The Rex is far from Extinct. Queen Street West, Toronto.

The Rex seems to be around forever, but it has a music policy only since mid 1980's. Bourbon Street (next door) was very well known, but closed about the same time when Rex owner Bob Ross started with introducing jazz in their bar. The hotel also featured jazz during various festivals and had some great night jam sessions. I have not been in Rex last 2.5 years. They renovated during the lockdowns, so little bit of the atmosphere is probably gone. The music is there however, and that's what counts. It was originally Williams Hotel (1890), but until the 1960's the main floor was United Clothing store. Jack Ross (Bob's father) and Morris Myers took over the hotel in 1950's. It was already operating as a hotel and beer hall then.
