Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens had a happy Christmas despite what fans have been saying about their relationship.

The most decorated gymnast in history took to Instagram to post a Christmas morning photo set featuring her and her husband in matching plaid pajama sets with the caption, “MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎁❤️.” Other photos in the set include the pair clinking holiday beverages, and the Green Bay Packers safety opening a gift.

Owens commented on the post, “First married Christmas ❤️❤️.”

However, many of the top comments from fans poke fun at Owens’ recent claim that he is the “catch” in their relationship on The Pivot podcast ahead of the holidays.

“Here is the most known and respected athlete in the US… and there is her husband by her side 😂” said one user, while another wrote, “Merry Christmas to Simone Biles only.” Riffs on the Keke Palmer “sorry to this man” meme seems to be a popular refrain, as well as referring to Owens as “Mr. Biles” and “Mr. Simone Biles.” One user expressed surprise that Biles left her comments section on given what most folks are saying.

Others, however, criticized the Christmas criticism. “Y’all really think these comments on her husband make her smile?,” asked a user. “You’re not doing anyone a favor with the negativity.” Another pointed out that the overall vibe on The Pivot between the two of them, apart from the quote that went viral, was loving and supportive. “How do you justify spewing venom toward someone your idol loves?” they asked.

Overall, the post appears to be further evidence that Biles is at ease with her husband admitting he “didn't know” who she was when they matched on Raya in 2020, and publicly saying that he’s the “catch” of the two of them. On December 23, Biles responded to the intense backlash with the question, “Are y'all done yet?” Owens then shared her post, adding, “I love my baby man.”

Clearly, the controversy hasn't dampened the newlyweds’ holiday spirit.
