Just who is this Bill Smith character anyway?

I am a PR/Corporate Communciations guy who enjoys traditional film photography and making black and white prints in my darkroom.

Based in the West end of Greater Toronto I am documenting the world around me, this year I plan to photograph Ontario's smaller towns and nature outside the 416/905 more often, though a camera is always with me when I am downtown Toronto.

My main photographic platforms are:

35 mm Format: Nikon F, Olympus OM, Pentax screwmount, Leica Rangfinder M and Canon FD.

Medium format I have a thing for TLRS: A series E2 Rolleiflex with a 75 f3.5 Zeiss Planar lens. Rolleicord IV K3B with Schneider 75 f.35 Xenar lens, Rolleicord Vb and a Mamiya C220 kit.

I am the co-founder and vice president of the Oakville Camera Club. If you live in the west end of the GTA please come by one of our meetings.

Bill is a fellow Spotmatic afficionado. Bill also has many other cameras, not all of which are even Pentaxes, let alone Spotmatics. Bill is a wellspring of information about cameras and can tell you many things you need to know about cameras. However, Bill is more than a mere fount of information about cameras. Bill is also a dedicated photographer whose works seem to have a knack for capturing the essence of a setting or subject. Many a great afternoon has been spent wandering the streets of Toronto with Bill, and hopefully more will come.

He makes it easy to respect and appreciate every shot because he puts so much time and care into every step of the photographic process. His use of light, angles, lines and shadow are remarkable. His ability to draw the viewer into the scene is priceless. Viewing one of Bill’s photographs is like stepping back in time, living through the present or visualizing the future. It takes a dedicated person to create a piece that can invoke feelings, create memories and inspire dreams. To know is not only to understand, but also to experience, feel and explore. I respect and admire those who keep to the old ways despite the advance of technology, and especially those photographers who shoot in black and white. Bill Smith 1 is indeed one of those persons. His collection of cameras(see list) is proof of his passion. He's also a hometown boy who gives me a different perspective of my home town and a greater appreciation of the art of B&W If you've never seen or would like a reminder of this wonderful hometown of ours, Bill's the man to see.
