working at home in a three unit townhouse with her adorable bulldog Winston. That was until she discovered half brother Chase Garcia on a DNA website. After they connected, he moved in from Miami, broke and jobless but an insanely aspiring TikTok star. Chase knows no boundaries when it comes to his posts so when they secretly witness a burglary in progress at the upstairs unit, he films it all, including some later damning behavior. Despite Nadiya’s demand that he not post the video, Chase does it anyway and overnight it goes viral. Nadiya knows they’re in danger though Chase is consumed with his TikTok account and continues feeding his “#Chasers” more content, creating a series of episodes for #CrimeTime.

the heart of the story…
The core of the story has mystery, danger and thriller elements and structure but it’s bundled up in a campy presentation. If you don’t take it too seriously, you’ll enjoy this romp and the sometimes cheesy dialogue. It pokes serious fun at the world of TikTok influencers and the lengths some are willing to go to gain followers and infamy. Chase is immature but charming in his own way, balanced out by his much more serious and pragmatic older sister Nadiya. Things get really dangerous when the tables are turned on them and they are forced to flee to a safe hideout. It would be spoilerish to tell you more!

the narration…
This is a full cast production, complete with sound effects. I felt like I was listening to a stage production and it was so much fun! The main voices for Nadiya, Chase and a later revealed character were perfectly crafted, too.

the bottom line…
I had such a good time with this story, even when Chase’s naïveté and singular focus on his #Chasers drove me nuts. The twists, campiness and full cast narration combined to make this a most entertaining listening experience. Try it…and enjoy the ride! 3.5 stars

I’m sorry, but I thought this book was ridiculous. Maybe it was supposed to be. I don’t know. But it was way too out there with goofy nonsense for me.

The audio production is well done, and the narration is good. But…

The story is written in all dialogue, no narration at all. Consequently, the experience was like listening to a (very dumb) TV show, without a picture.

I found Chase to be a massively annoying jerk. Those are my nice, public words. The banter between him and Nadiya didn’t make me laugh out loud. It didn’t even make me crack a grin. I did lots of sighing, and my eyes hurt from rolling around.

Superfun fast past action thriller audio book! This one had my heart pounding the whole time. I also enjoyed the ‘internet influencer’ part of the whole story line.

Audio original written by a married duo with a full cast narration and includes plenty of sound effects as well.

I’ve read Jeneva before (I really enjoyed The Perfect Marriage) and I follow her for laughs on IG.

This was inspired by real events but as soon as it turns to fiction it goes downhill. Yikes! I found myself cringing big time.

Glad this couple is having their fun but this was a swing and a miss for me.

I almost DNF’ed this book at the beginning because it was so CHEESY. I’m glad I stuck it out though because about 30% through I was smiling at chase’s references to tik tok and his energy and Nadia’s more frank demeanor were fun to listen to (I did this one as an audiobook). At the end the authors note provided some context, this story was inspired by true events that the author and her husband experienced. Talk about inspiration from true events! Writing the novel helped her process what she saw in real life. So that was a full circle moment for me reading that. All in all an enjoyable listen, it’s a short book so about 3-4 hours of time.

Loosely based off a true event in JR’s real life this is a short and fast-paced thriller that will keep you entertained the entire time.

Recorded by a full cast, this audiobook is well done with side effects and the all the sides you could ever want.

I'll be honest, I hated it. I absolutely LOVE Jeneva Rose. I have loved every single book I've read by her. But maybe radio theater just isn't her thing. Or maybe it was the voice acting. I don't know. But I just felt annoyed listening to this, hoping it was going to get better. But it didn't. I only had an hour left and I just can't go on. I got a refund. The only thing I enjoyed was the fact that the dirty cop was named Scott.

This is a light, goofy, somewhat satirical cozy mystery that definitely entertained! The audiobook performers and sound effects are top notch!!

I felt Jeneva and Drew's humor and personalities throughout. Despite the mixed reviews, I enjoyed it! If you go into this expecting it to be something it's not, you may be disappointed. But if you can be prepared in knowing that this book doesn't take itself too seriously, you should be able to enjoy it!🥰

This was horrendous. The narration, the characters, the story - all idiotic. Only upside? It's short and free with my spotify subscription

5 stars!

I love when married couples write books together. I'm going to start this review with the Authors' note at the end by both Jeneva and Drew. I was gobsmacked to find out the story was BASED ON A TRUE STORY! Some of the dialogue and most of the original situation actually happened to the two of them! Their banter back and forth was so freaking cute I couldn't handle it.

On to the story.

This was a quick, perfect, popcorn thriller. It was hilarious (mostly thanks to Chase who not only made me laugh, but made me cry because I hope this is a over the top version of his generation lol). It has everything you could possibly want. Robbery, drugs, murder, high-speed chases, mafia bosses, shootouts, corrupt cops, whodunnit, found family, a little romance sprinkled on top for good measure and of course Tik Tok saves the day.

I can't believe this story happened in such a short amount of time (like what, 4 hours?) because it was so perfect. not a single word was wasted. I really hope Jeneva and Drew continue to write together because this was so much fun to listen to.

Rating as a movie: PG-13

My rating: ⭐️📱🎦

My thoughts: 📱50% 1:52:37 Part 6 - Meh. Ugh. Eyroll!

I thought it couldn't get worse but it did. This is pretty much a corny audio original. The entire time I couldn't believe how stupid these characters were, then they told the true version of the story and I learned the stupidity was real. Knowing it was inspired by true events didn't make it better. This wasn't a good story and the acting was bad.

Recommend to others: Nope. You'll just want your time back.

This hurts me to give a low rating. I like Jeneva Rose. I like her work. This original recording was so campy and not that interesting. I listened. Just disappointing. I had a complimentary copy from Libro.fm. Don’t spend money on this one. Read any of her adult thriller books and enjoy!!

Silly & annoying. Didn’t even sound professional. Sounded like something your friends would put together for fun. I enjoy the format idea, but I much prefer James Patterson’s audio mysteries.

Thank you to libro.fm for providing me with an ALC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I’m sure you all know the pain of reading a book because the comps are some of your favorites, and then reading the entire book only to discover that it is absolutely nothing like either of the books it was compared to. Well, I’m here to tell you that this is absolutely perfectly matched when it was compared to Only Murders in the Building and Finley Donovan is Killing It.

Nadiya and Chase living together is basically The Odd Couple—they couldn’t be more different if they tried. Chase came off as a little irritating to me at first, probably because I’m a lot more like Nadiya. Chase is constantly on TikTok, oversharing about everything and anything every chance he gets.

So when a break-in occurs at apartment upstairs and the two of them decide to go and check to see if their neighbor is okay, Chase decides to film it all just in case it could be his big break to TikTok fame. They don’t know that it isn’t just a regular break-in, but that they’ve stumbled into an operation by a very dangerous crew. When Chase posts his videos to TikTok, they blow up overnight, gaining him millions of followers and ten million views by the next morning. And they’re thrown into the dangerous world of organized crime.

I’m a sucker for an audiobook with a full cast, and despite the super-short length of this one, it’s got a full cast. It’s done wonderfully, and I adored the characters and the plot. I have to admit that I even liked Chase by the end! While there’s a ton of funny banter and ridiculousness that goes on, it also gets into the importance of family, forgiveness, and love. It’s also fitting that in a story centering around TikTok, it’s a fast-moving story that’s short and ever changing to always hold the reader’s interest. Plus, it’s an audio exclusive!

Chase and Nadia recently found out they are half siblings through a genetic matchup and now Chase lives with Nadia as he’s trying to get his influencer job off the ground. He’s all about getting the shot, the reel, the video, getting famous. Chase doesn’t realize the danger he puts them in when they witness, and he documents a crime taking place at their neighbor’s house.

Nadia is a successful mystery/crime writer, the steady one of the two, but she has some secrets that come to light as they try to outrun the danger and stay alive.

Even though this is a mystery and Nadia and Chase are in real danger, the story is whacky, fun and entertaining, mostly because of Chase’s over-the-top antics! I laughed even when I wanted to smack Chase upside the head a few times, lol!

It was interesting to find out the story was inspired by the authors actually witnessing a crime similar to what happens in the beginning. I really enjoyed the story and I hope we get more #CrimeTime stories!

The audio was a lot of fun! The story is pretty short, a 3hrs and 45min listen with a full cast voicing the characters and sound effects as well. I listened at my usual 1.5x normal speed.

#CrimeTime by Jeneva Rose and Drew Payne
Narrators: Full Cast Narration
Rating: 4 stars
Pub date: 12/12

This rollercoaster of crime, family, and TikTok chaos will leave you laughing and on the edge of your seat. Jeneva Rose teams up with husband Drew Payne for their first audio original that's as addictive as a trending TikTok challenge.

The story revolves around Nadiya, a bestselling crime writer, and her TikTok-obsessed half-brother Chase, whose dream job turns into a nightmare when a burglary that they witness and record goes viral.

The banter between Nadiya and Chase is laugh-out-loud funny, and as the danger escalates, the duo finds themselves in a whirlwind of organized crime and unexpected twists. The fact that this story is loosely based on something that happened to the writing duo in real life makes the story even more intriguing.

The narrative, filled with cheesy yet delightful dialogue, takes a hilarious jab at the world of TikTok influencers and their quest for fame. The full-cast production, complete with sound effects, enhances the experience, making it feel like a lively stage performance. I loved it, and I wish more audiobooks were recorded this way.

Even when Chase's naivety tests your patience, the story's twists, campiness, and stellar full-cast narration make it an entertaining experience. #CrimeTime is a must-listen for fans of mystery and comedy alike. Thank you so much to Simon Audio for my advanced copy.

This was honestly so fun!! I didn’t really know what to expect but I ended up loving it! It was like watching a tv show but without the visuals (which I end up doing when I’m doing chores anyways). The storyline was super cute and I loved all of the characters. I hope they make more!
