I am a hobbyist photographer (at best), and have been asked to shoot a family portrait. it will be outdoors in the fall foliage with 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. Any tips for a newbie? I shoot with a Canon 7D with a stock lens, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6.
Thanks!

Hello!
I am rather new to shooting portraits. Ive done a few to just mess around with it and see what works best for me.
Currently shooting on a Nikon D7000. The typical 18-105mm kit lens and the 50mm 1.8.
Now I would love to find a GREAT lens for family portraits. I have a 70-200mm 2.8 that I would be able to borrow from a friend. I was looking at the 28-70mm 2.8...

Dear Flickr's
Bit of a dilemma here, and before you jump the gun. I fully understand that it's the photographer behind the DSLR that makes a difference, and having the right equipment defiantly helps in low light situations. In addition, I do have very good collection of lenses, mostly for a full-frame, few primes, except the nifty fifty.
I plan to photograph family...
I'd be a bit weary about posting photos in this group of YOUR actual family b/c groups like these tend to attract psychos and such. Post at your own risk.
I have my first family photoshoot tommorow. I'm not charging them or anything, I just need more practice. I know them fairly well so being nervous around them isn't a problem. They have a son who is 8 months old. I need tips on doing the portraits. How long does a session like this last? I was thinking it could be around an hour, or is that too long? Too short? I just need...
I'm getting better and ready to elevate my skills some more. I find I'm really weak on posing my subjects. Can you think of any go-to posing books/guides?
Thanks!
Hi guys,
I am taking some pictures at a party at the end of the month and I have been asked specifically to take some pictures of a group of 7 boys. They are aged between 13 and 21 and are all grandchildren of the lady present.
I am ok with doing standard portraits but I want to do something different as well. The shots will be outdoors and probably in the sunset.

I've got a shoot lined up in a few weeks for a rather large family including 5 boys ages 4, 9, 10 & 10 (twins), and 15. I've never shot a family this large and I'm anticipating some challenges for various reasons including the size of the group and age range of the boys. What suggestions would you have for me? Can you think of any good poses that might work? Suggestion...

Hi all
Had a photo shoot with a 2 year old in studio, pregnant mom, and a maybe 3 year old. The 2 year old did NOT want to be in the photograph in any way shape or form. The only way we could get him to sit there was while mom was reading to the kids or with a toy in his hand. Unfortunately, that didn't lead to any classic or professional looking shots.
I will try ...
Hi all, I am just starting out and have done a few photo shoots but this would be my first shoot with adult siblings. They are all in their 20's and its a birthday gift for mom. It will be outdoors (park possibly). Anyone have some creative ideas for posing and such?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
