New York City

Several months back a co-worker had his spouse join him as we continue to jointly support an ongoing effort at a new facility in the NYC metropolitan area. Over the weekend I got to do one of my favorite things and play NYC tour guide to the sweet couple from the southwest and made our way to the American Museum on Natural History located on Central Park’s westside. One of my favorite exhibits has always been ever since I first went this wonderful establishment in mid-1970’s is the wonderful 94 foot life size model of the largest creature to every roam the earth, the blue whale located in Hall of Ocean Life. It was modeled after a blue whale found deceased on the southern tip of South America in 1925 back in 1960. It was given a ‘facelift’ in 2001 to fix some anatomical anomalies now that the scientific world knows far more about blue whales for example it was found off of South America because they normally breed in the winter in the warm southern waters. This image shows the amazing amount of detail that the model has and interestingly enough sometime after my dear friends from the southwest and I visited the Museum of Natural History, the area just below the whale was used as a COVID-19 mega vaccination site as New York City worked to get much of the population immunized for COVID-19.
