Real estate tycoon Truong My Lan sentenced to death in Vietnam's biggest fraud case

Real estate mogul Truong My Lan, was handed a death sentence by a court in Ho Chi Minh City, southern Vietnam, on Thursday, in what is regarded as the nation's largest financial fraud case to date, according to state media outlet Thanh Nien.

Lan, who chairs the real estate firm Van Thinh Phat, was formally accused of orchestrating a fraud totalling USD 12.5 billion — approximately 3 per cent of the country's 2022 GDP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed condolences over a bus accident in Mahendragarh, Haryana, that claimed the lives of at least six schoolchildren and left 20 others injured.

"The bus accident in Mahendragarh, Haryana, is extremely painful," Modi tweeted. My condolences are with all the families who have lost their children in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured children. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims and their families," he said in post on X.

At least 17 people died while more than 35 others were reported injured after a truck carrying pilgrims fell into a ditch in Balochistan's Hub district, as per police reports on Thursday, according to Geo News.

The incident occurred at 11 pm on Wednesday, and the rescue operation was completed within two hours.
