‘Inevitable decision’: Greer Citizen announces plans to close operations
GREER, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greer Citizen, the only Greer central newspaper, announced it will close operations at the end of July.
The announcement was made online and in Wednesday’s edition.
“The national decline of print journalism and the corresponding community move from newspaper advertising to online outlets have made financial sustainability impossible, leading us to make this inevitable decision.,” the newspaper said.
The final edition of the newspaper will be July 31, 2024.
The Greer Citizen was founded on May 10, 1918, beginning as a family-oriented business.
The paper was later purchased in September of 2006 by Buchheit News Management, a Spartanburg family-based company
