Very cool. Now pro users can check your stats (popular pages, referrals, etc)!

I highly recommend this. It takes a day or so to show up but there's a lot of fascinating info...what domains people are coming from; accurate view counts, what search terms they're using, etc etc. If you're into this sort of thing check it out. And it's free!

Is it just me, or does it appear that Flickr could use a little search engine optimization? Very few hits come from the big search sites it seems (compared to my own presonal site, for example).

it doesn't tell you where the traffic is coming from per picture. i have a pretty dumb shot that has been getting over 100 views a day. it's several months old and i have no idea why. it's not as if i'm losing sleep over it, but the stats aren't all that helpful IMO.

I think Flickr blocks or makes it difficult for some engines. I know I read something about this somewhere but don't remember where. I'm going to dig into it though. The majority of hits on my shots come from Yahoo, there are very few from Google. Who owns Flickr? Yahoo. (I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means).

I did have one weird episode where in the space of about 16 hours I had about 200 hits on an image and couldn't figure out where they were coming from. I tried all the "egosurf" tools on Bighugelabs and came up empty. When the Flickr stats became available I looked at that one and it was coming from ask.com and was into a search for the term "bank". The hits stopped just as suddenly so I would never have figured it out on my own.

moonwire; I think the detailed image tracking only goes back a couple of weeks so if it's not actively linked anymore it may not show up anymore. What image is it and is it still getting that many hits?

it's this one - stats don't tell me anything and it's not in explore. perhaps people are doing mad searches on 'thongs and bongs'?

thongs and bongs [93/365]

LOL- well I know I search those terms almost every night!
If I can figure anything out I'll let you know.

LOL at moonwire. Definitely the thong tag that's done it. I dare you to add "barely legal" and cleavage" to your tags and watch that photo hit 100,000 views in no time.

moonwire - You *should* be able to see stats for any image viewed in the last 28 days. In the table lists, click to paginate through the list, then click on the image. If you see "flickr.com" or whatever below that, then click on that -- it'll show you group views, search terms, etc.

edit - or click on the photo, and then on "Stats" along the right-hand side, where all those photo properties and stuff are, and you can still click to break down "flickr.com", yahoo, etc. from there too.

haha - i just did. let's see how this little experiment unfolds.... :)

i did that. 90% from flickr and 8% other. i guess people really do search for images of thongs and or bongs.

That would be another great tag "cleavage experiment" :)

I think being #1 in Explore helps too. then add the number of faves. I sometimes surf peoples faves; and I've noticed bumps in otherwise unviewed images after I've faved them so I know people surf mine too.

One thing that could be revealing (so to speak) is if you click on the "Domain name" of the referring site it shows you the tags that were searched for.

Do please keep us posted :)

well, since i added those tags, the views dropped from over a 100, to 60 to just 22 today. that pic must have been on some weblog or something.

Now that's very interesting. It might have something to do with the safety filters too. Not sure if one of those terms might flag a photo as "unsafe" ?

Tags can't flag a photo restricted - only people can. I think a lot of it is just that the views in most photos drop off after the first day.
