LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - An arrest report obtained by FOX5 is revealing more about the death of a one-year-old child, and the man accused of killing them.

On Saturday, June 1, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call regarding an unresponsive one-year-old Kai Tesoro. Upon arrival, Kai was observed not breathing and was immediately transported to the Summerlin Pediatrics Emergency Room.

At the hospital, police interviewed Christian Moniz Rabino, who told officers that he was not Kai’s father but had been in his life for the past six months. Rabino said he had initially called 911 due to Kai “having trouble breathing and ultimately, not breathing,” the report states.

A primary doctor advised officers that Kai had “bruising to his head”, “a fracture to his right leg”, and “needed to be sedated and placed on a ventilator,” according to the report.

When asked about the head and leg injuries, Kai’s mother - identified as Tautiana - told officers that he had fallen off a bed while under the care of Rabino, but the incident was never reported.

After examining Kai, hospital staff would inform police the injuries were consistent with “non-accidental trauma.” The report would also note that Kai’s injuries were not consistent with a fall from a bed.

Kai would be taken off life support on June 6, and would later die at Summerlin Hospital.

An autopsy would reveal Kai’s injuries to be consistent with “shaking back and forth”, according to doctors. The report also noted a doctor describing the case as “one of the worst cases he had seen.”

A friend of the family would also inform police that they had seen many bruises on Tautiana and believed that she was in an abusive relationship with Rabino.

In a follow-up interview, Tautiana admitted to police that Rabino may have hit Kai but she “did not know for sure.” She added that he had only “put his hands on her” at that point.

After further questioning, she would also admit that she witnessed Rabino become frustrated with Kai’s crying and shake him. Additionally, she noted another instance where Rabino became frustrated with Kai’s inability to walk by himself, and “planted [him] feet-first on the ground.”

Doctors would later confirm that this action fractured both of Kai’s legs.

According to Nevada Department of Corrections records, Rabino was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 25. He is currently being held at Clark County Detention Center without bail.

He is due for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, August 7.
