I am just a guy with a camera, taking cheap shots.

I have no training and I'd like to keep it that way. In fact, I have no interest in improving my photography; I figure when it dawns on me that I need to improve, my inner teacher will take care of that. It's really more fun this way, and more in touch with a Zen-like approach to photography, which is what I've developed. No mind,Snap.

I grew up in and have lived my entire life in the Detroit area. Detroit is my city, and Detroit was in a lot of pain when I began documenting the city. My Detroit photos are meant to bring an awareness of the city and what is going on there. I started exploring Detroit on New Year's morning, 2004.

Things are changing, though too slowly in the neighborhoods.

If you are looking for pretty pictures of unscathed flowers and butterflies, I suggest you look elsewhere. However, I do look for beauty in the strangest places.

I hope you enjoy my photos, and don't mind too much the confusing mix of themes and subject matter.

R. is one of my favorite photographers on Flickr. His shots present society as it is with a keen eye delving deeper into underlying motifs. His pictures make me think, have verve while also being understated, drawing the viewer in to experience the photo. Excellent camera eye! Your work inspires me, friend!

TooLoose is a funny guy. His Zen philosophy reminds me of the line from Caddyshack, 'See the picture. Be the picture.' Seriously, TooLoose has one of the most original sets of photos of the Detroit area I have seen. As a life long resident of the area, and one who spent many years working on homes in the city, I can see he has an excellent eye. What comes through in the TooLoose set is a love of the city, not some cheap 'look at the ruins' voyeurism. If you want to see the city, really see it at the neighborhood level, hit the slide show and enjoy the run.
