Biden seeks Black community's support for re-election in Philadelphia speech

PHILADELPHIA, US - MAY 29, 2024: The US President Joe Biden asked the Black community to re-elect him in the upcoming elections during his speech in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, May 29. "Because Black Americans voted, Kamala and I are President and Vice President of the United States -- because of you. That’s not hyperbole. Because you voted, Donald Trump is a defeated former president," Biden told. "And with your vote -- with your vote in 2024, we’re going to make Donald Trump a loser again." Supporters often interrupted his speech shouting "four more years". Explaining in detail with numbers about how much they cared and spent for the Black community, Biden said: "The bottom line is we’ve invested more in Black America than any previous administration in history has. We’re opening more doors for economic opportunity, including access to capital, entrepreneurship, workforce training so you can build a life of financial freedom and create generational wealth, all -- all while being the providers and leaders of your families and community." Biden has stepped up efforts to highlight his administration’s commitment to racial equity and to Black voters more generally in the midst of the election campaign. "To me, the values of diversity, equality, inclusion are literally -- and this is not kidding -- the core strengths of America. That’s why I’m proud to have the most diverse administration in history that taps into the full talents of our country. And it starts at the top with the Vice President," Biden noted. Roughly 244 million Americans will be eligible to vote in November 2024 presidential elections. Biden is trying to secure a second term in power. Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump, agreed to hold the first presidential debate on June 27 as the campaign season prepares to enter high gear.
