I got your msg, but since you posted the same more or less, I will reply publicly!
I just moved to New Bern in August. I have been visiting for several years, with my husband, because his family lives here. I am so glad to have finally moved here. The economy is so much better than where we previously lived, and my gosh, the CULTURE! :)
It has the interestingness and the allure of the "big city", but the comfort and easy-goingness of a small town. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Sometimes you can't really tell apart the tourists from the locals.
Since moving here, I have been astounded with the arts culture, the galleries, the theaters, so on and so forth... I am finally able to be apart of a community of artists, and have joined the pottery studio on Middle St. at Art & Materials. They are so welcoming there.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in the Chamber of have any connections, however they are on Facebook, and I added them as a friend :)
My husband grew up in New Bern, and we've both wanted to move here for years. He wants to settle down where he grew up, and I just think it's a wonderful place to live and start a family.
If you'd like to exchange an email with my husband, let me know. He's a writer and photographer.

Great Becky! Wonderful!!
I am a Revolutionary War Amateur Historian/Archaeologist of sorts...a member of the NC Arch Society, so you know this was what draws me to the second oldest city in North Carolina. I was there years before, and I am already wishing that I was back there with you. I love New Bern.
By all means, email is fine, or Flickr mail too. My email is glstrader@gmail.com...also if you will go to my profile page there is a couple of links for my two websites.
I have hundreds of photos of your town...I hope that I do not wear out my welcome here. Notice that lots of the photos are Geo-Tagged...I hope that if there are some that I do not get right, that you will let me know so that I change them.

Your in for a treat...no snow, no cold, and people talk slow, and are more laid back here....When you ask for tea here, you get "sweet tea", not that dirty dishwater you are used too up north.

"Dirty Dishwater"? So that's what the "DD" in "Dunkin Donuts" stands for! Although, there IS a Dunkin Donuts in New Bern now, but when we first landed there, there wasn't. Anyway, "Port City Java" is our coffee OR tea destination of choice.
