The Last Saltbox

This traditional folk house is rapidly disappearing in outport Newfoundland being replaced by white vinyl clad modernity. The "Salt Box" is aptly named for its shape, which resembles the old boxes used for shipping salt to Newfoundland. It is one of the earliest forms of house construction. Because it has a short steep roof in front and a longer steep slope in back, the saltbox looks bigger from the front than it actually is.

I've used a bit of texture in the processing of this image for a vintage look. Please view large !
