For me, the sound of Dartmouth. The Lower Ferry.

The Lower Ferry is the lowest river crossing of the three ferries that link the town to the eastern shore of the River Dart. During peak times two tugs operate, passing each other in mid channel but in the evening it is a solitary one. (Last Lower Ferry from Kingswear back to Dartmouth in June is 10.45pm...forever in my head!)

I loved its throaty chugging and the clank and rattle as it made shore and it is the sound of my holiday.
