Monica Mark is the Southern Africa bureau chief for the Financial Times, based in Johannesburg. Prior to joining the FT in 2024, she was Africa editor for The Christian Science Monitor and the New York Times’ Johannesburg bureau chief.
She previously covered West Africa for a decade, living in Lagos, Abidjan and Dakar. She is British–Nigerian and her first book – Finding Valentine, about Sierra Leone’s former president – will be published in 2025.
