For next week's Flick Forum, do you photogs want a theme, or should we just select the best of the pool? If you want a theme, put your suggest(s) in the comments.

how about something general, like shadows, textures, night, light beams

...your feedback is much appreciated tomms! anyone else have input? it takes more than a single comment to select a theme ;)

I was thinking we're bound to start seeing a lot of night shots now and it does give interesting possibilities. It's harder to come up with a theme now that most of the events and festivals are behind us (aside from the big spending binge coming up).
On the other hand there are things going on in the news which might lend themselves to interesting conceptual interpretations..."The Economy" for instance.
I find the more abstract themes are more interesting in that they challenge you to get out there and really think about what you're shooting for this group-I guess it depends whether each person shoots for the theme specifically or whether it's more a matter of submitting shots that they're taking anyway. There have been a couple of weeks that have stumped me and I came up empty but even then it made me think about what I was doing.
If everyone is really bereft of ideas or suggestions just open the dictionary to a random page and pick a word-that would be interesting too :)

I'd suggest neighbourhoods as themes... Leslieville, Entertainment District, Little Italy, Annex, etc. Maybe make a series out of them in the coming months when nothing is going because winter-specific themes should run out by mid-January.

Also, stimulate local tourism and theme the forum by suburb... lots of great photogs in the 'burbs!

Or more challenging themes: it's garbage day, the parking garage, on your coffee break, around the house, surreptitious! (take a photo somewhere you know you shouldn't be taking photos)...

I went themeless for this week...

i'm considering keeping it that way for the winter. it's really difficult if only a small hand full of photog are shooting for the same theme.

feedback is welcome!

1973 members of the group and two responses...you're probably on safer ground that way.

I do like the idea of themes from the point of view that it makes me go out and look around either at things I might not have otherwise seen or look around FOR things I wouldn't normally be looking for. On the other hand if nobody else is participating it becomes a hollow exercise.

Thanks for the feedback sniderscion!

Maybe once a month we could do a themed Flickr Forum? I guess the challenge remains getting enough photogs excited about the theme to participate.

We'll definitely do themes for the biggies... xmas, nye, etc...

I'm happy to try to work on a theme, but I've found it hard to actually know what the theme is looking on blogto.com.. from now on i'll look over here.

I kind of like the idea of the best dozen photos of the week though too.. It bubbles up good photos that weren't seen in the morning brew.

I like the themes much better as well, even if they are as simple as picking colours. I paid more attention to the flickr post on Friday when the themes began.

I find the themes help me rethink how to approach topics. Also, I find when there are no themes some of the choices to post are random and I have no reason to check out the post, I can just look at the pool.

But I do want to help out rather than just complain; below are some topics I've pulled from some other groups on flickr:

neighborhoods (I thought that was a great suggestion)
colour (as a theme or pick individual colours)
pattern
lines
abstract
CN Tower (everyone in this group as a pic of this - what are the most interesting ones)
spirits
animals (I think we just had the royal winter fair)
fire
ice
water
TTC
transport
flight
long exposures
black and white
selective colour
light
play
multiple exposures
toy cameras
cards

brickworks
waterfront
islands
distortion

bicycles
crowds
bokeh
squares
stairs
windows
fast food
monuments
smiles
directions
signs
statues
salespeople
Zanta
animals
hotels
fountains
morning
stars
traffic
tattoos
architecture
work
love
vegetables
street performer
rustic
garbage
breakfast

Hope this helps

is there a tag we add to be eligible for this week's forum? or is it whatever was added in the last week?

For now we're going themeless, so no tag required. I'll announce on the blog and in the pool when we do the next theme.

@ayngelina - Thanks for your theme suggestions!!! I'll be sure to use a few of those in the future.
