Free Pro Account for Rogers Hi-Speed Customers?

view profile

Steve Keys says:

Haven't tried it out, and don't know if it works with existing users.

"This month there are some extra perks for subscribing to some of Rogers’ services.

First, because Rogers is a partner with Yahoo!, and Yahoo! is closing Yahoo! Photos in favour of their photo sharing site, Flickr, Rogers is offering all Hi-Speed customers a free Flickr Pro account! A Flickr Pro account includes unlimited storage and uploading as well as a number of archiving features. Normally a Pro account costs $24.95 US per year. To get your Pro Account, log in to your Rogers webmail and click on the “Photos” link at the top right corner of the page. It will bring you to a Flickr page where you can sign up for the account."

Any idea if it allows you to extend your current pro membership instead of just starting a new account? Sounds like a sweet deal to me - one of the perks of being with a huge company with tons of partners like Rogers, I guess.

I'm going to call Rogers tomorrow and see if I can get a credit to extend my Pro account. I'll see if that yields anything.

Steven H. Photo Systems says:

If you log in to the account settings of your Rogers account, create a new secondary Rogers e-mail account, and during that process associate that account with the Yahoo account you currently use to log in to Flickr, that should enable you to get the free upgrade without resorting to creating a new account. Worked for me.

As for what happens to the paid portion, they provided this not so optimistic statement: "If you have already purchased a Pro account the remaining term will be appended to your Flickr account when you leave the Rogers Yahoo! service."

I've heard of people calling their ISP (Rogers is not the only ISP that partners with Yahoo) for a credit because of this; dunno how well that goes, though.
