Clearly, his perception of right and wrong was very flawed, and didn’t want the police looking into his personal affairs either. I believe he chose to throw money at the Chloe issue, keep calm, and go on. The old lady might have adored him, and thought of him as “just a bad business manager”, but the man was in the business of stealing money from others.(less)
