Ian Smith is the Financial Times' insurance correspondent, covering the global industry from London. He was previously deputy markets news editor and before that worked on the special reports desk. He joined the FT from Investors' Chronicle in 2018, where he was companies editor. Prior to that he was a reporter and editor on the FT Group's pensions titles.
He has won journalism awards for his work covering insurance and pensions, including for a recent investigation into an insurance scandal involving leaseholders and an article on how the sector treats low-income households.
