What’s your favorite memory from your youth? If you could live that moment again, and use it to help others, wouldn’t that be a dream come true? We all know that funding for the arts lessens year after year. What if we could help? What if we could stand up and take charge?
Years ago, in a time before the internet, a group of students from the University of Oregon wrote, composed, and performed an original rock musical called “The Last Dragon.” It was well received, critically lauded and toured the Pacific Northwest.
Then, for forty years, the Last Dragon slept.
However, those twenty or so students formed a special bond that has transcended time, life, and its challenges, and they have come back together to bring the Last Dragon back to life.
We want to give back.
This experience shaped our lives, our careers, and gave us everlasting friendships. That love overflows and we want to return that love to the community that we received it from all those years ago.
It is our honor to announce a reprisal of “The Last Dragon” with most of the original cast from 1984. But this isn’t just about reliving the glory days.
After production costs, all remaining proceeds and donations will go into a U of O theatre scholarship fund. We hope to raise at least $20,000+ for the scholarship through ticket sales, fundraisers, and your generous donations.
The event will take place at the Winningstad Theatre August 8th, 9th, and 10th in Portland, Oregon
We hope that you will donate what you can, share what you see, and bear witness as we help to bring the Last Dragon back to life for music, for the arts, and for the honor of these relationships and those we have lost along the way.
