At this point it's well-established that Meryl Streep can perform anything, including an indie rock classic.

On Sunday, October 16, the three-time Oscar winner hopped onstage—along with actor Tracey Ullman—to join Broken Social Scene in singing their iconic song “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl” at Webster Hall in New York City. Usually, I'm against concert videos, but I can make an exception for this special crossover event.

At the beginning of the video, Ullman, who is already onstage, beckons someone to come up to sing along to “Anthems for a Seventeen-Year-Old Girl.” That person is Meryl Streep. Here's a video of the momentous occasion:

Streep, wearing a white blouse, black trousers, black glasses, and a VIP badge (very Ally in A Star Is Born), joined the musical collective and enthusiastically sang along while taking a video of the whole thing on her phone. Streep appeared to be fangirling the band about as much as anyone would fangirl her.

Most of the song, for those unacquainted with Broken Social Scene—a Canadian musical collective founded in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning that has included many musicians over the years including Feist—is the repetition of the lyrics, “park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me.” Meryl Streep was clearly feeling the vibes as much as she felt the role of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Can you get an Oscar for dropping in on a concert?
