MILD SPOILER INCLUDED I loved this book , but there were a few things that puzzled me. In the courtroom scene Molly's lawyer Charlotte questions Molly on the stand, although Molly is not the defendant and Charlotte is not the prosecutor. I am aware that the author is Canadian and the book is probably set in Canada. Is this done in Canada? Under what circumstances?

The Maid is vague about the country it takes place in. Based on tea, crumpets and marmalade I was thinking England but the judicial system seems more like the US. So I'm settling on Canada, What do you think?

Why are there so many people with colour last names? Molly Gray, Cheryl Green, Wilbur Brown, the Black family. I thought there must have been a purpose for it but apparently not.
