BELLINGHAM, : Bellingham, Washington state, Police Chief Randy Carroll explains 24 October, 2002 his department's involvement in the investigation of John Allen Muhammad, a 42-year-old also known as John Allen Williams, and his 17-year-old stepson John Lee Malvo. Both men were arrested early 24 October at a rest stop near Myersville, 14 miles from Frederick, Maryland, as they were sleeping. Williams and Malvo had lived for a short period of time in Bellingham, 85 miles (137 kilometers) north of Seattle.
