'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' birthplace gallery event coming to Dover's Woodman Museum
DOVER — The Woodman Museum will unveil its new "Birthplace of the Ninja Turtles" gallery Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The gallery was created in partnership with Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, according to a museum press release.
"Learn about the history of the first comic book’s creation in Dover in 1984," the museum's announcement states. "View a totally radical collection of artwork and memorabilia. Get your game on in our TMNT Gaming Corner. Experience the history of the ninja turtles in our Comic Book Reading Corner."

After visitors spend time at the gallery, they can roam the rest of the museum and meet a number of turtle exhibitors and vendors, according to the museum. The evening caps off with a free family movie night outside showing "TMNT: Mutant Mayhem!"

Mirage Studios was founded in November 1983 by Eastman and Peter Laird in a residence at 28 Union St. in Dover, where they lived together and created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In 2023, the birthplace of the turtles was enshrined in Dover with a marker and manhole cover.
