Night time is the right time...

Gwendolyn Kidd has met the man of her dreams. He's hot, he's sexy, and what started as a no-names-exchanged night of passion has blossomed into a year and a half-long pleasure fest. Sure, it's a little strange that he only appears in her bed at night, but Gwen is so sure he's the one, she just can't turn him away...

Hawk Delgado knows more about Gwen than she could ever imagine. She's gorgeous, headstrong, and skittish about relationships. But Hawk is facing his own demons, demons that keep him from connecting with anyone. Yet when Gwen is drawn into Denver's lethal underground scene, Hawk's protective nature comes out full force. The problem is, when Gwen gets a dose of Hawk's Alpha attitude in the daylight, she's not so sure he's the one anymore....

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

When I decided to read this book I thought I was in for something, at the very least, interesting if not mind-blowing, since most of my friends seemed to love it. What I got was a messed up relationship, a shallow(and idiotic) heroine and a hero who... a hero... um, I really don't know what to say about the hero.

Reasons why the heroine was an impecile who should have died long ago:

1) She was having sex with a guy whose name she didn't even know. Not once or twice, but every week for 1,5 year!

2) Said sex was unprotected even though she suspected the guy had a parade of other lovers.

3) Her sister is in a ton of trouble which will lead at best in jail, at worst in death. Someone broke into her house. Someone set her father's house on fire. Yet all our brilliant heroine thinks about is dresses, shoes, guys.

4) The aforementioned guy knew everything about her even though she knew nothing. He had installed cameras at her house(without asking permission or informing her), he had her followed and he is determined she belongs to him, despite her protests.

All that even though he thought of her as a slut who all but dropped her panties to get his attention the first night, and then had sex with him without knowing who he was for 1.5 FUCKING YEAR!

Despite these facts she is seriously considering a relationship with him because he installed her a security system(without asking btw), got her a pair of "dreamy" shoes and carried her out of a fire(and I know it sounds all heroic and shit but she could have easily walked out on her own).

I guess let's forget his creapiness an his domineering ways since he got her shoes!

About the hero...I seriously can't tell you anything about him because at the 40% mark, the heroine doesn't know anything except that he is hot, he has 3 brothers and he used to be in the army(all of which she learned in the last two days, not the 1.5 year they'd been lovers).

I love a possessive, hot, Alpha male as much as the next girl but all this girl has seen of the hero so far is stalker-creepy, not sexy.

Btw did I mention that this TSTL girl with the fish IQ, this serial killer's victim waiting to happen, this godawful STD's best friend, has 4 hot guys pining for her? And as if she wasn't pathetic already, she also pants after them like some desperate 40 year old virgin. Seriously!

And the writing... Don't even get me started about the writing,

After I read about 40% of the book I got a little afraid that idiocy is contagious and decided to drop it as a precaution.

PS. Did I mention that this guy had been breaking into her house all this time? She hadn't given him keys or anything like that.

This will be yet another review where I will show off my fine skills of prioritizing. Forget the hero, the heroine, or the story. We have other stuff to take care of first.

Character description taken from the book itself :

I didn't expect to see tall, broad, inked-to-the-max, long blond-haired Dog standing at the other side of the counter.

HOLD THE PHONE. No one bothered to tell me that Dog the Bounty Hunter was making an appearance in this book.

Then...just when I thought it couldn't get any more surreal, I saw this :

her sister, Ginger Kidd

Wait a sec...is there really a character named ginger kid?

Disclaimer : I adore red haired children. Parents of red-haired children, please do not send hate mail because I posted a picture asking for help for ginger kids. I was only pointing out that this is a term not often used for flattery and probably not the best name for a book character.

Aw, hell. Let's just kick this review off with the characters.

Hawk - a.k.a. - The eighties called and they want their Camaro back. He's a hot man. I'm not gonna lie. The hair, the skin, the dimples, the boots, the multi-national heritage. He's like a taller version of the guy who plays Ranger in the Stephanie Plum movie.

Who am I to complain, really? Other than a weird fondness for mid-life crisis muscle cars, he's my kinda man. I don't appreciate that he put cameras in Gwen's house to spy on her (Really?!? You couldn't have monitored her from outside of the house?) but hey. He gives great sex and he's pretty to look at. Sometimes that's about as good as it's going to get.

Gwen - a.k.a. - Shallow, ditsy, fluffy girl. How the hell did this woman manage to get three hot guys willing to wage war over her? I could not stand this chick. After reading a book as long as this one was (and it was looooong), all I knew about her was that she drank cosmos, ate copious amounts of cookie dough, liked expensive shoes, and collected little black dresses. FFS, I would not want to hang out with this woman in real life. She had the depth of a potato chip. Although, I guess I can say that her big hair probably worked well with Hawk's camaro. At least they had a retro theme going on.

Since I've already figured out that nothing major changes about the men in these books other than how they look and what their jobs are, I'm hoping that the future will bring greater variety in the female lead department. I want to see big personalities, not Sex and the City wannabees.

The Story itself was...

Up and down. The first 15% was a lot of rambling about pop culture and side characters who weren't really in the story. Then things took off for a while and I was interested. Then we hit a downswing again when a couple of turf war issues repeated themselves. Then we hit an upswing, then a downswing, rinse and repeat. Gwen and Hawk were never really a believable couple to me until after they got back together for the last time and then it got good. The last couple of chapters and the epilogue were excellent. It's too bad that it took almost an entire book before I got excited about what was going on.

What interested me the most were the side characters. I'm looking forward to both Mitch and Tack's books. I have the feeling that I might like those books better, so fear not KA groupie girls. All is probably not lost.

The terminology was...

Eh. I think I'm used to it by now. I get that KA apparently loves nickname usage, which is something I loathe when it's used excessively in books. But I think I know that it's just part of the package and you have to deal with it if you're going to read and enjoy these books.

The squishy belly thing was just odd though. Gwen's belly got squishy a lot. I don't know if she was turned on or having indigestion.

Every male character sounded the same. I've noticed this in other books of this author's as well. The sentence phrasing is very stilted. I get that it's conversational, so I'm not knocking that, but it's highly unlikely that every single guy you ever come in contact with is going to talk in the same exact style. Especially when you have a commando, a police guy (or whatever Mitch was, don't remember) and a biker all speaking the same way. Last I checked, there is no universal guy phrasing.

Example : "I was another type of man, the type they are, I wouldn't hesitate gettin' in there and muddling your head by making my play."

However, there's always a silver lining...

As stated earlier, the last part of the book was pretty flipping incredible. The epilogue = outstanding.

It's a first book to a series. Sure, there were some flaws, but I think there's room for growth. The book entertained me well enough to keep going, and often that's good enough. I have the feeling that my feelings about the series will grow fonder as I continue on with the rest of the stories.

HOLY ALPHA MALES!!!!!!! Yowza!!!! *fans self*

I'm surprised this book didn't self-combust from the degree of utterly squee/drool/swoon-worthy, bossy, possessive, unapologetic, sweet, tender, badass, HOT UBER ALPHA males in it!! I mean WOW! This book is pure over-the-top deliciousness!

This book has it all: to-die-for hero, a sassy, smartass heroine, lots of action, hot hot sex, secret lairs, badass commandos, badass bikers, badass cops, drive-by's, cosmo parties, family time, romance, a few misty-eyed moments, laugh out loud humor, alpha males out the wazoo and just general over the top fun!

If you are at all a fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, the guys in this series are very much like the human versions of them. Epic alpha badasses!

You are kind of thrown right into the story. Gwen met her "Mystery Man" at a bar a year and a half ago. She was just sitting there having a good time with her friends when in walks this big, tall, smoking hot guy that she can't take her eyes off. And after an entire evening what trying to get his attention but being ignored, he gets up to leave and...

"I felt a warm hand on the skin of my lower back.”
I twisted my neck, looked up and there he was.
I held my breath and he asked, “You comin’ or what?”
That was it. That was his pickup line. “You comin’ or what?”
I went."

*swooooooooooon* Yeah... :D

He begins to come to her at night every few days, but never shows his face and always leaves before morning... and Gwen, just can't bring herself to end this "relationship" such as it is with her Mystery Man. But trouble brews right from the beginning of the story, namely with her very messed up sister getting herself into some SERIOUS trouble with the wrong people and Gwen is thrown head-first into Badass World where she comes face to face with her Mystery Man, Cabe "Hawk" Delgado and the sparks fly for real, in daylight.

Hawk literally defines "alpha"!

“You're bossy, arrogant, intrusive, annoying... "
His minor grin amplified.
See! Totally unrepentant...
"Do I have anything going for me?"
"... you can be sweet, you're a cuddler, and you carried me out of a burning building..."
"I'm a cuddler?"
"You spoon."
His brows went up. "That's important enough to be on your list?"
"Uh... yeah."
[He's grinning] "Fuckin' ridiculous what women think is important.”

The writing style is very real. Its almost written exactly as someone would speak or think. It flows quite nicely and ends up reading almost as if you are hearing the main character think out loud.

"Babe" has always been my favorite term of endearment that a guy can call a girl. There is something just so possessive, and sweet and swoony about it. But Hawk takes it to a whole new level. That one word can mean so many different complete sentences. It takes a good author to make you understand exactly what he means without him saying it with just one word :)

And Hawk is not the only Alpha in this story by far. He's the badass commando leader. But we also get to meet drool over Mitch Lawson: badass cop (serious swoon material - can't wait till book 3 to read his story), and Tack: badass biker leader among many many others.

""Are you here to freak me out in any other way?"
"Nope."
"This would include asking me for a date," I warned.
"Babe, don't date," he replied.
"You don't?"
"Do tequila shots followed by 5 hours of sex count as a date? he asked.
"Um... no," I answered.
"Then I don't date."
I smiled at him.
Then, stupidly, I asked. "You can have sex for 5 hours?"
He smiled at me.
Yikes.
Moving on."

There is a little bit of repetativeness in the dialogue, and the main couple have one stupid moment where I wanted to throttle them both, but the smooth writing, badass overload, laugh out loud moments, action, tender sweet moments, and uber alpha males kept me turning the pages and not wanting to put the book down!

And talk about a HEA! Such a sweet epilogue!!!!!

NO REVIEW, JUST A WARNING: BOOK CONTAINS IDIOCY

Ok I read this over five years ago and wasn’t on goodreads so didn’t write a review. Just gonna drop a content warning here for anyone who may consider reading this or for myself if I ever think to reread; like if I’ve lost my mind, been hit in the head, or a parasite has bored it’s way into my brain leaving me unable to remember this nonsense.

content warning
This woman has a one night stand with a guy, brings him to her house and never gets his name. This guy, who calls himself a commando (no idea what that is outside of the military), decides he’s not done with her yet and comes back at least once a week for a year and a half to bang her. A year of sex where she doesn’t know his name, doesn’t ever give him permission to enter her house, provide him with a key or anything and they don’t use condoms. He breaks in at night, while she’s sleeping in her bed and she utters NOT ONE word of protest.
Later he buys her a security system and CHASTISES her for allowing it to happen… like ya, she’s an idiot, but he broke into her house for sex and never gave her his name, his number, asked if she was on the pill, and just filled her with his jizz and left. Once or more a week for over a year. But he knew she was on the pill because he went through her purse while she was sleeping 😏.
Oh ya, and she finds out later that he had her in his phone as ‘Filler’ and had various other women in there under different days of the week, she backfilled when they weren’t available.
She’s not mad about it though. Because he’s hot and has dimples….and most likely chlamydia and syphilis.
This woman has fewer IQ point than this man has sex partners

Dearly beloved. We are gathered here

In sight of all romance readers around the world to join this Manwhore and this FILLER in a supposed happily ever after.

If there are any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace…

🙋🏻‍♀️
Shoutout to Mel for this line ^^^ 🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Gwen’s been sleeping with a man… SHE DOESN’T know. That’s right. This man has been breaking into her house for a year and a half, and she doesn’t even know his name.

What does he do when he breaks in? Well, they’re not playing go fish 🙄

Oh wait. Maybe the MM (Mystery Man) is, because he GO FISHES to LOTS of other women when he’s done with Gwen🙄. At least someone keeps winning while they play, and it’s never Gwen.

Gwen’s sister’s in trouble. Never mind that Gwen’s an idiot herself who doesn’t know how clean the d of the man that has been putting it in her for the last year and a half is, her sister’s involved in some bad shit, which means Gwen’s gonna be smart and not get involved

Bahahaha… WRONG! 🤣 come on! 🤣💀why would she listen to common sense 🤣💀

If she can’t even ask the man who f’s her his name, why would we ever think she’d be smart enough not to get involved in any bad or suspicious activity🤦🏻‍♀️

things I liked
—how JP MM was

—the OMD 😈

—the sweet moments/how protective Cabe is

—how many people help Gwen out, including her close friend Cam

—ummm… the incredulity I felt knowing that people could be THIS stupid in a book 🤣🤔🤔🤔🤔. I think my IQ went up (or shoot… maybe down 🤣 I don’t even know anymore)

things I didn’t like/I hated/pissed me off
I’m going to just add some quotes from the book here and write some commentary lol

"Um…” I mumbled.
“Um…” I mumbled, louder and more hysterical this time.
“Um…! ” It came out like a strangled cry.
“Um… if you’re asking ‘yeah?’ as in ‘Yeah, I get you,’ then no, I don’t get you,”
“Uh… okay,”
“Um…” I mumbled,
“Um…” I began

I could keep going, but you… um
Um
Um
Um
Get what I’m saying 🤣

I didn’t even know his name. “God,” I whispered, “I am such a slut.”

Hmmm. Okay. Slut shaming already? You’ve been sleeping with ONE guy… the ONE guy is the actual slut, not you. But… anywaysssssss

I was already regularly sleeping with a man whose name I didn’t know. A man I met at a restaurant just under a year and a half ago, took him to my home, slept with him and had the best sex in the history of womanhood.

Well, of COURSE he’s the best sex in the history of ALLLLL womanhood!! All the other women he was sleeping with will also agree with you 🙄

I didn’t even give him a key. How he got in was as much a mystery as his name. But he did. He didn’t come every night. Sometimes it was once a week. Sometimes twice. Sometimes he’d skip a week. Once he’d been gone for three, which freaked me out and then it freaked me out that it freaked me out. But he always came back. Always.

Pssst. He didn’t always come because he was also sleeping with other women 🤷🏻‍♀️ (or he was working… but my petty angry a$$ is going to say it’s probably other women related lol)

With Mystery Man in my life I didn’t need the trouble that Tack had written on him. Okay, so he thought I was cute and another bonus was that I knew his name and he knew mine (which, Mystery Man, by the way, did not know).

You know what Gwen? You should’ve taken Tack on his offer 👀

I’d had three dates and no lovers since I met the Great MM. None of them came close to what little I had with MM and therefore none of them got to the second date or second base. Yes, the Great MM was that good of a kisser.

Well, OF COURSE you had no lovers 🙄
Heaven forbid you do what the Great MM did 🙄
Because HeS jUsT sO gOoD aNd MaKeS yOu FeEl SpEsHuUL 🙄

The good thing is that she makes sure he uses condoms. You know, just in ca…
Oh wait. Nope. She doesn’t. Cause he doesn’t feel like it
Then something came to me. “You don’t use protection with me.” “I did the first few times.” This was true, he did. “But—” “Rifled through your shit, saw your birth control pills. Put you on radar, saw you shared that body with no one but me, decided it was unnecessary.”

Well, at least he knows SHE’s clean 🙄. She ONLY sleeps with him. Meanwhile, he’s sleeping around.
Also, how can you NOT notice he doesn't use protection???

I can’t with stupid 🤦🏻‍♀️. How many other women did he also go bare with?. I wonder how many women’s DNA/fluids got mixed in with Gwen’s 😐.

That’s one way to bond with women 🤢

”One thing that doesn’t have any mystery when it comes to Delgado is His Days.” “His Days?” Tracy repeated. Cam nodded at her. “Otherwise known as His Women.”

“You’re known as Filler.” Oh my God. I’m known as Filler?” I whispered. She nodded. “He’s feeling like a switch-up, or one of his women is out of town or he’s got a slot open he hasn’t filled yet, he comes to you.” “I’m known as Filler,” I repeated. “Honey—” Tracy whispered. “Who knows me as Filler?” I asked Cam. “Um…” She hesitated then said, “Everyone now.”

Damn. I’m sorry Gwen. This part suuuuucked. You’re probably not the only one who didn’t know his name…

Oh no. Wait…
”She knew,” I stated. “What, babe?” Cam asked. “Thursday, she knew. She knew what she was, who she was, her day. She knew his name. She knew his number.” “Well, um—” Cam started. I cut her off. “I guess, if you get a guaranteed slot, you get his contact details. But Filler, now Filler is just filler.”

Fudge. Thursday knew his name. Damn. But don’t worry Gwen. Chin up. You’re gonna move on. Leave MM AKA Cabe and never do this again

But wait…

There’s more

When she finally confronts Cabe, this is what happens:
"...Gayle calls herself Thursday because she’s got another man who doesn’t do it for her and he goes out and gets shitfaced on Thursdays and doesn’t come home until the bars close so I feel like her, I visit her. I don’t have a schedule… Gwen, forget about what you thought you read into what I said. I’m tellin’ you now, straight out, how it is. And I’m not gonna feed you shit about there not bein’ others. There are others. And I think you get that I’m not a man inclined to waste my time doin’ precisely what I’m doin’ right fuckin’ now, explaining myself.”

And you’d think that Gwen would be pissed right?

Gwen, “honey” “babe” “baby” did you hear what he said ^^ he said there ARE others ^^

Hmmm. Maybe she heard it? She seems kind of upset…

Then he tells her this:
”Gayle’s never been here, she’s never gonna be here, and her place got shot up in a drive-by, she asked my advice, I’d tell her to talk to the police. Now, do you get where I’m comin’ from here?”

Awwww! Isn’t he sweet??? At least she’s the only one of his women that’s been to his place 🥹… annnnd, he’s willing to take care of her… (I normally would be swooning at the last part, but I don’t even care 🤷🏻‍♀️)

And then he tells her like it is:
”You say I don’t listen to you but you haven’t been listenin’ to me. We’re gonna ride this wave, you and me, what we got, what we had the night before last, even, fuck me, what we have right now. Don’t think for a second you can give me the sweet taste you gave me yesterday morning and then freak out and think you can cut ties. And while we’re doin’ it you’re not getting filled with holes, kidnapped, tortured and mutilated for your fuckin’ sister. Not on my watch.”

Do you know why she freaked out????
Hmmmm??
Ummm…
Because she heard a voicemail from ANOTHER WOMAN whom you’ve been sleeping with for who knows how long… annnnnnd, we don’t even know if YOU’VE BEEN USING PROTECTION WITH THE OW OR ANYONE ELSE that you slept with 😐. THAT'S WHY!?!?!?! I can't blame him for being an idiot though...
Why?
Um…
Um…
Uh…
Because Gwen never ASKS. ANY. QUESTIONS!🤦🏻‍♀️

Then the conversation becomes about her safety and Tack being there when she was shot at and her sister and then…

Well, then he orders her food. You know. Totally normal regular day for them 🙄

The next day, he goes down on her (which he’s SOOOO GOOD AT… he OBVIOUSLY had LOTS of practice) and f’s her… no protection… she straight up didn’t even think about the fact that he basically confessed that he’s slept around

Like… Gwen… you okay girl?? 🤔

SMDH

He just spoke his word and she’s just supposed to accept it and forget the fact that

HE WAS F’ING OTHER WOMEN while he was with her!! 🙄🤬

IDGAF that they weren’t “official” and it’s not considered “cheating”

His D was in other women 🤷🏻‍♀️ and she never asked questions 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Now even the most BASIC question like “are you using condoms with the other women?”
Or even “are you clean?”
Or, you know, maybe a REALLY important one like
“Are you married or have a girlfriend?” 🤦🏻‍♀️

How am I madder about this than her?

I’m gonna come back and add to this review lol

4/13/18 - ON SALE for $1.99:

https://amzn.to/2vaoLTb

Right off the bat, if you want to know if this is a book for you, ask yourself this question (and answer it HONESTLY): do you find the idea of meeting a ridiculously hot alpha male--we're talking ex-special forces--at a bar, taking him home for the best sex OF YOUR LIFE, never learning his name, then afterwards him leaving, never to be seen again, except a few days later he's back in your bed, waking you for more of the best sex OF YOUR LIFE, a pattern that continues for over a year, until a situation with your wild child sister puts you in danger and drags him out of the shadows and into the daylight of your life, b/c Big, Strong Man protects what he considers his (i.e. YOU), and the best sex OF YOUR LIFE turning into something more . . . HOT?

I didn't ask if you thought the scenario was wise. I didn't ask if you thought it was realistic. I asked if you thought it was HOT.

And if the answer is a resounding YES, then you will love this book.

If not, don't waste your time. It'll just make everyone mad. You, b/c you will NOT love the book, and everyone else, b/c OHMYGAWD we do and don't want to feel slut-shamed for OHMYGAWD loving it.

5 Cabe “Hawk” Delgado Stars!!!

Photobucket
I LOVE HAWK! Just going to put that out there before I review this book! How can you not??? What a yummy alpha male! Okay okay now to the book...

A year and a half. Thats how long Gwendolyn Kidd has been sleeping with MM, her Mystery Man. A year and a half ago she heard these words at the bar...
“You comin’ or what?”
She took MM home with her that night, and now he makes regular weekly visits. Sneaks in at night, then disappears.
Gwen is having some issues with her sister, Ginger. Ginger is bad news.
”Why me? Why? Just innocently being born and seven years later, zap! God curses me with the sister from hell.”

Ginger is in trouble and Gwen is threatened. She doesn’t know who to turn to, so she goes to the local MC club where Gingers bf Dog is. She meets Tack there. She catches his attention. She also catches the eye of Mitch Lawson, the detective on her sisters case. This same day, she finally sees MM in the light of day.

Hawk shows up at Gwen’s house to help. He explains things to her and stakes his claim to Tack and Mitch. Gwen is his woman. She’s a little confused about all this, especially the fact that he knows everything that is going on in her life when they only sleep together. She doesn’t even know his name.
”How do you know so much about me?”

“Sweet Pea, I know who I fuck.”

Hawk is a bad ass alpha man. He is sexy, protective, bossy and hot as hell. How he answers a lot of Gwen’s questions:“Babe” and when he leaves its because he’s ”Got shit to do, babe.”
Their ‘first date’-
“Tonight, you in a little black dress and high heels, I’ll be there at seven thirty.”
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
“Sweet Pea, I’ve been fuckin’ you for a year and a half.”

“I know.”
“So no, I’m not askin’. I’m tellin’. You, dress, heels, I’ll be there at seven thirty.”
“So you’re not asking me out on a date, you’re telling me we’re going on a date?”

“That’s about it.”

“You can’t tell me we’re going out on a date.”

“Just did, babe.”

Love Hawk! Just love him! He wants to make Gwen his. I also really like Gwen. She is funny and spunky. I like her attitude. She is hesitant to be with Hawk. There is so much going on in her life right now, with her family and all the drama. Gwen is still keeping Hawk at arms length. They both have issues from past relationships, but are willing to try to make it work.
“Do you promise to handle me with care?”

“Promise” he whispered
“Swear?” I pushed.
“Swear, baby.”

“You had a hand up too, Hawk.” I told him.
“Dropped it a while ago, Gwen.”

There is a lot going on in this book... I won’t go on and on just READ IT!!! Loved Hawk and Gwen’s story! It was super hot(no woman in their right mind would have kicked Hawk out of bed), lots of action(break ins, drive by shootings, kidnappings, fires...yeah), romance(swoooon Hawk), and steam! I will just say, I can’t wait to read Tack’s book because I kind of love him too!!! :D

Some of my favorite quotes (there were so many good ones!):

“Sweet Pea, the way you eat means you got tits and ass. This is good because I like tits and ass.”

“A year and a half. Totally fuckin’ missed out.”

“Cookie dough,” I explained. “My booty is carefully crafted from copious intake of cookie dough.”

“Whatever you’re doin’, sweetheart, it’s workin’, so don’t stop.”

“You got it wrong, in only a weekI was already tied to you. I wal already in deep. It was only a week, but it happened, you didn’t see it and you wen in for the kill.

”

“You’re in deep with me, aren’t you baby?” I whispered to confirm my question.
“Drowning.” He whispered back.

(Reread)

I am on my Kristen Ashley roll and I am reading some of my favorites. I loved the story between Gwen and Hawk. The beginning kind of threw me a little the first time I read it because yeah he’s a stranger creeping into her house to have hot sex with her.

But once we get introduced to Hawk I loved him. I guess you could call him a commando and he ran a group of mercenaries. When Gwen is threatened he comes to the rescue.

There is just something about a classic KA book. The alphas are amazing….possessive and hot and you get all the feels. They take control.

This was the first book in a series so we are introduced to multiple characters. It is a longer book but definitely worth the read.

Mystery Man is the first book in the Dream Man series and while it has Kristen Ashley written all over it - no pun intended, it’s a little more romantic suspense than the Colorado Mountain series.

Cabe “Hawk” Delgado is another hot, over the top, super alpha hero and I love, love, LOVE him! Gwendolyn Kidd is a great heroine; Smart, savvy, independent, and takes no crap from anyone. Though I love how, being wooed by three alpha males, she doesn’t quite know what to think, but that doesn’t stop her from putting them all their places when needs be.

I don’t know how she does it, but Kristen Ashley produces book after book of fantastic stories and characters, and I can’t get enough of them!

Some of the story premise was a little out there but it had the sexy alpha male you come to expect from KA. Hawk is actually one of the less intense heroes I've read from her as far as possessiveness is concerned. He had enough to play it up but he was pretty cool about it.... Well compared to someone like Knight that is lol The plot did lose me briefly but it wrapped up nicely. Gwen did not win me over like the other heroines have. I'd rate this a 4.5.

Re-Read number 100000001. I STILL get all pissed at how KA twists Hawk's being an asshole that dumps Gwen into somehow being Gwen's fault and she has to beg him to forgive her!! And...DO NOT even get me started on his mother coming to yell at Gwen and guilt tripping her when it was HER son that was being the asshole...sigh. Why do I keep re-reading this book?? LMAO

description

There are so many things that annoy me with this book, Gwen's an idiot, Hawk is a douche, but it is still one of my favorite books and I re-read it often...

Re-Read April 2017. My above sentiments are the same. Such a ridiculous book but I still love every minute of it!

3 to 3.5 stars

The three star rating is completely due to Gwen's annoying and nitwitted character. Not even Hawk, the swoonalishous hero, could fully save this book for me.

I really tried to love this book but the heroine just rubbed me wrong. Really, really wrong! I understand why Hawk was enamored by her, he's the hero after all; but I'm still trying to figure out why Mitch and Tack were so smitten with her. I just don't get it! Of all Kristen Ashley heroines I've read, Gwen had the least substance to her character. And don't get me started on her (figuratively speaking) bed hopping. Ugh! I did, however, like the last 20% of the book, and the epilogue was fantastic!

Dear Gwen

No, I'm not a stalker. Why would you think that? I just wanted to talk to you about all that's happened in the last couple of weeks. Since you're not available (aka won't meet me), I'll just lay it all here.

First of all I'm really sorry about Ginger. She has always been trouble, but I never thought it would come to this. Gangs, cops, FBI. I'm also very sorry you got caught up in it. But, really you could always see there's something wrong with that one...

“Ginger. A pain in my ass. A pain in my ass since the day she cut off all the hair on my Barbies. She was three. I was too old for Barbies but they were mine. She couldn’t leave them alone? What’s with cutting their hair?” I looked up at Dog and said, “I think that’s what psychos do. We should have known then. She’s three, wielding scissors and causing mayhem and heartbreak.” I kept blabbing as I dug in my purse, found my checkbook and then kept scrounging for a pen declaring, “She was always, always a bad seed.”

Now, I know you girls have settled your problems, so I'll let off that one.

About your Mystery Man. Sweety, a year and a half? Even leaving with him at the bar, after four words spoken is too much. He could've been a serial killer, a psycho! And then, letting him come for so long, just for sex, not knowing his name or anything? That's not all right, girl. Especially since he knew, like, everything. Oh, and don't even get me started on the lack of protection. You don't even know his name...STD, anyone? I know you had Sex Ed, girl. You need to take care of yourself.

I didn’t even give him a key. How he got in was as much a mystery as his name. But he did. He didn’t come every night, sometimes it was once a week, sometimes twice, sometimes he’d skip a week, once he’d been gone for three which freaked me out and then it freaked me out that it freaked me out.

And, that wasn't a clue for you to do something?

Well, I guess the Ginger incident was good for something. It brought you Hawk. And it could've gotten you Mitch or Tack, too. They're all such hunks. What on Earth did you do to get them interested? I can't get one guy, and you got three (4 counting Troy), just by talking to them for a minute! And they're willing to start a war for you or something! I'm sorry, I just found that hard to believe. Just tell me, did you slip them something? 'Cause, if you did I want it. And I think you flitted to them, when you and Hawk had problems, too often. You like a guy and have momentary problems, you sit down and talk to him, you don't jump to another guy's bike and hide. Geez!

Still, I'm glad to see he conquered your defense system. You always ran from intimacy, even with him (hence the biker escapade), so I'm glad he saw that and dealt with it. I think you both made some mistakes (you ran when just a hint of a problem showed up, he was, well, Hawk), but I think your love is beautiful. And it was so fun going through all those things with you.

“Sweet Pea, what do you think I do for a living?”
“Well,” I started. “You fly on your supersonic jet to hot, humid, tropical, war torn nations, execute your duties as a soldier for hire which means doing things like blowing up bridges and beating infidels into submission.”
“Hard to do that and get home to take you to dinner,” he noted.
“Hawk, your jet is supersonic,” I reminded him.

All in all, I think you're a great gal, funny as hell, and damn lucky to have Cabe.

Now, because Hawk is a controlling SOB, and is probably afraid this letter is actually just a scam, and holds anthrax or something, he's going to read it. So, I just thought I'd talk to him, just a bit, ok?

Dear Hawk

You are one of the hottest guys I've ever met. You can be sweet, you buy your girl shoes and you're good in bed. However, there are moments when your bossiness and controlling tendencies win out, and you cross the line into being too controlling and bossy. She is her own person and this isn't the 12th century. You can't just make decisions for her, without talking to her.

“I have to do what I have to do to deal with my woman, not a man in your yard will lift a finger to help you.”

“Gwen, baby, clue in. I was makin’ you mine. When I make a woman mine, I do my homework.”

And that gig at the start, you put cameras on her and had daily reports? Why not just talk to her, for Chrissake? That was just weird. And you're right, that year and a half-totally missed out.

I'm very sorry about everything that happened to you and I'm glad you found Gwennie. Keep her happy, keep her safe, and try to control her cookie dough obsession...

Love, Mimi

P.S-you might ask yourself how I know all this. That's ok, keep asking.

------------------------------------------

And I know this totally breaks the concept but I had to put it here:

The newspapers had broken the stories of their adventures, and their love lives, some time ago. This was followed by a bunch of books, a series entitled Rock Chick, that were released sharing intimate detail of these hair-raising yet romantic adventures. Books, incidentally, I owned, read repeatedly and wished I’d edited.

I love Kristen Ashley for this. Self promotion, with a dash of humor about the editing problems.

PACKING MY BAGS AND MOVING TO DENVER...YOU GET ME?

Once there, I'm finding an abandon warehouse tying myself up and waiting for Hawk Delgado to come rescue me. A girl can dream right?

description

Gwendolyn Piper Kidd is a self-employed freelance editor whose marriage fell apart. She is out on the town having cosmos with her girls when she spots super hawt “Mystery Man”. When he gets up and leaves she fears that she didn’t catch his eye. He then stops by her stool on his way out and says:

"You comin' or what?" That was it. That was his pickup line. "You coming' or what?" I went.

Gwen and Mystery Man have a sexual relationship for a year and a half. He breaks into her home at night and slips into her bed regulary.

The way this relationship plays out during this time is strange for this reader: #1: She never asks his name? and #2:She never speaks to him at all?

I would have been waiting at the front door for him or at the least left the windows and doors unlocked!

When danger finds Gwen the first person to show to protect her is Mystery Man. She then finds out that he knows all about her and she learns who he is. Cabe “Hawk” Delgado is a badass alpha commando who speaks in phrases like "you with me" and "Babe eyes". Hawk has the means to protect her through his background and his business.

Gwen also finds out that he saw her first at the bar that night:

I asked to be seated in that booth,” he informed me and I sucked in a breath at what he might be saying. Then I breathed it out on a, “What?” “Clocked you before you clocked me, Gwen.”

Gwen’s troubles land her the attention of other hot alphas: Tack from Ride and Detective Mitch Lawson who are interested in protecting her and winning her attention.

Conquering explosions, kidnappings and the Russian Mafia, Hawk fights through any obstacles for Gwen. They get to know each other during these life threatening events and fall completely in love.

Did I mention Hawk has dimples? Yes, forgot that one!

I tried to stick it out because so many adore the series- but between the god awful dialog, "umm... Yeah". "ummmm". Umm" , and the wince worthy 1st person narrative, "then i walked in the front door. Then i walked to the kitchen. Then i pulled out a chair. Then i sat down.".

And to say nothing of the fact the main character is an obvious Mary Sue for the author. And last but certainly not least, I can usually handle the uber-alpha hero, love me some Barrons who alot of people can't handle, but the hero in this one is a jackass, plain and simple- WHATEVER THE REASONS FOR HIS BEHAVIOR!

Honestly, it was the appalling lack of finesse in the writing that did me in.

Uncle. I give up.

Needing some space to regroup, I took a ride back to re-discover books and authors that touched me and wouldn't let go. Kristen Ashley has always been my calming go to. She has this way of writing that once you get her mindset and understand how she weaves a tale, it can be addicting, especially with her "Vintage OG series. These books are always something I come back to.

5 Recognizing How Great This Was Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
When I first read this, it was during the binge of all KA. I think I had read Motorcycle Man and At Peace first... then did this series or Rock Chicks. I really can't remember right now. The reason I am bringing this up is to say...

I Was Wrong....

Yup, I gave this a 4 star. It was during my thinking on the books I read while adding them to GR when I first came on. No reviews, just thinking back on how I felt while reading them. The reason I gave this a 4 was the fact it had annoyed me Gwen had this guy come into her house for a year and a half and didn't ask his name or anything...just could not relate to it.

In Real Life, I still would never relate to that happening.... but now that I have read so much of KA, I understand the setup and reasons.

This book is PURE KA.
It is Vintage in all the wordy goodness she does. She will create an environment where kooky things will happen and you believe it. She has these Commando men... all hot, not a dud among them, and you accept it.

Gwen is smart- an editor (a nod to us readers), has her own girl posse, a back story which gives her vulnerabilities to overcome and sass. She is fully formed; has her quirks, has a complicated family history but a healthy relationship with her Stepmom and Father. So she is capable.

Throw her into this scenario of a hook up with an Uber hot guy; brings him home and one drunken night turns into surprise stealth booty calls.

Add a messed up half-sister and visit from an equally messed up friend of said half-sister which causes Gwen to go to resident biker past boyfriend of a half-sister to see what the hell is going on.

This, in turn, causes Hot Biker Tack to meet Gwen and put her on his "interest" radar...
Which causes Mystery Man Hot Sexy Booty Call to materialize in the Daylight for the first time to Gwen.

All of the above sets in motion a Perfect KA story with heart, sexy times, sarcasm, terrific descriptions of houses, dresses, shoes, and men. It also provides deep revealing moments of both characters and insight into many circumstances that everyday people really could experience and relate to.

This is KA's Talent. She gives fantasy which has its core in reality. She does it extremely well. She does it so well that you are so deep into the book, you don't realize how committed you are until Real Life pulls you away...and you do not want to go and do whatever you are supposed to do.

So upon re-reading this book, I changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Also since I have been reading and now reviewing for over 2 years, had read more of her recent works...this re-read gave me a sense of what she has done in the past... and where she has been going, and now writing. I would be remiss if I didn't say they are similar but different. They are diffidently her books, her voice...but the newer books have had even more personal focus than moving forward with action... maybe more introspective. Which isn't a bad thing... just different than these staples.

I loved reading this with all of my memories of characters that I knew more of because they had their own books...these characters' actions would ring true to me... cause me to think on them, too... adding to my enjoyment.

So, If like me, you have read these books, put them on your shelf, and continued your reading of other new books of KA.... then maybe it might be time to do a re-read...a refresher in why KA clicked with you...of opening that delightful discussion in your head or on a group here of who is your favorite Dream Man.

I am off to visit Tack...Oh, and by my re-reading this book, especially... I know I will get even more out of it... for I never understood the thing about "Peaches" and him... and now I do.

Update 9/10/13
Fabulous!! I have become a big audiobook person lately because real life is crazy and I desperately need my romance fixes!! This audiobook and narrator were spectacular, her voice totally nailed all the crazy personalities...it was SO MUCH FUN!! The story already is one of my favorites, then add the voice of the narrator and it makes the colorful characters and story even more enjoyable.

5+++ STARS -- A non-stop, wild ride! Mystery Man was the land of BADASSES and the testosterone was overflowing everywhere, I would be surprised after reading this that I don't have hair on my chest. The story had an explosive romance and tons of action plus MAJOR BONUS! another gentle and perfect epilogue. I could see this one on the big screen - heck I could see many of KA books as movies.

Hawk, the hero, was Gwen's mystery man and she had been his booty call for a year and a half. He had said like 3 words to her at a restaurant, I think they were"Are you coming?" After that he would just show up in her bed give her lots of "O's" coupled with wild romps and then be gone in the morning. Gwen struggled with her conscience and this pattern, but in the end gave in to it even though this submissive behavior was so far from Gwen's spunky personality. Then Gwen is threatened and dragged into a big mess because of her trashy sister's illegal actions. Gwen marches into a biker shop that houses a very dangerous biker gang to find out where her sister is. She catches the eye of the gang leader who is HOT! then is interrogated by a police detective who is HOT! and then her midnight mystery man shows up (who is HOT!) to scold her. Once Hawk opens his mouth to tell her she has just created a big mess she decides she doesn't like his high handedness and they are over...he shouldn't have opened his mouth. Hawk laughs at her, loves the attitude that she gives him and realizes how much he has missed out of over the pass year and a half with not getting to know her. Such parody, it was hysterical.

Hawk was killer, beyond arrogant, I mean if there was a scale from 1 to 10 he would be like 100 and I mean arrogant not just confident. Enter Gwen, Hawk's perfect match, she didn't take his crap (except for the the first year and a half when he didn't open his mouth, at least for talking) At the beginning because Gwen had many other potential leading men, I wasn't even sure I wanted her with Hawk, but as the story progressed there was no questions. I actually think of all of KA alpha men that I have met so far Hawk would be their leader. Mystery Man also had so many other lovable characters from family to friends, a couple a different climaxes, some heart pounders, some heartbreakers--loved them all. I can't wait to read my next Kristen Ashley book!

5 stars – Romantic Suspense

All the single ladies, all the single ladies
All the single ladies, all the single ladies
All the single ladies...

Now pack your bags up!

Considering there’s not one but four yummy heroes introduced in this first book in the Dream Man series that’s set in Denver, Colorado (all of whom get their own book...YAY!), not to mention the smokin’ hot, badass alpha heroes from Ashley’s Colorado Mountain series, and it definitely wouldn’t be surprising if all the single ladies suddenly packed up and moved to Colorado.

Mystery Man is Cabe “Hawk” Delgado’s book. Initially, I was far more fascinated and smitten with Detective Mitch Lawson and biker badass Tack (two of the aforementioned yummy Dream Men who will have leading roles in Law Man and Motorcycle Man respectively). But of course Hawk soon won me over and left me panting, daydreaming, and swooning like all of KA’s heroes.

Hawk is a growly, bossy, arrogant, brooding, domineering, and possessive uber alpha commando who could teach Tate from Sweet Dreams a thing or two about being a badass, including the correct, standard rumbling response to anything and everything...“Babe”.

There were several times I wanted to smack both Hawk and Gwen, but they eventually got their sh*t together. Kristen Ashley is a master when it comes to dreamy, gratifying epilogues, and this time was certainly no exception...just heartwarming perfection. 5 stars!

WARNING: This will contain spoilers, Rants, Curses, Confusion and bad Grammar. Read at your own peril

Takes breath.... Takes deeper breath
Okay. I COULD through a huge ass hissy fit, fill this space with *head-desk* giffs and bash this book to tethers, but I won't.
I won't because I pride myself in being a fair reviewer, and because the author tried, she went out there, took her time , wrote a book, hired an editor, got a publisher, you get the drift. The woman, I presume, gave it her all, and I don't want to bash that, instead, my dearest Goodreaders, I will present to you the following evidence and leave you to decide what is fair and not...

Exhibit A :
Sluts & Alpha Males

You know, I have no issues with sluts, I mean we all have the capacity to be sluts, and I'm not berating our main character for being one, I'm just stating that, well, she is a slut.
In a nut shell:

Our female lead, Gwen, had a one night stand with a guy one night, and ever since then he's been coming back for more. That's ok, except she doens't know his name and knows nothing about him. That's okay too. What's NOT ok, is that he SNEAKS in at night, she doens't know how, she doesnt know when, all she knows is:
I felt a hand light on the small of my back

That's how he alerts her of his presence, so basically this guy sneaks into her home, wakes her up by putting his hand on her back, has sex with her, and fucks off. nice. nice. The guy is OBSESSED with the small of her back!

I felt the intense warmth of Hawk's hand at the Small of my back

as his hand slid out of my dress and up to the small of my back

a warm hand hit the small of my back

I could go on. It's just so redundant!

Anyways, when they finally meet in the light of day (this is better explained in Exhibit B we discover that Cabe "Haw" Delgade, yes that is his name, is a domineering, bossy, infurtiating Alpha Male, by the end of the book we discover he's the way he is because his wife and daughter died in a tragic accident and he lost his marbles and became over protective, fine, I understand but that does NOT justify the following behaviour:

1. He thinks the best solution to deal with Gwen is to manhandle her. Examples:

Gwen: This relationship is over
Hawk: *pushes her up against the wall and holds her jaw in place* It's over when I say it is

Gwen: *having a bitch fit because someone just shot at her*
Hawk: *pushes her up against the wall and holds her jaw in place* calm down.

Gwen: Get out of my house I dont want to see you anymore
Hawk: *hauls her to bed, hugs her to him, locks her with his legs* Go to sleep Gwen.

Why. Why?! I don't agree with characters like this, I strongly don't agree with horny female characters either. The only reason she stays with him is because when he manhandles her, ALTHOUGH SHE SAYS SHE'S ANGRY, she ends up kissing him.
How can a guy push you around like that, and then just kiss you and make it all better?! You see? Slut.

2. All the time they have been having an affair and she did not know his name, he had his "commandos" following her around, he knows what time she eats, what time she sleeps, who she hangs out with, her parents history, EVERYTHING. He's also got security cameras everywhere in her house. Stalker? No! According to Gwen, this means he cares! Aww.

In addition to all this sillines, Gwen is also attracted to 2 OTHER guys. She harps on and on about how she loves Hawk, then somehow ends up kissing the other 2. Oopthiee! Fuck off.

Exhibit B
Plot Failure

I don't understand the side plot myself. Gwen's step sister is a crack whore who stole money from some dangerous people, but she also owes this biker gang (which is headed by one of Gwen's love interests) money and then there is her best friend, another crack whore, Darla, who wants to kill her.

I STILL dont know what Hawk does, but he has money to drive a camaro, he install security systems, he has "commandos", his office is a high tech CSI Miami scene, he has guns, he managed to beat up 3 guys while he was tied up from his ankles.

So we have one biker leader, one mystery alpha dominant male and one detective whose trying to solve the case all with the hots for Gwen.

So basically, as a summary
Everyone likes Gwen, Gwen likes Hawk, and everyone elses's kisses, Hawk's wife died, Gwen's sister is a crack whore, Lawson (the detective), Hawk and Tank(the biker), spend their time trying to protect Gwen and make her love them, a bunch of kidnappings occur, and finally, obviously, Gwen and Hawk hook up, and EVERYONE IN THE BOOK STAYS FRIENDS FOREVER!

Exhibit C
Grammar Nazi

Everyone called each other "babe" :

Hawk to Gwen. Gwen to Hawk, Gwen to her friends, her friends to each other, Gwen to lawson , lawson to Gwen, Gwens mom to Gwen, Gwen to her crack whore sister. Which amounted to Babe/Baby being repeated 234 times !!! As if that wasn't bad enough, the author felt the need to be creative and bombarded us with:

Honey - 45 times
Sweet Pea- 70 times
Peaches- 19 times

For some reason all the characters had the grammar and vocabulary skills of a Gangster who dropped out of school in the 5th grade, while Gwen graced us with the "word" "Um" 71 times.
SEVENTY ONE TIMES.

Nough Said.

You know why I got angry? Because I LOVE mindless chick flicks, and I was willing to forgo so maanny of the above, in fact, the first few chapters had me ROLLING ON THE GROUND with laughter. Then BAM , slamming to walls and manhandling occurs, and that is just not my peice of cake.

All I can say is:

This is your fault Christian Grey.

Meet the guys... ;)

ADMIRER #1 :

NAME: Mitch Lawson.
OCCUPATION: Detective Mitch Lawson ;)

"Mitch".I whispered.
"What a perfect name ,soft and strong, things a cop need to be... Mitch."
He stared at me."Is it?", he asked.
"Perfect".
He stared at me some more.

DESCRIPTION With the perfect cop name that starts with 3 silent constables and ends with 'Lawson' as in 'son of the law.' Mitch is the hot-ass,soft spoken smoldering detective put on the case to bring down Gwendoline's little sister-from-hell 'Ginger' while sticking around to ensure he gets the elder to fall in love with him as well....

ADMIRER #2 :

NAME: Cabe "Hawk" Delgado. aka 'Mystery Man.'
OCCUPATION: secret-agent extraordinaire.

“Don't call me baby when you're pissed, Sweet Pea."
"Don't call me Sweet Pea at all, baby.”

DESCRIPTION: Possessive, dominant and hot.Hawk is the definition of a beautiful nightmare. After maintaining a strict friends with benefit relationship for over a year with his girl 'Gwen',he's finally decided to come out in the broad daylight and claim her as his own...the outer whole world be damned.

ADMIRER #3 :

NAME: Tack

"Babe, don't date," he replied.
"You don't?"
"Do tequila shots followed by 5 hours of sex count as a date?", he asked.
"Um... no," I answered.
"Then I don't date."
I smiled at him.
Then, stupidly, I asked. "You can have sex for 5 hours?"
He smiled at me.Yikes....Moving on.”

DESCRIPTION :This tall ,blue-eyed biker has got it all.Money,brains,power...and now he's decided he wants Gwen too.Tack's decided to take her as a challenge. And a challenge ? Well that's exactly what he lives and breathes for..its just that now its for Gwen too.

THOUGHTS:
Mystery man was surprisingly a fun read, that kept me laughing while swinging through the chapters from the beginning to its the end..Loved watching all 3 Alpha-Hot males fighting to win over our heroine,Miss Gwendoline Kidd aka 'Queen crash and burn' in all possible ways..whether they had to beg, borrow or steal...(or kidnap her in this case.)

I absolutely loved every secondary character, starting from the family members to her best friends, all who I felt came along and added their added personal touches to the final plot.

Wow! Mystery Man is another great story and hilariously penned by Kristen Ashley! Kristen swept me right off my feet and directed me straight to reader's heaven. She does it all the time! I can't help it but I just have to gush all the time.

Cabe "Hawk" Delgado comes straight from Badass World. Hawk is another great alpha male and very bossy. On top of that, he is hot as all get out! And badass Hawk is locking horns with smartass Gwen! She is feisty, determined and can hold her own. Gwen, you kick ass! You will meet quite a few super hot guys in Mystery Man. Yeesh, the hot-o-meter was extremely busy and wheezing! *wipes eyebrows* I have to say that Hawk made a fine job in staking his claim. If there were any doubts yet then…"Clue in, babe!"

"Friendly advice. Next time get your head outta your ass and stake your claim."
My body went solid but it still turned woodenly toward Hawk and I snapped loudly, "Hawk!"
Hawk looked down at me. "Man to man, babe, he's a man, he can take it and he's gotta know he fucked up."
For the first time in my life I was wishing murder wasn't illegal.

When Gwen thinks about Cabe's job then she's got that on her mind (um, maybe she was joking, I'm not all that sure, though):

"You fly on your supersonic jet to hot, humid, tropical, war torn nations, execute your duties as a soldier for hire which means doing things like blowing up bridges and beating infidels into submission."

The first half of the book is absolutely hilarious and the testosterone is all over the book. There were so many laughing-out-loud moments that I had to wipe my eyes. The dialogs were…hilarious. Cool. Wonderful. As always, Kristen does a fine job in developing and portraying all those wonderful characters. The plot got somewhat more serious throughout the second half of the book. Gwen had to unravel Cabe's secret. He is the Mystery Man after all. Hawk is protecting himself from pain and Gwen helped him to find his way back into the light. There's quite a bit of drama weaved into the plot - especially towards the end of the story.

Ultimately, Gwen entered Badass World and Cabe entered Cosmo Girl World! YOWZA!

Kristen, you were born under a lucky star! Keep the good stories coming! Honestly, I can't wait to read Mitch Lawson and Kane Allen's stories.
I totally enjoyed Mystery Man and if you want a good laugh then I highly recommend you to give this story a go! Enjoy!

On a personal note:
Gwen loves shoes; I am so there, babe! Mmmm…shoes to-die-for… *dreamy sigh* BTW, I love the way Kristen writes about clothes, shoes, furniture, and houses/flats. Seriously, Cabe's lair was the sh*t! Loved it!

- they have a ONS that turned into a fuck buddy relationship for 1.5 yrs in which he fucked other girls along with the h. She remained faithful and he knew he was the only one she fucked.

Technically not cheating? He does call the h “his woman” but he’s still fucking OW while fucking the h, he’s such a slut that he had a different woman every day of the week. The h was one of those woman, so to me it’s the same shit as cheating.

““I’m known as Filler?” I whispered.
She nodded. “He’s feeling like a switch-up, or one of his women is out of town or he’s got a slot open he hasn’t filled yet, he comes to you.”

She knew about the numerous ow but didn’t want to say anything because she didn’t want to lose him. He also didn’t use a condom. What a fucking doormat.

What’s worst is that she didn’t even know his name or anything else while he broke into her house weekly for sex! He could’ve been a married man with an innocent wife and 5 sweet kids, but she doesn’t even bother asking if he’s married, that’s not important? They’re in their 30s, he wants to meet in secret for sex, the likelihood that someone is married is very high in this age range and she doesn’t question any of that because he’s hot?…

And women readers are calling this crap an amazing romance book?

Fourth read: February 8-16, 2017

Let me first state that the audio version is a 3 star rating and the printed version is still a 5 star rating.

This re-read started out as an audio review, but around the 49% mark I had to go find my place on my Kindle and read the rest of the book from there.

There are two reasons why I did this:
1) I could read this book faster than the narrator was speaking.
2) I didn't care for the narration.
Don't get me wrong, she did a great job of narrating the story, but in my mind how she was reading the characters was not how I heard them in my head.

This is one of my favorite books by Kristen Ashley, and I didn't want another interpretation of the story other than the one my imagination and mind created while reading the story.

Still a favorite, but I think I'll stick to the printed version.

First read: March 1, 2012

I really don't think Ms. Ashley can write a 'bad' book!
This was fricken Amazing!
Love Hawk & Gwen, and her messed up sister, and the biker dudes, the 'Hot' cops, and all the Commando type guys
..... and where in the world do you find guys that talk all Neanderthal and answer 'Babe' like that's the obvious answer, but it still comes across as Alpha and Sexy as hell?

Second read: March 5, 2013

The last couple of days I have been re-introduced to Kristen Ashley's mysterious and fantastic world of Commando's, Motorcycle Bad-Asses, sexy Cop's, and Private Investigator's... and I FRIGGEN LOVED IT...AGAIN!!!

It has been exactly a year since I first met Cabe "Hawk" Delgato & Gwen Kidd. In that year I haven't thought of them, but when I started to re-read their story it didn't take long for me to get caught up in them.
I LOVE their characters! I love that everything they'd been thru in their pasts & the brokenness & the walls they've put up because if it.... they were finally able to 'put their hands down' and begin to heal one another with their strength, courage, and love.

Once Hawk opened his heart to Gwen... that was it!

 photo protectwhatsyours.jpg

Their story and their ending is

 photo beautiful.jpg

.. and the Epilogue had me in tears again. Cabe's sweetness towards Gwen and that bloody intimate kiss behind the ear

 photo kissingneck.gif

.. *sigh*.. too much!!!
LOVED THIS STORY ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
READ IT!!!

Third read: August 4, 2014

Love!

3.75 cookie dough solves every problem STARS

“You’re livin’ in Badass World, baby,” he whispered in my ear. “Fair warning, until I fix what I cut in you, you’re there to stay.”

WHAT A HOT MESS!

There was so much going on, ups and downs and people getting kidnapped and shot at and so many characters. I just LOLed all the time.

If you follow my review you might know that I started my Kristen Ashley experience with the Unfinished Hero series and those books are essentially a two people character study.
That's why Mystery Man was such a complete surprise with all the side characters...and all the drama they brought to the table. Completely new experience and pretty interesting.

“I felt a warm hand on the skin of my lower back.”
I twisted my neck, looked up and there he was.
I held my breath and he asked, “You comin’ or what?”
That was it. That was his pickup line. “You comin’ or what?”
I went.”

It all starts out with Gwendolyn Kidd drinking too much, making googly eyes at the hot guy in the bar and eventually taking him home. Cue in super hot night of sex and the next morning mister mystery is gone. Oh well, it happens, right?

Not with this one...turns out he likes to come back for more. He comes back a lot! For a year and a half a few times a week the nameless man comes to Gwen at night...you can imagine the rest.

Completely bonkers! Seriously. She doesn't even know how he gets into her house. HOT MESS!!!

Well, long story short...it takes for Gwen to get into some trouble with the local biker gang, thanks to her no good sister...and finally he shows up during the day and shares his name... which is Cabe “Hawk” Delgado btw, and pretty much turns her life upside down. And everything that happens next is just nuts.

I'm giving this book 3.75 stars, simply for being highly entertaining, messy and hilarious in all its fucked-up-ness. Of course the writing is excellent and I like the characters, but wow...what a trip.

All in all a nice read, with lots of alpha-male hotness, naughty shenanigans, drama and action and so many hot guys I couldn't keep count.

“Are you here to freak me out in any other way?"
Yikes.
Moving on.”

My biggest problem, or maybe you can call it the reason why I laughed so hard while reading is....*drum roll*... apparently the heroine has some sort of magnetic pull...I think they call it a golden vagina...literally every male character wanted in her panties. *head desk*

As I said HOT MESS!

**Sorry for the short review. I have ten thousand things to do and I had too much of my friend caffeine and I'm a bit loopy right now...*giggles*

Sale Alert: Kindle Deal May 4 – May 10 $2.99

I always feel like I have to give this disclaimer with KA books but maybe even more-so with this one… not everyone is going to be okay with this book or the heroine or the hero. There are very specific reasons why that is the case but mostly it is because it isn’t your usual boy meets girl story. It’s more of a boy sees girl, boy thinks girl is hot, boy takes girl to bed and then sneaks into her house to pretty much booty call her for a year and a half without her even knowing his name.

In most KA book I suspend disbelief because I always seem to like the emotional journey she takes me on. So while I can’t imagine being Gwen and seeing the hot stranger in a restaurant and taking him home without much conversation including the general niceties such as ‘what’s your name’ I totally love the dangerous idea of it. Okay so real life totally not going to happen….but this is KA land and in that world Alpha men have little to no boundaries and they sneak into your house a few days later for some of the best sex of your life and then continue to do that intermittently for over a year.

Too bad her stupid selfish sister has to screw it all up and turn Gwen’s life upside down. After getting into a little trouble it seems that Gwen has been pulled into her sisters problems which also introduces her to many hot men from so different areas in life including H O T cop Mitch Lawson (totally going to read his book). I little flirting with him brings out night lovers slightly jealous side so that he wants to make a claim and make sure that Gwen knows she’s totally his.
“Mitch,” I whispered. “Strong, the last three consonants, that is, but not in a harsh way, in a soft way. And when you’re with someone you care about and you’re close and they say something you can’t hear, you don’t say, ‘What?’ you say, ‘Mm?’ real soft. Put that and the last together, soft and strong, things a cop needs to be… Mitch.”
He stared at me.
I kept babbling. “And Lawson, goes without saying, Law… son. Son of the law.” I pulled in a breath through my nose and then whispered, “Perfect.”

I LOVE IT!!! But it seems Hawk (previously unnamed nighttime visitor) is not happy about all the sudden Alpha males interested in his girl on the down low.

Okay so there are a few things…..

One….I was totally loving the story and the new relationship status that Gwen is having with Hawk even though she is really fighting that every step of the way and then KA dropped the emotional bomb on me and I WAS NOT READY…..and I hated Hawk. Yep you heard me…I hated him because he hurt her feelings so much with some of his other ‘activities’ while they were having night time visits, and by visits I just mean sex together. And Gwen killed me with her reaction when we all found out what the bomb was.
“I want him,” I whispered my secret.
“Then talk to him,” Cam whispered back.
“I wanted him to be special,” I kept whispering. “
Girl,” she kept whispering too and got closer, wrapping her fingers around my arm, “talk to him…..
“I’ll always be filler,”

And Gwenny was totally hurt and I was hurt with her and Hawk was the biggest asshole around. . I’m not saying I was happy about it but I’ll give it a pass this time based on the parameters of the situation.

Two…..there are some H O T alpha men in this and all of them seem to meet Gwen and get an instant hard on for her. Like she must be putting off some serious pheromones for the amount of tuff guy interest in her. Still I’m going to allow it based on this being a KA book and that I enjoyed it. But seriously it’s like she smelled like a steak and they all wanted a big bite.

Three….There are some great side characters. I loved all her friends and Elvira the secretary for Hawk’s place of work was the absolute best. She got away with saying some crazy fun stuff and just inserted herself into Gwen’s life like she’d been there all along. I totally loved it.
“Who’re you?” Elvira demanded to know, eyeing up Cam and Cam looked at her.
“Gwen’s best friend,” Cam answered.
Tracy had made it to the bar and she leaned both forearms into it, saying to Elvira, “We share that title.”
Elvira looked over her shoulder at me where I was positioning myself at the back counter. “If that’s true, girl, you better make up your mind ’cause you can’t have two maids of honor.

Four….this is a bit alpha over the top even for one of KAs books so just be prepared and roll with it. Hawk is all alpha all the time and like many KA heroes he might be a bit broken so we all know that he will do something stupid because he doesn’t know how to deal with the situation. But I has some great intense emotional reactions in this to his backstory and how Gwen came to terms with both her past and his.

Overall I enjoyed the story and while this by no means has any place in the real world the story for the most part worked for me and now I need to get to know all the Mystery Men.

5 I'M OFFICIALLY A KA FAN STARS!!!!!
(BR with Elizabeth, Melissa, Tiffany, Angie, Lynn, Idelle, & Julie)

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!

 photo image_zpscb3470df.jpg

This was my first KA book and BOY IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
I kept seeing all over Good Reads all the rave reviews on so many of her books and more than a few of my friends told me to get on the KA band wagon and quick.

Well "Mystery Man" was definitely the PERFECT choice for my first endeavor into KA.

 photo image_zps5156443f.jpg

Gwendolyn Kidd has been having a hot affair with SEXY and ALL ALPHA MALE, Cabe "Hawk" Delgado for the past year and a half.
Sounds pretty amazing right?
Except, the only time they spend together is when Hawk shows up in her bed at night.
How he gets in, is a mystery to her.
Biggest Mystery is his NAME!!
She doesn't even know what it is!!!
OK...this sounds f'd up, but I was totally on board!!
Sign me right up for that deal!!
Amazing sex on a regular basis with a HOT ALPHA who can give me 4 orgasms a night AT LEAST??!!
Gwen met Hawk at a bar one night and took him home and to her bed, never thinking this thing would last over a year and that she'd still not know his name.

I loved this chick!!
She was a DOLL!!!
She knew this situation sounded totally f'd up and that it made her look like a whore and she owned up to it.
Her inner monologues were pretty funny.
This is one book heroine that I could get behind.
Never did she get on my nerves.
I found myself relating to her on so many things!
The girl loved her some cookie dough!! LOL

So things get pretty out of control for Gwen when her little sister gets herself in big trouble with some pretty shady characters. She has pissed off a lot of unsavory characters who seem to think that going after Gwen is the key to getting to the kid sister.

Now Hawk comes to Gwen's rescue!!
She finally finds out his name and learns this guy is ex military and runs his own type of security company.
AND the guy knows EVERYTHING about her!
He's been keeping close tabs on her this whole time!!!

Gwen has got to be the luckiest gal alive!!
She is surrounded by HOTNESS everywhere she turns!!
It seems that she has an effect on almost every man she meets.
We have Hawk, bad ass Commando.
Tack, HOT MC Biker!!
And Mitch Lawson, Gorgeous law man!!!

Let's throw in an undercover DEA hottie and some private investigators from the "Rock Chick" series, and all the gorgeous ex military men working for Hawk!!
I want a one way ticket to wherever this town is!!! Got that Babe??

 photo tumblr_mnz9w6B9nh1qdngmto1_500_zpsd27d5627.gif

Gwen and Hawk grow closer during all the craziness as Hawk makes it his main mission to keep her safe, and he also makes it quite clear to all the other men who are in love with her, that she belongs to him alone.

This guy has suffered great loss and it explains why he was only the mystery man in Gwen's life for the past year and a half.
Gwen's had her heart broken and has been living inside her head for quite a while.
It explains why she was always "ok" with the relationship she had with Hawk.
But Hawk is seeing now that he "Missed Out" for the past year and a half, when he gets to know this feisty woman, who also can make him laugh like no other.

"Mystery Man" has tons of action, suspense, sexy scenes, a terrific heroine, and an ALPHA to top all ALPHAs!!

I can't say enough about this one!!
It was simply PERFECT!!!!
The Epilogue KICKED ASS!!! :)

I didn't even know his name.
"God," I whispered, "I am such a slut."

"You're mine so I keep tabs."
"I'm yours?"
"Babe, I'm fuckin' you aren't I?"

Lordy be, the man had two dimples.

The hot-o-meter started ringing like crazy as hot guys descended on me, my car and Tack from two directions.
Boy was I glad I curled my hair.

"Clocked you before you clocked me, Gwen."

He tenderly slid the backs of his knuckles against the skin of my cheek while he muttered, "A year and a half. Totally fuckin' missed out."

"You live in your head too much, you curl up and shut shit out and spend so much time doin' it, you forget to live your life. You can't live your life in your head. That isn't livin'. Trust me babe, I know. I've been doin' near the same thing for awhile now, so long I forgot what it feels like to be alive. You got in my face that day you got back from Ride and reminded me what it feels like to be alive. Feels good, Sweet Pea, so I'm not goin' back now."

"You should know, I'm living in a daydream. A real one. I've never been this happy. Not ever, baby, not in my whole life.

5 Stars!! Mystery Man is a mystery no more and he is definitely a superhero!!

I’m at a loss for words, other than Kristen Ashley blew me away AGAIN! Just when you think to yourself that she can’t out-do the possessive male jerk from the last book you read…WRONG…let me introduce you to Cabe “Hawk” Delgado. Even his name makes me swoon! Gwen is the object of his fascination and he was the object of mine. She is the consummate fashion plate, funny and as enamored with Cabe as he is with her. These two slipped between the sheets every chance they got, and once again, major seat squirming on my part. Somehow when I read a KA book I find that I can’t sit still!!

Gwen has a mind of her own, even if it that mind doesn’t think things through and it leads her straight to trouble. When she sets her sights on something there is no stopping her, and of course she does it in style, right down to her shoes. The girl is shoe-ho!

I started out highlighting key parts to keep track of quotes and scenes that I liked; well that didn’t work out to well, because I damn near highlighted the whole book. I LOVED it ALL. At times I was laughing so hard that I thought I was going to choke. Warning, read this book in the privacy of your own home and not in public, or you might be at the receiving end of the Heimlich maneuver!

Kristen Ashley writes such, that you read yourself right into the book. Her books are spot on when it comes to feelings, emotions, and circumstances. She always throws in that curve ball of unexpected, when revealing what came to pass in the history of her characters, this book being no exception.

There was a whole troupe of secondary characters that I would love to see featured in future books. I don’t even feel right calling them secondary, it’s as if I do them a disservice, because they are front and center in the plot, shining stars in their own right.

Have a box of Kleenex ready for the epilogue, another thing that KA does so well. It’s as if she herself needs this closure and she gifts it to her readers knowing we need it too. I had to read it twice, the first time it was blurred and after I wiped the wet away I read it again. I had a hard time putting this one away.

I did have two issues wondering if I had missed something, or maybe I so absorbed with everything else that I’m just clueless.

It’s on to Wild Man and hopefully some wild times!

The book starts with Gwendolyn "Gwen" Piper Kidd meeting a cute guy at a bar, taking him home and they had sex. They didn't talk. He started returning for a year and a half, always in the middle of night, without a key but somehow he got into her house.
Gwen didn't want to scare this sex god away, so she never asked him his name, how he gets into her house, nothing except "harder" or "faster". She nicknamed him Mystery Man "MM" when she talked to her friends.
None of her friends asked her WTF or slapped her, they just listened to the salacious stories she had to share about MM.

When her sister gets Gwen caught up in her drama, MM decides to take care of his woman. unlike Gwen, MM (Cabe “Hawk” Delgado) did all his homework and knows all about her. So begins the journey to get to know each other outside the sack.

She slept with him for 1½ years and didn't know his name nor what he looked like (she didn't recognize him when she saw him later) nor how he gets into her house/room---I JUST CAN'T PAST THAT. I tried, but I can't.
