The Kolkata Metro has announced that about 29 lakh passengers travelled via its Green Line 2 (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade) to Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia) between March 15 and June 30.

Kolkata Metro’s Green Line 2, also its under-river stretch, was commissioned on March 15. 

Since the commencement of commercial services on the under-river stretch of Green Line-2, approximately 29 lakh passengers have traveled between various stations on this corridor to stations on the Blue Line up until June 30, according to a statement by Kolkata Metro on Friday.

Esplanade station serves as the interchanging point of these two corridors.

As per the Kolkata Metro, to facilitate smoother and more flexible interchanging, queue managers have been installed at Esplanade Metro station. This measure ensures a seamless interchange of passengers between the Old Esplanade station (Blue Line) and the New Esplanade station (Green Line).

New Garia-Airport route update

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has announced plans to complete the construction of two piers near the Metropolitan crossing on the EM Bypass, part of Kolkata Metro’s New Garia-Airport route, by next month, according to a recent official statement. The RVNL has received official sanction from Kolkata Traffic Police to build the piers. To ensure uninterrupted construction and maintain traffic flow, a 90-day traffic block was implemented starting June 13, the official added.
